2023 Nissan Z vs Nissan 370Z NISMO // DRAG RACE & LAP TIMES
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 вер 2022
- The new Nissan Z ($61,398 in Canada as specced, $52,310 in the US) has an important challenger to overcome - the best and brightest of its previous generation: the Nissan 370Z NISMO ($48,998 in Canada in 2020, $45,790 in the US). The new Z now has two turbos and more power than the outgoing 370Z NISMO, but it weighs slightly more as a result. Thomas has hopped in the NISMO and James is piloting the new Z. Will the naturally aspirated 370Z be able to keep up with the new twin-turbo powerplant? Things don’t always go as expected in a drag race! We hope you enjoy the episode. Thanks for watching! SUBSCRIBE!
Huge thank you @tom.tserbis_ for lending us his NISMO!

This was LITERALLY a video someone asked for a few weeks ago - and at that point you had already shot this. Great job Thomas and James and squad!
I love this ch 😊
They are great
Cause it's an obvious video to make, glad they capitalized on it
Literally, actually, figuratively and positively a video...
А 😅😅
I love how Thomas always believes in his heart and his mind that he can make a slower car faster with his driving and beat any car no matter how much more horsepower and torque is in the way 😂 Love it!
Probably because he knows there's more than horsepower and torque to setting good lap times?
@@persiashahdi5215 of course. But in a straight line? All things equal? Nah

The 370z is such a good looking vehicle. That exterior design held up really well.
Well it's the Nismo that is timeless. Those Rays wheels and blacked out headlights and LED strip along with bodykit.
@Driving a Bimmer 350z Nismo def gonna be some change in the future. Esp a nicely modded low mile one
@@manveerghuman5276 yep. The NISMO upgrade done its job to make this car everlast.
I can say the same for the its cousin's the G35 and G37. People still ask to buy my '05 G35 coupe
@Driving a Bimmer I am not sure I have ever seen an unmodded one. lol. But I agree with you.
People sleep on the 3.7. This shows you how good the 370z was when it was released.
def one of their best cars, aged very well and its a robust car to own long term and wont kill your wallet
@@shad3128 I got an 09 370 6mt that I bought used in late 2017 with 70k miles. It's 115k miles now. Been an absolute peach of a car. No issues whatsoever. I've done full intake system including a ported intake plenum (all Z1), catback exhaust from AAM, still on stock headers and cats, Z1 coil packs, Z1 drilled/slotted rotors, Z1 clutch and HD slave cylinder, replaced the clutch master while we did that. Tuned with Ecutek car made 332whp at Z1 near Atlanta GA. Which is exactly what Nissan quotes at the crank. Pretty damn good for basic mods and over 100k miles! Also some got some cosmetic stuff including the Morimoto headlights, tails and side indicators. Those headlights are expensive, but they look incredible.
Might do headers but I dunno...I like how it sounds now and it's not obnoxious as it is. But I know I'm leaving some HP on the table with stock headers and cats. I've heard the Motodyne ART test pipes don't sound too obnoxious and make good power gains so I've considered those. Also considering coilovers and possibly wheels but I LOVE the forged Rays that came on it (sport model). Also considered adding Nismo bumpers but that just seems like a huge pain in the ass, with having them painted and all...
@@roundearthshill248 you wont notice the power gained from headers unless you constantly drive it at redline but the test pipes will give you some midrange and top end. Without picking up bottom end, the money for the headers install and tune wont pay off for itself IMO. Nissan designed good flowing headers on the VQ but resonated test pipes will def help you out with the catback. 330-350whp in those is about the sweet spot for bolt ons and most likely already gave you a VERY fun car! Back when i had my g37 coupe i had the ported z1 manifold, intakes, and test pipes and a catback. Car never gave me an issue and was super fun to have. Miss it some times!!
Great car but just outdated styling it had the same look as the 2010 version which is very un attractive to buyers
@@roundearthshill248 definitely grab those art pipes they’re sole good quality pieces! If it’s too loud with your set up add a vibrant resonator
The 370z still looks super good. I love the wide hips of the 350 and 370

I don’t how more to express the amazingness of this channel. Throttle House is just the best car channel to exist. These guys need to be more famous.
Even though I'm primarily a muscle car guy I've always wanted a 370z (out going gen). I totally understand all the negatives they come with (tech mainly) but still love the look and the sound of the VQ when it has a good exhaust. I do like the new one but just think it is definitely over priced especially compared to the competition it has.
same i want a 370z in 4 years if they dont go up in price I love the sound even though people say it sounds like a trumpet and they're light, fast, and cheap
Overpriced? It's primary competition is the Supra and its over 10k cheaper for the base model
@@chrissears5482 facts they aren’t overpriced big reason why 350\370’z popular is bc they cheap
@@chrissears5482 it's the same price as an SS 1LE Camaro and that completely curbstomps the Z in performance and versatility. The Supra is more expensive but also quite a bit quicker than the Z as well.
Buy a 370z nismo, it’ll be the one to hold most of its value and the shweetest one obviously,
Hopefully this will lead viewers to question the integrity and credibility of UA-cam car "reviewers" who attended the Nissan Z press event and gushed non-stop about how great the car was. Surprisingly it's the same reviewers who criticised the 370 Nismo for being "outdated" yet as we see here it can match the new version around a track.
Yes, precisely my thoughts. What a disparity. I can't wait for more Supra vs Z comparisons.
Once you're an adult, only watch reviewers to get a feel for the car's features. Beyond that, drive and judge for yourself. Many out there say nice things to get invited back. Journalistic integrity isn't real in this genre of frivolous car purchases.
They certainly know which brands are likely to give them the finger which is why nice things are said about Ferrari's all day long, while their build quality and reliability suffers. Much can be said about many luxury marques out there that are unreliable trash.
And the sad fact is, folks have stated this car looks great, which objectively it does have the right stuff. With regard to its drivetrain, and actual build you are getting exactly what you pay for with all the rough edges and little ability to push for more power.
The Supra for all the critique it got, is a much more expensive machine being sold for a much cheaper price given its joint development. Putting both on a lift really illustrates that difference. And of course throwing just a tune at the car literally catapults its power output to new levels.
Hagerty did a run with the two
ua-cam.com/video/tNZ30cLKMno/v-deo.html
Savagegeese did a nice comparison of underbody build, and ultimately a track comparison. You can definitely see how the Supra is a better car overall compared to the Z.
ua-cam.com/video/wc_iYf3h5J0/v-deo.html
I still think the Z is awesome and needs to exist rough edges or not. But it does need some tuning love to really get it to shine. Definitely better suspension and tires if someone wants to push it on track.
It can't match the new version though? Its clearly slower while being a top spec vs a non-nismo...
@@Jaredscott89 Yeah but it's damn close. The fact is the Z car is using an ancient chassis, open deck head, and a jatco 9speed. Manual won't save the Z. Manual just allows an excuse to why it utterly sucks for 50k. I actually didn't know who was driving the newer car from the interior shots.
Damn, you're telling me that the creme de la creme of stock 370s with 10+ years of support is only slightly slower than a performance Z which hasn't even released yet? Shocker
I wonder how much slower the Sport 370z would be compared to a Performance Z
Interesting video. I agree the Nismo version of the 400 should hopefully fix the track issues
It just needs better tires for the track imo. I bet if you put some Michelin pilot sport cup 2s on there it would be much better
@@chrissears5482 yea it would fix a lot of the issues with better grip
Hardly any owners will track these, let's be real. It's definitely more of a Gt than a sports car ,like they said..
People will track these by putting aftermarkets parts in them. I have a gut feeling it would be in Gridlife.
Edit for wade's comment: The Z has always been a Gran Touring(GT)/Sports car. Same as the GTR too, it's a GT/Sports car as well.

With all these reviews, whoever at Nissan ran the Z project should be questioned what happened.
why ??
Because they made a GT car instead of a sports car and that doesn't sit too well with you ??
@@ACommenterOnUA-cam Yes. Because the Z is supposed to be a sports car (in many many people's mind anyways) in their line up not a watered down GT car. That should be left to the Q60 for those who want the GT car experience. It just doesn't make sense when the sister company already has an option for that.
Beside, I had high hopes of the Z to be a good sports car when Nissan decides to finally put a mechanical diff in it which isn't necessary if the GT car route is what they are shooting for.
@@garytsuikk " Because the Z is supposed to be a sports car (in many many people's mind anyways) in their line up not a watered down GT car"
The 240z, sure. But most of the Zs line up has been arguably "gt" cars. The 280zx, 300zx first and 2nd gen, as well as the 350z- Were all more on the "gt" side of "sports cars". They were "capable", but hardly a "pure sports car", in comparison to competition at the time.
Most of the reviews have been quite positive about *driving* the new Z. Sure- its "slower" in numbers then some of the competition- (and still faster than some) But lets be real... so what? Theres a lot more to a car than specs on a piece of paper. Even if the supra is "faster", its still a quick, fun car- with a lot of practicality and style to it. Most people will never see the track with these vehicles, and most will just enjoy them as street cars.
@@SidewaysGts lol people just need to wait til that shit is tune we already know what the vr30 can do now it’s in a lighter car with a 9 speed.

Pretty much. People are forgetting that the 370z has a naturally aspirated 3.7 liter engine. The 2023 Z has a 3 liter twin turbo. Making more power is as simple as adjusting the boost up. The redsport engines have been around for a bit- And sure, again theyre not the *best* thing since sliced bread- Theyre still amazingly capable engines. Getting 4-500~ WHP out of them is readily obtainable with absolutely minor mods. The engines also have dual water-cooled intercoolers, and can be run hard all day long.
What nissan has done is brilliant, IMO. Theyve given us a Z that out of the box is quick (even if "omg its not faster than a supra!", its still quick), but functions well as a CAR (easy to drive, easy to see out of, actually usable trunk space. You ever lift the hatch on a supra? Sure theres a lot of "room" in there on *paper*, but with that tiny opening, its not practical)- but has a platform thats great to build up from. Which, lets be real again here- Is what anyone who is "serious" about performance is going to do anyways. Why bother giving it a stiff suspension from the box resulting in an uncomfortable car- when anyone who wants to race is going to replace it *anyways*?
The exhaust notes sound exactly the same. Great race video!!!
That digital dash with the large center tach does look nice tho. Yes, wait for the NISMO, apply mods to the 2023 performance version, or perhaps wait for the 2024 or 2025 model year Z which will hopefully fix many of the issues.
Nismo just looked *so* much smoother in the hotlap bonus footage. Did the performance really rattle you around that much?
Yeah looks like the overly soft suspension isn’t letting the car settle at any point on their course.
Although the brakes should feel fine, not sure if throttle houses track is just that bumpy or something is up with that tester Z.
In the drag races the car was having trouble too according to James. He was indicating that it felt a lot more squirrely, even in a straight line than he expected. Just not what I would expect from a new Z.
@@BigHeadClan the Nismo suspension on the 370 is pretty sorted I think. The base suspension leaves a bit to be desired
@@dielaughing73 Aye the stock suspension was just okay in the 370z , but it had no issues at high speed or heavy breaking, the sport package was well notably stiffer and the Nismo even still.
But we do have nearly 13 years of chassis development in from the 370z, it may be called the FM platform but it got an update in 2014 (only for the Q50/60) and again with this new generation.
So I think Nissan felt with the extra chassis stiffness they could get away with softer suspension but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I do like how the new Z kind of resembles the old 280Z (roof line, rear pillar etc...)
Its a big disapointment for me tbh. I hate old stuff, and 370z is nissan's masterpiece.
@@xborg7117 That's because you probably were not around in Nissans hay days when they were putting out cool cars like the 280z the 300 twin turbo z.. To this day a 90s 300z twin turbo with a simple chip install, and rejetted boost lines would still walk a 370z. Not out handle one but definitely out run it.
The 350z and the 370zs are good cars, especially when buying used for a beater track car but the excitement and thrill is not there like it was when the Japanese car craz was real strong in the 90s. ( Supra Turbo, 300zTT, Mitsubishi galant VR4, Mazda RX7, 3000GT VR4 TT, Honda Type Rs, Acura NSX, to name a few)
The 350s-370s are good like the old ones because there is a huge aftermarket for them. They are relatively inexpensive so like I mentioned before, they are good driving cars and perfect for a track beater because if you crash one you can just junk it and buy another.
I feel the 350s-370s will come and go like the 350s are at this point. The 370s will follow. But the 280zs and 300TT z are iconic.
IMO
This is what we've been waiting for! Thank you so much!
You made my day, just learning the new Z has brought back similar engine as the 90's 300zx twin turbo 😍😍👌🏻 happy with Nissans choice
True in the drivetrain. But the car is hideous. And they keep making them heavier.
@@derakbell8143 Of course they're making them heavier. Safety features, technology, luxuries and people seem to have this thing for getting bigger and bigger cars. They made the 370Z wider than the 350Z but slightly shorter and on equivalent trim levels, the 370 is lighter despite all the added safety features the 350 didn't have. The new Z's engine isn't anything new, it's shared with the Q60 only put in a 370Z chassis with an updated interior.
I like the new Z but I think the 370z has nicer body lines and rear end
Nissan Z will always hold a special place in my heart.

I think they should throw the vr38 on that new body to have a chance to compete with other cars or build a new inline engine
I agree maybe a nismo version could include a vr38
If you watch other videos it does compete. It only loses BECUASE launch traction sucks. Put better tires on the car it moves pretty nice.
A vr38 would be OP though, especially for the price
@@hatch450sx3 I don’t think it’s because the traction as they tested on the roll race & it’s still losing
The new Z in general is very underwhelming.
Admditetly, I was so excited about this car. Every subsequent review makes me progressively more disappointed in it, especially when you factor the cost.
Especially for the price. If the Performance trim was $40-43 it would be a very solid car. Still think I'd just save $20K and go with a GR86 or BRZ
@@bfife22 gr86 and brz are just way too slow for me.
@@bfife22 Yep, I feel that it's downright scummy to charge $10k for an LSD that should have already come with the base car along with a couple of chassis tweaks that still utterly fail to make the car trackworthy.
@@jobothehobotv Just mod it, at least its an option, you make it what you want.... its a way better car.
Super curious to see how the 9spd does with that motor. How much tuning potential and added power will it be able to withstand
I will be purchasing another Nismo very soon. I loved my 2015 base model and 2017 Nismo. I'll be grabbing a 2019 Nismo this time around and will keep her as long as I can.
I have a 2019 nismo in California. Why do you want a newer one compared to a 2017 nismo?
@@pinchevictor6945 to get the most up to date model. Not that it's a huge difference. Just would rather have the newest year. Also I've seen 2015s for the same price as 2019+.
370z is so much better then that new abomination.
Even with the new Z having no lift shift, and extra hp lol!
Love the 370z nismo, cheap in the uk aswell 👌 under appreciated car...
Can't wait for that NISMO variant!!!!🤤😅😎🤓 Great vid! ✌🏾❤✊🏾
Great comparison.
I’m not a Z guy (unless it’s a Z06), but I’d take the old one over the new one all day long.
Would you take a zr1?
100% and its not even close. New Z is garbage
@@Joe_Friday - yes, but that one is out of the budget range lol…. I also own a ZL1 1LE, but didn’t count it either
@@devnull128 I came close to trading my Type R in for a new black ZL1 1LE the first year they came out. It was strange. It sat out at my local dealership for months at msrp. I found it odd because I thought they were getting bought up before hitting the lot. I love that car. It would have been a foolish financial decision had I bought it.
I’ll hang on to my 370z for awhile longer. This new Z isn’t doing it for me.
I’m with you. I have a 2016 nismo tech. It may be a tougher decision for me once the Z nismo comes out but I’m seeing $10K to 20K over list from the few dealers that have a new Z proto. I’d never pay over list. Not liking the big square grill opening still.
me too. While I do love the back end of the 400, my 370 just looks way sexier. And I haven;t yet "modded the crap out of it"
I would never get rid of my nismo. Keep that gem! Just own two Zs if you must 😅.
This is ABSOUTELY Fairly DRAG RACE. I love this video
I love the hot lap videos! Can someone rec me any other channels with this style of leader board and lap time chasing?
As a Z fan, the new one is pretty underwhelming and doesn’t do it for me. Only the engine gets more power but loses the unique VQ character and the NA feel. If i just want power i could’ve chosen a muscle car. Owning the 370Z nismo and some supercars, its honestly one of my favorite sports cars ive driven. Yes its a bit heavy but the steering feel, engine, is top notch. Not the best shifter feel compared to others like brz and miata, but the way it drives is wonderful and feels properly tuned, especially after some mods to let the engine breath better. The 370Z is such an attractive and addictive car. Really hope they can step up the game in the Nismo 400Z cuz so far most ive heard from the 400Z is pretty disappointing.
No such thing as a 400Z. Just, Z.
@@gmurf5599 its the same thing... literally just a name.
Valid complaint really, the Z platform has pretty much always been a N/A 6cyl, and when it wasn't - it didn't sell well or receive near as much love.
The new Z is great still, but I'd take the nismo. Real old school car.
That outro before the hot lap was great. Always excellent comedy that you two provide. Seems like the 370 was a little more composed over the hot lap versus the 400. Was the truly the case?
the 370 is also lighter with less weight over the nose. The power difference in stock form isn't that vast. The difference will be when people start tuning these things. The N/A engine will have no chance to compete with a simple tuned twin turbo engine.
Great video 👌💯
Shockingly close drag race for the first couple gears
Id still pick the 370z over the new one
the 370Z still look better
lol 😂
love you guys Content, car reviews, funny & informing.
Keep up the good humor!
I'm glad I went ahead and purchased my 2017 370Z Nismo 6-speed manual in June. Only had 18,000 miles and is pristine condition.
I got my 2018 nismo last October. What a car, man. You don’t see many around and everyone Gawks at it.
@@bjornironsides6474 Same here. I'm constantly getting compliments and comments like it's rare to see a Nismo looking this good and not being mod to death.
while I like the look of the new Z, there's something about the 370 that just keeps me staring...
That black 370Z looks pretty good IMO 👍
got 2018 GT in black. Yeah, just looks the sexiest in car park
Should had brought the Q60s red sport for the other guy to drive it just for comparison. Great video either way
Amazing one.🔥
The new Z is a 370z with a new body and an existing well known decent engine. Expectations have been greatly exaggerated about its performance prior. I’m glad where back down to earth now to build on.
Bro mod’s for the new z are gonna go insane once tuners get there grubby hands on them. Lol I love the fact that it’s a 370z with a twin turbo engine. I don’t think people understand how much cheaper it’ll be to extract performance out of the Z since it’s based on a familiar and well r&d’d chassis.
@@alexturnqest6202 it’s not going to be crazy it’s going to be the same power as we have in Qs for years already. It’s a old engine; nothing new with power and it’s no where near underrated as a B58 etc so it’s well known what to expect. Doesn’t mean it stinks it’s just nothing new.
speaking of the 370Z Nismo, i always wondered how good a V6 Camaro 1LE would fair against it (both on same tires)
plus you guys have tested every 1LE except the V6
at the track? no contest. the v6 1le would wipe the floor with it.
@@Sithene the v6 Camaro does the quarter mile in 13.8 the z does it at 13.1 so I’m guessing ur not talking at the strip ?
@@NateandSelena i meant like a road course
I love this before I watched ♥️ thanks
Just glad to see someone is making cars for people who like to drive. So tired of watching the drag race where the Cameraman is the only one involved in the actual race!
