Thanks a million for uploading this. It was here years ago then vanished. Some time later someone else uploaded it but they had to adjust the tone or pitch or some such, maybe to avoid a copyright strike??? Anyway, thanks again. This performance is beyond amazing

I became obsessed with Zakk during my teenage years BECAUSE of this album. Dead As Yesterday and I Thank You Child...
I picked up the guitar just to play this piece but I was still what, 12 or 13 and could not make sense of why I couldn't sound like him.~
    Legendary guitarist, huge respect.

His vocals sound wicked the BLS. It sounds like a feedback effect and octave shift are being used for that sort of mucky thick texture and pitch with a tiny bit of chorus to produce what in fact sounds wicked.
*There's an endless sea of forum posts pondering what he's doing in abundance and now nearly 20 years old lol, but I can sing 7 octaves, do that voice without any effects as well as countless others naturally, so I know exactly what I am hearing.*
Remember the guy from police academy doing those insane sound effects?
*I can do that with my voice including Peter Steele's without an octave effect. I can do it without it sounding like an impersonation from having started when I was 10.

yeah his vocal here is SO good, honestly to me it makes him a bit of an enigma. his vocals for Pride and Glory were stellar too. his voice is still strong as hell but it's just not nearly as dynamic, or more like he doesn't really showcase it. he kinda fell into a certain sound later on and pretty much just sticks to that. also his voice still works very well for Sabbath tunes. he recently did a tour where he covered only Sabbath tunes and called it Zakk Sabbath lol. it actually ended up being really good, the vox were spot on and his style worked perfectly for it.

It honestly feels like he learned how to sing like Ozzy, stylistically, and just fell in love with it. This era Zakk was a cross between Greg Allman and Chris Stapleton.

Like yourself, Levi, I enjoy this era of Zakk’s playing and songwriting the most
His love of Southern rock and great songwriters like Elton John, Neil Young, Tom Petty and so on, meant his writing for Ozzy was never one dimensional.
Let’s face it, there’s a whole generation of guitar players who grew up on shred but have never moved beyond the old i-VI-III-VII 😂
In his book “Bringing Heavy Metal To The Children” he says that music is predominantly a business, and he’s rather write, record and tour with an album than spend years in the studio. Obviously this has had A hand in the style of music he now plays
To paraphrase his thoughts “I love Guns N Roses to death, they’re my friends…but you can’t spend 15 years on a record. Your original fans will have got tired of waiting or have moved on, and todays generation aren’t gonna get hyped either-everything has its time”
Or words to that effect! 😂

@@thenickseditious The correct term is vocal folds. The use of the term vocal cords is a giveaway that you don't actually know about the biology of vocals do you? Sooooo... you're sat here telling me what it "nothing to do with" despite not actually knowing anything about the subject?

Yes, Zakk has too much vocal damage and couldn't sing like this any more. His unsupported use of growl over fry irreparably damages the vocal folds.
Back in the day, he was an excellent singer. Now he gets by with what he has.
