Thanks for doing this video and the clear directions to remove and replace the ignition. After I removed the ignition assembly I took it to my local locksmith and the total cost was $28 as they did not have to come to the vehicle, remove, possibly take it back to their shop to fix, and then reinstall. The total time for them to complete was 45 minutes
Thanks for the video. Made it look easy to take out, I did exactly what I did n it popped out. One thing tho. If your going to talk about the part or something. Cut the music off on the video so we can actually hear what ur saying.
I did this and my local locksmith wanted $220 to repair. So i drilled out the 3 roll pins that was holding the front on so i could pull it out to see the tumblers. That is what I called them. There is also a clip on the back side that has to be removed. Once I pulled it out you can see tumblers sticking up and if they are up they are probably broken. Pulled all he broken ones out and put it back together but the cover that i drilled the pins out didn't have pins to put back, didn't care because the security ring i took off would hold it in place anyway. I did see someone on here put silicone and let it dry to hold it in place, so I guess that was fine. Wasn't worried about removing broken tumbles instead of replacing them because even if I could turn it with a screwdriver, it won't start without the key chip and plus the car is almost 20 yrs old. I did stop at harbor freight to buy a $5 clip ring remover tool or whatever they called it. So for 5 bucks and a little labor I was back on the road-- locksmith, go pound sand - $220 ha ha, maybe if he was reasonable I would have gotten that done.
Hi JB, thank you for this video. Any chance you could post it without music? I'm trying to hear what you're saying about what to do with the cylinder itself, and can't quite make it out with the music playing over the sound of your voice. I think I have this same exact problem with my '01 Toyota Sequoia.
Brandon Langford If your key does not turn or feels like its lock. 99% you have the same problem. Removing key cylinder is very easy as you can on the video. Once you remove cylinder take it Locksmith to have it rebuilt they might tell it can't be but insist it can done for $170 or less. Or call around if they can rebuild it. Good luck sorry for music
GandiaOrange Dude! That was the one thing that I could say was wrong with video! Other than that saved me a ton of $ and I’m truly grateful for this video!!!
It was great video and thanks for showing it on UA-cam, but next video while you talk can you stop the music because we can’t hear you what you saying. Thanks
I have a 2001 Sequoia, and have a problem where the vehicle doesn't seem to register the key in the ON position. The ACC position works, and it starts the vehicle when I turn it all the way, but when I go from ACC to ON, it doesn't seem to recognize the change and turn on dash, AC, etc. Thoughts?
Hey try lubing it with WD40 remove key cylinder spray not too much then wipe off excess fluid reinsert key cylinder hopefully that helps..If not you master key cylinder must be replace
I have a Question, My cylinder is getting stuck some times, if I replace the ignition lock cylinder with a new key do I have to program the new key? or the new kye is good just for the ignition and the original key is to open the doors ? Can you Help me please
I went to locksmith to rebuild the master key cylinder need NOT to reprogram or new computer otherwise someone is trying to rip you off telling you something else is wrong
Went through all the steps. The key will not turn to the ACC position. Added liquid wrench and jiggled the key for an hour. Did not work. Anyone else have a solution.
Hello try unlocking the steering wheel maybe its lock make sure steering is able to turn left an rigth with the key in keep jerking the wheel til it unlock

Tip: Since the music is too loud, turn on the closed caption (cc) and you can read what he's saying for most of it.

So if the ignition is locked and won’t turn to acc you will need whole bracket etc?
It was great video and thanks for showing it on UA-cam, but next video while you talk can you stop the music because we can’t hear you what you saying. Thanks
Did you have to pull the rubber plug on the bottom of the ignition switch
Did not pull the rubber simply push that hold master cylinder
Hey Jon in your case steering is locked keep jerking the key and steering wheel at the same time til it unlock
Been doing this to my 2002 4Runner Limited for the past 4 years. Didn’t want to buy a new cylinder and have my chipped security key reprogrammed.
Thank you for your help.

I'm in the same boat.
Couldn't hear much over the music. Nice video though, thanks!
This video was terrible this must’ve been his favorite song because it totally blocked out his voice 🤣🤣🤣
What happen if I forgot to disconnect the battery before changing the parts ?
Not sure. But you should always disconnect battery when ever do work on electrical instruments on your car to simply avoid other damage you may caused
But did your original key have a dot on it mine does and they say I need new computer too
I went to locksmith to rebuild the master key cylinder need NOT to reprogram or new computer otherwise someone is trying to rip you off telling you something else is wrong
If I wanted music I would just turn on the radio
Man I cannot hear nothing
Sorry don't know how to edit it and make better
Just use the English subtitles. Video is very good. Thanks
What's with all of that annoying music? I couldn't hear you over the tunes. It's a h ow-to-fix-it video. Not a music video.
thnx
Your music to loud dude
We can’t hear u with the music?
Can’t hear you over the music man.
