  • Let's peek behind the scenes of my wildlife filmmaking 🎥
This time I'll show you how I film at the cavity of the middle spotted woodpeckers. My friend Peter Schreiber and I have put together an on-set demonstration where you can see everything - what camouflage I use, which cameras I'm currently filming with and how I capture sound.
Sit back and enjoy a few minutes with me in the middle of the filmmaking kitchen 🌳
PS: Turn on the subtitles if you don't speak Czech... 🫠

Hi Lukas. Do you think the GH6 is a better option (for wildlife filming) than the Zcam? One more thing, How is the image stabilization with your actual combo (GH6+T-Smart+60-600), mainly for the windy days. Thanks so much for your help. All the best

    •  9 місяців тому

Hi Raúl, I personally like Panasonic colors way, way better than the Z Cam. With the Z Cam I always had hard time getting the image to look natural, it was always very... yellowish? Also the GH6 is much lighter and easier to operate, plus you have the EVF which I strongly prefer to external monitors. If you ask me, I did not really enjoy filming with the Z Cam E2. The little Panasonic cameras brought back the joy of filming to me 🙂 However, there are a lot of people who shoot wildlife with Z Cam, and are very satisfied. I'm not saying that Z Cams are bad, it comes down to one's preferences.
As for the stabilization - I only use optical stabilization in the lens. I find the sensor stabilization + lens stabilization to be too strong, so it makes the image "float" visibly. It is preferable to get a stable tripod. I believe the in-body stabilization works for people who don't take video too seriously, shoot handheld footage and don't mind that the image is moving a bit weirdly.

Absolutely fascinating!! I've long been curious to know how you manage to get such awesome footage and sound. The only secret you didn't reveal was the source of your acute sensitivity to animals and profound aesthetic sensibility. You are a genius! Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world.

Could you also go through your tripod setup? What legs and fluid head you use?

    •  9 місяців тому +1

My main tripod is Manfrotto 536 with the Manfrotto Nitrotech N8 head. Almost everything you see in my work has been shot with this combo. However, it is not as stable as some more expensive tripods, so I am considering something like the Sachtler Aktiv 8 system for my next filming season. Beside that I am using the Benro HH75AV legs for low angle shots, and sometimes even Joby Gorillapod for macro shots if I need only static footage.

děkuji, já osobně vůbec neměla představu jak vlastně časově složité to je. Vážím si Vaší práce. Btw . bydlím v paneláku 6 patro zateplený a strakapoud mě tu chodí klováním do omítky těšit ... docela nechápu pravda je to velmi slunné místo

    •  10 місяців тому

Díky... Se strakapoudy je to někdy trochu složité :-)

❤❤❤ díky za ohleduplnost vůči zvířatům a lásce ke své práci(svému koníčku?) Fotoaparáty vypadají dobře, podle čeho jste si vybral právě Panasonic?

    •  10 місяців тому

Thank you very much Lukas for this video. For the Sigma 60-600, which mount do you choose: Canon or Nikon? Which adapter ring for the GH6: Metabones?

    •  10 місяців тому +1

Thank you for watching! All of my Sigmas are Canon EF mount. I attach them via Metabones T Smart adapter.

Great insight into what goes behind the scenes. Very impressed with what you capture with the setup. Did you try using a speedbooster for your Sigma 60-600 on your GH6? Should help with the low light, but you lose some reach. Also, instead of two tripods, have you tried using one tripod with a twin head?

    •  10 місяців тому +1

I don't use any speedboosters because of the reason you just named - it steals your reach, which is essential to me with the GH6. Surely there are a few situations where I could use that but speedboosters are no cheap toys, so having one for just the few situations in a year is not really affordable for me. I've been thinking about the twin head, could be great sometimes. However, I often need to get the two cameras much further apart from each other. Even here in the big camouflage tent I sometimes put the cameras in the opposite corners, which a twin head would not cover.

    • @Wildridefilms
      @Wildridefilms 10 місяців тому

@ I understand. You don't need an expensive metabones speedbooster though. The viltrox EF-M2 is fairly inexpensive. Anyways, looking forward to more animal clips and behind the scenes.

    •  10 місяців тому +1

@@Wildridefilms Ha, now you made me remember something - I do own the Viltrox speedbooster! But there is something wrong with it because it makes the center of the shot look hazy, so I hardly ever use it. It's been a couple of years since I last had it mounted, so I completely forgot that I own it when I replied to your comment 😃
