This is the equivalent of a math teacher saying

"Okay using that, now calculate the mass of the sun"

Its hard to explain but sometimes sitting across from someone and just trying to mimic stuff and have them slow down the odd part etc., it actually ends up being very beneficial. It will take you to a different level of playing/hearing/following

For those who didn't saw / heard the lesson:
    - If you aren't familiar with classical guitar technique, it's time to learn the basics
    - If you don't understand scales or their extended use, learn those until you can dream all the notes
    - If you don't like or can't play the blues, try your best to either play it and or like it. And if you're redheaded, you might find out that you do have a soul or maybe you don't, not my place to tell :-D
    - If you like to execute this one day with a banjo, you don't have to buy one just yet
    - If you like speed, use a metronome, start slow and increase the tempo when you can play the click away
    - If you like this certain acoustic style of shred: combine all the concepts and brew you're own thing based on the guidelines given in this video.
    * Don't forget to really, really, really love pentatonic scales.
Also in my opinion,it has more character with reduced speed. Anyways, thanks very much! :D

Man up, if you can't learn anything from this video, this is just because it's out of your reach, practice and come back,

lf you are to the point where you can play this, you should be able to see/hear what he is playing without him having to break down every single note for you. So you complaining shows that you wouldn't be able to play what he's playing anyway.

    • @antoniochristian1774
      @antoniochristian1774 7 років тому +1

Colton Bowling I second that. I chicken pick myself and he did say "Amin pentatonic." So, I was tracking the whole time.
However, his note skipping while chicken pickin is way better than mine (for now.) So, that's some crazy stuff to do so quickly. Damn, all those years and daily hours equal to this... Good goal to reach for.

+David McGarrity That seems to be a trap many great guitar (and other instruments, I suppose) players fall into. In order to keep challenging themselves, they up the speed and complexity to the point of generating what comes across as little more than mindless noise. It might be fun to play, but that doesn't necessarily make it interesting to listen to.

Yeah just call up Tony Montana and have him fill your bathtub with Columbia's finest, hold your breath for 30 seconds minimum, then dive in head first. When you emerge, you'll be at Zakk Wylde speed! 😆 definitely not even close to his level of ability but you'll at least be able to comprehend 800 bpm

And then we're just gonna Continues to solo for another long time
Also you can Continues picking so quickly the camera blurs
You also have Chicken picks super fast for another minute
Talks for less than 15 seconds about riffs
You can do it like Solos really fast again
So yeah hope that helped thanks for having me
    Best guitar lesson 💯

Guy who are criticzing the fact that this not a lesson ...: Rock/Blues Guitar is based on watching and reproducing... this is how great guitarist did in their early days ... so just and figure it out !, presuming you already head about pentatonic scales, this is not to hard ... and if Zakk's playong is to fast, just use any video player that allows you to slow down the video ! ... Nowadays there is so many Tools to learn guitars .... and don't forget, practicing is the key ...not spending time watching videos on youtube !!! Good luck.

The cold hard truth is you shouldn't be watching a video on chicken picking if you don't know which type of scale you're planning to flow it with. He started out with the foundation of an A Major Pentatonic, and simply showed you can create personal connectors to those foundations to create scales of known types, blues/jazz etc..learn a bunch, they're fun!

Enough with the armchair critiques and post your own enlightening lectures on music theory and the meaning of the universe (which is a sine wave by the way 🙃). I mean, this shit is free!

One way to get the chromatic sound or rather the bluesy picking scale is to mix the minor and major scales. Or anytime you have a whole step in your pentatonic shape put a passing tone
So basically you have to know where the pentatonic shapes are in C major and where they are in C minor. Then mix them together to your taste.
Some things he did were using a pedal tone- so keeping on note on the high e string then walking down a chromatic line on the G string.
