@@redeyecafegarage7484 I got about 135K on one side and 170K on the other. Yesterday I changed the driver's side for the second time. I have 348K on my '04 F250 SD. It's been a good truck and still runs strong and looks good.
Im about to attempt this in the morning. I can build/fab anything as I've been a welder for 30 years. However I'm a horrible mechanic and terrible at turning wrenchs 🔧 🙃 😢. If it was anything to do with the motor I would not even attempt it. Lol
Started my how to research with your video and for the first time in the existence of UA-cam I don't have to look at any other videos. This is absolute awesome and thank you for saving us all the extra time watching loud, long useless videos to get the info we need to do the job!!!
Awesome! Thank you for the feedback! I guess I need to make more videos in this format. I personally got tired of long videos with too much talking. Just get to the point. 😆
Awesome video!! Super helpful! I urgently need to do the right hub on my 2005 excursion. After watching your video, I think I got this in the bag... Next up is welding my EGR shut.
Thanks yeah this was the first dana 60 wheel bearing I’ve done. I looked on UA-cam and all the tutorials were like 20 mins long. I wanted something like this that quickly gave me an idea for the steps. So hopefully this can help someone else who knows the basics but just wants to see the steps. Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you for getting right to it and not wasting twenty minutes showing us how to jack up a truck. (I like how you checked the boxes on that, though.)
Thank you for not having the usual "Intro" and hit the "subscribe" button. Nice music. Very very well made video. This was not easy to make IMO. I have tried.
Thank you! I did my best to make it this way because just like you I got tired of all the bs on UA-cam. I’m a fan of videos that just show you what you need to see. Thank you for the feedback!
Glad you Enjoyed it. It’s been a few years. I honestly can’t remember if they’re the same part number. I feel like if it’s a non abs truck it wouldn’t matter but definitely double check me before you order. I did both sides back when this video came out.
DANA 60 (possibly 50 as well) FRONT FORD 4X4 AXLE 99-04 (dont know if more dates) THRUST WASHERS (though this term seems to include snap rings). Seems to be 3 different sets (but can buy some seperately, dont know if all yet) with 10 total parts.-------2 snap rings spicer # 620142 dont know ford oem # yet, -------2 INNER (goes on stub shaft but on other side of hub) plastic "axle nut washers" spicer # 47766, ford oem # f81z-4228-ba, --------3 each kit (?) of/ including 2 flat round metal washers and 1 nylon hex washer (need 2 sets) spicer # 701166x, dont know ford oem # yet. note: there seems to be alot of fraud fakes out there and dont know if any are real, buy only from ford dealership.
Did you use that special hub/seal tool to re-install the axle/hub seal? Or is it possible to just tap in the axle until the bearing, washers, and snap ring fit with the wheel bearing??? I ordered the hub tool from Amazon and it never came. Had to call them and re-order it and they said they would send it... The ship date came, and they never sent it again. Trucks been down for 2 weeks and I'm tired of waiting and going to attempt to assemble everything without the tool.
I didn’t use any special tools. I just installed the unit as it came in the box. Everything I did is shown in the video. Unless you’re talking about a different process??
If you skip ahead to the part where I take it out of the bag you will see there is a groove on the portion of the bearing that slide into the knuckle. You will see the old o ring when you remove the bearing. That will help you know where it goes.
My passenger side hub area is getting really hot. This is likely the culprit, right? I've already done new pads, rotors, caliper and lines. Also do i need snap ring pliers or will regular needle nose work fine?
Heat can often be an indicator of a failing bearing but not always. Have you jacked it up and pried on the wheel to check for movement? You could probably get by without snap ring pliers if you get creative…. But you can get a decent pair at harbor freight really cheap. It’s worth having a pair in your toolbox. Imo
That doesn’t work very well on the front because the diff is offset. I usually do one side or the other. If I need both tires off the ground I use Jack stands on the frame.
I just wiped a little grease on the o ring before I installed it. These a pre greased sealed u it bearings. There is no maintenance or service on them. Run them until they fail.....throw it out and install a new one. These had 180,000 miles on them.
This video shows everything you need to do this job. The washers and clips are laid out on the rag in the order they go back on. Please do not attempt this job if you are not confident in your ability. That would be a safety issue. Seek help from an experienced mechanic.
Lucky. Nothing wrong with my wheel bearing. But abs wire wasn’t secured properly and inside of rotor chewed through it. Now I gotta replace a hood bearing to get the light off my dash before I sell it.
It makes no difference if the studs or nuts unthread. Because the studs will stay in the hub. You throw the whole thing out and the new hub will come with studs and nuts. You don’t want to re use the studs. Unless I’m not understanding your issue.... 🤷♂️

Are the brake dust shields NOT needed? Mine rusted away. What was left fell off in pieces as I removed the hubs.
Thanks. They are there for a reason but your brakes will still work fine without them.

Is it the same concept on the front as it is for the rear?
No the rear is completely different. They rear is a full floating tapered roller bearing.
Best vid out there! Thanks!

U made that look super easy pulling the hub out, did u edit the video to bypass the banging?
Historically breaking the nuts loose is always the hardest part for me. I didn’t have any trouble popping the hub off. 👍 no camera tricks here.

what about the missing thrust washer between the hub and axle seal? You didn't put one in on replacement?
I put it back together exactly as it came apart you can see all the pieces are there on the rag. This video was several years ago. It’s all good 👍

Mine is coarse thread. As far as I know they switched to fine thread in 2004

My bad didn’t come out right, do you have to have the flat washers behind the locking wring

.you cut the abs...line....for non abs trucks...... is that ok...?..
Yup. It doesn’t hurt a thing. If you have a non abs truck the wires do nothing.

@@redeyecafegarage7484 It's because the differential pumpkin on the front Dana 60 is on the drivers side. So that bearing gets more load.
