His high gain, super wet, wah driven tone falsely insinuates that the high gain i s assisting in his runs sounding cleaner than they are.. that he really is just wildly tremolo picking and the gain covers up mistakes (I've seen these comments about Zakk a 100 times)
COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG.. SUPER accurate alternate picking here.. crazy.. if his tone was dressed down the same articulation would be there.. he was just absolutely flying on some of those runs. Super clean. Love it, thanks Levi

The ultimate goal is to be equally proficient in both techniques and be able to fluidly shift from one to the other and everything in between. The solos was kind of silly though but entertaining. It's funny who these metal guys can throw in these Robert Fripp-like symmetrical licks and it's not perceived as progressive, fusion-like or jazzy or intellectual but these patterns have been used in some classical music for a long time. I think the reason is that in these are sometimes thrown in for exotic spice added to the solo and then it reverts to bluesy bending but not are not a main part of the composition although later Meshuggah and some Djent stuff will turn these into the fundamental chugging rhythms, the actual composition of the song. But they do it in such an aggressive way it doesn't come off as intellectual
