Cool video. Thank you for doing a more thorough review than “it has this many lumens” or “yep, it’s really bright”. And you did it without resorting to infotainment “I’m gonna set this light on fire and see if it still works… this light sucks; it didn’t survive me dropping it in a volcano.”
Knocked it out of the park once again. I carry the TLR-1 and video after video, your videos cement my confidence in that choice. I do own the LAPG light and have suggested it to many people who are on a tight budget. It's a good light. Again, great video and I'm still rocking the M6.
I think it's hard to go wrong with the TLR-1HL. I'm glad to see that we have people in the industry pushing to provide similar products at a better price point (LAPG), and people trying to push the limits of candela within the form factor (Goonbeam). Thanks!
Can you confirm that the LAPG XWL will work with the molded holsters made for the TLR-1? If so, which holster are you running? I know in the video that he stated that it will work but it would have been nice to see a demonstration of holstering & drawing from one of the popular holsters available for the light.
@@d4rkn3ss47 I’ve used it in the TRex sidecar, we the people, and Knightfall Customs. As well as a Safariland 6354do. In holsters like the Werkz M6, which are a more precision fit and molded holster, it is a bit tighter. But with playing with the retention adjustment, I don’t know why it wouldn’t fit most TLR-1 HL holsters. I did a video on the LAPG light and I’m sure I showed it in at least one holster.
Streamlight has great support. Once, they sent me a replacement light when mine failed. Other times they sent me screws or tools for lights I own, at not charge. LA Police gear told me to pound sand when I asked for a replacement screw for their light even when I offered to pay for it! Also, this LA Police Gear light comes setup for Glock and fits loose on picatinny 1913 rails. Spend your money on quality. Also, keep in mind holster compatibility.
The current Short V1 is brighter than the TLR1 and it has better switches. The switches are firmed up slightly and this reduces the chances of you NDing white light.
Great video, I was just looking into getting a goonbeam. Apparently there's two versions now and they've greatly jumped up in price to around 130 bucks. The v1 short claims 600L & 40000C while the v2 claims 1200L & 30000C.
Greatly jumped in price 😂. That's hilarious. They offer better performance, for the same price. My Short V1 is an absolute monster. I have compared it to my OKW head, snd honestly it's pretty damn close. My Long V1 is brighter than my OKW hands down.

I got the Goonbeam V1 short (Max Candela) it's on steroids lool. Their other product Short V2 (More lumens) boast 1200 lumens and 30,000 candela the guy is really pushing the envelope
Surprised someone didn’t correct this stupid shit a year on. TLR1-HL is machined and assembled in the US. Just uses a Chinese LED. Also some more expensive models of Streamlight handheld are American.
Either one can go too far to the extreme. LEP lights tend to have high candela but not enough lumens and sacrifice peripheral awareness. Other lights are all flood with lots of lumens but cannot throw very far. I tend to favor high candela with sufficient lumens for my use, which includes both indoor and lots of outdoor.
The hot spot on the Goonbeam almost borders on too tight, in that in the video it seems if I pointed the beam more at your eyes and the person had a long torso and/or arms that a weapon in the hand might be cut off at the edge of the beam.
No it's not. The Short V1 is performing better for the same price, and they run sales frequently. The TLR1HL makes no sense as long as the Short V1 and V2 are available.
Wow I wish your methods would spread to those 'testing' automotive lights. CRI is very frequently ignored. It's extremely important especially in sub optimal lighting circumstances. No reason we can't have 90 CRI lights everywhere. Enough ice blue crap
I'm pretty transparent that (currently) the TLR-1HL is a tough light to beat. Apparently other companies seem to think so as well since they're copying the it!

I’ll take the tlr1 all day the spill is perfect. I don’t plan on using the pistol use all that candela. But if I do it’s to get out of a pinch
Agree that the flood on the TLR-1 is quite good. That said, I would definitely take more candela to better control threats.
