My random fact is how I changed Disneyland in a relatively significant way. Dumbo the Flying Elephant specifically.
When I was 3 or so, we were waiting in line. Being the little kid that I was, couldn't hold my attention at all. So I looked at some flowers behind the bars in the fence.
Lo and behold, my head was soon stuck in the fence. It took longer than it should have to get me out since I was freaking out, but it didn't actually take all that long.
The next time we went, the bars were far closer together, so that other stupid kids wouldn't try that again.
That is one of my proudest achievements.

What year was this? My little sister got her knee stuck between those bars!! They had to let people go ahead of us while a cast member tried using sunscreen to loosen it. Somehow they got it out... And then my sister, who caused all that trouble after she'd been told NOT to stick her legs between the bars got to hold the magic feather!
I have a crazy story about how my little brother changed Soarin' Over California, but it's a bit more eventful.

Here’s a useless fact: in late 1981, I was chosen as part of a crew to do overnight monorail beam electrical testing on the Epcot line, and we literally were paid to pilot a train to a portion of the Future World loop that wasn’t even completed yet! They had electrical power to a certain point, made us drive a train to that point, sit there with power on, then kill power to the train, boot back up, kill it again…and so forth and so on. This went on literally ALL NIGHT LONG! We were told not to doze off, but honestly, it couldn’t be helped. I napped for at least 2 1/2 hours at one point with nobody contacting me to do ANYTHING! It had to be the most boring night of my Disney Monorail career, but it apparently was for good reason.
I did that overnight testing for 3 days straight, then was put back into regular day shift rotation…but it WAS kinda fun, thinking back on it. The other fun aspect of those testing nights was getting to run a monorail at full speed on Epcot’s beam from the back cab in full reverse mode all the way back to TTC. That was pretty wild…good times for sure…

The Walt Disney lamp only went on at night when he was alive to let workers know he's there but the original lamps probably fried or broke someway over the near 30 years and needed replaced regularly to keep tradition alive. The current one just looks like the 50s style and more efficient than the likely halogen lamps Walt actually used (that are also against code in commercial buildings around mid 80s to early 90s for safety reasons).

Casey Jr. is a must ride every trip due to some very specific childhood nostalgia. When I was about 12 years old my dad and I arrived at the park towards the evening on Christmas eve after a National Lampoon style roadtrip from hell. Everything in the park was packed, so I ended up marathoning Casey Jr. which was a walk on. I tell ya, the atmosphere on that ride at night really is something else.
The canal boats are definitely the superior way to see the miniatures, but Casey Jr. gives you a really wonderful overview of Fantasyland and even has a fun little themed lifthill. The attraction is exactly what my mind goes to when I think of stuff Disneyland has that really sets it apart from the other parks.

Here's one nobody cares about: There's a cabinet behind Madame Leota in the séance room. It's a "Spirit Cabinet," a thing mediums used to produce ghosts in the old days. So much about the séance room is based on things that would actually happen in real-life séances. The circle the doombugies make around Leota, the floating objects, the musical instruments played, the rapping on tables and ringing bells, the orbs of light.
The Imagineers made so many references to the conventions of ghost stories and spiritualism, it's a little shocking. They either did a butt-load of research or this stuff was more common knowledge back then.

Só let me get this straight. There was A LAMP in Walt’s apartment. When Walt was in the apartment, obviously it would be on and people would know. so while the story that the lamp was on to remind people may have no evidence, but does it not stand to reason that the workers glanced over and saw the lamp on and deduced Walt was in the park, and that just became a thing? I’m willing to bet that’s what happened and then years later someone was talking about the good ol days and how they’d look to the window to know if the boss was in and from there they said, that would be a good way to honor that memory. I for one don’t mind this one AT ALL!

Edit: I just looked up some information on it. It looked really cool! They had actually done a lot of planning for it before it got cancelled. Then they were going to do another resort in Tahoe that they put even more work into but it got derailed by government bureaucracy. Kind of sad, although I can also see the environmentalist side of wanting to leave these areas undeveloped. It would still be cool to see Disney build more resorts not connected to their theme parks. One of my favorite obscure things is the hidden astronaut that was at the top of Spaceship Earth. That scene before the descent, where you're looking out at Earth from space, was initially supposed to be a view from the moon- if you've ever noticed those weird shapes in the dark along the floor, those are painted black moon rock props. There was also originally a small space pod above the track just before you start descending, with an astronaut figure looking down at the surface of the moon. I don't remember if it were actually implemented or if it was just in concept art, but I also remember there being a buggy.
Early riders and the first few weeks of guests noted that the effect wasn't at all convincing, so the Imagineers did the cheapest and fastest solution they could and just went to Home Depot or sumn and got a ton of black paint to hide it all without actually moving it out of there. This includes painting over the space pod and the window on it, so for some indeterminate amount of time from a few weeks after closing, there was just this hidden animatronic figure hanging above and looking out over all the riders, which freaks the shit out of me. I didn't even like that easter egg in the Pooh ride where there was the mounted moose head behind the cars when you enter a room, recycled from the ride that was there before.

If your eyes are adjusted enough you might notice a dark column on the right that extends to the ceiling. This is a black duvetyn curtain that hides a high reach machine used to get to the hatch. Interesting that I've been on a Disney ride that Dallin hasn't! Last time I was at Disneyland, I intended to ride the Carrousel for the first time. However, it was very late and very dark and I was very sleep deprived and I couldn't figure if I was in the queue or a viewing area, because people were getting on the ride but the nobody in front of me was moving. So I gave up and went on Casey, Jr. -- which I had been on before, but not at night! So it all worked out. I also had some trouble finding the entrance to that because the path looks like it's just a seating area, but I eventually figured it out :).

I'm sure something in the Haunted Mansion counts as a goblin. It just has to be small and mischievous so I guess the gargoyles count. There are for sure goblins in the holiday overlay.

Disney actually has favorite high school marching bands, or at least favors some over others. When we played there last year we were backstage at the same time as another school, and we did our little parades back to back. They gave us both speeches and everything after we played it was honestly kind of surprising how highly they spoke about our band compared to the other? I still have no idea why they like us so much- our school is invited something like every 4-6 years and apparently someone usually gets sent home early for shoplifting, so maybe there’s money involved or something? Anyways that’s a useless fact for you

Another random fact: The Angler Fish and Marlin figure in The Seas With Nemo and Friends has a completely different animation loop today than it had the first year or two that it opened. Most likely to reduce wear and tear, as it's initial animation was quite quick and snappy.

Pirates (fun FACT) The pirates in certain scenes where there are many are actually scaled "down" to be "optically correct" If you view them up close, they look more exaggerated. The women on the turn tables chasing the pirates their cleavage actually bounces (this effect was designed by Alice Davis, Marc Davis wife) Disney staff + their kids were used in some of the "AA" figures. Harriet Burns "hands" were used to go on some of the ladies "AA" figures. Bonus Pirates. The one in Paris has a drop midway through the ride because the 1967 From Pirates to Disneyland (Wonderful of Disney show) showed the ride through & 2nd drop was actually put just before the Yo Ho singing pirates. They wanted the ride to "pace" that way. The "story" is also told 'backwards' in Paris.
