@@Mund333M totally agreed, Toyota's a very good tuner. I love their bodykit too.
It's not just the tires difference. It's also the HP\torque difference. A different channel ( savgegeese) did a dyno and a very in depth comparison test on both cars at the same place, and the Z has only 372hp\362t and the supra has 397hp\423t + the zf transmission.

True, & BMW always underrate their HP, so I guess Supra falls under that category. The Supra is also 200 pounds lighter than the new Z, which really shows in the higher speeds (especially in the roll races). Even though I still want the Z over the Supra, I love the supra even more now that they came out with Manual.
It's also the power to weight ratio.

@@ets419 also chasis has a huge role in putting power down. A c6 corvette makes 430 hp/ 430 ft lbs. Much more hp and torque than an mk 5 Supra and its lighter but is slower in the quarter mile. Yes you could make the c6 faster but it would need much more power to do it

Not just the transmission…but the torque-to-weight ratio.
I think the biggest issue is neither, but rather the aero. look at the Z, it basically looks like a slightly lowered SUV. it has worse aero than sedans.
You can really hear the difference in the speed the transmissions shifting.
I bet you could swap tires and the Nissan would still loose. There is more to a car getting traction besides tires. Pretty awesome video but maybe try to stage more even? The Supra was always like a car length behind the Nissan at the start of the race

Having seen all this, what aftermarket/mod/tuning potential does the Z have? What can we do with the car to really make it competitive against other modded (or powerfully stocked) streetcars?
Its already doing 9.7 seconds in the 1/4 mile with stock engine and stock transmission with mods.
Gearing, 200lbs. less weight and more torque! Not so much the tires.. just my opinion. Great job 👍..

I actually had a deposit on both last month and whatever dealer got their car first I bought, I ended up with a 22 supra premium, love the Z but the power to weight of the car is amazing , both are beautiful cars

Nothing unexpected. The Supra puts out more power than is claimed on paper, plus has the ZF 8 speed which is the best conventional automatic money can buy. Also remember the Supra is lighter and has more torque. Base model Z definitely has lots of tuning potential at a fairly attractive price, but stock for stock the Supra is the better car.
Don’t forget - whatever tuning potential the Z has, multiple that 2x for the BMW.
Supra has way better tuning potential, so the Z losses in every sports related category. so sad that it had 3 years or so, they just couldn't beat their benchmark car.

Is paddle shifting really faster than letting the car transmission change its own gears? I think paddle shifting is good when you want to hold a gear.

The B58 itself can handle a lot of power and additionally the power potential for the Supra is pretty insane.
I'm an owner of a 2021 Supra, just personally its been a great car to own.
The BMW engine is a superb engine in many ways.

Say whatever people want to say but I think it was very smart of toyota to collaborate with bmw for their supra. They made one hell of a beast.

I love the video pairing up two beautiful cars with a great history against each other is always the best me just hearing the video anybody can tell that the Supra has a shorter gear ratio it was shifting a lot faster than the z was. I feel like Nissan kind of messed up and gave the new z a little bit too long of gear ratio I would probably still pick the Nissan 400z I've been a fan of the Z's since the 240 and at least it holds true to actually being a Nissan not just a Toyota badge with a beamer motor thrown in it I still love the new Supra to a point but the motor that's in it kind of makes my stomach turn like I said I have respect for a beamer inline 6 in a beamer just not in a Supra I'm pretty sure we can all agree

Imagine the upcoming Supra with S58 Engine.. Let's be Honest the B58 is just a monster of an engine combination with ZF Transmission. The Nissan will never beat it from Zero to who knows what.
So you went from a side by side race, then decided to do additional runs that made it a blowout!?
The "Supra" cutting the 400 out the gate and that price gap just makes it more insulting.
I think it comes down to gear ratio, low end torque and the 200lb weight advantage. The Z just cant quite match the supra. With better tires though and some weight shaving it could be almost neck n neck

I like Nissan but it's not easy outperforming BMW technology when it comes to performance. Hopefully Nissan decides to put more power into the nismo version so it will have better outcome since they charging extra money higher trim level packages

Wow, I anticipated a door to door race with a slight advantage to the supra. Respect to the supra for giving out 5 of 6 major ass kickings. with the 1 race being pretty close (but still a dub to the supra), which is more like what I expected. Looks like 10% more cost gets you 20-30% better performance. Pretty good ROI
It's not 10% my friend. It's more like 17% ( 60k ×10% it's 66k). Don't forget the tax. With the price difference you can change the tires, suspension, mufflers, tune it, and it will still be cheaper. I don't think that the performance gap is that big. Both are fast cars. I think the Z is more spacious and comfortable.

On the track the supra will be 2 sec faster which mean nothing in the real world everyday driving. 12k$$ difference this is huge. And like I've said take the money difference and spend it on the Z and it will make the supra look like 🤡. Look what the guy with the 340i did with his car on this channel. I don't think he spent more then 12k on it. Now he have a high 10 sec car.

Now both BMW and Supra fanboys can say they've built a great car.
At first they hated it for being a BMW, now they sell their livers for one.
Sam, when manufacturers release horsepower numbers, or claim a certain number, they're stating how much power the motor makes. Not the wheels. 400 hp to the wheels is roughly 460 hp at the flywheel. You shouldn't be putting brake hp on a stock car. It's not accurate. Keep up the great content 🍻

I respect the z and Supra very much and look at them equally. But they seem to have different driving ethos which is why I think it's odd to compare them. The Supra still retained its original recipe, rwd, inline six thats highly tunable and offers great driving dynamics. Disregard where Toyota sourced its parts for the Supra, it's still an engaging fun experience that holds true to its predecessors. Just because it's got German DNA doesn't make it a German car. Adding to the note of why I think it's odd to compare them is because they're both tuner cars, they were produced for us to take apart and do what we want with them. It shouldn't matter if one is faster than another in its stock form.
If you buy one of these and leave it stock, you're either old or a female.

nissan may have tuned their transmission for longevity over instead of the full performance capabilites. this is common in many automatic cars. you should have both vehicles performance tuned and see the result if is still same
Unfortunately, the results were completely as expected... the Supra wins. The B58 + ZF 8-speed is a monster combo.
The Z just needs to be learned. People serious about racing can manipulate it. For example people in 10 speed mustangs start the race in manual mode and once underway they switch to auto mode on the fly. That is the best way to get the fastest result from a roll in the Mustang.
I’m betting the Z can do the same thing. Get some good rubber and hopefully reviews start turning around for the Z.

That transmission on the new Z/ Q60 really holds back the engine.
The transmissions are different, new Z has a 9 SPD transmission while the Q50/60 has a 7 SPD transmission.

All the Z fans are gonna try and justify why it lost now, even though it’s still just a Q50 in a 370Z chassis. @@BrownSofaGamer I get you and I’ve been an avid Nissan fan for many years. My first Nissan was a 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R, then came to a 300zx TT, SE-R spec v, a couple of g37 coupes and sedans. 350z and a Q50. I now own a 2017 Q60RS400 which is the same motor on that new Z. I’ve owned one BMW e92 coupe m3 which I loved to death but it came along with a lot of issues and left me stranded a couple of times. As far as technology goes BMW takes the lead with superior engineering but Nissan has a more championship caliber racing heritage than BMW and even Toyota. GTR was banned from racing back then it just dominated the European league. Stock for stock the new Supra is better but when it comes to modding I’m already seeing modded Q50 and Q60 giving a modded new Supra hell.

VR30s once modded are impressive. Open deck design and stinky transmissions leave it at a pretty low ceiling but they’d be fun. B58 is already known to put down some real power without needing to crack the engine open, the transmission is a different story.
AMS ran 9 second with a stock engine, stock transmission in the Z. I wouldnt consider that a low ceiling at all. A 9 seconds, 10 second 1/4 mile in the street is a super fast car for more than 90% of other cars.
best shift point for the z os 6.5 rbm or less for the stock..
Exhaust and tune ? Do it for both supra will get around 400hp

Z is a cool car but it's on the same platform as the 370z(13 year old) and it's heavy with a crappy auto. The Supra is just better engineered all the way around(and lighter)and it makes a lot more power than the Z. It has potential though.
Idk how the wind buffeting in the Z is but that's the only thing preventing me from getting a Zupra really.
It sucks, but on amazon you can buy something for $30 (made for the Supra) that fixes that issue .
When you throw the entire car away due to buffeting (that can easily be fixed with a cheap aftermarket part) 🤣🤣.
It cost me ten dollars to fix - amazon "Hypersonic Black Car Door Edge Guard Trim Molding Crash Scratch Protector 4PCS ", then i cut off the part with the name and stuck it on. boom done.
A 10 dollar upgrade via Amazon will permanently fix the issue
