Can Climate Change be solved only with Technical Solutions?

  • Heating, cooling and water heating account for 2/3 of energy consumption. Now, I feel like I can talk abut the advantages, educate, and entertain all day long, but what actually holds “us” back from installing a heat pump and who is “us”? That’s what we’ll cover today.
I got the following comment on LinkedIn from the Chief Digitalization Officer of a major oil player, who has spent all of his 30 career years in the oil industry: "You should have found out by now that net zero may be a catchy title but it is technologically impossible at our level of development☝️”
So the smartest thing to do is probably to ignore it, because I’d consider that a lost case, or is it?
Enjoy and let me know your thoughts in the comments! 😀

Another excellent video Katha, i do not think that climate change can be solved by technical solutions alone, i think that there will need to be a fundamental change in the way that people think about the world and our place in it.

Thank you so much, Ronnie. Your compliments are always very encouraging. 🙏 I agree with your thoughts. It’ll be late in the game for that shift in thinking. I’m a bit worried, what the late action will entail. Those poor folks, who have seen it all coming 50 years ago… Also, a chance for us to do something about it. 😊

Technology will only be 20 per cent, or less of the ideal solution set. Over half would be nature based, with a quarter relying on knowledge capital, i.e. best practices implementation.
Generally speaking engineers you might meet, that is to say chemical engineers, are biased toward Kelvinist type thinking.
This is a 'hidden' problem, as all assumptions are based typically on heat.
Electricity, what is emphasized today is based on Tesla (the Tesla grid theory), Einstein (photoelectric effects), Maxwell, or Oersted.
It might be enough to consider and highlight Tesla's views, to simplify everything, and to spotlight systems theories for broad discussions.
Tesla fundamentally thinks in terms of waves or frequency.
Suffice to say, capturing energy instead of mining, is the best path forward for humanity.

@@NetZeroTech I applaud your efforts to place a spotlight on an overall blueprint.
That is perhaps the highest priority.

Thank you for applauding. I could have done better job at structuring, quantifying, and backing the thesis with data, I guess. The goal of this one was more to tell a story. Perhaps a compromise next time. Thank you!

So you, based in Colorado, advocate solar, no brainier. However this only works for you and your situation. Most people are in poor solar condition areas, so use a better proved solution. Not sure blaming them helps?

Agreed. Sincere apologies, if it looks like I'm blaming anyone. That's not the intent. This subject is really edgy and I have a tendency not to be diplomatic enough to offend no-one... Sincere apologies.
Exactly, for homeowners, it depends on the climate. Geothermal often helps for areas with less sun. If that's too expensive, looking into air-to-water systems might help.
