You mentioned Tarzan, and I’d already come to the same basic conclusion: I don’t think you could do Jessica Rabbit without it being creepy and/or inappropriate. MAYBE it could work as a character they bring out for certain special nighttime events (like one of those ‘80s nights), but you can’t have that character walking around Toontown. The princesses get enough creepy comments from dads as it is.
Yeah, unfortunately a Jessica Rabbit face character would cause too much of a headache. Karens would be flipping out over their little Johnny and Suzie seeing Jessica's cleavage, and they'd also be pissed at their husbands who obviously don't want to be there hanging on Jessica, drunkenly hitting on her because they had one too many Fuzzy Tauntauns at Oga's Cantina in Galaxy's Edge, and are convinced that the hot princesses and Jessica Rabbit face character being nice to them means that they're "into" them, and not just being polite because they have to be nice to guests as part of their customer service job. (And I don't say that in some nasty, accusatory way that some people have with women working in customer service "being fake to get you to buy stuff", because I *do* work in customer service, and me being nice to the customers is completely genuine. I *do* want people to have a positive experience shopping at my store and having me ring up their groceries at my register, not only in the hopes they keep returning, but because it makes me happy when I can help others and make them happy-- but at the same time, I don't want creepy old men thinking that me providing excellent customer service is me hitting on them!)
I think she could work great as a walk around character if she's wearing her detective uniform since it covers up 90% of her body. But I wouldn't want any poor girl to have to play Jessica in her original outfit just because of all the comments she would get.
@@leth9264 I’ve only seen the movie once or twice in its entirety, so I didn’t remember that disguise. Yeah, that might work (you could even stick her in front of Toontown’s police station), but she’d have to be a face character. Again, the mask was creepy, and there’s no way her usual getup would fly with or without it.
It would just end badly like this one cosplayer I saw at comic con. She had on a fake breast situation and something like that would be highly inappropriate for the parks.
It wouldn’t be any different of an outfit. The only thing creepy or inappropriate would be the gross adults interacting inappropriately with them. They are why we can’t have nice things.
She was always really nice whenever I saw her at the parks as a kid! The first time I saw her I wanted to hug her bc I was pretty little and I didn’t know any better 😅 Her handler seemed new and had a look on her face like ‘oh no child no no no’ but Divine was very sweet and pretended to hug me back with her weird stilt arms as my parents reminders to ‘use gentle hands and not touch without asking’ finally got through to me and I just did an equally weird air hug. It’s one of my favorite and yet slightly embarrassing childhood memories 😂😅
Jessica Rabbit certainly falls into that “uncanny valley” and it would be so much easier to make her a face character and put her in her detective outfit Also if the Spectro Men were face characters instead of masked ones, they wouldn’t be on the list
13:00. When I was a child, I loved the vhs tapes Disney came out with. I would watch them all the time, no matter the season. This sing-along-songs were my favorite. I loved the popcorn Winnie the Pooh and the other fun clips. However, I remember being terrified of the trees in the Haunted Mansion sequence. All of the villains scared me so much. The trees only added to it. The little dance that they did with their tree limbs is still burned into my memory. I had so many nightmares from them. When they would come on screen, I'd cover my face to not see them haha. To this day, I still feel unsettled when people hold their arms up in that position. It took me a few years, but I finally figured out why. Thank you for bringing these horrifying characters up
The thing about Park Woody is that he looks like he was stretched horizontally in Microsoft Paint. The best redesign is that one that makes the face AND the body look slimmer.
That Sing-A-Long Songs is from the “Disneyland Fun” video, and it brings me great joy to see it because even at 30, I still watch it often (with my kids). But those trees are super spooky.
I remember being terrified of the SpectroMen as a child. I would literally scream and hide behind my parents. Even when they updated them, they were still horrifying
I only remember seeing the Spectro Men once in the parade (around 2004) I remember my four or five year old self being terrified, but I couldn’t look away. Then right after I went on a night ride of BTM. Honestly forgot about that memory, until watching this video.
They look like a Chucky doll knocked up a cabbage patch kid. What in da ever living fuk’ was Disney thinking? I would have shit my undies if one of those things came within 50 feet of me!
Wanna hear something weird? I had that Sing-a-Long VHS and was never scared of the Haunted Mansion segment. But you know what DID scare me? The crowing rooster at the beginning of the Pongo & Perdita Sing-a-Long. My mom would try to fast-forward past it since she knew I'd start crying, but that was hard to do because it was literally the first scene. So, yeah. The infamous Haunted Mansion song? Totally fine to toddler me, I'd even dance along with the trees sometimes. An innocent chicken waking up some doggies? Awful, horrible, nightmare fuel, get that cursed thing away from me.
That Ursula float was a very special memory for me! I thought it was so cool when she came over and talked to me as a child! Spectromagic is also my favorite parade... the music is iconic. As far as the spectromen, I think the masks were already pretty much phased out by the time I was a kid in the early to mid 2000s. So no I wasn't particularly afraid of them lol.
When I first took my 3 year old (although to Disney employees he was "2 years old") to Disneyland there was one character he wanted to meet based on whatever Disney cartoons he watched, it wasn't Mickey, wasn't Donald or Goofy, it was Pete... and I had no idea to tell him that Pete isn't at the parks... and seeing that costume thankfully not!
Your Number One awoke a memory within me that I didn't even know I'd had. I had that on VHS and watched it religiously! I also had the Christmas sing-along one and I am still annoyed that I cannot find any trace of the audio from those sing-alongs on Spotify :(
Yesssss!!!!! The Disneyland VHS Ding-a-ling songs was my most FAVORITE!! I still watch that with my kiddos to this day! ❤️ The haunted Mansion one was my most favorite!
Spectromen remind me of the glo worm toy when I was a kid. Mom got me one to help with my night terrors. It worked great, my night terrors were never more frequent. Some reason she yard-saled it, it was really helping my night terrors along so well, too. Just a maggot with a glowing face, what could go wrong, right?
Aww, I had a glo-worm as a kid and it actually did help with my night terrors. Mostly because it was a warm, heavy, glowy thing I could hold, and that was comforting. A couple of years later, my parents realized how terrible my eyesight was, but by the time I got glasses, Glowy was just my buddy and his face didn't bother me. I guess it's more comforting if you don't have to look at it. 😂
THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING OF, thank you, I couldn't place that face, now I know, it has the exact same dead looking round face as that damn Glow worm, lol.
Yes! Thank you! I’m glad we have an understanding of this. Disney, if you’ll listening, make Jafar, Hook, Hades, and the Dwarves (maybe) human, and possibly, make it so most characters can talk! Sometimes the silence must be broken. I have spoken.
This video was a great birthday present for me today. I can't agree more on all these choices. I remember I had the Disneyland Fun sing along on VHS (that I still have) and the trees really freaked me out.
I always thought I was alone in not wanting Ursula any where the hell near me. It was hard being tough in the face of green Ursula. Her body would drive slow then speed up to the audience. No.
12:46 when I was a little boy, I absolutely loved this segment of the video. I danced to it, and sang with it, but I didn’t want to go on the ride until my parents dragged me through it when I was 6 years old, at first I was terrified in the stretching room, screaming to get out, then after the lights went out, my parents were screaming (they still do, it’s a tradition) and I was laughing at it, and after that I rode it 3 times in a row. I’m 15 (you dropped this on my bday, greatest gift I didn’t know I wanted) and it’s still my favorite attraction and that music video it pure nostalgia for me, thank you for including something integral to my childhood and who I am. My mom also says I look like you Offhand, but a redhead lol.
You definitely unlocked a memory with that Disney sing-along. As soon as I heard the OOooOOOOooOOooOOOooo my head started sparking and I didn't know why until I realized it was the sing-along. Holy beans man, I do the OOoooOooOooooo part in that specific way constantly and now I remember where it's from.
My parents love to tell the story of an Aladdin Character Meal we had when I was two or three. According to my parents, I had been keeping my eye on Genie when Jafar snuck up on me & scared me right under the table.
Is the "Spooky Sweater" spooky because the green turns transparent against the green-screen? Making you semi-see-through and ghostish? Because I noticed that it does. XP Also, I think ALL the characters have an element of creepy about them...I know I never really liked them as a kid. I don't think I ever ran away crying, but I just kinda was unnerved by them.
Funny story I have about DiVine, I went to Disney World in 2006 when I was nine, and she walked past us while walking through the Animal Kingdom and I swear to go her stilt came within two inches of hitting me in the head. Like it was so close I heard the "woosh” as it went by. So to answer the question yes I do have a crippling fear of DiVine.
i had the disneyland singalong vhs as a child, and the haunted mansion segment (particularly those freaking trees) scared me so bad that every time it came on i would hide my head in my knees and plug my ears until it was over, and yet somehow got upset with my mom and my brother for going on the ride without me the first time i went to the parks. don't quite know how that happened
You know people used to tell scary stories by the fire on Christmas Eve? Woody's a doll, not a human #5 reminds me of that Snickers Halloween commercial with the "woman" putting Snickers in the shopping cart or Shaye Saint John! Jessica Rabbit, especially reminds of a documentary I saw years ago about people who do something called "dolling".
One costume that was very temporary but still instills fear in me is the Sora costume they made when Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories came out. Why they didn’t just make him a face character I will never know. The costume was all fine until you got to the face mask, and then you’re attacked by the uncanny valley. It’s also just sad how popular KH is but Disney like refuses to acknowledge it’s existence.
These tree people during the Grim Grinning Ghosts segment of Disneyland Sing-Along used to terrify me when I was young. Where are their costumes today, and have they also appeared in other events?
Those spooky trees look a lot like the ones from The Wizard of Oz. Maybe MGM threatened to sue Disney over it, and that's why they never appeared in the parks?
A Jafar cast member accidentally smacked my mom in the face with those weird fingers because of the fake fingers and the insanely low visibility of the mask. He non-verbally apologized, though.
I watched the 90s videos as a child in the 1990s and still absolutely horrified of the Sing Along Ghost Trees! I can’t believe Disney hasn’t brought these back somehow, they were long forgotten. I’m glad you featured them here for those haven’t seen them
I love the memory of Spectromagic, although I had no clue WHAT I was watching, I had only just turned 7 that week... The "spectro-men" have you, terrified me, burnt in my memory forever. The only other fond memory is the smell of fog... Which if anyone remembers back then smelt like burning rubber. I would be so happy to see Spectromagic again!!
I used to have that Sing-Along Disneyland video when I was a kid! That Haunted Mansion part freaked me out. Glad to know I'm not the only one who was afraid to go on the Haunted Mansion ride as a little kid.
Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but the trees in the Haunted Mansion Sing-Along segment are from Snow White! The scene where she's being chased through the woods, like in Snow White's Scary Adventure.
Lady Divine is my favorite thing to see at Disney. The fact that she is rarely known about and that she blends in with nature and you don't notice her unless you're someone who appreciates nature. When I noticed her she was absolutely gorgeous. Well casted and then another year when I went, she crossed the walking path and it was incredible and I got chills but in a good way. She's amazing. I hate that you have such a negative opinion on Lady Divine.
Ohhhh, I get it!! Dallin's "special friend" is OBVIOUSLY Dan, guys! They seriously thought they could pull the wool over our eyes, but us Foolish Mortals fans are too smart! :D
When I was a kid, we owned the vhs tape with the Grim Grinning Ghosts video on it, and it scared me so badly that my mom taped over the segment with home movies lol. I still get a little bit of a visceral reaction watching that segment now haha
omg I thought I was the only kid who was terrified of those damn dancing trees from the Disneyland Sing-A-Long segment, I had nightmares a bout them back in the day lol
Hey, Dallon OD! (Overdrive!!!) Candlelabra, (endless Hallway in Haunted Mansion), its the stretching portrait characters, the Cheshire Cat in Disneyland's Alice, the Jungle Cruise alligators, the Mansion's changing portrait characters, and the Pirates.AND the O.G. Mansion Hatbox Ghost.
One of the earliest pictures of me at Disneyland (as a toddler) is me crying next to Snow White because Doc and Dopey were with her and I was terrified of them
I’m aussie and prolly won’t ever make it to the parks, at least in the USA. The thought I of being jump scared or bumping into DiVine is so fun. Random unexpected unscheduled magical moments
i have never been to a single disney park :( but i gotta say, i absolutely love your content :) at least this kind of stuff. dont much care for the parks news but any time you cover rides/attractions or the history of the parks, THIS video, I love it! :) I'll have you on the mind when I finally visit one of the parks i'm sure. you and Rocco from mega64. his game days videos are always gr8
I hope you manage to go one day, they're truly one of the best experiences on earth. A great way to switch off from the outside world and just a really uplifting, great place to be. :)
@@lozlullaby7947 it'll happen someday c: I just wonder how it'll measure up to Silver Dollar City. I grew up going there and I'm kinda bummed knowing that there probably isn't another amusement park that can beat that experience. but if any can, it'll likely be a Disney park!
i adored those trees as a child BECAUSE they were scary and i was a weird kid XD I'd cheer "MY TREES" every time they came on at the front of the VHS tapes i'd rent from the store (all halloween disney flicks)
Andy's coming wasn't an old myth, at least not at wdw. They used to do it, but people found out, and it was being said to much and became a safety concern for the characters, so they stopped that really quickly after.
Yup, and also someone else in the comment section mentioned that it would ruin the costumes if done too much, so the cast member assigned to walk around with them just says Andy's away at college when someone tries.
Awwww, I had completely forgotten that my kids would make me fast forward through the Haunted Mansion song on that Disneyland Singalong Songs tape! They're also adults now...I should pull it up on UA-cam and see if it stirs up long-buried trauma for them. Mom of the year!
I've always thought Big Bad Wolf was Goody's weird cousin. Also, the Kingdom Hearts version of Pete would be perfect, unfortunately, that's not the one we get
It was summer of 1992. The guys with the white faces leading the electric light parade creeped me out. Especially because we were sitting in the front and they would ride right up to the edge of the curb and they made weird bubbly noises or whatever the heck they were. My stepdad actually just remastered our videos from that vacation. They still creep me out watching it 29 years later.
I finally feel vindicated at your number one. I’ve never heard of anybody else growing up with that Disney singalong tape, glad to know I’m not crazy 😂
When number one was coming up i was wondering what could possibly beat all the others and then I saw the beginning of the sing a long and was shouting my agreement to this. I as well love the haunted mansion and it is my favorite attraction but oh boy did those trees scare me!

The Pete costume is quite cute to me, maybe cuz he's a chubby dog, maybe it's the eyes, maybe it's both.
I think Pete might be a cat.
@@mcwjes Yes you're right, my mistake xD I think i was thinking of another cartoon dog.
SEEING THE GRIM GRINNING GHOSTS TREES UNLOCKED A CORE MEMORY FROM DEEP IN MY CHILDHOOD
Those tree spooky things in the sing along video are the reason I wouldn't go on the ride until I was like 9 or 10!!!
The Jessica Rabbit costume is pure nightmare fuel! 😂🤣
0:10 - 0:15 Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house, not a creature was stirring. Not even a mouse *Creepy Mickey Appears* Get it?!
Pete's a very rare character to ever see as a walkaround, same with Ratigan.
Chernabog in the spectromagic parade traumatized me so much as a kid. Like just thinking about that float now gives me chills
@14:38 Offhand Disney subconsciously channels the Ghost Host leaving us on the ghostly tour. XD
I’m watching your video in June , just wanted to let you know... great decorations and podcasts!!!!
Awww I always loved the vine lady. Thought she was so cool!
I like the peg leg Pete costume, it’s not as creepy as that… that Scary Godmother…
Ive never seen those trees --- Omg I love them so much. And ghost donald. :o
omg I thought I was the only kid who was terrified of those damn dancing trees from the Disneyland Sing-A-Long segment, I had nightmares a bout them back in the day lol
I love that Donald Duck with a ghost sheet over him. Pretty cute.
One of the earliest pictures of me at Disneyland (as a toddler) is me crying next to Snow White because Doc and Dopey were with her and I was terrified of them
Offhand Disney you got it wrong, Chip and Dale are clearly Chinchillas!
I think they might be ferrets
I’m aussie and prolly won’t ever make it to the parks, at least in the USA. The thought I of being jump scared or bumping into DiVine is so fun. Random unexpected unscheduled magical moments
To be honest, the Spectromen never bothered me. And I'm starting to think I'm the only one 😅
i have never been to a single disney park :( but i gotta say, i absolutely love your content :)
at least this kind of stuff. dont much care for the parks news but any time you cover rides/attractions or the history of the parks, THIS video, I love it! :)
I'll have you on the mind when I finally visit one of the parks i'm sure. you and Rocco from mega64. his game days videos are always gr8
I hope you manage to go one day, they're truly one of the best experiences on earth. A great way to switch off from the outside world and just a really uplifting, great place to be. :)
@@lozlullaby7947 it'll happen someday c:
I just wonder how it'll measure up to Silver Dollar City. I grew up going there and I'm kinda bummed knowing that there probably isn't another amusement park that can beat that experience. but if any can, it'll likely be a Disney park!
I comepletely forgot about those haunted mansion tree things thanks for unlocking a memory
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the galactic starcruiser situation.
The trees used to terrify me as a child, I would always watch that part with my hands covering my face
This quite possibly one of the best videos yet
Dalien hitting the fake fire with a lightsaber made me laugh so hard I coughed...well done sir.
I adored the vine people when I was a kid, which is pretty impressive considering I was the most fearful child ever.😅
I watched the Disney sing along songs and the grim grinning ghosts when I was like 7 and I remember being terrified
i adored those trees as a child BECAUSE they were scary and i was a weird kid XD I'd cheer "MY TREES" every time they came on at the front of the VHS tapes i'd rent from the store (all halloween disney flicks)
I’m actually kinda glad we can’t actually meet the creepy Haunted Mansion trees
Awwww, I had completely forgotten that my kids would make me fast forward through the Haunted Mansion song on that Disneyland Singalong Songs tape! They're also adults now...I should pull it up on UA-cam and see if it stirs up long-buried trauma for them. Mom of the year!
I've always thought Big Bad Wolf was Goody's weird cousin. Also, the Kingdom Hearts version of Pete would be perfect, unfortunately, that's not the one we get
No mention of light magic??? Those troll things are nightmare-inducing
The Haunted Mansion tree costumes are genius designs 👏🏼
You know what Disney character they should make into a costume? Nessie from the ballad of Nessie, she’d be so adorable
10:32 we interrupt this video to bring you this cute doggo
I feel like the scary godmother is going to possess me in my sleep.. frightening
My new sleep paralysis demon
