Wow! This came on my youtube recommended and I watched it assuming it had millions of views. Incredible production quality - this deserves so much more attention
Servus,. I did a solo trip like this 2x when I was19 and 20 years old, coming from America. I always loved to travel…landed in Paris…visited about 5 Countries the first time, and then another 5 the second time…loved Germany and Austria. So many deep memories I remember today…30 years later. The food, stories, residents you meet, smells, tastes….I can remember many of them today. I always felt AT HOME when I visited. It changed my life. Jump ahead….25 years later, I fulfilled my destiny….and we moved my entire family of wife, 6 year old daughter and 8 year old son to Southern Bavaria in the mountains. And now my kids too get to see the World, meet the great people, Taste amazing food, experience art and history. We love it here, and kids are now 10x better off experience beautiful Europe….than the hustle, bustle, culture free America….we had committed to 2 years…and now 6 years, our kids never want to leave. Thank you Germany. Thank you Europe. People, who are here are amazing and need to realize how lucky you are to live in such a great place. Ich Liebe dich. Danke
Wow this inspired beyond words can express! I just came back from a semester in Italy and could relate to you so much, made tear up. Happy and encouraging to hear your story
All I can say is that this video is SO underrated. It derserve so much more! I mean the editing, the landscapes, the concept of voice messages,... I loved it, it makes me want to travel so bad !
This is quite literally the most romantic thing I have ever witnessed. And by romance, I don't mean the romance between two people or such. Idk how to justify my first statement, but just know that it is true.
I did this too, summer of 2019. Amsterdam - Zagreb - Split - Dubrovnik - Bar - Belgrade - Sofia - Istanbul - Bursa - Ismir - Efes - Cesme - Istanbul - Budapest - Bratislava - Krakow - Berlin - Ruhrgebiet - Haarlem. 8 weeks total.
This defenitly deserves an award for short film or documentary of some sort. You should apply it for some film festival! The whole voice messages story also gave me major ‘one day’ vibes, the movie with Ann Hathaway. Just really love this video!!
You have no idea how inspiring this is. You've inspired me to do this. To see the world. To not be afraid. To learn that not having things under control all the time can actually be a good thing. To let go and see where the wind takes you. I will go on a trip like this one day, and I can only hope to have as much of a good time as you did. I don't know you David, and you will never read this comment, but thank you.
The music, the cinematography, the voiceovers everything is so perfect man I am sure you had a great time. Glad the youtube algorithm made me find this gem!
"I wish I could stay but I feel like I need to keep going." I'm watching this on 1/2/22, two years since I last traveled and it rekindles my dreams for solo travel and more discoveries. Thank you for this beautiful video!!!!
Really really enjoyed this. Very well done. Made me nostalgic for the 5 week solo train trip I took across Europe after graduating from university in 2016. Was the best experience of my life. Cheers to you and your future!
@@davidjablonski_ Thank you David for the video. It is so nice :) I am from Lille and I hope that you liked my city :) I am curious and I am wondering to whom were you sending all these voice messages ;P
Probably the best travel video I’ve watched in the past year. I loved the simple, yet communicative editing on this one. Truly beautiful sceneries and surely an adventure to do once in a lifetime!
David, thank you for this. :) I did a similar thing a few years ago and this brought all the memories. The idea of sitting by the train window as the world passes by, The sense of constant detachment moving from one place to other - deeply moving. You captured it so well.!
Im planning on doing the same for 6+ months in eastern europe. Grtting an apartment and making it a slow travel rather than bagbacking type of travel. I was wondering how did you manage to budget for such a trip.
Dropped out of college myself & set off to Europe for the adventure of my life. It’s a right of passage for a youngster. I did it 35 years ago. I still am lost in such a big world. .
@@houseofhas9355 ahh man… I was a college kid. Had no real plans but just to go with the flow. We got Eurrail pass & used it as our night time hotel. Try to take ferry over to Greece from Italy. Try out the French Riviera. Get down to Morocco.
It just hit me so hard! There are so many possibilities and no plan is also a theme of my life now. I'm just sitting here with tears in my eyes and planning my next adventure as traveling makes me feel alive the most. I guess we all can be lost sometimes, it's good to know that you're not alone on this journey
I met my Girlfriend interrailing last year in Italy in a hostel, I know live in Portugal, Lisbon with her 2000km away from my old home of germany and have picked up surfing and I am doing an internship that tries to promote interrailing as a sustainable eco friendly way of traveling. So it is safe to say that interrail has completely changed my life, for the better. Some of your voice memos resonated deeply with me, if you're ever in Portugal let me know and we will share our travel stories. Ps: Deine Art des Filmemachens is einfach unglaublich gut, ich Habs sehr genossen mir deine Reise anzuschauen.
This was incredible. It took me back 18 years when I did the same thing. Now, I'm sitting watching with my 4 year old, my youngest child, in our quiet house in the states, remembering when I was 20 and hopped around Europe with wide eyes and a wandering spirit.
Something about this video made my heart ache on so many levels. I miss travel, for a start, but I also feel a personal growth and the unique feeling of truly spending time in your own company. A beautiful video.
The shots, the storytelling through the voice messages and the background noise with no music is what makes this video beautiful. I am honestly surprise this doesn’t have a million views. I really enjoyed it. Great job!
You made this video so beautiful and so gentle, that it goes deep to the soul. I did a few such rail trips alone as well, and I fully share your emotions, but I was never able to name them so well, with a touch of poetry.
You're a natural storyteller, the emotions that carried through and wove a story were so natural and could be felt, and made sense of the visuals too. There was quiet beauty in this, the slow pacing, the mood, and i love that you didnt use background music for much of this especially in the beginning.
This is absolutely stunning!! Incredibly well made, I have not seen anyone use this idea to show their journey. The fact you used very private voice memos to tell this story, linked with images from your train journeys towards whatever destination. As a viewer it gives this feeling of the fast landscapes, the empty feeling traveling can give, but also the beauty of being a solo traveler. The way you become to love the scenery, and how wonderful it can be to be alone, just because one is alone does not mean you're lonely. In the beginning, we often feel lonely, and the urge to stay somewhere comfortable is present, but the urge to keep going is stronger. You might not have said it like this, but this is how I heard your messages, linked together with the footage you showed us. Really well made, I really enjoyed watching this, back to end. I am just starting to learn how to film, and don't think I could format such, it must have taken you a lot of time to edit all this together. Just, well done. :) My compliments!.
I’am getting through a tough time in my life right now. I watched this video - it made me cry and smile in the same time. Felt like I’am myself having this lonely journey and being on the road. Thank you!
It's genuinely best video I've ever watched on UA-cam and the first time I even think of to writing a comment ! Such an inspiring content narrated the best way with the voicemails... More than a travel video this is such a great short movie you made here David! Thanks for the show
wow, I'm solo inter-railing right now and you expressed all the feelings I'm feeling. Except I'm feeling reallyyyy lonely right now. but I really relate with the fact that the beautiful landscapes don't feel real and they feel like you're dreaming.
Wow, I totally agree with all these comments. The editing, pacing, choice of clips evokes such a complex emotion. Of longing, of wonder, or peace, of solitude, of beauty. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Wow... absolutely breathtaking! Gave me chills and left me in awe. What a beautiful and serene cinematography. This captured that feeling of solitude perfectly. Standing ovations from me. I felt like I walked out of a movie theatre after seeing amazing indie film.
This is one of my favorite videos since youtube recommended it to me, I was impressed with the production of the images with only an iphone. Congratulations, try to make more videos on another trip.
This was INCREDIBLE!!! It's been in my watch later for quite some time and I so happy I'm finally sitting down to enjoy it. Your editing and choice of voice messages was sublime! This was an experience - thank you for taking us along ❤
Man, this is storytelling at its best. A bit of traveling between countries and a lot of traveling with your mind and soul. Great great job. And please...go back to London.
This video is so beautiful! I watch it every time I get stressed about my own upcoming solo journey and it always helps me to calm down and realise that not everything has to be planned. That it will be okay. Thank you!
This was filmed on an IPHONE?????? The quality was so stunning I literally cried, I thought you had a fancy camera or something 😭 the voice notes make this so personal as well, I really feel like I was there with you. I've always wanted to travel and this really inspires me. What a beautiful video.
this is the video i was searching for and it wasent easy! you my dude show the "freedome" of traveling alone, the fear and the realisiations of things. i hope you are doing good! you taught me a lot
feels a bit like the video game Firewatch; you almost start to really believe that you are the person on the other end of the phone and even your mind generates feelings about it. absolutely delighted by the photography and by the care with which the whole content is handled.
You are a very gifted filmmaker! The story-telling, the editing and soundtrack were on point, it was very pleasing to watch. It made me remember when I travelled across Europe for the first time when I was 28. A brazilian guy, really far from home, with a global train pass going to one country to other during 3 months, meeting new people on the way. Sometimes, when something aparently annoying happens (like missing a train), it is an opportunity to live a different experience or even meeting someone new. I only wish I had invested in a better camera to get such HD videos like you did. Congrats!
This was one of the most beautiful videos I've ever seen! The productional value was incredible, the idea was very unique and the story was so calming and sensitive I almost cried!
"As much as I wish we could see each other more often obviously, I think even with some distance in between us we're still doing just fine" - es muss schön gewesen sein, so zu empfinden.
Oh God, you make me wanna go to the nearest shop to buy the camera that I’ve always wanted and head straight to a solo adventure. What a refreshing way to vlog a trip. The cinematography, editing, and story-telling - just wow! This needs to go viral asap. Love from the Philippines 🤩 🇵🇭 P.S. I just realized at the ending that you’re only using your phone to film this! 🤯
I'm actually on the last three days of my Interrail trip, that I started nearly one month ago. I was very familiar with a few places you showed. I also was in Abisko Östra (you can still go further to Riksgransen ;-) ) , I was even in the same Hostel like you there, sat at the very same table ;-). I'm impressed of your long journey and the wonderful capture of it. I think you really described quite accurate the feelings while travelling like this. Thanks for this great video!
@@battenburg6089 It worked better than expected. I recommend to read about the countries you wish to visit and their conditions, who are in effect and how it will bother you or not. I didn't want to visit countries, where you have to go in quarantine. If you are not vaccinated, you'll have to get tested to enter most countries, it's some time and money you have to spend, but it works. And honestly, everytime when I crossed country borders, my test certificate was never controlled on postivity or negativity. The control staff just wanted to see if I actually HAD a test.. xD
@@EzraThaler Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. The problem for me is being from the UK, our goverment is very very picky currently on where they allow us to go, likewise being from Britain visiting the EU currently tends to turn heads, not to mention stupid quarantine laws for when I return home and a stupid amount on testing. I will keep my eyes open, just hoping something is possible by the end of the year :D
@@battenburg6089 You are welcome. Luckily, I live in Switzerland, so we had mostly similar or the same conditions for travelling like other EU States, even though Switzerland is no EU country. It strongly depends on the amount of corona cases of your homecountry, how the conditions may apply on you for travelling. Where can you travel to actually, when you're from GB? You will surely find a destination to travel to :-)
@@EzraThaler Right now, not a lot of places haha, most of the EU seemingly appears off-limits, I am probably going to stick to my homeland this year, and will wait for the eventual all clear from the mainland, just because I don't want to added stress of getting tested at the border, potential quarantine etc. I have plenty of places in mind, but like I said, I shall explore my home until it is possible again!
I've travelled a lot and have watched many travel videos. This is by far one of the best travel videos I've seen. With your pictures, editing and voice notes, you have great skill in storytelling. Please keep them coming.
Thank you SO MUCH for to share this trip with us. I TRUELLY ENJOYED your comments about your feeling during this trip. Much love from the UK from a old person Yes, my self did traveled a lot from north to south of the earth from the north pool to Australia middle east far east and Us and Cananda
It remind of my Europe trip nine years ago when see you were writing the intercity trains, I had travel through half the Euro during 50 days so I need to write that every time taking a train. I guess you feel the same way that so much enjoy sitting beside the window, the nature scenery fly away as quickly as time does. I watch the vlog lots of times, really like it, very much!

It's been 5 years since my last solo interrail trip and thanks to this video I'm actually about to cry :). All the things you mentioned on your voice messages, I totally agree with them all. From being on your own but not feeling lonely, to the distance relationships with your girlfriend but also doing just okay. I can easily say that the video has great quality and thanks to youtube algorityhm, I was able to watch it.
You are truly living my dream. Life is confusing and painful right now, I am stuck in a repetitive existence. I’m longing for adventure and meaning. I’ll live vicariously through others like you for now
Wow, you managed to capture all the diverse beauty of Europe in such an honest and relatable way! This short film was a memorable way to recognise and remember the places I've already seen in past voyages, and to discover new destinations for future ones
Great video. Thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Amazing images interspersed with words of wisdom, self reflection and discovery. Hopefully it inspires others to search out that journey in which they too will find out about themselves and the world around them, wherever it may take them. Thanks for making and sharing 👍
This video takes you to your own journey in a beautiful way. This is how and what we feel when we travel and thanks for reminding me all these feelings. Can’t wait to travel again !!
This film was raw, honest, and relatable. From the silence, you chose to show the scenery at the beginning, a common sound in our lives, through your storytelling of trying to navigate through life in those early adult life stages. Xx

i hope you are doing good! you taught me a lot
i also really hope you got the girl
Nice did not expect you to start in my area of Lofoten/Narvik ❤ I start my mini interrail on Friday but it n Central Europe
Amazing trip and work ! I almost cried
I wish there were more travel videos that captured the strange feelings you have. Great job, amazing video.
What a great video. Absolutely love the creativity. So glad this was suggested, I’m commenting before it’s even done.
I was looking for some interrail experiences as I’m planning my own trip but instead i have unexpectedly watched a beautiful a short film. Thanks :)
feels a bit like the video game Firewatch; you almost start to really believe that you are the person on the other end of the phone and even your mind generates feelings about it. absolutely delighted by the photography and by the care with which the whole content is handled.
Love from the Philippines 🤩 🇵🇭
How has travelling been this year? I am planning my next trip but I am unsure how current conditions effect travel across all Mainland Europe
This video feels like before sunrise
What a marvelous video, thank you for taking us along 😊
I've travelled a lot and have watched many travel videos. This is by far one of the best travel videos I've seen. With your pictures, editing and voice notes, you have great skill in storytelling. Please keep them coming.
This video is the most intimate and romantic way of looking at life and the world ,thank you for sharing this little journey
Thank you SO MUCH for to share this trip with us. I TRUELLY ENJOYED your comments about your feeling during this trip.
Much love from the UK from a old person
Yes, my self did traveled a lot from north to south of the earth from the north pool to Australia middle east far east and Us and Cananda
What an inspiring journey this was, filmed very very well, mellow and quiet, the music, the voice notes, bravo sir, this is phenomenal
This tugged my heartstrings a lot, iy makes me wanna cry :') such a beautiful love letter errr film dedicated to Luisa.
Hoping to see more sweet videos like this!
Words can never describe how Capturing and Beautiful this is. Thank you for sharing this to the world!
This video is breathtaking and so so genuine!! Thank you for making this:) Also you're so cute ^^
Great video. Thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Amazing images interspersed with words of wisdom, self reflection and discovery. Hopefully it inspires others to search out that journey in which they too will find out about themselves and the world around them, wherever it may take them. Thanks for making and sharing 👍
So much work was put into this, you deserve more subscribers and views
I am genuinely obsessed with this video
Thanks for this video David, I am going to Europe for the second time and this video is really helpful :)
I'm watching from Australia :)
What a beautiful film you made!
It was nice to see couple of towns from my homeland Finland and the video was very relaxing and well made.
Xx
It it so creative and well thought at the same time so sensitive. I adore the concept and even tone of your voice after London, it’s just amazing 😍
Thanks to this video I created a favourite yt videos of all time playlist. So far this is the only one in it.
Thanks ! A great advert on why train travel is so much better than flying...
I recognized many train stations, including Port Bou !
This popped up in my recommended and made me really travel sick. Beautiful short movie! Well done
I love how you travel, and I listen to all your commentaries, I hope to visit Vienna one day soon!
