Thank you it worked! The toughest part was getting the key to the accessories position. After fiddling and jiggling the key I just turned it as hard as I could and it worked.
I used a 3/16 inch L-key (hex/Allen wrench) as a pick tool for the release tab in my "Tieyoda" Camry. The problem with my ignition lock was that the tumblers and springs were worn and the key was able to slide in and out when the cylinder was unlocked in the Acc and Run positions. I think a locksmith would be able to rekey the tumblers at half the cost of a new OEM lock cylinder.
Richpin... your instructional videos are ALWAYS the BEST, thank you! FYI... I found out that one doesn't have to remove the lower kick panel to remove the bottom column cover... just tilt the steering wheel up, and it will come out just fine!
@@mattramirez6281 Hey, I know this might be a bit late, but what ended up working for me was using a drill to remove the ignition switch. I drilled through where the pick tool is supposed to go and then I removed the entire lock cylinder by prying it out with a flathead screwdriver. After that i used the same flathead to start the car. Its not beautiful but it works.
My 2005 camry doesn't start and when I turn the key to the on position it has no power anywhere, power windows , radio , blower and dash all are without power, can it be the ignition switch? I have checked everything else, thank you
Two questions that I hope you can help me with. I’m not able to get my key into the ACC position, I’ve tried for several days and it won’t budge. I’ve watched other videos where they suggested to drill into the hole where the pin is. Would you suggest this too? If so, what size drill bit should I use? Second question is I know you mentioned to disable the airbags which makes sense I guess working around that area. Disconnecting the battery would disable the air bags or is there something else I should do? Thank you SO much ! Any advice is greatly appreciated
@@chrisblum8140 No he never responded. I tried compressing that pin using anything I can find and it didn’t work. A friend of mine ended up taking a flat head screwdriver and hammering it deep into the ignition since I needed to replace it anyway. I had to use a screw driver to start the car for a week or two lol but this at least allowed me to get it into the ACC position when it was time to remove/replace ignition. Does your key slide right out of the ignition? That’s how bad mine was, it didn’t stay in. I could literally start the car and pull the key out while it’s still driving.
Hey I am attempting to remove a 2015 Camry ignition. I have a working key and am able to get it to access and depress the detent. It comes out about 1/4 to 1/2 in out and appears to be getting snagged. I know it's slightly different then the year in the video but it's very close. I did pop the key indicator button incase it was jamming on it but didn't seem to fix issue. Any info would be great
My key slips right out too and it turned off and got me stuck at the laundromat for 2 hours hitting my starter with a hammer. I just pray I didn't destroy my starter when I get a new ignition switch.
I think theirs a button for that, unless im thinking about the button for the passenger. And encase you're asking that because his airbag was out in the video, I think it was a junked Toyota Camry that he's just getting for parts or tutorial videos.
Does the place you work at send people to your channel to learn how to replace there faulty part?, if not, they should :-). Manufacturers love to stick crap in the way of removing parts, designers must love torturing people lol :-D
Thanks for this video. Saved my son a bunch of money. Took about 45 mins and his car is back online. Very helpful and worked just like you said.
I love videos like this. Straight and to the point. Thank you for sharing.

Very well made tutorial. I had mine out in 10 minutes, thanks a mil

Your video helped me alot to remove broken key from my Toyota noah. Thankyou
Great to hear!

I literally hear Peter Griffin and I can't unhear it, great video tho!
Often the problem is with ignition switch starter mechanism at the end of the switch housing. They go bad and needs to be replaced.

@@Boydontfuckwithme I haven't found the problem yet, I have checked almost everything, but I'm not giving up
Do you have lights on etc. I’m accessory position? Then everything turns off when you turn yo on?
Very well done. I will give it a shot. Thank you.
Hey Great video ! Is there a need to get the new key programmed or anything ?
You didn’t show how to disconnect airbag?? But did a great job showing us how to replace ignition key cylinder! Thanks!

Great video but if the key does not turn how do get the cylinder out ? How do I drill with out destroying everything ?
Say that again but slower
*Nice graphics/editing*
Thanks Peter 👍🏼
I was bouta comment the same damn thing😂

God bless you for helping so many of us. Thank you.
So nice of you to say that.
You mentioned disabling the air bags. Is that necessary?
Easy peasy. Thanks.
Life saver!
Can you do that with the steering wheel and cylinder locked?
thanks for sharing with us
Why does he sound like Peter Griffin?
Is it just me or do Dude sound like peter griffin
Any idea how to remove the ignition switch???

What if you can turn it to the accessory because the key is broken off?
How did you disable the airbag?

Simple - look in owners manual, find fuse for airbags, remove fuse.
He said disconnect the negative lead to the battery.
Thats the ignition cylinder. What about the actual switch? Its the white circular thing that sits behind the cylinder. How does one replace that?
That what he said he was replacing.
COOL!

How do you install a new cabin air filter for a 2106 Chevrolet Cruze Lt new body style not the 2011 thru 2015.
Peter griffin ?
Could be....lol
Why dose it lose power on a 1989 Ford asrod
The key doesn’t turn to remove the cylinder. Steering wheel is lock and can not turn the wheel to remove 2 screws. Make a new video.
Exactly, that's where I'm stuck rn, did you figure it out? If so please share
