When you remove the old tube seal put a new one right away. If you remove them all in one shot you'll forget to which side they sit and you may fit them up-side-down.
Friendly Suggestions: 1) remove power steering hose & put glove with zip tie to hold the liquid, put aside. 2) using flat screw driver twist open gently on both corners of the valve cover. 3) lift upwards gently. 4) Clean off old RTV gasket before putting new & use a small dot & the rest of the rail. 5) Use torque wrench & follow torque sequence according to repair manual. Most importantly: Use OEM gasket seals even if using aftermarket valve cover.
Also, may as well change the VVT solenoid while you have the valve cover off since its right there and easily accessible. Great tip on removing the power steering line.
A few things, most important to leas important: MAKE SURE YOUR TRUST YOUR TORQUE WRENCH! 8.7 ft lb is not much! I stripped the threading in the engine block corresponding middle back nut. It felt like a lot of torque much but I kept going because it didn't click. It's not the end of the world but a huge hassle. 5 nuts correctly torqued (with a friends torque wrench) along with the hondabond liquid gasket have been holding the top and it's not leaking. To get in I will need to cut the nut off and rethread using a helicoil kit. This is very common, but please read this and be carful!!! If you don't have a 29mm socket to push the spark plug rings in, just use the old spark rings! They have a nice stiff metal core surrounded with rubber to prevent scratching the soft aluminium and they are the perfect size. I didn't have a mallet so I used a hammer to hit a short piece of 2x4 to hit the old ring into the new ring. Worked like a charm. The rings I got were a pretty tight fit unlike what was shown in the video. When you get the cover back on, the spark plug rings wont be seated on the tubes. Just poke them a bit with a screwdriver and make sure they have a good seal. Be carful not to tear them. The factory service manual says to make sure the gasket is clean and dry so I didn't put oil on it like Scotty says to. Not leaking so I think that's the right choice. Also make sure to clean the old hondabond off and use a plastic scraper so you don't scratch the mating surface. Are you around Sacramento CA? Shoot me an email and use my hondabond! 1 tube is enough to do this job about 600 times lol Good luck and be carful with the torque!! Joseph
My 2006 Honda is having issues getting the cover tubes off! They’re breaking into small pieces and falling everywhere… having to chisel it off, it’s so stuck that we’ve torched it to melt the plastic and no luck
Those 4 extra 4 seals that the kit comes with are for the Ignition coil boots.. you remove the old ones and slide the new ones on I recommend using a little lithium grease..
Once I popped the valve cover loose with a screwdriver, I removed the valve cover nut seals. This allowed me to remove the cover from the studs much easier.
Man, how did you not strip/break the valve cover bolts with that thing. I was hand-tightening and snapped two studs. Had to remove the valve cover, remove the bolts, and replace the bolts, and redo the whole thing. ~7-8 ft-lb is not a lot!
Might want to let the ATV sealant cure for an hour before final torquing down of the valve cover. Disconnecting the power steering line at the pump allows the valve cover to go back into place much easier.
Thank you! With this video I have successfully replaced my accord's valve gaskets. Here I have one problem that when I speed up on the highway at 120km/h, a little of exhaust gas( I am not usre about the smell, but smell like ignition gas) comes into car room. The removal method shown in the video for the spark plug tube seals is TERRIBLE. Using a pry bar will gouge the soft aluminum. DO NOT DO WHAT HE DOES! Instead, get a 6" length of 1/2" diameter PVC pipe. Insert the pipe at an angle in the spark plug tube hole from the TOP side. Now, set the outer edge of the PVC pipe on the edge of the seal, and tap on the PVC pipe with a hammer to knock out the seal. Tap one side of the seal, then the other. do you have to drain the oil first?
no
thanks bro i changed it already tho!
ok kool lol. just in case you didnt. you moght wanna look onto changing gasket for vtec solenoid as these are common for leaking. i did this a month ago. just a heads up.
Sir,
I REPLACE THE GASKET TO MY HONDA ACCORD 2005 4 CYL. BUT THERE IS LEAK FROM CORNER ON OPPOSITE SIDE OF WHERE THE TIMING BELT AND RIGHT SIDE CORNER. Please suggest me what to do. What is the best RTV and how much I have to apply? Really Appreciate.
you need rtv on the corners like in the video. just follow the video and you should be fine.
what is the best way to apply, on gasket or the body?
on the cylinder head. Did you not watch our video?
NutzAboutBolts did you apply on the half moon by cam shaft? i can see the old hondas gray sealant
Notice at 25:34, he installs the hose clamp, then at 25:46, the hose clamp is not installed anymore.
He edited and the sequence used was incorrect thats all. Ignore it, its a nice video.
rajd1974 lol, I know, just pointing out xD
How did you know you needed to replace? Or was this routine..
If there’s any leak on the valve cover, You want to change it
Thanks ! Perfect tutorial)
FYI the other seals are for the coils.......
John Krag
THANK YOU!! I've seen like 6 videos about this similar engine and how to replace the spark plugs and the cylinder head gasket and none seem to know, or care to mention, that there are 2 seals related to each spark plug and coil; the inner seal and the one that goes on the top part of the head cover.
John Krag nope
So there are 2 seals one for inside the valve cover gasket and one on top of it?
One is shown installed in the video. The other one goes on the coil pack. Look at the underside of your cool packs. It seals out dust and water from getting into the spark plug tubes.
any tips on taking that out? and putting it back in? Thanks.
Do you have specs for the cam cover to valve cover stud torque specs
Do you need to coat any portion of the tube seals during installation of the tube seals at 12:52?
Oil helps them slide in
NEVER EVER USE POWER TOOLS TO INSTALL VALVE COVERS , BY HANDS ONLY
I can't pull out my oil dipstick, whats the problem?
Maybe the gasket on the oil dipstick is stuck because it’s old and brittle? It should just pull up
Those O rings for the spark pkug tubes wont get out wtf?!
any idea on how to get out?
Seal puller worked for me
Great video man! Thx!
I’m assuming that your engine cover says SULEV because you’re in California. The other states accords just say “i-vtec 2.4 dohc”
Dumb question.....I'm new to honda. This the same engine and procedure as an Acura RSX?
Anthony Lopez very similar
Clint Eastwood thank you.
Yes they’re both a K24A I believe. The RSX one has slight differences, but for the most part they’re exactly the same.
Thanks, good video.
Where do you get the parts, cause auto zone gave me the wrong one.
Rockauto.com, Amazon, eBay.
Does anybody know the part number, it would really help me out please and thank you!
JUST USE YOUR VIN NUMBER OFF CAR
Did you have to cure w/ the sealant?
Yeah, it cures in 30 mins.
Is the same as 2004 Acura tsx
Yes
What pry bar toolset or size you used for the tube seals?
Its a snap-on pry bar tool set, but any set will do. I believe we used the medium size pry bar.
what brand gasket set? i want it too cause set i got the tube seals are tooooooooo harddddddd to put im.
Johnny B they’re beck and arnley
@@NutzAboutBolts thank you!
let me know when you can do a video on the timeing chain and water pump thank
What kind of RTV?
+MrRangerZr1 the black RTV kind.
best to use Honda Bond !
NutzAboutBolts Is this to stop leaking or?
what brand is that electric ratchet? were do I find one
+Vincent B Its by MatcoTools. It is a 1/4" cordless ratchet, I think they cost around 100+.
It would’ve been a great time to check/adjust the valves if you had over 100K miles on the car.
