Appreciate the review. For me, personally, I can't justify the cost of the Surefire. Not to mention the documented problems they've had with their switches, requiring youtube videos on how to 'mod' the switch. I have numerous Olights, but my personal favorite pistol WML right now is still the Streamlight TLR-1 HL. Good value. I don't have an X300T to compare it to, but the PL-3 Turbo is well sized to use in a 12 o'clock position on an AR handguard. The light only measures 29mm from the top of the Picatinny rail to the highest point of the bezel, whereas the front sight base I am using is 28.5mm. This is compared to the top of the TLR-1HL, which is 31mm and pretty close to the top of the front sight post on my gun (33.5mm). The buttons are also easy to use and not especially prone to pushing the sights off target on a rifle. For anyone wondering if Olight sent Werkz a souped-up specimen of the PL-3 Turbo for testing, I subjected one that was purchased to some evaluations of its specs. My own garage-based testing apparatus for output and intensity gave results consistent with Werkz' findings: 800 lumens and almost 90,000 candela.

Correct me if I’m wrong here but I thought the pl turbo had switches where you could push in OR push straight to activate/deactivate the light. Am I maybe thinking of a different light then?
Was looking for a new tactical hand held came across the PL turbo for less then $70 on sale. Did some quick research and this video made it a no brainer to pick up the olight…. My only regret is not buying more than one at that price.
I went ahead and picked up the PL Turbo, this is what I was hoping their LEP version would be when it was released. Candela is awesome, but it doesn't do much good imo if you cant see what's 10 feet to the side of it. Anyway, bang for your buck, I think this is an amazing offering from Olight. I appreciate this well done video, and the M6 is going to make a great holster for this

Frist of all thanks for the video. This is the 2nd watch for me. Taking cost out of the equation totally - I will always spend more for the better product - buy once cry once. I have 5 AR setups and have the Olight PL Turbo mounted at 12:00 on everyone of them. I have 4 16" and an 11.5". The side paddle is a non issue of course on the rifle. I dont like pressure pads and I love the idea of keeping the rifle sleek as possible. The light is small enough that I dont see it on my 2.26" set ups with red-dots and its barely visible at 1x on my 1-8x scopes that are mounted at 1.93". On the scopes it is way below lower 1/3 so its a non issue. The listed 66.3k Candela / 800 Lumen is more than enough for a rifle......now add in that it exceeds these numbers and its a no brainer. If I had to choose between the SF and the OL for a handgun then the holster issue can become an issue I guess. With that said the OL outperformed the SF and it outperformed its own specs. How often does that happen? Also the mounts on the OL's are fantastic. Yes I can see some green tint, but with that I can positively identify a target at 150-200 yards. In any kind of self defense situation I probably shouldnt be pulling the trigger at that distance anyway. I never owned the SF but I have read a lot of complaints about the switch and it needed to be modified. I cant speak to it but not what you want to read.....for me at least. Ok now add in price. I bought 5 Olights for $330 with tax delivered. That is one SF. Again if SF was the superior product by some distance maybe you can justify it but is it superior? I have seen torture tests on the OL and what if what I saw happened to my rifle/light actually happened I would have bigger problems then my light working or not.............and the OL passed everyone of them. My opinion but this is a no brainer for me. Better performance, 1/3 to 1/5 the price and durable. Now if you want to say you wont buy an OL because its made in China - ok I would get it to some degree, but I have read that SF has components in their American made products that are made in China. That is what I have read anyway...........not totally sure.
Thank you for your excellent reviews! I'd love to see an OWB option for all these Olights. I'm running the BALDR Mini on my Canik Rival because you guys haven't provided an option for the bigger lights yet. I'm wondering if the G17 Holsters or maybe the Wather PPQ with the full size Olights would work for the Canik Rival? 🤔
I have two Olights and both are AMAZING lights. Mine don’t give that green color like the video at all. But they will completely blind anyone they are aimed at. You can see everything clear as a bell. That’s why I always find it hillarious on social media when some bash Olight over and over.
Im so happy with my pl3 using streamlight batteries. Very solid light for my purposes. Im gonna get the pl3r and the outlier owb universal holster soon. Is there a holster model that fits the 1911 railed as well as glock 17 size weapon?
First, thanks for making Olight compatible holsters. I have 7 Olights. I'm also not a fan of the side switches, especially when you have to depress both of them together for strobe mode. As a comparison, the Baldr S switches are very nice, and don't mess up your point of aim. Those lights don't have a strobe setting, so they can't be compared to Olights where you have to depress both sides switches for strobe. I'm not sure the controls are a deal breaker for me. What I'm more interested in is durability. Olight claims these lights are IPX6, which is much better than their typical IPX4 ratings. The Streamlight TLR-1 HL and the Surefire X300T, are IPX7. I think people would like to see some scientific comparison tests on this Olight Valkyrie Turbo LEP, compared to the Streamlight and Surefire, to determine if the Olight Valkyrie Turbo LEP can actually be used as a duty light. Part of the reason I own Olights, is that you get a lot for your money, and they're pretty durable. However, I only use them for home defense or everyday AIWB carry. A true duty light is very different. And even fans of Olight, should probably own at least one true pistol duty light, and one or two true duty lights for rifles.
I was ready to pull the trigger on this Olight, until you talked about the greenish hue. I have two Olight WML's (PL-Pro and the PL-2) and I don't like the yellowish tint of the PL-Pro and much prefer the whit tint of the PL-2. No go from me on this one.
I had to grab that olight for a shockwave build I worked on. For the price, I can’t justify the surefire. Some more tests and maybe I’m in for the $300 for a light. Hitting the switch on the wall lights up a room well….why pay all that money? The shockwave itself was $500….to spend $300 on just the light seems ludicrous. $86 olight…$214 worth of 12ga ammo……? Not even a question. Now I went cloud for my ar because it’s 100% waterproof and submersible to 100’ for 24hrs. That’s worth the $289 I paid and that came with torrent mount and remote buttons (also waterproof). So if the x300 was 100% waterproof (my glock has maritime spring cups!!!lol) then I’d consider paying. But for a side rail mounted light (shockwave has quad rail heat shield), on a mad max boom stick backup weapon…Olight rules. Even now, I’m running a baldr S on Glock because of the 800 lumens and blue laser.
I'd love to know how the Streamlight TLR1 HL compares to this new Olight PL Turbo. I had the Original PL Valkryie but returned it and went with the Streamlight. 🤙
Probably the best comparison is by watching my X300T video, then comparing to the data here. Or go to lowlightdefense.com/ and look at the data yourself. Yes, I don't -yet- have the PL Turbo Valkyrie data posted there, but that will come soon.
In terms of output? Yes, the olight is the best pistol light on the market. We’ll see what the torture videos say in the coming months about durability and reliability 🤷♂️. I have a feeling I may make the switch…….
I dont understand your choice here but I respect it. By your own research the olight outperformed the sure fire by a large margin. It’s very durable, reliable, and 1/3 of the cost. That’s like these guys who talk about all the issues with a factory Glock and how they made several modifications. Then turn around say that the glocks are still their choice and great guns. I think people are attached to a name and a brand. That’s okay though. Thanks for sharing and what you guys do for the industry.
I would have to go with the olight even if money wasn't a consideration 309+ for a Flashlight is hard to justify as long as it illuminates I'll let the green Hughes slide.
I posted a Baldr Pro R video about a year ago, and my video on the X300 Turbo compares it to the Streamlight TLR-1HL. Check those out, as well as lowlightdefense.com/
I have all of the weapon lights out there I’ll tell you one thing!!! This olight is bad ass!!!! I like it better than the x300 turbo however the Modlite pl350 plvh2 is my all time favorite
glad a company is actually doing their own testing, and bringing facts about products rather than just calling them bombs *cough*Trexarms*cough* might look into Olight now, for budget lights, not terrible
I'm glad the review is helpful. If Olight keeps driving forward at this rate, we will all benefit -- whether or not we ever want to run one of their lights.
Very interesting results! It reminds me of the Olight Javelot Tac/Mini with its outrageously huge intensity measurement. I'm always on the hunt for a PDW light I can mount at 12 o'clock on an AR handguard that will still let me use the iron sight. This could be a contender in that application. Way to bring some production value and comedy into the opening!
Can't believe how quickly you replied to my comment below. Can you tell me if you make a holster for a Walther PDP 4.6" barrel, red dot but without light?
Any chance you guys will add more light options for the x-macro m6 holsters? I have a pl-mini 2 on it and can't for the life of me find a good holster for this combo.
I don't see us adding any Mini 2 holsters unless Olight uses that form factor for a new light. It's a little long in the tooth. But we are -definitely- adding more light support for X-Macro! Stay tuned...
As an x300 turbo user, I do like Olight --pl prop was nice... I didn't go with the Original valkyrie turbo because of the flood but I may try this one along side the x300 turbo. Thank You
I acually use the Olight valkarie turbo as a secondary light to my modlight okw 18350 on my 16in ar. It acually outperforms the modlight past 200 yards, and is really nice with magnification at night. And is decent as a secondary active aiming solution.
One thing I would like to see is a comparison of what the potential assailant looks like in the beam pattern with the light reflected off the ceiling or floor. Almost all of these comparisons seem to be with the light pointed directly at someone. From a legal and moral perspective you want to identify that the person is actually a threat before pointing the light and thus the pistol directly at them. In my own testing this can be one of the few areas where the higher candela lights can be at a disadvantage as the beam patterns are so tight. I would be interested in how one light does against another in that comparison.
I think that is a good suggestion. As you state, umbrella or baseboard lighting is an important tool to prevent having to point your weapon directly at someone.
@@WerkzHolsters i have the outlier but for the TLR-1 and i've tried it, its too loose and i would as well as others appreciate if a holster was specifically made for the m&p just like the glocks do. the outlier fits my 92x full size with my tlr-1 nicely btw 👍
i've got a x300t and modlite okw with the larger body. the olights higher lumens + decently high candela is... so much better to me. and the fact it's cr123a only, no weird charger stuff. i gotta be honest, it's throw and spill is absolutely incredible. blows the modlite okw on my AR out of the water. it goes out as far as you'd ever WANT to shoot 5.56, so i run it off the side of my BAD workhorse patrol carbine on an mlok picatinny adapter and have had zero issues so far. at $90 versus over $300 and with a lifetime guarantee, it's a no brainer.
I am one who is on a budget, like the surefire but price point is no for me. I have the olight turbo it does I great job for me and the price point is in my budget. Looking at getting a smaller olight for my compact. This is my reason for buying the olight.
I have both lights. I really enjoy the x300 more. Olight gets too hot. Its a good light, but i wouldnt run it on my daily. Its a great first light. A light is better than no light, So if you can't get the surefire, grab the olight.
video was helpful in regards to specs, but until their track record shows that they can make a durable and reliable and issue free wml, i won't waste my money on one. I still prefer my pl350okw over the turbo and arguably the tlr1hl (1k) as the switches on that is king.
You did not mention the Olite is reported to heat up quickly , and you did not mention the Olite has a strobe mode. Strobes can practically blind an aggressor. How this and the on off switches compare must be left to another review perhaps. Thx for the info. Be Well!
Thanks for the comments! I'm not as worried about a WML heating up as I would be for handheld. We ran the light using a 3d printed adapter in the integrating sphere, and the adapter didn't deform. I don't mention strobe because I don't subscribe to the theory that it is an advantage. Thanks!
Neither Lol Either a TLR7A or the TLR1-HL. I run the Streamlight WML2 on my rifles, I think that's it? Can't remember the model numbers Haha the X300 Turbo is nice but insanely overpriced!! Then you gotta think about the fact that they decided to give us the better version of the same light for round 2 Lol not as bad as Sig but close. Unless I find it used or extremely on sale, I won't be getting the X300. I have several Surefire products and love them but you're definitely buying the name along with the product, most of the time it's fine but not always. Hopefully all that made sense Haha FYI-YES, this was helpful and always entertaining, thanks guys!! If I didn't own my own small business, I'd happily be a customer of yours Lol
Thanks for letting me know what you're running! And yes, we love both the TLR-1HL, and the TLR-7A -- that's why we have a huge number of holsters supporting them. Thanks for your feedback!
For me, the o light is the clear winner. I mean seriously, who wants to pay half the price of their gun for the light. Weapon lights in general are completely overpriced and ridiculous
Nothing personal, but reviews on items hand picked by the manufacturer's and sent to reviewers have always been suspect to me. Does the everyday guy get the same when he orders one.
I don't think Olight hand picks the samples to send to us. Everything was boxed and packaged and sealed as new. That said, I have a couple purchased samples coming, and will update if we find anything different with their new stuff.

I just got the PL-Turbo Valkyrie so I'll see if I notice the green color thing you mentioned. I didn't shop the x300 but I heard you can get at least 3 Olights for the price of 1 Surefire. But then again, there's the whole Made in the USA side of it too. I'll have to check out your holsters. (Hoping to find some OWB options...) Thanks
Does the Olight PL Turbo fit any holsters currently? Like x300 holsters or are they too different in shape
This is what I'm wanting to know... or if they are gonna make a holster around it.
Very helpful great video. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Correct me if I’m wrong here but I thought the pl turbo had switches where you could push in OR push straight to activate/deactivate the light. Am I maybe thinking of a different light then?
Interesting video. Does the Olight Baldr Pro R fits on the Staccato XC ?
What were the candela measurements for the Olight?
But what was the candela for both? The numbers weren’t shown. Unless I somehow missed it.
Great job on all your content. Will you be making the M6 outlier holster for the Pl turbo?
What was the measured Candella of the PL Turbo vs advertised? I caught 50% more but no numbers?
Was looking for a new tactical hand held came across the PL turbo for less then $70 on sale. Did some quick research and this video made it a no brainer to pick up the olight…. My only regret is not buying more than one at that price.
Glad the video was helpful!
I appreciate this well done video, and the M6 is going to make a great holster for this
It's interesting you say that. I just received mine, and I think it has plenty of spill to see you're sorroundings. 🤷♂️
@@WeNeedChange3310 I think you misread my comment, or maybe I just wasn't clear lol. I was saying the LEP Valkyrie didn't have any spill which I didn't like. I love the new Turbo and the spill it has in addition to the candela
@AlphaRomeoOneFive Gotcha, sorry bout that. I'm actually pretty happy with this light and will out it to the test.
@@WeNeedChange3310 it's all good! I'm really digging this new one. I'm actually already carrying with it. It's the best pistol light Olight has made to this date imo
Another great facts and data driven review. Thank you for the hard work!
Thanks much. Your feedback helps us keep the focus on providing these types of reviews!
Both are great, the olight is awesome for the price.
I have two Olights and both are AMAZING lights. Mine don’t give that green color like the video at all. But they will completely blind anyone they are aimed at. You can see everything clear as a bell. That’s why I always find it hillarious on social media when some bash Olight over and over.
Love the quality Anyone have any good suggestions for holster on 1911 DS prodigy 4.25 with this Same olight ? Please and thanks
Im so happy with my pl3 using streamlight batteries. Very solid light for my purposes. Im gonna get the pl3r and the outlier owb universal holster soon. Is there a holster model that fits the 1911 railed as well as glock 17 size weapon?
Basically is there a Universal owb Holster based on the pl3 pl3r fitment for 1911 and Glock 17?
Sick ass review. 10/10. Excellent. All the info and some.
Thanks much glad it was helpful!
Does this light have a pressure pad to operate on rifles ?
Surefire flashlight parts are sourced from China?
Fits safariland duty holsters
Awesome! Do you know which light it matches up to for Safariland?
I was ready to pull the trigger on this Olight, until you talked about the greenish hue. I have two Olight WML's (PL-Pro and the PL-2) and I don't like the yellowish tint of the PL-Pro and much prefer the whit tint of the PL-2. No go from me on this one.
So what were the actual candela numbers?
wait, what is the candela for both of these lights? You said the PL Turbo had 50% more candela? What?
@@WerkzHolsters Huge thanks for putting this info out there!
What issues was Glock having?
Did you also hand select an Olight out of a few examples?
I had two samples. Published numbers are out of the bronze colored one which was -slightly- better than the black. Olight only sent me two.
@@WerkzHolsters I didn't realize that this wasn't the LEP model... I think I have to get one
I would have to go with the olight even if money wasn't a consideration 309+ for a Flashlight is hard to justify as long as it illuminates I'll let the green Hughes slide.
@Shan, @Werkz, is tjere a comparison available between the Baldr Pro Series and a Surefire or Streamlight simile' ?
I posted a Baldr Pro R video about a year ago, and my video on the X300 Turbo compares it to the Streamlight TLR-1HL. Check those out, as well as lowlightdefense.com/
Sooooo will the pl turbo fit in a x300 safari land owb holster??
I don't recommend running that light in any holster designed for the X300. Any further info on that I recommend you reach out to Safariland!
I have all of the weapon lights out there I’ll tell you one thing!!! This olight is bad ass!!!! I like it better than the x300 turbo however the Modlite pl350 plvh2 is my all time favorite
Surefire is the most overrated and overpriced light on the market. Olight is just better and you don't feel like you overpaid.
glad a company is actually doing their own testing, and bringing facts about products
rather than just calling them bombs *cough*Trexarms*cough*
might look into Olight now, for budget lights, not terrible
I'm glad the review is helpful. If Olight keeps driving forward at this rate, we will all benefit -- whether or not we ever want to run one of their lights.
@@WerkzHolsters hopefully they get to the point of being duty worthy someday
Very interesting results! It reminds me of the Olight Javelot Tac/Mini with its outrageously huge intensity measurement. I'm always on the hunt for a PDW light I can mount at 12 o'clock on an AR handguard that will still let me use the iron sight. This could be a contender in that application.
Way to bring some production value and comedy into the opening!
I like the Javalot Tac so much that i bought another one for another rifle build...That 88,000 candela is crazy for the $97 that I paid for it
Excellent comments @drthunder88 and @highgear145. Olight is delivering some value with this light for sure.
Olights for me. I'm not reading or painting using this light. It's point and aim. And it's only $90. It's not going to hurt when I upgrade.
The price point is definitely a plus. Thanks for your feedback!
Can't believe how quickly you replied to my comment below. Can you tell me if you make a holster for a Walther PDP 4.6" barrel, red dot but without light?
My mistake. Disregard. It's 4.5" and I just ordered the M7 for it. ty.
Hey thank you for your order! I try to make the "holster finder" as easy on our site super easy, and it seems it did work for you. Blessings!
Neither. I'm gonna wait another 8 years for cloud deffensive to release their pistol light.
great video.
Thanks! Glad it was helpful.
As an x300 turbo user, I do like Olight --pl prop was nice... I didn't go with the Original valkyrie turbo because of the flood but I may try this one along side the x300 turbo. Thank You
I stopped buying Olight because they didnt make any high candela pistol lights now im forced to buy this one lol!!
Please let me know how you like it!
Please werkz, I love your holster but please make this light combo with the M&P 2.0 compact/full size 🙏🙏
Our Outlier fits the M&P 2.0 with this light...
@@WerkzHolsters i have the outlier but for the TLR-1 and i've tried it, its too loose and i would as well as others appreciate if a holster was specifically made for the m&p just like the glocks do. the outlier fits my 92x full size with my tlr-1 nicely btw 👍
For only $63 800 lumens and 66000 candela I think its worth buying...Im gonna order one....Olight finally step up their game
@@WhiteDragonSecurity They're having a sale in 2 days the price drops to $63 on their website
@@WhiteDragonSecurity7:53 yeah, O Light having a sale right now (16th Sept)
@@richwalter3107 It won't let you buy anything yet...There's a countdown timer on their website
Right this might be the only olight I’m willing to buy
At $89, they're a solid value. At $63, I think it's wise to at least try it and see if it suits your needs.
i've got a x300t and modlite okw with the larger body. the olights higher lumens + decently high candela is... so much better to me. and the fact it's cr123a only, no weird charger stuff. i gotta be honest, it's throw and spill is absolutely incredible. blows the modlite okw on my AR out of the water. it goes out as far as you'd ever WANT to shoot 5.56, so i run it off the side of my BAD workhorse patrol carbine on an mlok picatinny adapter and have had zero issues so far. at $90 versus over $300 and with a lifetime guarantee, it's a no brainer.
My Valkyrie turbo doesn't have that adjustable mounting it must be a newer feature
These just got released today
My Valkyrie is 2+ years old. It has the adjustable mount . I think it depends on the age of your light.
@@richwalter3107 WOW I got mine a few months ago from olight.... That is weird
Which one is more durable? Surefires are known for being able to take abuse. That’s important.
Agree that durability is critical. We don't have durability tests on these yet.
I am one who is on a budget, like the surefire but price point is no for me. I have the olight turbo it does I great job for me and the price point is in my budget.
Looking at getting a smaller olight for my compact. This is my reason for buying the olight.
Well green is a color we see well
I'll take the olight
I have both lights. I really enjoy the x300 more. Olight gets too hot. Its a good light, but i wouldnt run it on my daily. Its a great first light. A light is better than no light, So if you can't get the surefire, grab the olight.
video was helpful in regards to specs, but until their track record shows that they can make a durable and reliable and issue free wml, i won't waste my money on one.
I still prefer my pl350okw over the turbo and arguably the tlr1hl (1k) as the switches on that is king.
🔦
You did not mention the Olite is reported to heat up quickly , and you did not mention the Olite has a strobe mode. Strobes can practically blind an aggressor. How this and the on off switches compare must be left to another review perhaps. Thx for the info. Be Well!
Thanks for the comments! I'm not as worried about a WML heating up as I would be for handheld. We ran the light using a 3d printed adapter in the integrating sphere, and the adapter didn't deform. I don't mention strobe because I don't subscribe to the theory that it is an advantage. Thanks!
I prefer the SF switches also. The only other switches I like are the TLR-1 (also rocker and analog).
TBH, I like the Streamlight TLR-1 switches slightly more than the X300...
😂 that intro!!!!
LS1 6-speed swapped Volvo 240.
Different stroke I guess. The surefire switch is a non starter for me.
If you’re on a budget the answer is clear.
Olight is better. I think your decision was based on your love for the x300
The buttons make the difference. Surefire wins only because of that for pistol use. As far as a rifle mounted light, the olight DESTROYS surefire!
Would rather support surefire over a Chinese company.
Right on!
As you type this on your Chinese device 😂 🤡 and wear your Chinese attire.
