Exactly... It's all about weight and feel at the most basic level. Confirmed by TXG as well.

For almost anyone of any size, height, weight or ability, I've always found that when I lend them my 'heavy' 132 gram S400 shafted wedges, they will do far better around the greens chipping and pitching the ball. The slightly lighter & softer 128 gram Tour Issued 'Spinner' is a fantastic choice for everyone and Cleveland has really hit it out of the park with their new RTX Zipcore wedges - the milled faces and sole grinds are perfect - and you can get them customed ground by them for a small upcharge - which is frankly crazy and amazing

You're on fire with these videos. I don't think I've seen anyone do a video this detailed about anything, let alone wedge shafts.. Keep up the great job.

Thanks for this video Michael. You don't see many wedge shaft videos so it's good to show the importance of getting fitted for these as well. Keep up the good work.

@@MichaelNewtonGolf Michael, I was wondering: are those Cleveland interchangeable clubs legal to play and how does weight work because of the adapters which are used? Are these comparable with "original" clubheads and shafts?

As luck would have it before I saw your review I bought a set of 3 RDX spin cores in 60-54-48 degrees with the spinner shafts. Love them. Feel lighter in the head than my sm-7's. But feel nice.....very happy thanks for the great review.

Thanks Michael....this is very helpful. I just received a Cleveland ZipCore wedge (50 degree) as an early Xmas present. I haven't hit it yet...and was wondering about the stock shaft (DG Spinner Wedge shaft). Looking forward to adding it to my bag!

Shafts now seem to be part of the bigger picture in the modern game. Not just in drivers & irons but in wedges & putters too. The whole bag is very adaptable to an individual player...... lots of choice to do your head in .....⛳️🤪😃⛳️

Modus Wedge shafts are the best shafts I’ve ever used. I use the 115’s which compliment my Modus 120 iron shafts perfectly. I suspect the Modus Wedge 125’s would have suited you more, Mike.

It seems like every Manuf'r now offers custom wedge shafts. Now I need to do some testing and find the right shaft.

I installed nippon 105 xstiff shafts in my 3 Cleveland wedges. The difference is the feel and accuracy is what I noticed right away. Designated wedge shafts are often bad.

Great vid! And very much inline with my own subjective findings. Pretty much in the same swing speed area as yourself Michael and now when on hunt for new wedges it's been quite convincing how the shaft weight has been impacting the overall feel and performance of the wedges. Personally like the look of MD5 Jaws wedges but their standard shaft is a 115 grams one, immediately dispersion is worse. Then when switching to the Mizuno T20 with S400s it so much more comfortable and results way better. The lack of custom testing available, especially in wedges, before ordering here in Sweden will likely make me put me into the T20s since final order will be very much like the tested club.

I have 3 T20s and love them - but the one I love the most is an accidental creation. I was an S18 wedge user so I was upgrading as they wore out. I used an S18 56/10 with an S300 shaft which I had bent to 57/11 and I LOVED it - greatest wedge I ever owned. I thought I would try the 56/14 T20 - but the 14 bounce was just too much given my local firmer conditions at the time and I had so grooved my S18 57/11 that I was hitting shots too low in the face - so I made the decision to have the 56/14 bent to 52/10 - but now this 52/10 had the added benefit of heel& toe relief in the grind and the head, because it was a 56, not the 52, had more mass up high in head to help promote a lower flight. I am in complete love with this wedge. I now hit 80% of all my chips & pitches with this club and practice with it all the time. The heel relief allows me to easily play my stock, slightly open face with slice-spin pitch shot - and it works far better than the stock S18 & T20 52 degree which has the full sole and a smaller face design. I've let a few people try it and everyone loves it - I even sent Mizuno a message that they should produce a 52/10 with this type of sole design as it is far more useful around the green - and I use it for all my longer bunker shots - again the heel relief being key as you can open the wedge wide up in the bunker if desired. My other T20 is the 56/10, which at first I didn't think was nearly as good as the S18 56/10 as it seems to have a bit more of a leading-edge grab to it - but I ultimately had it bent to 57/11 and it is better - but I use it as more as my draw-spin checking wedge off tighter lies for really crisp high spinning checking pitches when I'm trying to be very aggressive, one hope & stop type pitches. There is 'something' about the S18 57/11 which makes it slightly 'easier' (possibly just leading-edge wear from practice) but I'm learning to like the T20 57/11 more and more as I use it for these attacking types shots as it imparts an incredible amount of spin/check when hit well. My final T20 is the 60/10 which I've bent to 62/12 for those specialty shots around the green when needed and short high bunker shots - the wedge with 12 bonce doesn't play like it has 12 bounce but, like the 56/14, has very nice heel&toe relief so laying it open on a tight lie, or in the bunker, is perfect. I love the S400 heavy shafts and will now never play another wedge shaft ever again. I also put my favorite grips (Align Midsized +4) on all of them and the set of 3 are the best wedges I've ever owned.

@@wallstreetoneil Thanks for the detailed reply! Love to discuss clubs at this kind of level, unfortunately even at the larger retailers rarely this kind of knowledge is available! Currently I'm playing the Mizuno T-5 Wedges, 52 & 56 at the moment and they have been great! I've always been a player who likes to experiment with wedge shots and adapt technique after situation, hence being doing rather well with only 2 wedges. However after playing around with the 58/12D grind in Titleist SM8 during a Demo day this year I saw the benefit of abit more bounce and higher COG placment for half swing pitch shots. While the well excuted shots didn't differ much, the less good ones were way better with the SM8. Never liked the SM8s for full shots though, probably a question of adaption (weight, length etc.) but were hitting more shanks during that test session than I've done in total of a 5 years...
Funny that you brought up the S18 as well because yesterday I found a great deal for a S18, 60/10, lob wedge, brand new with my required specification (lovely blue as well). Just a grip switch, midsize, and I would be good to go. I'm tempted of going for a T20 50/07, 54/12, S18 59/09 (bent) set up. The lob wedge would be abit of speciality wedge used for delicate green-side shots and firm lies, shots where I now have to focus hard with the 56 in order to suceed. The S18 60 seem to have a bit of a "High-toe" light shape which would also allow for easier deep rough exceution.
Per my understanding the 54/12 would be same design as your bent 52 one, which would serve as a great 'swiss knife' club, full swings, pitches, regular bunker shots as well as standard straight face chips. Thanks again for sharing your experience!
So many things to consider, might end end up with just playing another season with the T5s... :D

If you had added the recoil est into the mix it would have been more interesting for me. I am a slow swinging newbie to golf (ish) and find a standard wedge shaft quite heavy.

I use a womens cleveland cbx 56* with a 50g shaft out the bunker so easy and in bad rough get out no problem spin i get is more than my normal wedge. i’m decent with my 56* always used heavier wedges liked the feel but now i wouldn’t change back. Give it a try see what the difference is.😊
