Kevin Olusola was born in Pasadena, California, to Nigerian-born Oluwole Olusola, a psychiatrist, and Grenadian-born Curline Paul, a nurse. At that time, his father had just come from medical school in Nigeria and an internship in Trinidad and Tobago to Loma Linda University, where he met his wife while she was doing her MPH. PTX singing O Come All Ye Faithful was done to honor Kevin's parents through the beat and melody of the song. If I am not mistaken, this is Kevin's arrangement.
@@melissacoviello2886 Kevin was born in California. His family moved to Kentucky when he was little so he says that he grew up in Owensboro, not that he was born there.
@@vidsorama2 but of all places in CA, Pasadena is a great place to have been born. SoCal native and that town is rich in history and arts and happiness. Love visiting there. But Owensboro, thank you for cultivating such a rich talented man!
I'm not going through all these comments but I'm going to assume that not many pentaholics had the five heartbeats movie on VHS growing up and still til this day love's the hell out of that movie. Your reference did NOT go over my head 😁😂 Thanks for another great reaction 👍🏾✌🏾
I checked the Wikipedia entry for the album "A Pentatonix Christmas". Additional personnel lists nine people individually as "choir/chorus". This may be a one-off group of people for the video instead of a church choir. All i know is i'd love to attend a church featuring this style of music. Cheers!
One of my absolute favorites. Loved your reaction. I always say this song takes you to church and makes you dance. So good. Thanks for this one and looking forward to the ride!
Wolli, friend, this is how Africa sounds, been there, heard it. Yeah; Kevin´s parents came from Nigeria, so he thought it fitting to polish an old christian song with African christian music. WOW. Be safe sir. Elmar from Germany
I love when Mitch lets the choir know there's a key change coming with that spiral "up twist" of his finger. Subtle and genius! Love PTX. First heard them when they covered "Royals" by Lourde💖
This idea came from Kevin, his father has Nigerians roots, so this is paying a tribute to that heritage. So the percussion and bass has an African sound, and also the way the sing the acquire, And turn a very slow, traditional and too formal Christmas song in to something more modern
I was totally burned out on Christmas music. Some years working in a mall department store will do that. It's so true about PTX's upgrades that since the first of their videos I watched, Little Drummer Boy, I listen to their Christmas music year round.
Some PTX trivia: Most Pentaholics know that Sony dropped them from their initial recording contract soon after winning The Sing-Off in 2011. Sony had never marketed an acapella group and didn't think their music would sell. In 2014, PTX released a Christmas album titled That's Christmas To Me. It was the fourth best selling album of 2014 in the U.S. Not the fourth best selling Christmas album, but the fourth best selling of ALL albums released that year. It was beat only by 1. Taylor Swift - 1989, 2. Various artists - Frozen soundtrack, 3. Sam Smith - In The Lonely Hour.
I think you are now officially ready for VOCTAVE (featuring Kirstin from PENTATONIX) - “Disney Love Medley”! It is beyond stunning. Voctave is an 11-member choir from Florida, I think their professionalism will impress you!
Love your reaction 👍 I would love to see you react to Popspring Special 2016 ! They're live, in Japan, recorded by MTV the sound is incredible. 3 original songs and one medley, 15 minutes of pure art and joy ! Maybe the best live they did, just wonderful. You'll see the raw talent, amazing 😍 Thanks 😘
@@WollisWorld yeah I know Thanks 😁 I saw it few hours ago, that was fun ! I left you a message on this reaction 👍 O love those originals, and especially Water. My second favorite of the Deluxe album is Ref... So nice ! Thanks 😘
By far, this is my favorite cover of this song. Love that they used a choir in this. Don't know who the choir is, but I love it anyway. You should check out their cover of The Greatest Show. I believe they use a choir in that too. Not sure. It is a lyric video. So glad you appreciate the little things they do that make their covers such an upgrade.
I completely forgot about this one!!!! I love this version of the song. They really showed up for this one! Definitely a banging song. Thanks for doing a reaction on it. You are awesome as always and I appreciate all you do for us viewers. Thank you!!!! Sending you love from Texas! Mary Did You Know is a good one to do next.
Wow! I haven't listened to this in a couple years! Glad you reacted to it... reminded me how good and DIFFERENT this is!! You have had a little exposure to Voctave from the number you reacted to featuring Kirstin. Voctave does a more traditional version of this song that is absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend you react to that! I think you'll agree with me that they are SO different, there is no 'best.' Just a tie for first!
Thank you for checking out our suggestions! To me, this is how announcing the birth of the King of all Kings, Jesus Christ should be! We celebrate every birth of our children, why not show that same sentiment in the birth of Christ?
I love their Christmas catalog! You will really enjoy God Rest ‘Ye Merry Gentlemen! I’ve checked your playlist and I don’t see Gold - Pentatonix (Kiiara Cover)……. I WOULD LOVE YOUR REACTION TO THIS ONE! Thanks! ❤️
Kevin is part nigerian i believe and this was an homage to that. This is still after all these years and wjth all their newer work, this remajns my favorite ptx song. Though tneir silent night redux in their most recent album came close
I love everything they do but this one is something special. A couple more you need to get to sooner rather than later are: “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” (Grammy #2 winner) and “Making Christmas” (another Tim Burton salute) that really shows off their acting skills. Great reactions! Keep ‘em coming!
This is one of my favorites from them. Top 10 on the list, even when it’s not Christmas time. Joyful, joyful the LIVE version, where Mitch sings the beginning is my favorite Christmas song of theirs (I think).
I love them. I just found out they were on the Masked Singer as the sushi rolls. Wednesday night they got eliminated and everyone was shocked when the unveiled themselves. Needless to say they sang unmasked and it was jaw dropping
Their version of this song makes me groove. It's one of my favorites, and I don't like holiday music as a whole. PTX, Josh Groban and TSO are pretry much the only ones I'll listen to.

Don't worry about playing Christmas music for Pentaholics. For us it is Christmas every day we hear them.
This is the Calvary Episcopal Choir from Memphis, TN 🙏
Loved the spice example! That is absolutely the perfect way to describe the PTX effect!
Kevin brought this arrangement to the band as homage to his Nigerian father and Grenadian mother.
Thanks for this!! I think you’ll enjoy Havana.
Just FYI...as a Pentaholic we cannot get enough videos. We will always ask for more!

Well, that's another song that I will never hear the same ever again. They just remade Christmas yet again. Loved that!!!!
This is one of my favourites. Love dancing around the kitchen listening to this, even when it’s not Christmas
I can just see the smiles coming out of church after singing with the congregation and choir..so joyful!
And they put soooo much feeling into every one!
