Have you considered using a bicycle instead of a car? I saw a folding bike on a narrowboat recently, and it looked like a very appealing option.

Piling is better pronounced with a long 'I' as in pile (long bulk of timber driven into the bank) or mile. Also it is usual to leave the engine running whilst mooring in case it is needed, but solo mariners must take particular care to ensure it is completely in neutral and disengaged before stepping off the boat for obvious reasons. Hello Betty, i just found you tonight, watched all your videos & became a subscriber from a small town in Iowa USA. I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. Prays to all of you🙏❤ I'm sooooo tired of hearing another person has cancer!! There has to be a cure & now! Late last week we found out my sister inlaw who has been battling breast cancer for 4 years has now only 6 months because it's attacking her brain so badly😭. This also happened to my cousin. Cancer is so wrong!!!😤😡 But beautiful people like you with your videos helps alot of us forget about the bad things in life. I hope you don't find that offensive in your time of need. I hope you find it as an inspiration to make more videos for a release of your stressful times & a time for us all to escape into your beautiful videos❤ Thank you so much for sharing your life with us.

Thanks for sharing . Just a thought, small folding bicycle would be easy to use when collecting your vehicle. Easy to stow at each end. Fascinating boat culture. Live in the Stockholm archipelago. 🙏🏻

Quick tip on locks. Opening and closing the bottom gates is usually a lot easier with the paddles open especially double width locks, so better to drop the paddles after you have closed the lock gates. The top gates usually don't have paddles with the water running in channels underground so makes no difference, but being smaller they are easy to use anyway. HTH.
