  • In this video I give a tour of a 1995 Chevrolet Caprice Classic with a 4.3 V8 L99 Engine. Its not a Impala SS or a Lt1 5.7 and it doesn't have an LS swap but it is a nice example of a unmolested B Body caprice.

Back in 2007 my parents bought a maroon 95 with the L99 with 65k on it. It was a family friend’s grandmothers who passed away and needed to get rid of it quick. Garage kept, extremely clean, only mentionable wear was a suspension that began to wear from sitting. They paid $500 and it became my first car. I was 16 and I remember thinking how uncool I would be driving it everyday while other kids had their Acura’s and Toyota’s. I quickly realized that no matter anyone else thought I knew I had the coolest most comfortable ride in the lot. 3 buddies in the front and 3 in the back every Friday and the party didn’t stop until Monday morning. I miss the car everyday (sold it when gas stayed high). I remember paying $80-90 in MD to fill it up those first couple of summers

I love treasures like this. Being born and raised in the American FULL SIZE car era there is just no substitute for these treasures of the past if they are in good condition. That car looks like it would take very little to "zero it out" and bring it back to A1 condition. Those engines with proper maintenance will run to 300K easily. Today's 4 wheeled twinkie bombs are pathetic disposables. They can't offer the space and comfort that Chevy offers no matter what they do, so they are substituting comfort and ride for widgets and electronic gadgets to distract from what a car is designed to do. I'm still driving a 1990 Lincoln Town car Presidential series I keep in mint condition. The last of the 5.0's in that car. after 18 years of ownership still only 140K and it drives like new. I get compliments on it everywhere I go. I try and keep it as perfect as possible. No problem finding my car in a big parking lot...it's the only one that doesn't look like a 4 wheeled jelly bean. Hey max comfort, no car payments, low Ins rates, low license fees...no it doesn't get 40 MPG but still gives me 25 on the highway. I if I can't justify a little more for gas with all the other savings.....something is wrong upstairs. Just imagine what it would cost to reproduce the same size comfort and reliability in a modern car. The cost would be prohibitive. Some people know the cost of everything....but the value of nothing.
