Have never sold for anyone and never had sales or office position if it will satisfy your hunger for hate. Started in trades in 2005 and opened my own business in 2011. Yes, I do know how to roof and pretty good at few other trades. But I am the best at running business now, does it bother you?
It is not a hate thing. The heading is roofing insights. So I would like to know roofing techniques. Do you have a particular roofing technique that you perfected that you could share ?
I've been in the gutter industry for 3 years, I've owned my own business for 2 years now. This subject "getting my tool bag off " and working on my business is the hardest thing!
I am at this point now. This video reiterated my thoughts. My daily reminder is to stay focused and hire people (office positions). I am a craftsman, businessman. I have heard lately it’s best to build company to run by itself. I get it.
I totally agree with this. Your video was like me being face to face with the mirror. I had a business, still do. Used car dealership... well, after watching your video, i agree that i ve had a job for 5 years working every day litterally for 12-15hrs a day and guess what Im drowning in debts. Honestly, at first, I wanted to work on the business but so many bad and crook mechanic that I started working in the business by learming how to fix a car myself. Your channel is probably the best youtube encounter i made tonight. I have been thinking about starting a business, yes a business not a job in Construction. Where to start though? I went to school for Construction. 2 degrees in Construction Mamagement from an accredited community college and University in Dallas Fort Worth Texas. Graduated in 2017, looked for a job for 2 years and couldnt find one so was still working on the cars. Finally I got something in 2019, Construction Material Testing Tech for 9months now. Its becoming redundant. I dream of a business, a real business this time; one I work on, not one I work in. Any leads from you will be appreciated.
Watch this video: I show how to start roofing business with no money. I started roofing company in 2012 and I didn’t have $2000 to myself. $5 million year operation now that runs itself. ua-cam.com/video/ok9xXStTNS8/v-deo.html I share everything in roofing-school.com if you have $199 to spare to start learning. One hundred million "likes"! This talk reminds me of the super powerful Brad Lea. He also started doing serious valuable outdoor talks like this. Dimitri and @therealbradlea for President and Vice
Roofing Insights honestly Dmitry, I don’t have a business or even work in the roofing industry. I have been fascinated about this industry for many years now ever since I watched a video about Eric Reno when I was a teenager. I currently work in banking but I plan to get an entry level job with a roof installation crew in the upcoming year and learn as much as I can. I have a similar view as you when it comes to working in a trade: You’re getting paid to learn a trade so you can POTENTIALLY start your own business. I know it can be very hard work but I am up for any challenge. I have an entrepreneurial mindset and I wouldn’t be able to die in peace if I don’t take a chance on starting my own business. Your videos fuel my passion for this industry and I haven’t even nailed a shingle yet. Thank you.
I am in this position myself. I’m currently trying to grow my business step away do sales run all the over head and do everything necessary to to make my business successful, but still struggling with having to be there those 12 hours out the day nailing on shingles with the crew and make sure the work is still rolling.
Roofing Insights I think it’s the perfect length to cover all those points. It’s so difficult to take that first step to stop micromanaging and start to delegate. Hiring someone to do something I can do is very difficult, but it’s better for business to continue grow if I have time to expand by delegating.
Hey man I just started watch your videos and my mentality is completely different now thank you for sharing your knowledge you definitely helping a lot of people so I understand what it takes to be a business owner
You make a lot of good points, and have changed my thinking on matters. I have been a "business owner" since 2007, when i partnered with my dad, but he and i have been the primary workers on every project. You are making me think about whether or not i truly want to be a business owner or just have a "job". I don't know if i want the stress of delegating so many tasks and having so many systems in place. I think i am going to try applying your suggestions to a single crew and increase the amount of time i spend on marketing and training. It is very hard for me to trust someone else to do my job, since this is how my dad trained me to be. Old habits die hard. Thank you for your videos. -A roofer in Las Cruces New Mexico.
Thanks for being honest. It is probably the hardest switch you can make. I know it was very hard for me. But you only have one body and it’s not gonna last. Set up standard, build a name for yourself and find people to follow your passion. Good luck to you sir.
What does not help with quitting this old habit is nowadays people just wanna rush and get the money. I agree with Dimitri when he said there are people who can get the job done but i also thing its like seeking a needle in a haystack. I went from knowing almost nothing about cars to becoming mobile mechanic within 4 years of owning a used car dealership. Diving in debts started with cunny mechanics running money game to make more noney. I found out a lot of people own a shop while the.employees know not much snd guess and guess and guess. I got tired to pay for bad work or no work. But i also agree that working on the business will drain you terribly...
Your channel applies to alot of small businesses, I been enjoying your channel alot, the more videos I watched the more I realised all you been through, so I appreciate your wisdom and experience in business 😎👍
Thanks for feedback. What business are you in? I agree with application, trying to cover topics that applicable to more businesses. I also run more than 1 so some stuff is truly universal. Dmitry
You’re right I sale I do the work I do all my own marketing And I have 13 guys if I get hurt those 13 lose their job I need look in to being a Business owner and not employee. You’r right
Love your videos I been watching your videos since 9,000 Subscribers. I consider by self a OG fan....lol I just start my company and whats how I been running it...thank you for conforming it....its hard but thank you
Thanks for the support!!! Text your address and t shirt size and I will send you roofing insights t shirt and a gift for long support. Good luck in your beginnings. Text address to 612-558-4881. Dmitry
Im the biggest sinner of all. Time to repent and change my ways. On every job and performing every task from the estimate to completion. Got to be a better way. Im running thin. Thanks for you videos. Rudds Coastal roofing and construction
Ronnie, I have been there, done that and have a shirt to show for it. Keep your heads up. Start delegating smallest thing and soon you will be asking your employees to make you cup of coffee. Don’t burn out. There is a better way. Let me know if I can help you in any way. Dmitry
I’ve had a roofing company for 11 years now. I only do about $300,000 a year at Beacon. I’m on every site with a tool belt on every day. I’m having a difficult time letting go of control on the job site. I want to make the next move, but I’m extremely picky on how things are done on the roof itself...
Dmitry’s flooring business made $250k per year when he was running it. Installed every floor and was on every job. He had crews begging for work and asking to trust them and just sell jobs and work in office. He took huge step of faith and let them. 6 months later he was running 6 crews, quality was top notch, owners were happy, he was getting paid about the same but employed 3x more people and served more customers. If you want to talk let’s schedule a call and see if we can help you to make a step toward it.
Dave never stop being at the job, once you sub you loose, most sub contractors are high and drunk, lots of jobs the sellers trust, trust it not a thing now a days, I'm on the job for my bizz everyday, biggest thing other then wrong installation is your workers talking too the customers, they might have experience for installing and most likely not but they will talk about product and fuck everything you said
Spot on. First two years of my painting business I went from 3 to 5 employees. Same thing, guys smoking next to the house. Forgetting yard signs. Showing up late. Going over hours on a project, dragging us down the drain. Each hour we fell behind was hitting my bank at a hundred an hour. I painted with them to get ahead of schedule. They were listening to music and laughing. My stress was payroll the next day. They all paint better than me. I write estimates, schedule, customer service, scheduling, and marketing. Great points Dimitri.
@@RoofingInsights3.0 I had serious conversations with my more serious painters and helped them with their subcontractor licenses. I hired someone to do my estimates. I'm trying to delegate and put systems into everything.
Not always the fact. Sales guys also take more risks. Most sales guys are commissions only. Most installers will not take sales job because they want guaranteed paid. Higher risk jobs pay higher
Dmitry, your story resonates with me... I now own a company that does 4.3M in volume and the previous owner always worked IN the business. HE answered calls, ran the leads, closed them out & collected. It was extremely disorganized & dysfunctional - there no was no delegation of tasks to any of the staff. I've been here for the last 6 years & even when I started here as a laborer, I noticed that there had to be a better way to run things. The entire process of working IN the business seems very REACTIVE instead of being PROACTIVE. Being "young" to the game, I have no problem delegating tasks or understanding my weaknesses and finding somebody to compliment me. It seems to be the only way to scale a business. Thank you for your content.
Taking this month to get to the bottom of my excuses. Been working on my business for a bit and now its time to work on myself. Was a wake up call when my team didn't want me on the job, didn't feel valued, didn't want to share struggles with me, thought I was hypocritical and thought that I only cared about money. So hard for me to let circumstances dictate my attitude. Thanks for the video.
Wow. Thanks for sharing Philip. I know the feeling. Many accused me and my intentions even with roofing insights for being only money driven. Definitely wakes you up.
Excellent video Dmitry. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I am working on stepping back further from the front lines to work on my business. We're training a sales rep and project manager now. Looking forward to joining your school in the very near future to learn how to set each department up properly and efficiently.
Hey Laurence! You can join school any time and there is no cancelation. The way we set it up is to make it affordable. Only $199 and if you are hungry you can learn a lot in just one month. It is also per company not per user so you can give access to those around you who can help. We have tutorials and tips on marketing, production, accounting and sales. Good luck for all good beginnings!!!
It's a tuff topic. I can agree and disagree with it equally. For me I never started a business to have a business. I started it to not make my former boss money off my back. At ten square a day I made 450 a day and make him what 550. Not only that but I have a choice I what jobs I do now. If someone calls me for any thing I can't walk I don't even knock on the door when I get there. I just drive by and call later and say I'm to busy sorry. If you start a business to not be in the "running a business" business then ya it's silly but in my case it was never to run a business it's to work less for more and do only the work I want. I'll never do a cedar conversion or a 8/12 or steeper ever again and that's why I did it. I can literally do 3 houses a month and live very well still.
You dont have a business, you have high paid job. But you are limited to your health and you still have to work. Good for you for learning trade and to be able to charge as much as you do!
Ya after material and the bin on a reroof I'm probably making 150 a square. So call it 80 really. 800 bucks per day I roof. I'll take that over hey wanna work hourly for me as an employee and make 23 an hour. Oh and your gonna have to do whatever job I send you to cause I own you. Oh winter time don't care go roof make me money. Nah man I make me money. I'm against anything else. It's not my job to make my boss who does fuck all money off my back
I may add I'm not in complete disagreement with what you are saying. But you had said you may as just work for someone else. However that's the point of what I do. It's not to run a business. Sure I have a crew and a sales guy and a secretary but I am in no way trying to build a business. I'm trying to not be under someone else. If I could be an employee and only do what I want to do and pick my own hours and make more of the money than the boss does ya I'd do it all day long. But I don't wanna walk into the shop in the morning and get a work order for a 10/12 cedar and get yelled at about not wanting to do it. Even when I sub a job when I don't have a roof of my own I can say up yours if it's a shit job. I may not run a business but it's still better than having a job as an employee by some as hole who doesn't care what he sells cause he doesn't have to do anything accept collect a cheque and I think a lot of guys feel the same way
I disagree w Dimitry on this. What he is saying makes sense if you are running a company that is selling 10 roofs per week. But if you are a smaller company and you are only selling 10 jobs per month or less then it makes perfect sense to go work on your jobs. In my market area a good roofer is going to cost you about $30 per hour. That's his pay, work comp, soc sec, and more. So if he works 40 hrs a week then he is costing you $4800 per month. But if you put on your tool belt and work then you can save that $4800. Then you can take that $4800 and spend it on ad/marketing, a secretary, or sales persons, better equipment, whatever you think will improve your company. My brother and I own our company and we both install at least 3 days per week. We do this because it saves us a lot of money. It is our goal to eventually be able to stop installing and just run the company. But right now we are willing to install because it helps us make more $. I made 70k last year. That's a lot more than most people I know are making. My best advice is Install until you can establish your company. I know that our company right now is a COMPANY that will do 500k to 1 million a year for sure. To say that we can't grow our company unless we stop working is not true at all. If your company is not growing its not because you have a tool belt on. It's because you simply don't know how to grow your company. Unfortunately there is no magic formula that works everywhere. What works in my area may not work in your area. You can take off your tool belt and make 100 phone calls a day or run all over creation trying to get more jobs. But if your a company and you are only getting 10 jobs a month or less then the best thing you can do to improve is to make the most profit as possible off of the jobs you are getting. If you make an extra $700 on a job by installing x 10 jobs per month = $7000 per month x 12 months = $96k a year that you can reinvest into growing your company or pay yourself more $. We all want to get to the place in our business that we can "sit back and count the money". But you need to be at a certain point before you put the tool belt on the shelf. If you can't make good money w a tool belt on then I doubt your $ situation will improve by taking it off. I'm not knocking Dimitry. I love the stuff he is doing. But this is my 2 cents. The best employee you will ever have is a secretary to answer the phone and send out emails. And if you are a small company saving money is critical. A secretary's pay is half that of a quality roofer. Hiring a secretary to answer the phone so you can keep installing is better than hiring a roofer so you can answer the phone. Second person I would hire is 1 salesperson to go door to door. A good salesperson will be on commission and wont be a big $ investment. But I do agree w Dimitry that you should do what your best at within your company...as long as it's making $ for the company.
Thanks for feedback. Love having this conversation. Let’s talk more. Very very small mind thinking. You save $4800 by putting your tool belt on? So you put value on you at $4800 per month. $70k per year and you are working 3 days a week installing and taking all that liability? You can make that by working for someone else and not have any liability or headaches at all. Guys like you are the reason I made this video. As an owner you should have bigger picture. Don’t think of people you don’t hire as savings. If you hire receptionist she will not “cost you” she will help you to bring 3-4 more jobs per month and will pay for herself. If you hire few more guys and spend your time on business you will easily make extra $70k per year on top of what you making now. I did $900k in sales first year in business and grew 30% average every year. And last 3 years company runs itself if I am there or not. You can have tool belt on if you like, but it’s costing you money not saving you. And what will happen when you get sick? Hurt? When you need to take care of family emergency for a week?
First let me repeat what I said in first comment. Every market area is different. Maybe in your market an employee can make 70k a year as an employee installer. But in my market area that is not a reality. I spent years working for other people as an installer and the most I ever got paid was $23 HR. And the most I ever made in 1 year was 52k. And that was working 50 to 60 hrs a week most weeks. Your market may be higher because the cost of living is much higher there. You said in your area there are lots of hail storms and that creates a lot more opportunities to make premium money. We don't have seasonal hail storms in my area that create a big opportunity to cash in every year. Second your comment about hiring a secretary will get you an extra 3 or 4 jobs a month is not true in all cases. We hired a secretary and it didn't make more people call us wanting a new roof. There only 2 things that are CERTAIN when you hire a secretary. 1. You will have to pay them. Which coat you $ 2. You will have more free time to work on other elements of your business. THOSE ARE THE ONLY THINGS THAT ARE A GUARANTEE BY HIRING A SECRETARY. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO GUARANTEE IT WILL GET YOU MORE JOBS. Having said that I agree that a secretary is a great investment. And it is an asset. But it is also a business expense regardless of mindset PR point of view. And in my opinion going from 52k a yr to 70k a year while cutting my time on a roof in half is well worth it. And our business is growing and I fully expect in the next year or two to excede 100k a year and reduce my labor as well. I appreciate what you are doing, but not all of us are trying to make a million bucks a year Dimitry. If I can get to the point where I am making 100k without putting on my tool belt I will be completely satisfied. And I think a lpt of others guys watching your channel would be too.
I will show you how to make $100k next year and how to make $500k per year if you are willing to learn. You don’t need to make more than $150k but you can earn it and reinvest.
This is 100% my problem at the moment. I have it in my mind I have to oversee everything and have a hard time delegating or hiring quality guys. But I really like the content and doing what I’m doing now is not sustainable
If your team has your standards you will not have many complaints. Still at 4.8 star rating. Sure, few jobs will go wrong but we will fix them and learn from them.
Question of the day is: would you rather have 4.5 star company with $50 million a year operation or 4.9 star with $1 million per year. Even if you do it all it’s not gonna be perfect. Just honestly ask yourself if you would give up up half a star to own 100x bigger company. Think about how many people you can employ and what it would do for your family
You’re right for me is finding or how to find people that have the same pride at what they do,and people that will show up and stay after 5 years I realize I can’t it all
I know the feeling. In reality we rarely will find people with passion equal to our own for our business. All we can do is to find good talent, pay them well and treat them right.
Great video and great message. I think it’s very important to be an expert at working in the business before you start to delegate. It takes a few years to master a trade, you have to make mistakes to prevent mistakes.
This is the number one most difficult step for any owner to take. Aside from our control issues and trust issues, this becomes a very nerve wracking decision to make. Its the mindset most of us have after becoming an owner. (its my company i have to do it) Its the oil change argument, yes i as an adult business owner can change my own oil, however its more lucrative for me to pay someone 30/hour for the two hours while i work on my business and make a few thousand doing that, it essentially becomes a trade off, save 60 bucks to not make 3k.
Thanks exactly what I talk and share about. We want to do it all because we can. Reality is we cant. Changing your own oil is stupid. Kudos to you for knowing how to, everyone should know how to but it doesnt make you smart later in life
Great content. I want to talk a little about my story. I am a roofer. I have been a roofer for the last 10 years. I started my business by doing a few side jobs a year on the weekends when I was off my regular job. It was great I would hustle my ass off to get a roof done in a day or two with 1 or 2 helpers and get an extra $1000 in my pocket. I used free kijiji ads and word of mouth from friends and family. 2 years later I have a falling out with my employer and quit my job hoping to run my business full time. It was hard. I built my website myself. That first year I did around $160,000 in gross sales. It cost me $167,000 to make that gross income. I quickly realized I need to change my pricing because I can't do a lot of the work myself, I was one of those guys that was the "fastest" but I was pulled away from the jobsite constantly to meet customers or do some of the office stuff. I start hiring installers and friends and anyone who could show up to be a body, now work is still taking longer to get done because I have guys with little experience but its costing a ton in labour. We have a few accidents on the jobs (one guy fell off a roof, one guy crashed the truck into a parked guy, one guy dropped a flashing off the roof and destroyed the neighbours a.c., etc). We sold $550,300 and it cost $550,000. Still not good. Now we have way less install staff, still completing jobs in the same amount of time. Standardized pricing schedule. A great CRM to keep track of everything. And $ in the bank with the bills paid on time. I don't know where exactly we are at this year so far, waiting for my bookkeeper to finish the books from last month. I feel really good about it and a big part of the success comes from roofing insights. Thank you Dmitry and everyone else. Still working on the process and trying to hire a receptionist as well as an estimator/salesperson.
I don’t struggle with this but I believe my boss does. I’m going to show him this video because he feels the need to be in the field and watching sites. I don’t believe he trust everyone in the company as he has to be overseeing everything. Especially when you talked about if the boss got hurt, he fell off a room two weeks ago. This is an awesome video!
The owner of a new business is working from the time they open their eyes in morning until they close them at night and 1 more thing for the first few years as after starting a new business you'll not dream of anything other than that business if you dream at all and they are not pleasant dreams and the stress that causes is extremely dangerous on ones health
I work for a company in federal North Carolina and I wish that my business owner with pay attention to these videos as I send them to him I am like the company owner as the director and the company owners rely on me when it should be the Other way around because I have had successful business experience in the past I wish that my business owner would adopt to these behaviors it will revolutionize what we do currently
Wow you are the best you know what service is all about. I would didn't believe that I was ever going to get a response from you I have made many comments on UA-cam you are the 1st and this quickly.
Losing dollars to save pennies. Put systems in place and monitor results. There is a big difference between the self employed and an entrepreneur. Our philosophy is to replace yourself as fast as possible. The goal is to build a business that operates without you, then you are free to focus on growth.
Well said. Only few can archive that. You have to humble yourself, learn to delegate and learn that you are not the only one who can do the work and good at it. That’s what roofing-school.com is all about. We help roofers become successful business owners. It’s a big hornet but rewarding job for us.
Im hands on some days and some days im running around seting jobs up to keep crews going, so i guess im in the transition stage a little of both..... 24/7 job
@@RoofingInsights3.0 right now my best role is selling the jobs and installing but i finally have a good crew to allow me to step back and get better on the other aspects like geting my books right and training my guys to do the work more effectively
I’ve tried hiring help and not working and I make more money working with my guys than I do sitting behind a desk or out bidding jobs I would love to be able to work a 9-5 and go fishing or hunting every evening but finding good help is hard and people just don’t wanna work hard these days
They never want to work hard. If you find people who work as hard as you do they should be working for them. Build a process when average people can archive extraordinary results. Moving slow is moving fast.
Roofing Insights any suggestions on a process that has worked for you because I have super high turnover rates here locally and as soon as you say roofing or anything laborious they either run or they wanna make as much as I do starting out lol...
I took the leap last year to go all in as a sales rep for a roofing company. My first month I sold over $100k that month full time. A month or two later I became a sales manager. Responsible for hiring and training new reps. After 6 months in the business I got out and got my old job back as a cable guy. Reason being corona virus hit, and I was going through a divorce. Since then my wife and I got back together. And the pandemic is starting to ease up. I'd like to get back into the biz. I made good money and was good at it. However this time around I'd like to start my own business. The only apprehension I have is I signed a non compete for 1 yr... My question is how have you handled those ? Are they legit and enforceable by law ....
I am stuck working IN the business. Try to find quality workers and keep losing them. I can't afford to "GOOD" ONES as I've only been in business since last May. So I'm struggling to keep and hold help even at $15/hr to start. 😭...... So I get stuck on the roof as well as trying to keep it moving forward. My Organization is poor and only gets worse due to me needing to be on the roof. Help me man!
I have other question , When I get my first company, is it better for me to work in bussines than work on bussines? How can i get good workers? Is it good to create a webside,or some marketing advertising on facebook? Is it good to create a office service for my company ?
Depends on many factors. In the beginning you will have to wear many hats, but if wear many hats after 3 years in business its probably because you cant delegate.
I started with Zero. Lived in my in laws basement while studying for GC license. If you have $10,000 it’s $10k more than I had. You need drive and hustle and staying focused on building brand killing all distractions. It’s not what you need, it’s what you don’t need need: cancel Netflix and all other crap and stay focus for a year or two on building a brand.
It's kinda my point though. To my crew they work for my business. To my secretary/books person she does accounting and payroll for my business. My saleman sells roofs for my business not for someone else. To the government I owe quarterly taxes for my employees and my business. I have a business license. I have insurance.i pay wcb. I do more my own work by a huge margin rather than sub. I have warranty contracts with clients. I'm not sure how none of this equates to having a business because I still don't mind to go work when I can. Like I said before I'm not offended it's not about having a business for me anyways its about not having someone be above me and I get to pick and choose the work I want. I don't do anything I can't walk on easily. I'm just saying by definition, not your interpretation but by the actual definition, I most certainly have a business
I don’t drink hard liquor. Actually didn’t drink anything for years. Started having some beers to help with stress after running roofing business for a year. Especially when people started stealing from me. It was hard not to be stressed
Comment below if you struggle to delegate, to hire or to step back to work on your business and always running in it Installing, micromanaging etc....
Do you even know how to roof ?
Or are you just the used car salesman dude that is good at ripping people off?
Have never sold for anyone and never had sales or office position if it will satisfy your hunger for hate. Started in trades in 2005 and opened my own business in 2011. Yes, I do know how to roof and pretty good at few other trades. But I am the best at running business now, does it bother you?

So true, been following you and watching your videos for the last two weeks
People who cannot understand this concept can never be successful business owners, you nailed it!
love it
You are 100 percent correct!
You’re the best

Glad you enjoyed it!

Roofing Insights thank you for your replies. May I ask you about hiring your production manager? I believe this is my first position to fill.
You are awesome!! Great video. This really hit me hard. Been an owner for over 20 years. Time to work on my business!! Would love to get some advice
Great content
Thank you
People do what they love, do not encourage people to use people
Thanks Dmitry. This is spot on.
Thanks for feedback. Good luck out there

You are welcome Ricardo. Where are you in your business journey now?
The struggle is real, let me know if I can help.
Roofing Insights. Yes definitely! Thanks for replying.
This is my new favorite video now. Eye opening for sure ! Thanks for all that you do !
Thanks Jose, didn’t expect this video to become favorite for anyone, and wish I could make it shorter, Dmitry.
Roofing Insights I think it’s the perfect length to cover all those points. It’s so difficult to take that first step to stop micromanaging and start to delegate. Hiring someone to do something I can do is very difficult, but it’s better for business to continue grow if I have time to expand by delegating.

Dave I hear ya. I do think he’s right but I’m just like you I knows it’s done right if I’m there and my customers really appreciate it. I
Dave never stop being at the job, once you sub you loose, most sub contractors are high and drunk, lots of jobs the sellers trust, trust it not a thing now a days, I'm on the job for my bizz everyday, biggest thing other then wrong installation is your workers talking too the customers, they might have experience for installing and most likely not but they will talk about product and fuck everything you said
Look at it this way. WORST case scenario you have a $300,000 gig to go back to.
Thanks for your honesty. That’s the hardest in business: to humble yourself and admit others can do it to and just become good leader for them

Demitry why does the sales guy get more money than the laborer
Not always the fact. Sales guys also take more risks. Most sales guys are commissions only. Most installers will not take sales job because they want guaranteed paid. Higher risk jobs pay higher
No, mistake is working on a business. Not in it,. Otherwise you are a cooperation business.
Thanks Mitchel for awesome story and feedback. Glad you figured it out.

@@RoofingInsights3.0 I am not sure how to properly word it, I will get back to you
When is it appropriate for the business owner to step in and work inside the company, instead of on it?
Roofing business is a commodity. Success depends on marketing and setting up systems.
True to that. Building a brand will help you with commodity part. Nike is also in commodity business.
Which coat you $
Let me know if I can help

@@RoofingInsights3.0 exactly
Question of the day is: would you rather have 4.5 star company with $50 million a year operation or 4.9 star with $1 million per year. Even if you do it all it’s not gonna be perfect. Just honestly ask yourself if you would give up up half a star to own 100x bigger company. Think about how many people you can employ and what it would do for your family

Is it stress or vodka that caused suicide.
I don’t drink hard liquor. Actually didn’t drink anything for years. Started having some beers to help with stress after running roofing business for a year. Especially when people started stealing from me. It was hard not to be stressed
