i am applying for a fashion school in New York and we have to create 3 garments for the portfolio and this video had honestly helped me get a clearer picture on things. I’ve made a pant, but everything was freestyled 😂 kinda clueless on measurements, just been eyeballing everything, but I realized I need to learn to capture the exact sizes of people in order to be great. this will definitely play a really large role in what I am trying to achieve. thank you so much.
Thanks for this! As a single Dad to a 12 year old daughter this is awesome. I can order online and feel more certain that I'm getting the right clothes.
Wow, thank you for keeping your tutorial informative, direct and short. Loved this, I have subscribed. I sew as a hobby and always looking for help. THANK YOU.. keep up the good work!!! love your smile too...
Excellent job could you please tell which side of measurement ( the bigger number or the smaller) to write to send my measurement for some body. Thsnks
This was a great video! I did have to go back and rewatch a couple times to make sure I was measuring correctly. But I loved how straightforward and easily this video explained measurements.
Thank Youu! I’m a young fashion student and I’m joking a fashion crew for a play we’re putting on at my school. This is an amazing help. I had no idea how to take measurements😭
But wait, soemthing I struggle wit the most is measuring, you know the sleeve part that's going to go around the shoulder & under our armpit, connecting to the ends of the shoulder parts? I knever know to cut it out
If I want to buy a off the rack blouse or dress, where do I get the measurement for my size. Everything always says xs, sm, m etc. I never get it right. Do I just measure across the breast to make sure it's not too tight or do I need the under bust as well?
You can lay the garment flat, then measure: blouse, across the seams from armpit to armpit, for proper bust line fit; dress, across the armpits, possibly across waist, and at widest hip. Length of garment could matter as well, taken from at the rear from neckline down. For instance I measure 40 inch around fullest bust line and like my blouses to be a fitted measure of 19.5 to 20.5 pit to pit. You could go larger for a looser appeal but that could mean the shoulder fit is too broad or that's the look you're going for. Personally, I find if I get to know a specific brand I can generally count on them to have consistency from one item to the next. Sizing is definitely not consistent from brand to brand. Measuring under the bust is for bras or possibly a very fitted bustier style of top or dress. Hope that helps you, albeit a late offering 😃
Hey sew addicts I have that website I'm trying to buy a clothes and for the measurements they show I have to start from the top of my head...I really dnt get it(its a long dress is that makes sense to you?)

Do I want to use cm or Inches when getting measurements for making clothes
Up to you! Make sure to stay consistent with the same metrics throughout.
#Fantastic! #ThankYou
When it comes to sewing . Are we suppose to cut in half or subtract add what
yes, for a fitted styling
@@sparra3819 you didn’t really answer the question
Maybe a dumb question, but what exactly does the highest point mean?
highest point of the shoulder joint? move your arm around a bit and you'll feel it
That's very nice
Thank you so much for making this. I'm still a little confused but I'll figure it out lol. Why is it so hard to find a dress as a boy hahaha
