    Good video but it does offend my OCD.... The middle spanner on the wall is hung the other way round to the others!!! Trying watching the video again..... You'll never un-see that spanner!!

    I run a 1994 Ducati 900ss as a track bike and use these as a wet tyre.
    Simply stunning tyre.
    Not much power going through them about 75bhp, so I loose out on the straights, and then have confidence to play in the braking area and corners,
    A better tyre than I am a rider & still looking for the limit, with No Limits !

    I've had road 5's on my past 2 bikes (both Honda VFR's) since it came out and absolutely love the traction in both wet and dry. I've noticed a bit of a hum after break-in also around 30-33mph or 48-53kmh if running constant. Not sure if you've seen similar or if that's maybe my engine/gearing. I've largely laid down miles on VFR's (runs the same engine across gen's I've rode) but I can say these tires handle darn near anything other than ice, which they still almost did. Although my old fairings can argue. I will continue buying these as replacements as I put down a lot of miles and they just hold up and keep traction. Cheers!

    • @SamVBikes

      Glad to hear! Yes they are a cracking tyre! May well be one for humming at 30mph odd. I wear custom fit eat plugs so they drown out the quieter drones etc so maybe they sing a little louder at speed which is when I notice it! Glad you're of the same opinion! Cheers and safe riding!

    Thanks for the video. How heavy is your bike or do you ride with side panniers? I ride a 2010 Stelvio NTX and it gets quite heavy with the bike, me, my lady, side and top panniers, like almost 500kg I think. I will aim for the GT version as they can hold more weight. Well I am still deciding on the tyres but the Road 5 or 6 are at the top of the list. Currently I have Mitas Terra Force R on.

      @@cruisingthethaiway6881lol wtf. That's backwards as hell, youre getting double the life out of a road sport tyre than a sport touring tyre and you're using a sport tyre on a sport tourer which I assume you got for doing longer rides in comfort.
      I tried S22's on my mt09 and it's a great tyre that I recommend for sport bikes but not for its l9ng life, it's a sticky tyre but after trying the road 5 and having the read last 15,000km so far and I don't ride like a girl, I'd have to say the road 5 is overall a much better tyre with just as much grip that lasts longer.

    Do you actually accelerate your bike my gs1250 rear road 5 has 5 thou on it and may do another 1000 but sounds horrible due to the tred lifting. This has also happened on my old explorer 1200. Before you ask i am nearly always two up and most of my milage is on twisty roads around the northeast and northwest.

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  3 роки тому +2

      My weekend rides are normally always on twisty back roads, accelerating pretty hard. Commuting in the city is normally a bit of hard acceleration to get away from the lights and avoid merging cars. I reckon 70% of my riding is city/commuting though. But having said that, my bike only has 75bhp, so my hard acceleration might not be anywhere near as taxing as yours. Hope that helps

      Its really odd isn't it! What surprises me more is that people in the UK buy exactly the same tyre but get vastly different mileages and wears out of them. My riding is commuting to work (now and then), longer touring (Swe-Nor and Swe-alps) and shorter touring (couple of hours up to days). I've tried Conti Sport Attacks, OEM Bridgestone S21F/R on this particular motorcycle and they've all floated around 5-7K tops in terms of mileage. Even Dunlop Q3, Metzeler M7RR (although classified in another category) reached approximately 6K on 600 supersports. Nothing compares to the value one can get out the Road 5s. Great all weather grip, 0 warm up required, 1 less tire mount/balance money as well as time cost. I stock up on this tire whenever I can. However I do run a Power RS in the front as I personally prefer more perceived grip on the front, nothing wrong with the Road 5 fronts as I have not tried it yet.

    I bought a brand new rear Road 5 about a month ago as the original Pirelli on My Triumph Speed Twin only ran 3800 miles before metal banding exposed in the center. Two days after fitting I caught a #%@$ nail in the new tire. I used the spear type plug and it holds air and I've ridden it hard a few times since, but i have the nagging worry in my mind that it's going to kill me. I'm planning to get a new full set unless somebody tells me not to be such a knob. Am I a knob!

      AHHH Gutted for you! That's the biggest kick in the twins! I use the mushroom type plugs and ran my first set of PR5's with 2 plugs in the rear for the last 6 months of it's life. They survived with no air leak at all! As long as you're not pulling some Valentino type manoeuvres, I'd lean toward saving your cash until you need to replace both... that's if you trust your repair haha! Thanks for watching

      If there is one thing I've learnt from this video, it's that people are getting huge variances just from where they buy the tyres from etc. I assume something to do with the factory conditions. So many people are using the same tyres on similar bikes and getting 6000kms, and others are getting 25000kms! A lot of my riding is commuting In and out of the city so it's not all hard riding. Now, I have a new Pirelli Angel GT mk 1 on the rear of my 2017 Triumph Thruxton non R. I’m thinking of going Pilot Road 5 on the front for wet grip. I know you shouldn’t mix tyres but I fancy the extra grip on the front for when it’s wet. Good idea or bad idea?

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  3 роки тому +1

      Good question! I've ridden a bike before with mismatched tyres... same brand but different model. Only noticed when I got off and checked the tyres because it felt so odd! I hated the fact that the front felt like it was lacking grip compared to the rear which is why I'd assume people say don't mix tyres. The only time I would personally mix them would be if it was off road tyres, like the TKC70 and TKC70 Rocks.
      I'd worry that if the front gripped really well, you would have more confidence in the corners, but the rear wouldnt have the same level of grip and you would potentially low-side.
      Happy to be corrected though!

      Are the MT60RS' the scrambler looking tyres? I'm sure I read somewhere that they don't last very long because they are made to look good rather than last, so the tread is quite low. • @chrisbarron5861
      @chrisbarron5861 3 роки тому

      @@SamVBikes Not at all, I bought them for their excellent wet weather performance. To be fair the KTM is a single with huge torque pulses which shreds most tyres. Supermoto riders use the MT60RS as a rain tyre on tracks, they are really that good......hit a wet patch leaned over and they track just as if you were on the dry....the point is that they're soft, because soft is grippy and that's why they wore quickly. I like to use the edges a lot too because I pay for that rubber and I don't want to see it go to waste ;)
      I live in Scotland so I need to buy a tyre to suit the average conditions of cold and/or wet. I look at reviews for wet weather performance and can quickly eliminate 70% of all tyres, then I check individual reviews for what's left. When I was a despatch rider I bought tyres based on reports of long life, but then paid the price for having low grip levels on cold wet cobble stones in Edinburgh. Now it's all leisure riding I buy for performance and don't mind short life if the pleasure level is high :)

      These tyres are fantastic in the wet too and general performance. Fitted them to my girlfriends bike in place of some old Metz Tourance's she had before and she is so much more confident in the wet and on cold days. Although I know the Tourance's have a bad rep so that could have happened with any decent tyre. I think the only down side is if you are really pushing it, they can squirm a bit leant over far, but I never really get to that point as I dont track my bike (bit pointless on a Tracer haha).

    • @chrisbarron5861
      @chrisbarron5861 3 роки тому

      @@SamVBikes I don't mind squirm if it happens, much better for them to start squirming than simply letting go catastrophically in my opinion. Don't underestimate the Tracer. The -07 is an awesome machine and in one group I ride with there's a lad who goes all the way around the outside of me on corners, leant all the way over, confidently. The Tracer -09 can do it...I also ride a TDM900 and I run all the way up to the edge of the tyre, Michelin Pilot Power 2CT.
      Honestly , all of these tyres are very high end and most riders will give up their efforts long before the tyres will, particularly in the dry. I never felt confident on Metzelers, so I get what you're saying about your girlfriend feeling more confident.
      To help with confidence you can do a lot worse than going to a police 'BikeSafe' course. Getting an interpretation of what distinguishes sensible from foolish, from the police point of view, is really helpful bikesafe.co.uk/

Planning on getting a few off road days in too (like the Ady Smith and Mick Extance ones).
