Today we hike the Easternmost peninsula of Madeira Island. This area has very distinct rocky appearance with little vegetation. This is in stark contrast to the rest of the island, known for its lush green forests. This part of Madeira was the first to be discovered by João Gonçalves Zarco in 1419, and is named after his caravel boat.
The Ponta de São Lourenço hiking trail is quite popular. It offers good viewpoints over Porto Santo to the Northeast, and the Desertas islands to the Southeast. Airplanes frequently pass over the area, mostly way mostly from mainland Europe to the nearby Madeira Airport.
After the end of the this recording, I discovered that the trail still goes on to the Viewpoint of Ponta do Furado, a bit further East. Unfortunately I did not film this last part... :/
