- Slow motion test footage from the Panasonic Lumix GH6 mostly handheld with the Panasonic 100-400mm at 4k 120, and 1080 240 and 300 fps.
Shot in VLOG and edited in Davinci Resolve 17. Added the V-log to V-709 LUT with basic color corrections. Sharpened and stabilized in post. Used the Weebill S gimbal on a few wide shots but everything else was handheld.
Lenses: Panasonic 100-400 f/4-6.3, 42.5 f/1.2, 10-25 f/1.7, Laowa 7.5 f/2
Some closeups were recorded at VINS Nature Center in Vermont.

Great Video. Thank you.
Switching from Canon to Pana Lumix S5 II and 2 bodies, would you recommend 2x S5 II and also with Sigma 60-600mm for Tele or 1x S5II and 1x GH6 with 100-400mm as Tele and for video and photo?
I think the GH6 lens options would be lighter. It also has marginally better stabilization and that 400mm is 800mm full frame equivalent. But it looks like the S5 II has better image quality and autofocus. It really depends on your needs. Having both cameras with different types of lens mounts seems inefficient.
@@benhikes Thank you Ben. 🙏 I think I will go out and try the 60-600 and the 100-400 side by side in a shop. GH6 would be also great for 4K 120. So sad that the S5II cannot do that. Maybe they are 'holding it back" for the S1H II / S2H Camera!?
I dont wanna see anybody in here crying about "autofocus" lol.
What a camera with no auto focus??? 🤣🤣🤣
@@natureslittlegifts lol.
Epic.
The only shot that seemed truly spectacular to me was the one of the heron flapping its wings in slow motion.
Impressive work. Question. Do we get auto focus at 1080P 240fps ??
No AF at 1080p 240fps. I think AF only works at 60fps and under.
Wow, beautiful footage! The GH6 seems like next level.
wow. that stabilization... looks like it was shot on a tripod!!!
This is so much better than talking spec heads. Thank you!
First off, Killer footage. Instant sub and yeah, gh6-time. cheers!
Amazing footage 🙌🏼 what lens/lenses did you use?? Definitely feels like a great upgrade from the Gh5!
The closeups are on the Panasonic 100-400 and all handheld with I.S. Lock turned on. I used some stabilization and sharpening in post. The wider shots are mostly Panasonic 10-25. I'm coming from the G85 so it's been a really nice upgrade.
@@benhikes awesome thanks for the answer! I’ll definitely look into upgrading from my Gh5 🙌🏼
Great stuff Ben. Got mine a couple of weeks ago with the 100-400mm but not got out yet much with it yet. Look forward to seeing more stuff from you.
Did you use any animal detect AF? If so what focus area?
No just manual. I don't think AF works very well or at all in 120 fps.
Awesome footage.. I am getting the camera later this week. You got me more excited for it. !! Great work !!
Lovely shots. But it feels very desaturated. Almost V-Log like, rather than a 709 image.
I only used the Panasonic V-Log to 709 lut. I didn't do much more to the color for this edit.
Hi
You used autofocus or manual focus? If you used autofocus which kind of autofocus you used?
Thanks
Ugo
I didn't use AF. I used the back button focus in manual mode and then small manual adjustments with the focus ring on the lens. Peaking turned on helps nail focus.
absolutely gorgeous.. it's tough hangin around for these kind of shots. 3 thermal layers and full length puffy? 😉
Yes and some Darn Tough socks.
Nice takes and no pulsing in the background. Would you share your AF settings?
I only used manual focus.
@@benhikes thank you
Bro, this is some David Attenborough/Planet Earth level footage!
Great stuff. Not what I'll be shooting with my gh6, which only enhances my appreciation of your work. I may have missed it, but did you mention how you handled focus? At 400 mm I’m sure your depth of field is quite shallow. I notice your shots are in better focus than many other GH6 samples up here.
I use the push button AF with peaking on. That usually gets me close. Then manually adjust the focus ring from there. The lock stabilization mode is handy at 400 mm. I also sharpen in post if the shot is a little soft.
@@benhikes Thanks Ben. You mean the "AF ON" button on back? I gather that is simply a rear focus button, despite the name implying it does more. Almost nothing on it in the manual. The peaking is something I would like to nail down. As a few YTers have mentioned, and I gather you are echoing, peaking doesn't seem to always nail tack sharp the way it should. I have to see if engaging the "enlarged live display" option helps.
@@lanceevans1689 Yes the back button "AF ON" is the button I use to get quick focus. I also like using the MF Assist "Press Joystick" option to punch in and check focus.
@@benhikes Yes, although that only seems to work if you are in video mode, manual focus...etc. There is so much in this camera, and a fair number of mode compatibility issues. It's taking a while to get a solid handle on it all (speaking for myself!) Thanks for your feedback.
nice video
Amazing..
nice work!
Great footage mate
gh6 is a beast
WOW 😍😍😍
Amazing
That opening shot of the eagle looks like Jeff Daniels.
Sorry to bother you, I bought a 100-400 lens and at 400mm, when focusing on infinity, it makes buzzle sound (recorded a video today). Please tell me, is this the normal state of the lens, or a defect? ua-cam.com/video/aufG7GPjA2M/v-deo.html
Seems like a defect. I would return it. Panasonic also has a 3 year warranty once you register it.
what maximum ISO so that there is no noise?
Most of this is under 800 iso but I probably shot a few low light scenes up to 3200 iso. 6400 iso is pretty clean too but I try to avoid it.
My feedback.
1. Music level going up and down is turn off since it move the attention of the viewer from viewing the video to turn the music down.
2. I think nature film should be sharpen and vibrant to the extreme all successful series of National Geographic and BBC are.
