@@RoofingInsights3.0 good to see that Russian Americans bastard picked a roofer To host.....i can tell with this video alone that you don't fuck around. Only hacks can't do skylights. Especially in this day and age with the tech the roofing industry has finally added.
@@RoofingInsights3.0 me? I plan on documenting the install and admitting that this is my first; to show how easy it is if you follow directions and advice from 5 star installers!
I love doing new things that come with good instructions, anytime I have the opportunity to follow instructions makes it easier the next time. Even it's bad instructions at least it's something, Velux has great instructions though. I had a glass shower door instructions set that said every wall had to be perfectly level and square and at the end said it could be up to 2" out of square I took all the drywall off to level the walls that were 1/2" out of level and found out I didn't need to but it was nicer that it was level after.
Yeah Brent, Welcome , and just like you said about no one wanting to read the instructions! When you put a Velux Skylight in you pick up a lot of labor too. Roofing, framing, insulation, drywall. It's all in a package. If you can do everything with one contractor, you win! I'm having my roof replaced and have an older Velux on my roof. I'm replacing it with a new model when the roof is done and I couldn't be happier with Velux quality. They really do last longer than the warranty. You know the old saying, "when you have lemons, make lemonade"! Good luck Brent!
@@RoofingInsights3.0 New roof is on as of 06/12/2020. R&R done in one day. Jim and his guys got there early and did a very professional job. O.C. Sedona Canyon really pops in the am sun! When I first started roofing there was 2 types of sky lights.. Ones that leak now and ones that leak later.. now there’s a 3rd type, the ones I install! Nice to see ya on the channel!
Interesting enough I was a little younger than he was when I got my start in that same market! I lived in Olive Branch MS about a mile from the TN line into Memphis. It’s where I learned the business! He seems like a good kid definitely inspirational!
Good to see you around David! I think it will be very close arm wrestling match between you and Brent. You two can start training for second place at IRE next year
Congrats on joining the team. A warm welcome from hub city (a short drive east). You’re obviously on top of your trade, and Velux solidifies a commitment to using quality products. If people can read and understand instructions, Velux skylights will not leak. If for some any they ever do leak, Velux stands behind their product, and will go any extra miles needed to ensure there won’t be another problem. Velux is a phenomenal company, with an equally phenomenal product. Do you also d.b.a. as “Solar Lights R Us?” They say 2 niches are better than one.
😍 I completely understand! I have had my fair share of struggles also.. as a 27 year old running a very large company the load is heavy to carry. Maybe some day you will come see me!! But none the less a lot of us love seeing your input, knowledge and gift of sharing other peoples story! Keep up the great work!
Skylights aren't the problem for the most part, installer negligence and conditions below the window creating condensation are the biggest issues in Edmonton Canada. VELUX is king of skylights.
Velux for the win. It's funny to me that guys don't like doing skylights. I've never experienced someone like that. It's pretty simple. Peel and stick around and up the curb. Wall flash in front step on sides back pan in back. Put on your counter flash. Put the new lid on. It take 30 minutes if that
Great info. I think I will stay with the original skylights, I am now afraid of leaks which I dont have. We are installing a new roof and I dont think I trust them with replacing skylights. Any thoughts I live in Round Rock Texas
Good stuff. I use the competition product. Suntek Skylights. Velux is a decent product however in my 36 years of residential roofing repair, I have found the velux glazing failed. It is a bastard to reglaze. I am sure that they have changed the design. Welcome aboard young man, good luck.
I realize this video is a year or so old, but I just ran across it. My husband has a construction background.. We are now building our log home (ourselves) in our retirement. We are almost ready for the final roofing material to go on. My husband said it is time that I research the types of skylights I might want him or a contractor to install. We have a full wrap-around porch which will greatly reduce the direct sun rays hitting the exterior logs and the impact of the sun coming through many of the windows. While this is a good thing, the porch will also increase the need for additional interior lighting. I'm interested in finding out more information about these current skylight options, including costs and warranty terms. Our roof underlayment has a 25 year warranty. I'm guessing the skylight warranty term won't be that long. Also, does the warranty allow for owner installs or must the skylights be installed by a contractor? Lastly, is there a Velux and/or Restoration Roofing contractor located in NE or central Louisiana? Thank you!
Why didn’t the foam wanna get on the roof?............. Because he was afraid he’d get stuck..... 😂 (sarcasm starts it’s finest) winner winner chicken dinner!
I’m the local skylight guy for the Salt Lake Valley in Ut. I’d be interested in exchanging info with you so that we may be able to do some business in the future, please DM me if I can be of service.
Aladdin Skylights In South Salt Lake is an awesome company down there as well. I've had them build me about a dozen custom skylights over the last couple years. from 2 glass triangle ones to 3, 4'x8' glass ones. Awesome group of people!
What's your preaching is pretty much pie in the sky at least in the Wisconsin Illinois area. If you ask about any standards for a roofer they will greatly raise there quote or will not be interested in the job. Wisconsin roofers aren't regulated probably most of the states this is also the case it's a roofers Market for whatever reason and I have yet to find a roofer honest enough to disclose their standards and still not rip you off. How does 900 a square sound.
