Awesome drone footage Betty. I love cooling towers and always wondered what the inside looked like. I used to walk past two on the way to junior school everyday and was always in awe. When I was around 10 they demolished them. It was a big event as Fred Dibnah was very popular on TV at the time. It was very sad to watch them fall. Worst of all they were replaced by a Do It All and carpark :(
I'm not sure what cooling towers look like while they're still in use. I could try to film the cooling towers at Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station but I might get arrested!
Very cool! Drones seem like so much fun to fly although I've never tried one myself. I like the idea of a DJI Mini 2 or 3. If I were to ever get one I'd choose between those two. Nice and small, great features and no need for licensing and all that.
Yes the DJI Minis are great because they're so compact and portable - drone technology has come on a lot in recent years. There aren't as many restrictions either.
@@bettyonaboat Yes indeed! Any drone over 249gr requires a license to fly and a course to pass beforehand. With the Minis right at 249gr just go ahead and fly, in the appropriate places of course. Is that what you fly?
I do have a licence to fly bigger drones but I just use a sub-250g drone now. This was filmed quite a few years ago and I don’t think DJI Minis were available back then.
Am impressed not only a narrow boater but a drone pilot as well… I’ve flown the cooling towers myself nice work filming you’ll have to post some more about how you became interested in boating as well… proud of you 👍👍
amazing videography Betty and excellent drone footage of a fast disappearing structure. the cooling towers near Sandwich, Kent (near where I live) were demolished a few years ago altering the skyline completely. Thank you for sharing 🤗🤗😁😁
I think it’s because it would cost a lot of money to take them down so the owners will only do that if they get permission to do something else with the site. There was talk of building a gas-fired power station there but I don’t know what happened with that idea. A lot of people would be sad to see them go though!
Great little video betty, nice way to get experience of operating your drone if you've never used one before, would of been nice to hear you add a voice over on the video though 😊
Great little film, seeing them from this perspective makes me wonder just how they built them? Probably scaffolding and planking and laying the blocks by hand? I agree that they're not pretty en masse but a single one preserved for future generations could be quite artistic.
As someone old enough to be your Mum, I feel the need to say please be careful how much information you give away about where you are and what you do for a living (and where). I watch quite a few narrowboat channels, so I absolutely know why you ended up on my feed, but I'm rather shocked at the speed of your channel's growth for 30 minutes of output and in only 3 weeks. The high number of comments and your demographic... a lot of men and a lot who say they've never watched anything about narrowboats. That can only mean one thing, that the algorithm has obviously well and truly marked you out as a beautiful young woman (which you are) and is sending everyone remotely blokey your way. So many kisses and hearts at the end of comments aren't that normal for most narrowboat channels! Taking off this quickly is absolutely fantastic if you want that level of attention of course, but be careful. Some of your subscribers will genuinely be interested in narrowboats, but not this many so soon and some of the comments are quite pervy... including one right here (yuk!) about this drone footage you posted 5 years ago. I'll probably delete my comment in a while, because I don't want the resultant flak from some of the pervy ones who get pissed off at being called pervy... hehe... but I hope you get to see it. Good luck, Betty, enjoy the boat... wishing you well and safe.
Thanks for posting this, I appreciate what you’ve said. I didn’t expect so many people to watch the videos so I think I’ll stop mentioning my location in future ones. You’re right, some of the comments are a bit odd for a narrowboat channel and not the kind of comments I was expecting.
@@bettyonaboat Glad you've seen the message... you literally have thousands of avid admirers now hanging on your every vlog and that level of attention is not for the faint hearted! 😅 All the best, you have a lovely little boat.
Funny, I don’t see these towers as an eyesore they look rather majestic out in the landscape. Part of our industrial heritage. Fantastic footage & thanks for posting.
Wow, this is one of the great things about drones, you can see things from a totally different perspective and it transforms the subject matter.
Yes, that’s the great thing about them! Sometimes what you see up in the air isn’t what you would have expected.

Ooh really? I bet that was exciting!
Wow incredible views inside those things always wondered about those closest I will ever get to see thank you Betty 😊
they look magnificent
They are pretty cool!
Well worth a drone flyover 😊 I was getting chills looking down the inside of the cooling towers 😮
I know what you mean, they're a bit spooky!

Ah yes, lots of cooling towers have disappeared but I don't think these ones will be demolished any time soon. They're a real landmark in the area.
Very much a landmark on the A50, as well as the Trent Mersey.... but why haven't they taken them down? (Or have I just answered my question?)

we have in Warrington one too! they demolish it slowly. 4 of 8 chimneys are gone now
Yes they're slowly disappearing across the country. I'm amazed these ones are still there!

Yes it was years ago now!
Id probably add some backing music

Can anyone spot the nest of the Peregrine Falcons ?
