That’s a great question! M The main reason why I pull and push lines is due to the design itself and what the design requires and that’s how I optimize my comfort upon applying the tattoo. The difference between them wouldn’t really reflect in the line work itself but more so the comfortability I feel upon tattooing the lines. Whichever method feels natural is the method I go with during the process.
Hey thank you for your time and support! I appreciate you. I can make a video on how I approach packing ink, bare with me as I get this done for you all.
What tattoo ink do you recommend? I'm starting out and I have tried three different types but don't know which is the best. I love the video by the way
Hmmm I can recommend a lot of good inks. I think it really all depends. So for example if you are wanting to do black and gray work, I would recommend using Intenze Formula 23, or Allegory BLAK. Intenze Formula 23 Tattoo Ink amzn.to/3wLi59H Allegory Black Ink amzn.to/3cCfAii Say if you are wanting to do vibrant colored work I can recommend the Radiant Ink Set. Radiant Tattoo Ink 19 Color Kit Set 1/2oz amzn.to/39mcSeg All of these inks I have used and tried myself and I personally love. I am sure there is soo much more to this question out there that others can recommend but for me, these are inks I can personally feel good recommending them to other people. Should you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to let me know.
@@salemtrinity444 you’re welcome madam! Should you ever have any questions don’t hesitate to let me know and I will do my best to assist you in the best possible direction🤝
thank you very much for this video :) is it true that this is the only reason why the outlines of traditional tattoos are stitched with round shaders because it dont exist such thick round liners to make this bold lines? 😅
No I can not say that I have. I can't be certain what all the skins are made of which is something I am always asking myself but should I come across something like this I will share. Do you know of any skins that are made with those ingredients?
I’m currently in my second month of my apprenticeship and have just started practicing on fake skin. Whenever I line with a round shader, I can see all the individual lines really spaced out and it’s quite shaky. Do you need to adjust your hand speed and go slower when pulling a line than you would with a liner?
I’m not a professional by ANY means, I just have my own machine and do my own tattoos buuuut this is the problem I had at first. I found that when I pull lines if I make tiny circles and I mean TINY it makes such a huge difference. I hope that made sense.
That’s a great question! So for me when I pull lines with a round shader I am focused on my voltage and hand speed matching, while I focus on the depth in which the needle is in the skin. When I align these variables it makes for a nice, saturated and smooth line. I’ll typically see a lot of streak marks on the taper outs and in’s as in these spots the depth was lifted to taper out per the design. It is a matter of balancing the variables and developing that muscle memory I feel.
@@meganjones4929 I think I can understand that what you mean. This approach has never crossed my mind simply because I see myself having so much room for error haha. In my head it’s easier pull a nice one pass line over building them up. I chose to go this route because once I’ve developed the flow and skillsets to pull lines with one pass it’ll make for a much cleaner read on the tattoo, which would also translate as quality to most people. That’s just how I see it tho, if I’m correct there are a lot of artist that build their lines and designs up. I feel this would vary from tattoo artist to tattoo artist.
Ill tell you the best answer..... DO NOT LINE WITH A RS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want fat round edge traditional lines take a 9L and literally TOUCH THE TIP with a lighter. It will relax the solder joint just enough so when it penetrates it kind of "starfishes" in the skin giving a FAT, but dense lines. Sorry man but you are obviously self taught or self taught grand apprentice. Plus the taper of the needles are different lol. Stop teaching and start learning
Thats a great question! I wouldn't recommend to re-use needles even on practice skin as I feel it's the practice behind the craft. It's a "gray" question for lack of a better term and I say that because I can understand not all of us have the ability to buy needles so the ones that we do practice with we would like to get our mileage for them. Another reason why I don't recommend to ever reuse a needle even in practice is because the needles can dull down at any point in which will reflect on your work and make you think it's your application.
i know this will be random, but is your stencil on the underside of that skin pad and it's thin enough to see through and practice without loosing the stencil, or has it just been left on for quite a while, and is super hard to get off now? Thanks in advance, your videos are super helpful to the learning process.
Not sure if you will see this on an older video but wanted to ask relevant to the videos. How often are you dipping for more ink? Each line? Couple lines? Im using a 11rs and have been having the ink drip a bit after filling so am trying to solve this. Maybe needle is hanging a bit much?
Thats a great question!! It really all depends on the cartridge at hand and the configuration I am using. Some needles I will have to dip in more over others I use. I feel there is a bit that goes into ink storage and how much ink may or does pool up under the needle. I like to hang my needle out a bit more as well so I can see my needle point easier as I only use the tip of my needle. If I had to say on average maybe every other line again that depends on the configuration. The larger the needle size the more ink we may need to dip for. The smaller the needle the less we may need to dip into the ink caps. What needle cartridges are you using on your end?
question my machine has a spot to plug in the gun to line and a spot to plug in to shade. the liner plug in broke somehow in the machine but the shader port still works. can i use the port specifically for shading with a lining needle or will that damage the skin?
is it normal to use a 7 round shader for line work on someone's back for their first tattoo? it was about 18 inches long and 8 inches wide at the widest part. almost a full spine tat. the bottom 2 thirds he went a little deep and left major scar tissue that's causing me issues a year later. he said the 7 round shader was to make thin lines go into thick lines, so was this just so he wouldn't have to switch needles or is that normal for someone's first tattoo?
Hi there so just a random question and i'm not sure if you have answered it on a previous video but, can you pack colours with a round shader or is it best to just use a magnum for colour packing? Thanks in advance! 🙂
That’s a good question! I don’t think there is rules to which needle be used for what. Tattooing is an art form at the end of the day, so who is to say what needle would work best for you. I would use a round shader to pack color into something like a small tattoo, over a round liner. This is just an example , what I am saying is if putting some color in with a round shader works for you , it works for you. Haha
That’s a great question!! We can still see the lines upon tattooing round shaders into real human skin. However as the ink settles into the skin after the session during the healing process the ink tends to bold out a bit which could possibly result in the needle configuration marks settling into one another. So ultimately I would say that that configurations do settle in a dissipate but there maybe more variables to consider.
Thank you for your support and feedback! I feel this is subjective, I feel I’m not really supposed to like the fake skins full on as I would human skin , but I feel most skins on the market would help us in 1 way or another. Wether we are developing techniques or trying new styles most fake skins on the market are able to help us get to where we are going.
@Paye ta Disquette This is a great question! Ok so let me start here. I professionally don't feel like 1 fake skin is better over the other and here's why. I have yet to see any fake skin made the same way or feel the same way. With that being said some fake skins are more tougher over others, some are very soft, some are different tones of colors, and everything in between. So what I am saying with this is that 1 fake skin may teach you how to line, another skin may teach you how to shade, another skin may teach you how to be more efficient. I would say look at the market, see what fake skins are available to you and invest into whatever you can. I don't feel there is "the best" skin but more so fake skins to practice. Of course everyone will feel differently about this.
I love tattoo and practicing but it's so many emotions omg I feel so frustrated when I pull a line and the next one comes like crap... like cmoooon 💀 I feel blue bcs everytime I practice on fake skin it cames good till I wipe and then looks shaky and patchy or really light :( Makes me wonder if It's the skin or I just suck at this u_u but when I practice on oranges it cames so nice and saturated I mean obviously oranges just absorve all the ink while silicon don't caught it but still I'm confuse, can wait to try on my leg to really know whats going on with the real shit 🪦
Thats a great question! Upon tattooing, after I have pulled the line or inputted the ink, this is only for fake skin, I use simple vaseline to remove the excess ink. I apply a small amount and wipe away. The felt of the fake skin will determine with the ink wipes off and how clean it will get. Some fake skins don't clean as well as others. I have a full video where I share with you the fake skins I use majority of the time upon tattooing, that video is right here ua-cam.com/video/5VVucMmJcig/v-deo.html Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions at all.
Does this skin come with stencils in the skin? Or did you put those in, because no matter how much you wipe they don’t fade. Teach me your way kind sir.
That is a great observation! I will teach you my ways! haha I actually get the fake skins blank and I apply the stencil myself to the skin. I will show you what fake skins I use and how I apply my stencils. Rather me try to type this out I can talk to you from my videos where I touch base and show you up close how I achieve these results. The fake skins I use are right here in this video in which I show you up close and in depth ua-cam.com/video/5VVucMmJcig/v-deo.html I apply my stencils on a specific way and I use this approach on every fake skin I use and that video is right here ua-cam.com/video/ahaMqzQc3k8/v-deo.html Here is the trick! I ALWAYS sit and set my stencils! This basically means that once I am done applying the stencils I will allow them to sit for 24 hours prior to tattooing. I also made a video and share that with you right here ua-cam.com/video/fPlYefQh1iE/v-deo.html Should you have any questions at all don't hesitate to drop a comment below and I will do my best to guide you in the best possible direction.
It’s about the angle, also it’s a more traditional look for those “fuzzy” traditional tattoo style, I personally love using a 9rl but for detail within a traditional tattoo, it ends up looking more like a 7rl and my 7 looks like a 5rl
May you elaborate for me when you stated that shaders should only be used if we don’t want lines in our tattoos and shade off of it? I’m not sure I fully understand that part. I would never personally tell another tattooist of any caliber what needles they outta be using. I’ve seen Aston Reynolds amongst a hand full of others pull some BEAUTIFUL, full, bold , crisp and clean saturated lines with a round shader. I would not want limit my application based on terminology and titles of the equipment at hand. If that was the case no one would have ever used for example a 03RL for shading amongst other applications. Wether it’s a 06-08-13-03RL I’ve seen many artist use this configuration for shading, packing black into really detailed super tight areas, textures and more. What I am saying is I really feel like it’s an art form and it is all subjective.
Just saying its not ur neddles the fake skin ur using dull the hell out of ur neddles so they start hanging up and not working like they are suppose too
I tried to do line with 5 round shader but it isn't work perfectly. The ink doesn't flow consistently thats why it result a patchy line. Or maybe it depends on quality of the needle because i used the cheap one.. can you give me advise what was the possible reason? Thank you. More power!!
Ahhhhh I have experienced this myself as well especially when I used a coil machine. For me I use needle cartridges which contributes to the consistency in my workflow. A patchy line can happen for multiple reasons. Some major reasons I feel would be not enough ink flow, the gear is not of a certain quality standard, the depth in which we went in with the needle was not correct, the hand speed may have been too fast for the voltage. What is your setup on your end? By that I mean what gear are you using? Are you using a coil or rotary machine?
@@DanielYuck I have a coil machine for lining and I use a rotary for shading. And I use disposable tubes/grips. So if I'm using a 9RL, I use a size 9 disposable tube also.
@@DanielYuck I just started tattooing few months ago. actually i just bought the a tattoo kit on ali express as advise for beginners. which include dragonhawk power supply, generic rotary pen. @@marciomonteiro9653 For US you find it in different tattoo supplies shops online (not available on Amazone). Follow their guidance and it won’t be a mess. I get finest tiny details very nice from stencil :)
Thank you!
thanks , so interesting ❤️😍👍
I noticed that you use both pulling and pushing when lining. does that make any difference?
That’s a great question! M
The main reason why I pull and push lines is due to the design itself and what the design requires and that’s how I optimize my comfort upon applying the tattoo.
The difference between them wouldn’t really reflect in the line work itself but more so the comfortability I feel upon tattooing the lines. Whichever method feels natural is the method I go with during the process.
Good friend
Thank you very much my friend!
Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you, Daniel. Great video. Think when you have time. Maybe a video on packing ink with a mag? Thanks again.
Intenze Formula 23 Tattoo Ink
amzn.to/3wLi59H
Allegory Black Ink
amzn.to/3cCfAii
Say if you are wanting to do vibrant colored work I can recommend the Radiant Ink Set.
Radiant Tattoo Ink 19 Color Kit Set 1/2oz
amzn.to/39mcSeg
All of these inks I have used and tried myself and I personally love. I am sure there is soo much more to this question out there that others can recommend but for me, these are inks I can personally feel good recommending them to other people.
Should you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to let me know.
Thank you. That helps!

thank you very much for this video :)
is it true that this is the only reason why the outlines of traditional tattoos are stitched with round shaders because it dont exist such thick round liners to make this bold lines? 😅
have you ever used artificial skin made of acetic silicone and cornstarch?
No I can not say that I have.
I can't be certain what all the skins are made of which is something I am always asking myself but should I come across something like this I will share.
Do you know of any skins that are made with those ingredients?
Sir Daniel Yuck I have a question regarding the round shader needle.
@@meganjones4929 For big lines it makes PERFECT sense
I have an important question can you reuse needles that you used on fake skin again just in the fake skin I really would like to know
Thats a great question!
You can got contrast with a round shader
question my machine has a spot to plug in the gun to line and a spot to plug in to shade. the liner plug in broke somehow in the machine but the shader port still works. can i use the port specifically for shading with a lining needle or will that damage the skin?
Just tried my first 14rs today on myself and it stings like hell. What's a good speed for the 14? Lining and shading
This video was exactly what I needed. Just started tattooing myself and have been using an 11 round shade for lining. Thanks man #danielyuck
I JUST A SIZE THAT IS THINK ENOUGH FOR A DECENT AMERICAN TRADITIONAL BOLD OUTLINE ANY RECOMMENDATION MY 7RL ISNT CUTTING IT
is it normal to use a 7 round shader for line work on someone's back for their first tattoo? it was about 18 inches long and 8 inches wide at the widest part. almost a full spine tat. the bottom 2 thirds he went a little deep and left major scar tissue that's causing me issues a year later. he said the 7 round shader was to make thin lines go into thick lines, so was this just so he wouldn't have to switch needles or is that normal for someone's first tattoo?
No matter what I do I cannot get the ink from wiping off of the practice skin,
Spray cooking oil ,spray on wipe off , or Vaseline mix all over the practice skin with a Lil muscle then wipe off, your welcome 🙏
Hi my friend what stroke is your machine running for lining ?
Hi there so just a random question and i'm not sure if you have answered it on a previous video but, can you pack colours with a round shader or is it best to just use a magnum for colour packing? Thanks in advance! 🙂
That’s a good question!
I don’t think there is rules to which needle be used for what. Tattooing is an art form at the end of the day, so who is to say what needle would work best for you.
I would use a round shader to pack color into something like a small tattoo, over a round liner. This is just an example , what I am saying is if putting some color in with a round shader works for you , it works for you. Haha
Does the lines heal properly with the Shader or can you see the streaks in them on real skin like on the fake skin
I do like the look of that round liner
Hello, why you use to make line with round shader? Sorry for noob question and ty
Nice lines 👍🏽. I prefer the way more expensive fake skins take ink.
@Paye ta Disquette keep me posted! Let me know how it goes for you.
Hey at Which Shop i can buy good needles, Vaseline and anything Else i need?
Is your stencil on the other side of your skin?
Long taper? Medium taper?
I outline with round shaders
Nice! If I may, what type of work do you do?
How can I avoid the ink pooling up and stoping me from seeing small detail stencils
Each time after soaking the needle in color, immediately wipe with a cloth.
@@Stauffenberg359wipe the needle or the tube
Do not use the same pressure on a person as you would on the fake skin. It is 100% completely different on a person versus the fake skin.
I appreciate your feedback and insight.
I agree fake skin is different from human skin.
Can u line with a 7 or 5rm?
Hey what do you apply on the stencil to wipe off the ink after?
Thats a great question!
Upon tattooing, after I have pulled the line or inputted the ink, this is only for fake skin, I use simple vaseline to remove the excess ink.
I apply a small amount and wipe away. The felt of the fake skin will determine with the ink wipes off and how clean it will get. Some fake skins don't clean as well as others.
I have a full video where I share with you the fake skins I use majority of the time upon tattooing, that video is right here ua-cam.com/video/5VVucMmJcig/v-deo.html
Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions at all.
Does this skin come with stencils in the skin? Or did you put those in, because no matter how much you wipe they don’t fade. Teach me your way kind sir.
That is a great observation!
I will teach you my ways! haha
I actually get the fake skins blank and I apply the stencil myself to the skin. I will show you what fake skins I use and how I apply my stencils. Rather me try to type this out I can talk to you from my videos where I touch base and show you up close how I achieve these results.
The fake skins I use are right here in this video in which I show you up close and in depth ua-cam.com/video/5VVucMmJcig/v-deo.html
I apply my stencils on a specific way and I use this approach on every fake skin I use and that video is right here ua-cam.com/video/ahaMqzQc3k8/v-deo.html
Here is the trick! I ALWAYS sit and set my stencils! This basically means that once I am done applying the stencils I will allow them to sit for 24 hours prior to tattooing. I also made a video and share that with you right here ua-cam.com/video/fPlYefQh1iE/v-deo.html
Should you have any questions at all don't hesitate to drop a comment below and I will do my best to guide you in the best possible direction.

So the main reason I dislike the round shader for lining is that it looks streaky. Not solid.
Man I feel the same but a lot of people today are using RS for lining, my question is why?
@@guiemink I asked the same question. I always use a 7RL or 9RL for line, and they are perfect!
Does it still look like it streaks on human skin?
@@tonyzone8999 yes it does. It’s awful
It’s about the angle, also it’s a more traditional look for those “fuzzy” traditional tattoo style, I personally love using a 9rl but for detail within a traditional tattoo, it ends up looking more like a 7rl and my 7 looks like a 5rl
When you find your bosses pigskin and pick up where he left off
u should only use round shaders if u dnt want any lines in your tattoo and ur going t shade off of it..othewrwise use a liner!
DOES THE HIGHER VOLTAGE WILL GIVE A CLEAR LINE . IF IM USING 3NEEDLE FOR LINE WILL 5 VOLTAGE IS OKEY?
When you see it close up you can instantly tell it's a shader and not a liner.. the lines are a solid black.. looks great from a distance tho..
Do you read titles? 😂😂😂
@@kalvinsantero8122 obviously.. my point is the lines don't look as good with a shader..
Anyone use 11rl ????

Thank you !
Thanks great videos you do. An artist with any drawing skill could tattoo if they wanted to. But if you aren't comfortable pulling a line don't do it.
Just saying its not ur neddles the fake skin ur using dull the hell out of ur neddles so they start hanging up and not working like they are suppose too
Good friend
I tried to do line with 5 round shader but it isn't work perfectly. The ink doesn't flow consistently thats why it result a patchy line. Or maybe it depends on quality of the needle because i used the cheap one.. can you give me advise what was the possible reason? Thank you. More power!!
Also your tubes make a difference. These tubes seem to really hold the ink nice
Use the same size tube to match the needle. It will help the ink flow
