- The plaintiff says she gave the defendant money for a trip for her granddaughter, and she asked about trip insurance in case her passport didn’t arrive. Sure enough, there was a snag at the passport office, but the defendant didn’t buy the insurance, so she’s suing her for a full refund. The defendant says she got an airline credit and is still chasing the hotel. She blames the plaintiff for not paying for expedited passport service.

Peoples Court should never be cancelled. The show teaches people about the law and morality in general. It is educational and entertaining.
How does it teach morality? Edit before more smartasses try to be funny my point is enforcing tenant laws and whatnot does not teach people morals. She has begrudgingly ordered people to pay back money just because of the law. That’s not moral

I think the show is ending cable wise. Cable TV is slowly dying away and everything is streaming wise. They could possibly be giving judge milian another show on a streaming network
Yung, every ruling the judge makes is based on American law, and these laws are based on Judeo-Christian morality (for example: “Thou shall not steal.”) with secular, humanist and modernist advances ( for example: “All men are created equal.”)

I'll bet you anything it was a single mom who couldn't afford her daughter's trip. Grandmother steps in to save the day but daughter can't be responsible enough to even get a passport in time for her child. Grandmother goes to court to clean up her daughter's mess and thus keeps enabling her daughter's irresponsible behaviour.

@Eric They already have gone back to their regular format with people in audience, and the litigants there in person. The episodes that are done virtually are re-runs that were filmed during the Covid quarantine.
She can do what Judge Judy did and start streaming on other platforms like AmaxonTV.
Plaintiff family blew it and the defendant has to come out of pocket in the end. This taught me something.

The airfare one has me confused because when you book a flight to go out the country mainly Mexico you have to put your passport information when purchasing the ticket.
Everyone should be booking their own flights before chipping in to go half’s on rooms or villas

I can't believe they're cancelling this show! I watch it everyday and I also love the interaction between the judges at the end. I'm livid! I hope and pray this and Judge Mathis get picked up by another network.

I really hate that the defendant had to be held responsible for extremely poor planning on the side on the plaintiff, and the child’s parents. Even once the parents had dropped the ball by waiting until the 11th hour to apply for a passport, the plaintiff as an insurance agent herself definitely should have ensured that they had trip insurance. Side note: Those pics of the girls just warmed my heart! My best friend and I have been besties since we were 8 y/o. 😊💜

I agree. Even though the award doesn't come out the defendant's pocket, I still hope she can recover from priceline to compensate her effort and time going back and forth with the agency.
I really think it should have fell on the parents to pay it back! Then to find out she offered to pick her up at the airport and they didn’t do that!! But, I am like JM when it comes to my girls they’re spoiled within reason and bc they’re good kids who worked hard! I reward and bust my butt to make a lot happen for them and have definitely made special things happen that were close to not happening bc of things going wrong. Life is short and if you can do for your kids I think it’s important.
@@aprilpinketon2567 The plaintiff said she “would have” picked up the grandchild at the airport if she had known that the defendant suggested it. But the defendant’s message only went to the plaintiff’s daughter (Lucy’s mom). The plaintiff said that this was the first she had even heard of the message.
When she ever said May 21st & the trip was in JUNE 😂 the only thing I can conclude from this is that the parents aren’t too bright or they were trying to sabotage the trip for their daughter .

She might still do this but just not tv wise but I forgot this show production wise is owned by Warner bros. And they are losing millions of dollars and are cancelling so many deals. They just cancelled the new DC universe and are in a lawsuit right now. They were suppose to release batgirl that was going to have the OG Batman actor come back etc etc but stopped production due to running out of money

I’ve had passports taken2-3 months this was also during Covid times so that makes even less sense that they would wait until last minute with all the paper and wood shortages and material getting stuck on boats at the time…
I Watch this show everyday and I’m so sad they canceled it. JM is so smart and I’m going to miss her yelling at litigants not having a receipt for cash.

Im a banker and there seems to be a lot of issues with some of these travel companies like this… Be careful folks.
I've heard nightmares about those 3rd party sites like priceline and hotels. I prefer to pay more for convivence and less hassle than fighting like this.

I was impressed how the defendant mother taught her daughter how to dress for a court hearing. She was well mannered, respectful and behaved like a little angel. Amazing mom and Amazing daughter.❤

Also the defendant offered to meet the girl at the airport and she would have enjoyed most of the trip. But the girls mother said that it was okay. They would try again next year. The plaintiff's daughter should reimburse the plaintiff since she decided to decline the alternate solution.

The plaintiffs daughter is a child. Therefore, she cannot have any contracts nor make decisions for herself it is up to her guardian. And if the guardian, her mother or grandmother turned down the offer, they are responsible for paying not the child.
I had this same situation happen.. when priceline told me I had to cancel through the hotel, I explained that because I did not reserve through the hotel that I did not feel confidante calling them and requested that someone from priceline call with me on the line.. they did and I got my money back.. but I really think plaintiff's parents did not want her to go
They are sketchy !! This case had me texting my friend that it happened to !! My friend lost $400 because for months she tried cancelling her trip that she had with me and our friends due to work commitments and another trip she was obligated wedding wise. And for months they had her left and right and I kid you not. Right before like 3 weeks they call her back and say sorry it’s too late you called for a refund. She was so upset

As soon as they told me I had to call the hotel, I was like.. hold up, can I have a supervisor please... but what I can say is, the hotel did have to end up canceling and refunding... now that I think about it, priceline probably gets paid on the back-end of the transaction.
@@dinacrawford5864 i felt bad for my friend it was just the plane ticket and it didn’t make sense for her to spend 3 days with us be on a long flight and then purchase had another ticket to head into another country. She would’ve been wasting way more money

$600, not a chance in hell would sue my daughters friends parents. It’s not worth chance of hurting there friendship. Especially in this case.
Booking third parties for any travel/accomodations/anything is ALWAYS trouble. They will always give you the run around and then blame the hotel/airlines/etc. For not being able to offer refunds, transfers, etc.

@@mokkamellb6811 this happened to a friend of mine. We were all planning a trip to Cancun and she was trying to cancel months before our trip because she was going to be in cuba and they played her so bad.

@Jennifer Bay area yea I had a client hat booked on Expedia they told her to call airlines to change I said Expedia issued it and has control call them back and be very assertive, may have gotten a new agent
Just a tip for when booking trips. Do it direct with the hotel, airline, etc. Don't use an OTA (Online Travel Agency) like Expedia, Booking, Priceline, etc. Because once you, if you have any problem at all on your trip. You will have to contact them for help. So like if you want to upgrade your room, you have to contact them first and then they will contact the hotel and depending if the hotel is able to your request may or may not get approved. I say this because when you use an OTA, you are the customer of the OTA not the hotel.
I know its confusing. But, basically when booking trips, book direct. Since when you do that the company you are buying from has more leeway when dealing with your problems. Using an OTA is having to go through a middle-man first.
And usually they'll price match you if you do it direct with them.q
I worked for Marriott in a cal center when I was younger and totally agree. The most of my problematic calls were because of Priceline and Expedia etc. most guests wanted to modify the dates or add names and as the hotel you can’t modify 3rd party reservations. The reservation would be literally grayed out and wouldn’t let you click on it to change anything. Just book direct and avoid issues with dealing with like you said the middle man.
This! I recently had a horrible experience dealing with Expedia. My issue was finally resolved after 7 months. Smh

I was able to go to Cancun using my birth certificate...I didn't have a passport. When they showed the girls' pictures and I saw they have been friends since they were tiny-tots it made me well up! I don't have a sister or a childhood best friend so when I do see it I am happy for those who do...I'm glad the girls were able to work past this

No cares but me too. My dad loves judge mathis show and we watch together I try to get him to watch people's court - he does but he doesn't like it as much as the judge Greg and judy....people's court is my favorite. Idk anyone else who watches like I do...ugh...

After watching countless group vacation fiascos, some people are brave or naive; I will never take on the responsibility to book for other people's plane tickets, hotels, or anything. Let them manage their trip. She should've told her that nothing would be refunded if they're the ones that cancel. Also, I wouldn't feel comfortable taking someone's kid to a foreign country; what if she gets sick or something happens to her.

Honestly my friend went through this experience with Priceline. They don’t offer refunds at all. I have no idea why. Because my friend was suppose to come on a girls trip with us. And months before the trip she realized she had a family reunion to attend and she wanted to attend the reunion to see family. And long story short for months she was trying to cancel and Priceline customer service is horrible and at the end near our trip they said it’s too late and ugh my friend said f you for the money she basically lost out on $300 airfare wise
Well if you buy a refundable ticket they will refund you, same with hotels. Delta also is not going to refund you if you buy a non refundable ticket just a credit and before Covid the had sky high change fees.
@@LeolaGlamour it was non refundable because planning this trip with other people outside of friend group was a hot mess. I booked mine straight from the airline website which don’t get me started was terrible.

Booking direct from a airline is best unless you know a reputable travel agency. Also most people buy non refundable tickets though refundable tickets have went down since Covid. It used to be non refundable 500 refundable 2000 both economy now you might see 500 non refundable 700 refundable.
A 7 day to Cancun for an 8th grade graduation??? We were just expected to graduate since grade school is a piece of cake. So is High School for that matter. Kids are so spoiled now.

No disrespect but why comment about the show being cancelled instead of discussing everyone’s opinion on the case. I’m sure someone has posted recent court shows that have been cancelled. It’s no fun constantly reading people’s long comments about how sad that People court got cancelled rather than a discussion about this case

They would have to have canceled the whole room/trip. Otherwise they will not refund just 1 person from a resort package, (booked via third party at least).
Yeah, this makes sense. I remember seeing a cancellation policy and I've even used it a few times. Not via Priceline but other third party sites where you have until a certain amount of time before the actual date to cancel.
Airfare is a little more tricky though. But yeah it makes sense that because they didn't cancel the room they weren't able to get them money back so it's unfortunate.
Also it's insane that Lucy's parents couldn't even bother to show up. Why is the grandmother having to be the one to take over the case? And then to wait so late is ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that she would have been picked up from the airport two days later but they still didn't send her.

Cancelled and popular shouldn't be in the same sentence in the articles about this. It makes no sense as a fan. I am sure JM will appear as a legal expert on some type of broadcast. But most of all I hope she keeps teaching. That legal mind is one of the best.

For those wondering about going to Cancun for 8th grade graduation, the girls were given the option to go on their 8th grade Washington DC trip or to go to Cancun…they picked Cancun.
We got married at an all-inclusive in Cancun and ran into similar situation on both ends! First, the passport agency told our best man that only a card was needed because it was Mexico… not true if you are flying (which they had to because it would have been a 35+ hour drive). Needless to say, they didn’t make it to our wedding. Second, they were able to get a full refund just 3 days out, BUT that is because the refund is if you cancel the entire room. These people didn’t want to cancel the room, so that policy wouldn’t apply. And the one that we stayed at was “free” for kids with a paid adult which is common. So in this case, there wouldn’t have even been any $ to refund since the price for 1 adult + 2 kids was the same as 1 adult + 1 kid. She should have specified that the refund amount was only if they decided not to go at all, not that if only one drops out. :(

When it first started and the narrator said the defendant said they should have paid the fee, I thought she was being rude. When I heard the dates, I was floored! Wth?! They definitely should have paid the fee.

I object, honor! This show is an Historical Monument. It just cannot be canceled. I think I speak for many that the cancelation of this show should be overruled. Tell them they can say and we'll forget it. But if they write, they'll regret it. We love listening to your phrases.
