Perfect person for this position is you. As an aside, we have generally felt the port and shopping lecturers have been, on many cruise lines, guided by recommendations where the cruise lines or lecturer was receiving a kickback from the businesses recommended. Try to remain loyal to those listening but at the same time keeping your job. An interview with Chris Wong would be very interesting. Happy sailing on RCL.😊
I just found your channel today by You-Tube recommendation. You are great. You have the perfect personality for the job. Bright, cheerfully, friendly, sensible, and much more. I can listen to you talking all day. Thanks.
This is the perfect job for you! So exciting! I’m on Royal Caribbean next February and then a transatlantic in October’24. Maybe I’ll finally get to say hello.
I wish you good luck on your new job. You will thrive because you can persuade people. Your channel helped a lot I think. I wish to come one day on a cruise there and be able to meet you
As a Floridian, let me suggest you keep an eye on any storms. The Caribbean can be a bit of a hurricane magnet. I'm sure most tourist areas have safe accommodations, but always stay stocked up on extra water & some nonperishables throughout the season.
Very, very happy for you, Hope you are successfull in your new job and have fun doing it. Looking at your videos, you are the perfect person for that kind of job. Have a nice cruise!
Congratulations on the new job. I think you will do wonderful. I enjoy watching you and learning about life from a crew perspective. While I don't think I will ever work on a ship, I do cruise a lot and I want to respect the men and women that make for a memorable vacation for my family and I. Thank you for all that you do and I wish you the best journey on your new path.
congrats on the view. Port lecturer, you are outgoing and I'm sure will be a good fit good luck RCI, is our favourite cruise line. Hope you get a window room
Sounds like it could be a hard but fulfilling job, and a lot of people will be counting on you to get the best out of their cruise. After seeing dozens of your videos I'm sure you have this and I wouldn't hesitate to cruise on the ship you are stationed on. Good luck and I hope you have great success and continue on to bigger and better things.
So cool you mentioned Jordan (I assume Bauth), ice cast on RC ships - just finished her short contract on Wonder. I wish you the best with your new gig and happy sailing. 😊
This is such a perfect fit for you. I actually guessed this to my boyfriend - Port Expert for Royal Caribbean. I’m sure you are nervous and excited, but I truly think RCL is lucky to have YOU as the face of ports and shopping. You are a compelling, interesting and articulate speaker. You’ve got this!
Congratulations Lucy! We have four Royal Caribbean cruises booked. Hopefully you will be on one of our cruises. We live in Florida and yes, we have lots of very hard rain with close lightening. Be careful. So happy for you!
im sure your talks will be much more interesting than what we had on P&O AUS, our port talks on our 2 cruises with them went for 15-20 mins. they mentioned the shore tours that they were offering, but no real information about the shore tours and what you would do in them and that was it. they mentioned nothing about places to shop or places to eat or the port itself, we were shocked as it wasnt what we were expecting. we wasnt given any brochures or discount vouchers or anything
We have had the same shopping guide on two totally different ships and it was really cool to see the same lady and chat with her about the fact we had seen her before. I think you will have a lot of fun in this role! Congrats!
I am so thrilled for you! Although you enjoyed working in the shops, I was hoping you would start to move up the ladder and make a long term career on cruise ships, or at least be able to switch to a management job in hospitality should you one day decide to “drop anchor” and get a land-based job. So happy this opportunity opened up for you…much success!!!
What a cool gig. Its definitely right up your street. I hope its everything you hope it to be. You’re gonna be amazing! You’ll pick up the accent the more you hear it!
Good luck to ya girl !! I think you'll do great. Take it from a 20 veteran of cruise ships... you are in a great position! I remember the days when the Cruise Directors were the Port & Shopping lecturers.
I love Royal Caribbean! My wife and I have done 6 different cruise lines and we always end up back at Royal or Celebrity. Maybe one day we will run across you in the not to disturb future when we find out what ship you end up on.
Ha! I guessed it! You will be great. Hope Royal treats you well. Next step--learn all you can about the individual islands and other ports you'll be visiting (history, culture, etc). You could ultimately move to one of the lecturers who discusses those things. They are typically older people who have lots of travel experience.
Congratulations thats great news and a new chapter in your working career sounds so exciting. Question how many of you are there doing the training and will we get to see any of it.
I'm an older lady Lucy and I love to follow you 😊 I also follow Chris Wong and Jordon Bauch so terrific news about your new position. Look forward to all of your new adventures mate !! Thanks from Bris Aus
*****me PRAYING you'll be on Wonder in Dec....I'll come to every lecture!! I feel like you're my long lost bestie!! You're so down to earth, honest, kind...you'll be perfect for this new career adventure!
Let’s be honest Lucy, you will be a Port lecturer in Europe and an in port shopping guide in the Caribbean! You’ve moved over to the dark side to become the scourge of the onboard Jewelry and watch teams ha ha! You mentioned the Legend of the seas, it was sold to TUI cruises as I was the shop manager who closed it down! Great memories and a great team as I remember!
OMG!!! Congratulations!!! 🎉🎉🎉 I'm soooo excited for you! Have fun with the training and I hope you are surrounded by amazing people, just like you! So excited to come along on your next journey. You are more than perfect for this role and you get the added bonus of "normal" business hours for training AND weekends off. Have a blast! Big hugs to you from Colorado! ❤
Congratulations Lucy, you have everything needed for that. You will rock! And yesss please, talk about accents, the british accent is very stylish but little bit hard to catch for non native english speakers 😅
Congratulations on your new position, Lucy. Just assure us that the port and shopping guides are not getting kickbacks from the shops that are being promoted. It has always seemed to me that we were being sent to shops that were not the best deals nor the most reputable, but the shops that were kicking back the largest fees to the cruise line.
I've heard this as well and so my first question was the same. Do they get kickbacks or not? Please solve the mystery Lucy we need to know! Congratulations on your new job and I look forward to your new videos!
Business is business folks. Of course, Lucy will be pointing people in the direction that is going to make money for her and her employers. That's a normal function of the "sales world". Many of the ashore options are providing the cruise lines with income, but they do provide a service for their passengers. Everything is user pays these days.
"Kickbacks"? That's a bit harsh in my opinion. (they are paid by the PR agency, and/or the shops, and/or the ships....just like most promotion / sales staff) Please accept my preface here that I'm not a cruise ship passenger, nor crew, as I sail my own boat....but, I have also operated my own business for a couple decades, so I do grasp capitalism. :) And, while I'm one that hates high-pressure sales techniques and I also bristle at the thought of someone giving me a restaurant or retail recommendation based on how much $$$ they make if I eat or shop there....this situation seems different. It allows the passengers the opportunity (not a requirement) to shop/eat, etc. at places they can have a certain amount of trust in....nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything, and everyone understands the modern world of "sales". (again, I eschew high-pressure sales, but this looks different, yes?) With exceptions of some historical and archeological locales (such as Giza, Rome, Athens, and perhaps Rhodes, Venice, Dubrovnik, etc.), most cruise ports with "Port Guides" / "Shopping Guides" (such as ALL the Caribbean and Bahamian ports, as well as most of the other "tourist" ports in Europe...and all the "made-up" ports, such as Costa Maya, etc.), are all Cruise Ship "Port Calls" designated almost exclusively for "shopping", "eating", "drinking", and some beach-combing, windsurfing, zip-lining, etc., and NOT for historic / educational / cultural exploration....AND, the passengers on these ships are (or should be) well aware of this ----- they are paying for these shopping, eating, drinking, beaching experiences. (again, not my idea of a vacation, but "to each, their own", yes?) So, if the passengers are going on these ships with the intention of "going shopping", "out to lunch", "zip-line through a rain forest" (probably after imbibing in some liquid courage), etc. etc....unless they're all research-geeks (like myself), then they need someone pointing them to a decent restaurant of the particular genre that passenger desires, and/or show them where they can find a reputable retailer (jewelry, souvenirs, clothes, etc.), a place to zip-line, para-sail, beach-comb, etc... Now, if this "Port Guide" / "Shopping Guide" is only recommending or directing their passengers to stores/restaurants that pay them a commission, where there are many others (a few...or dozens or hundreds...) such as in major cities like Rome, Athens, etc., then I agree this is unethical. I hope this helps?
Congratulations Lucy on your New Job! You were meant to be in this position...awesome! Love your energy ..looking forward to meeting you someday on RC ship..We cruise often! Take care, hugs
So exciting, as soon as you announce what ship you are on we will have to book it. I would love attending your lectures. Perfect career path for you! You will be simply marvelous!!❤
Congratulations! Yeah, Royal Carribean seemed the perfect fit since they're obviously fine with employees having UA-cam channels. I didn't guess your new job, but it does really suit you, so congratulations on your new career! Since you're going on RCI, there's a real chance that I might see you on board one of these days!
Congratulations! I'm glad you're training for your new job that you seem to like and fits your skill set. I've seen port shopping lecturers on other cruise lines (not Royal) and frankly I'm skeptical of the lot of you. Bot someone's gotta do it, I suppose. Good luck and I'm sure I'll see you soon.
Actually when we watch you explain and interact with other crew members we learn what is expected of the crew and the sailers each job is a lesson on cruising do’s and donut’s, this shopping supervisor assignment is right up your ally I don’t know any young girls who don’t enjoy going shopping!
This new gig sounds PERFECT for you and could be a real stepping stone in your career advancement. Kudos for you being brave & taking the next steps in your future!
Congratulations on your new career, Lucy. Just a year and a quarter my own Lucy and I met you on Valiant Lady. There can’t be a better adviser than you for sailors. June
Congratulations on the 50+ K🎉 And with your new position Exciting times a head. So happy for you Looking forward to your journey have a Good week. Take care 🥰
Ahh, this sounds SO good for you - I’m already excited to see where this takes you! Also, I didn’t realise you started off on Rhapsody - I was on her last week in the Greek Islands, and she’s a beauty! Also, great news that Royal are happy with UA-cam - how exciting!! 🎉
Congratulations on the new job. We have always found the port presentations to be very useful and always go to them, on the couple of cruises we have been on that did not have them we have really missed them and did not get as much out of the ports as when we had the presentations, which was a real shame. You will really be helping to make peoples holidays a lot better.
Congratulations! You are going to be great at it! I will see you on RCCL someday, it is the cruise line I book and sell the most, and the one I sail the most.
You’re new role sounds incredible and one that fits your unique skill set and positive personality! I can’t wait to hear all about it. I am ecstatic you are on Royal as well. My wife and I have been focusing our cruise budget on them so i hope to run into you soon on a ship where you are port lecturer!
Thank you so much everyone for the wonderful comments. Honestly, I don't know what I did you deserve an audience like you! Love you all!
We will be happy to see you on the Rhapsody! 🤩 Have a good start, Lucy!

What’s the name of the Cruise line??? Is it good for crew members?? Like to work
Congratulations on the new role! hope to see you onboard!
The Chris Wong shoutout was dope

Congrats Lucy I think after your first lecture the reality of your new job will catch up😊
You'll be great because your port video was great and that is the stuff most of us want to know before we get off the ship. Have fun!!

You're a natural for the new job Lucy. Hope that you thoroughly enjoy this next phase of your life, Sure you will. Cheers.
I’m very excited for you. You’ll be great!
Congratulations all the best
Congratulations on your new position, Lucy. Just assure us that the port and shopping guides are not getting kickbacks from the shops that are being promoted. It has always seemed to me that we were being sent to shops that were not the best deals nor the most reputable, but the shops that were kicking back the largest fees to the cruise line.
I’ve never gone to a port talk for that very reason.
I think it’s pretty obvious this happens otherwise why would they put the “lectures” on.🤔
I've heard this as well and so my first question was the same.
(they are paid by the PR agency, and/or the shops, and/or the ships....just like most promotion / sales staff)
Please accept my preface here that I'm not a cruise ship passenger, nor crew, as I sail my own boat....but, I have also operated my own business for a couple decades, so I do grasp capitalism. :) And, while I'm one that hates high-pressure sales techniques and I also bristle at the thought of someone giving me a restaurant or retail recommendation based on how much $$$ they make if I eat or shop there....this situation seems different.
Maybe I am wrong, but here (and below), is what I'm told by my local jeweler / jewelry designer (in Florida) that has been on dozens of cruises ---- she says that "everyone" understands that the "shopping guides" are paid by the stores in port and/or the ship (and/or the PR agency that the stores / ship contract to) ---- and, this gives the passengers what they want, despite what those of us on-the-outside might see as incestuous?
It allows the passengers the opportunity (not a requirement) to shop/eat, etc. at places they can have a certain amount of trust in....nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything, and everyone understands the modern world of "sales". (again, I eschew high-pressure sales, but this looks different, yes?)
With exceptions of some historical and archeological locales (such as Giza, Rome, Athens, and perhaps Rhodes, Venice, Dubrovnik, etc.), most cruise ports with "Port Guides" / "Shopping Guides" (such as ALL the Caribbean and Bahamian ports, as well as most of the other "tourist" ports in Europe...and all the "made-up" ports, such as Costa Maya, etc.), are all Cruise Ship "Port Calls" designated almost exclusively for "shopping", "eating", "drinking", and some beach-combing, windsurfing, zip-lining, etc., and NOT for historic / educational / cultural exploration....AND, the passengers on these ships are (or should be) well aware of this ----- they are paying for these shopping, eating, drinking, beaching experiences. (again, not my idea of a vacation, but "to each, their own", yes?)
So, if the passengers are going on these ships with the intention of "going shopping", "out to lunch", "zip-line through a rain forest" (probably after imbibing in some liquid courage), etc. etc....unless they're all research-geeks (like myself), then they need someone pointing them to a decent restaurant of the particular genre that passenger desires, and/or show them where they can find a reputable retailer (jewelry, souvenirs, clothes, etc.), a place to zip-line, para-sail, beach-comb, etc... Now, if this "Port Guide" / "Shopping Guide" is only recommending or directing their passengers to stores/restaurants that pay them a commission, where there are many others (a few...or dozens or hundreds...) such as in major cities like Rome, Athens, etc., then I agree this is unethical.
But, since most of these ports we are talking about have few (if any) stores / restaurants that are safe and easy to access that are NOT part of the Port / Shopping Program, then all the "Port Guide" / "Shopping Guide" is doing, is directing their passengers to the stores / restaurants that the passengers desire.
Very excited for you enjoy yourself stay safe. X
Good luck with these initiatives. Someone with this spirit moves forward in life.
This new gig sounds PERFECT for you and could be a real stepping stone in your career advancement. Kudos for you being brave & taking the next steps in your future!

That’s awesome! Congrats on the new position as well as hitting 50K. We will be on Oasis in December. Maybe you will be on there!

My wife and I have been focusing our cruise budget on them so i hope to run into you soon on a ship where you are port lecturer!
