Bonus Tip on the Roman Colosseum. The ticket for the Roman Colosseum also includes the Roman Forum, so just walk 50 yards or so to the Roman Forum ticket office, which never has a line, then walk back to the entrance to the Colosseum show your ticket and walk right in without ever waiting in line. When I backpack I try to buy, make reservations, or learn little hacks to never wait in line. Your time on Vacation is too important to waste it in line.
When and where are you going? Ill be in 3 countries in March, Im 49. I have alot planned including relax days, but everything from paragliding, horseback riding, dolphin boat trip, ruins, church/mosque, museums, hammam
I’m 35 now with 4 kids but 12 years ago I also backpacked Europe alone for 3 months. Your video really took me back. Some of my best memories. Thanks for the nostalgia ❤️
I always find these videos and expect the creators to have a shit ton of subs, and then I’m surprised. Keep doing what you’re doing man. This is honestly better content than you can find anywhere else at this point.
Also, make reservations and buy your tickets for the Vatican museum ahead of time and never wait in the endless line that wraps around the Vatican City walls. If you're in Paris it's worth buying The Paris Pass for the duration of your stay. The Paris Pass offers admission to the major museums and sites in the city with front of the line access. It also includes unlimited metro rides, Seine river night cruse, and a hop-on / hop-off buss. London has a similar city pass.
Also an introvert, also love travelling solo and thinking about life, it’s probably one of the things I love the most in life actually. It’s funny how many people find it weird and assume the normal thing to do is to travel with people, while this is the most natural thing for me. That’s what made life harder when I was younger because I didn’t really know how to be introverted but now that I’m starting to discover it more, I definitely love it, just when I do things that are aligned with who I am.
You may also document your trip by writing daily in a journal... and sketching what you see :D. I recently pulled up a journal of mine from my first Europe trip years ago and as I read it, it brought up so many pleasant memories putting a smile on my face. :D
This has always been a dream of mine. Thanks for sharing. I always thought it would be fun to do a guys trip. But I do see how great it is to self reflect and be forced out of your routine for self improvement.
One of the most honest and helpful videos I’ve found so far! How to make friends and dealing with the uncomfortable part of being alone in a new place and not knowing what to do are things i always think about and don’t see many people really touch on, so thank you.
For the privacy part: I recommend having an Airbnb booked first two nights of trip..and another Airbnb booked for last three nights of a trip. Have hostels for the rest of the trip. That’s what I’m planning for italy. Balance
This video was really well done but I think people forget that not everyone actually wants to bond and connect with others, when I travel alone I'm going because I want to be alone.
Great video. I had all the same experiences and valued your comments. I think one of the most interesting is that we do best when we are around new people. I also did busabout and solo. Both experiences were amazing. Lead me to South America solo after Europe. Some of my best friends today are random travelers I met in the road from 2002 in Europe.
I'm new in your channel and I plan to do a 1.5 month backpacking in Europe in the future, some time around 2024. Will take a look on your videos soon. Take care!

Good nx practical advice. I'll add on I found helpful. Europe has a lot of overnight city-to-city trains. Take them and you'll not only save on housing. you'll arrive in your next city the first thing in the morning ready to see the sights. You'll also be able to see more since your travel time won't be during the daytimes.
Really liked that stuff about being oneself no matter where we are..! Cant escape from myself that easily - but it is possible to escape the Norwegian winters by renting an appartment on Tenerife :P

I've always wanted to do this, and I think I can definitely afford it now. I want to do it next year. I am not a social person, and have a hard time knowing what to say when talking to people. No one I know can afford to do this and I worry it won't be as good solo, and I won't be able to make connections with random people I meet to make the experience that much better

One thing to remember when meeting new people that I find helpful is to remember that you dont have to be the most fun person they ever met. Just be there and be nice and chill. The hostels also arrange like pub crawls and stuff. Getting drunk with new people is the easiest way to get to know them tbh!
Hello im from canada going to irland for abit then spain then i have no idea going to for 3 to 4 months i inow it all depends on want you do and eat but if you stay at hostels and dont eat expensive but do fun things would 10 000 be enough

Pack light. It's probably the only tip I wish someone had told me. Everything else is a learning curve. Carrying half your belongings with you until you realise it's pointless is just a waste of energy. 🤣
Hello, thank you for this video. It was very helpful. I am hoping to travel Europe April 2023. My question is, what did you do about the different currencies of monies? did you just change up your money when you were in that particular country? did you use a travel money card? How much cash would you recommend to have on you? Also ive never stayed in a hostel before. did you leave all your belongings in the hostel lockers? and did you travel around with your passport or was that left in the hostel locker? Thank you x
Do you recommend having a part time job (something online, < 20 hours/week) while backpacking? I'm planning a 3 month trip to Europe this summer, but I'm not sure if I should work a little to supplement my expenses or if I should just focus on traveling. Would appreciate any feedback!
I've been on the road for 7 years now after leaving the UK with just £50 and a bus ticket to Amsterdam. I used work-and-stay websites like Workaway or Woofing to find jobs that offer food and accommodation, for around 20 hours work a week, for the first year. It made my whole travel experience, during and since much easier and more fulfilling. It almost felt like training wheels for travelling. Especially as I was flying by the seat of my pants, I HAD to find work immediately when I got somewhere new. If you actually have a budget, this will stretch it ten times further and you'll meet tonnes of other travellers doing the same thing. I used it for just a year and knew everything I needed to keep going for another 6 years and 5 countries. All 5 were in the first 3 years, as I got to Spain and loved it. Been here 3 years now. 👍👌
I think only you can best answer that question. Having money come in on a regular basis is always beneficial as it allows you a significant amount of flexibility while you travel. In my case, it allowed me to stay in hotels where I have my privacy and my own bathroom (among other things). During days when I'm feeling burnt out from all my traveling, work was such a welcome reprieve, believe it or not. For several hours during that day, I feel normal again.
Okay this is probably an odd question, but did you have trouble with phone connection while you were traveling? I'm just worried in case especially if I'm hiking and need to get back to my hostel and get lost or something. I guess I should get Verizon if I want connection everywhere.
Hello! Thank you for this video.
