      Verify that you have water coming from the water supply faucets behind your washer. If the water supply is good, then a bad water temperature switch ( www.searspartsdirect.com/product/48ybkf2fki-0026-110/id-wpw10184148 ) or a wiring failure is preventing your washer from filling. Unplug the washer and check the wiring connections from the timer to the water level pressure switch. Check the wiring connections between the water level pressure switch and the temperature switch. Check the wiring connections between the temperature switch and the inlet water valves. If all of those wiring connections are okay, then you'll likely need to replace the water temperature switch. We hope this information helps. If you need further assistance, let us know.

      Water could be siphoning out of the washer through the drain hose. Check the drain hose installation according to the guidelines in the installation instructions. Make sure you don't have that drain hose stuck way down the standpipe behind the washer (or submerged in water in the drain sink if your washer uses a drain sink). Correcting a problem with the drain hose installation may correct the problem that you're describing.

    My scenario is where the rinse cycle works, but wash cycle does nothing. So per this video the problem is timer OR the water temperature switch. I am wondering, should the timer count down even though no water is being introduced? Because my timer does not budge (does not time down). Is water flow needed for timer to begin? Thanks if anyone can answer this.

    • @searspartsdirect
      @searspartsdirect  4 роки тому +1

      @@tserevenad Thanks for providing that model number. The timer won't advance in the initial fill cycle until the water level pressure switch senses that the washer is full of water. In the rinse mode, a switch allows current to flow through the timer motor so the timer does advance in the rinse mode.

    • @tserevenad
      @tserevenad 4 роки тому

      @@searspartsdirect Thanks for your reply. I asked about timing down to see if it was a clue regarding a bad timer. Today, I did a couple more tests. I confirmed 120v at the temperature switch (pink wire, pin 3) and neutral (lid switch) with no power at the cold inlet valve (in start of wash cycle). This leads me to believe the problem is the temperature switch. I tried to test continuity through the switch on various settings, but unclear on what pins this would be and even if the test is valid since it appears to have a PC board which may require other inputs for continuity to be established. So in conclusion I am trying to determine if my problem is the temperature switch or the timer. Heck the machine is only 2 years old that is what is puzzling. I think it is the switch. Again, no water at wash, but water, rinse, spin perfectly from rinse cycle onward. Thanks for any additional comment.

    I have a top loader that is giving us fits! You put it on wash and it immediately flips the knob to rinse (on its own) then it will sound like it is filling with water, but it never does, and it starts spinning. It has the option for a second rinse cycle (which we had on, but tried to run the washer with it off...same result either way). We have also tried starting it from the different settings and water temperature, that didn't make a difference either. I am going to try the hoses tonight like the video says and see if that helps. Any other idea's if that doesn't work? Thank you so much! Kim.

    What would it be if when I put it on rinse it doesn't fill and the reset button doesn't reset, unless I punch the control panel on the side that the reset is on? Which then makes it fill. No voltage meter.

    • @searspartsdirect
      @searspartsdirect  4 роки тому

      Your symptoms point to a failed control board or faulty control panel. Some washers have one control board that includes the control panel buttons instead of a separate control panel and control board. Let us know the model number of your washer if you need more help with this problem.

    My washer isn't even trying to open the valves. It is just going straight to agitating. On both, the washing and rinse cycle. What would cause that?

    • @searspartsdirect
      @searspartsdirect  5 років тому

      A faulty water level pressure switch is likely causing the fill problem that you’re describing. A failed water level pressure switch, bad water temperature switch or a wiring failure could also cause this problem. First, unplug the washer and test the water level pressure switch as shown at 3:35 in the video first. If you need instructions for opening the console, view those steps at 1:54 in the video. Replace the water level pressure switch if it’s faulty. If the water level pressure switch is okay, follow the troubleshooting steps beginning at 1:15 in the video to check all components and wiring in the fill circuit. If your washer differs from the one shown in the video, let us know the model number of your washer and we’ll provide specific troubleshooting steps to help you figure out why your washer isn’t filling.

      @@searspartsdirect Sears PartsDirect I decided last night to pull the plug off the pressure switch and I pulled the hose off from the drum.
      I used my multimeter on all 3 contacts in 3 sets of tests (tan wire/violet wire, pink wire/violet wire, & pink wire/tan wire) (the tests where done on the tabs of the switch and not the wires themselves, thus eliminating the chance of a bad reading from the contact tabs).
      I put the end of the tube in my mouth and both sucked & blew back and forth. The internal contacts did not change even though you could hear the bellow moving.
      I also determined that the hose did not have a pin hole during this same test. So I know there is not an air leak. I ordered a new switch off of eBay so I can replace it.
      Thanks for the help though. Your video is the best out there & I have watched them all!!!

      @@searspartsdirect I will keep you informed when the new switch arives and whether it fixed the problem. I believe it will, they believed back then in a great moto. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)
      Also, my washer is a Kenmore 80 series. And is WAY over a decade old. That was back when they knew how to build stuff. Not like today's electronic crap that claims it saves you money. Low water washers do not truly clean your stuff. They just make it smell nice.
      Even my dryer is a Kenmore 90 series. I got it for free because it didn't heat up. I did the work my self and all it was, was a $14 thermostat set. So I got a perfect working dryer for $14 total.

      @@ricardorobles7259 A wiring failure, bad rinse water level pressure switch or a failed timer could prevent that washer from filling in the rinse cycle even though it fills in the wash cycle. Your washer has 2 water level pressure switches. One water level pressure switch controls wash cycle fill and the other controls rinse cycle fill. Here's a link with a photograph of the water level pressure switch assembly that includes both switches: www.searspartsdirect.com/product/31is8idz57-0026-110/id-wpw10403280 . Unplug the washer and check the wire harness connections between the timer, rinse pressure switch and cold water inlet valve. To open the console, remove the screws at the back of each console endcap then release the console from the top panel and hinge it up and back over the back console panel. The rinse water level pressure switch has yellow/violet and yellow/red wires connected to it. Reconnect any loose wires between the timer, rinse water level pressure switch and cold water inlet valve. If the wiring connections are okay, unplug the wires from the rinse water level pressure switch and check for continuity between the prongs that the yellow/violet and yellow/red wires connect to on the switch. (If you don't have a multimeter to check resistance, you can get one at your local hardware store or home center for less than $20.) Here's a video that shows how to check continuity using a meter: www.searspartsdirect.com/diy/article/how-to-use-a-multimeter-to-test-electrical-parts-video . Your meter should measure near 0 ohms of resistance (continuity). If the meter measures infinite resistance (open load) then the rinse pressure switch is bad and you'll need to replace the water level pressure switch assembly (the part in the above link). If the pressure switch is okay, then you'll likely need to replace the timer because the timer isn't sending electrical current to the rinse water level pressure switch during the rinse portion of the cycle. We hope this information helps. If you need further assistance, let us know.
