The 361 is actually a good idea with the turbo, because it has 5-bolts around each cylinder (as all BBM's do) and a smaller bore for more gasket sealing area between cylinders. You can get AutiTec/RaceTec to make you a custom piston in say .060" over and get custom Cometic head gaskets with the smaller bore. I did this with my 318 turbo motor, with small chamber MoPar Performance aluminum heads. I went with the 318+.030" bore (3.94") and a 4" bore Cometic gasket for that reason, a more stable head gasket.

I cut out a section of video where I pull out an old used 383 gasket that I hadn't tossed in the trash and that gasket gives the 361 a lot more meat around the sealing ring. I found some off the shelf 400 SBC pistons that work if I bore the block 30 or 40 over. The limit in the manual says the limit is 30 so when I pull the motor out, I'll take it to the machine shop and have it checked out to see what we can do

@@nightwrencherperformance The problem with a 400 SBC piston is the compression distance and pin diameter. It will be cheaper to get an AutoTec/RaceTec piston for a 383 MoPar made to the smaller diameter, than having to buy long chevy rods custom made and modifying the crankshaft for Chevy journals. The 361 has the same compression distance as a 383, so that one change in the piston will be reasonable, cost wise. You can safely bore any 361 .060" or more, some say .185" over (.060" over 383 size!) but I wouldn't try that.

@@rodneybyrd9516 I agree with you but what I found is that I can use stock for 440 rods. The only thing I would have to do is have the small end machine doubt and then have a bronze bushing installed to accept the floating pin on the chevy pistons.

You need to use shim steel head gaskets with your turbo, those felpros are for low compression engines. Keep that oil changed frequently and new rod and main bearings every ten thousand miles or less depending on how hard you run it. Oil changes every 1500 miles on a stock 1967 426 Hemi and that is the recommended bearing change interval for the Hemi. You can't tell how good used oil is by looking at it nor can you tell the condition of a rod or main bearing by looking at it unless you have x-ray vision.

I used MLS gaskets with ARP bolts on my 383, 14 pounds with the GT45 and 0 issues so far. *Knock on wood. I have about 2000 miles with countless WOT pulls in a 4400# 67 Newport with 2:76 gear so she’s workin hard.

I think what helps it live is I'm running an FiTech system with an MSD distributor so it can also control timing. Its a 383 HP but i swapped to late model 452 casting heads. 40 thou gasket. Dropped from 9.8:1 to roughly 8.1:1 compression. Using the Fitech I run 40-41* under high vacuum cruise, drops to 36 WOT, and 24 under boost. Seems to keep cylinder pressures in check and the plugs look good. 14.5-13.9 cruise AFR, 12.5 WOT, fat 11.1 under boost. @@nightwrencherperformance

Stock bottom end, stock cam, stock crank, stock 4bbl intake manifold, and stock 727 all with 92k miles lol. Just did over 1700 miles round trip to vegas and back. 0 issues. It would be great to line up 2 3rd gen Chargers on the track!Just Mopar Joe is going to help me get it finished up next month and I will be adding the content on my channel.

Core shift! That's why it's so important to examine and chose a good block.
Just open up the cylinder where the valves are hitting a little, no big deal, look at BBC cylinders!!

I might have the whole thing bored out. Theres a lot of cyl wear so maybe I can go 30 or 40 over and drop in pistons with valve reliefs. After that just notch the top of the cylinders a bit and that should really help this motor 👍

Same head gasket problem I have with my 273.Off the shelf gaskets fit all the way to a 360 and my engine is .30 over so the fire ring of a 273 specific gasket hangs too close to the cylinder for me to be comfortable. When I freshen her up I'll look at different brands to try to find the best fit. Also I'm running J heads with the big valves but no interference because of the overbore.
