4 kids? When I was a kid, we didn't eat or drink in the car, only when we went on holiday. It seems we all have to eat, chew, consume, drink, take more and more, no matter where we are. The transformation is absolutely amazing, but I fear it will soon be the same.
That’s how I always did it too. Kids don’t need food on the way home from school, grocery store, etc. just while traveling
I have 3 kids and the only time they eat in the car, is when we treat them with McDonald's, I honestly hate when parents blame the kids.
I hope that after seeing the bill, they will think a bit differently

I really hope he charges a good amount for these details because some of the customers reaction don't seem as genuwine for the amount of hard work he put into each vehicle. I would be ECSTATIC after opening the door! They're just like, "pretty good".

Wow Mitch! I don’t know how you cope with some of these details, the interiors make my stomach churn every time!
When I was an auto glass tech, we were required to vacuum the vehicle when our job was complete. If I had one of these I would spot vaccine the glass I could see but refused to clean these rolling trash cans. I got paid by the job, I would of lost money if I would of cleaned these things. Bravo to you for cleaning this thing.
Like saying "4 kids" makes any difference. If you keep the car in such conditions you have a real problem.

Correct. I have 3 kids and sometimes a 4th (grandson) and my van does not look like this.
I was thinking the same! Poor excuse. It takes 2 minutes to pick up the rubbish after the trip ends or better still, try and avoid letting them eat in the car in the first place though appreciate this is not always possible. I keep a mini vac in the back, any crumbs get sucked up immediately in the rare occasion a biscuit is eaten.
OR... even better.... make the kids pick their rubbish up!
But even if this cannot be done for whatever reason, and given the car is not exactly looked after like some of us would, take it down to one of those car wash places - 5 minutes and its clean inside/out.
Maybe they do have a problem 🤷♂️ depression could lead to conditions like this
My old car was bad because I'm super lazy and bad about cleaning, but it wasn't like that! Messy, yes. Inside dirty? No!

You really must get a feeling of satisfaction when completely transforming a pigsty into a new car and then getting compliments about the job from the customer, that has to be a rush to the ego. You do incredibly amazing work on these cars and you deserve 👏 all the praise

Parents, its all on you! "Kids, before you get out, pick up your trash and throw it in the garbage can." How hard was that?
My team Captain's two kids (we called them the "Damien Twins") would nuke his van and he wouldn't clean it up...ever. The stench of sour milk/formula, vomit, diapers etc. was so bad and it got worse as the kids grew and graduated to solid food. "I'll drive" was a threat of punishment.

I have a kid and i work full time, we eat in the car because our doctor/therapy is an hour drive away. After we get home I take our trash out. Sometimes i forget my coffee cup but i keep my car clean. To me, my car is my freedom, and i remember when i had no car and had to ask for a ride. So i take care of what i have.

I would like to see some engine detailing. I’m sure some of these vehicles must have dirty engine compartments. Also would be nice to see some attention to the roofs.
He charges extra for that and I remember him saying not many people add it to the detail when they schedule it.

Whew! My mom would've whooped our butts if we ever made such a mess in the car! Granted, she didn't let us eat in the car much and she kept a plastic bag in there for garbage collection. You wouldn't dare make a mess and not pick it up upon getting out. 😬
Great transformation Mitch, as always! I’m moving to Canada soon and would love to hear your opinion on car insurance companes. Which one to pick and how much it usually costs to insure a car. Apparently there are no online calculators which tell you the cost right away.
Your best bet is to go to an insurance broker for picking out insurance companies, he most likely won't know much about them unless he's used several companies himself. I used to work in auto claims and the best advice I can give you is no matter who you use, make sure you understand what the coverages do and don't cover and don't skimp and be cheap. Not having enough coverage can financially destroy you in the blink of an eye. Remember, what insurance doesn't cover comes out of your pocket.
Depends on the province you are moving to. Most have their own insurance company. Like B.C. has Insurance Company of British Columbia (ICBC)

I think a full haz mat suit would be beneficial.
If their house looks like their van, CPS or the Canadian equivalent should definitely take a hand. My parents had 4 kids also, but we never let our things get nasty. The cars were cleaned on a regular basis, including after any long trip. Also, If us kids had created a mess in the car, or used ink, or crayon in the on the car, we would have been punished. Probably with a hand to the back of the legs.
Do you flat rate your detail jobs, ( so much for a van, so much for a truck, etc) or do you create an estimate based on the condition of the vehicle?
I think you should have charged a premium, plus a hazardous materials disposal fee, plus hazardous duty pay for this one.

Amazing transformation!!! Sad the mom blames the 4 kids! I have three and I detail my 2021 4runner every week. My kids are not allowed to eat in the car PERIOD!!!!! No one is, even me, because this is my biggest fear.......a nasty dirty vehicle! No excuse. Clean your car weekly! So sad!

Just wondering what Mitch and /or the community thinks is the best way to clean dog drool from interior plastic/leather. I hear using a steam cleaner is not recommended since it heats up the protiening in the drool.

We ALL struggle with different aspects of our lives. Some people are lovely and kind, but messy. Some people are cold and mean, but very clean. If you don’t struggle with being messy, be grateful, and focus your attention on improving something you do struggle with, rather than condemning someone you’ve never met. We have no idea what they may have been trying to get through.

This was the grand caravan from a while ago in the original garage. You look so relaxed in your short and flip flops. Nice to see. That van was a gold mine of discarded snacks. I see where the pink carpets mean not every snack was a winner. People who think your job is easy forget about things like vomit and old cheetos. If they let their kids trash the van, I wonder how the house is treated. That wouldn’t fly in my world. Trash bags exist for a reason folks. Judging by the tone in her voice, I guarantee you it was back to a nasty health hazard within a week.
