Disney + Marvel and Hollywood at large needs to give cinema back to the creatives instead of just commissioning writers and rushing scripts. We’re all here cuz we love movies but are unhappy with the current state of the industry
Honestly, I always expected this. People don't have the energy to hate on MCU, nor do they have the energy to care about it. It dies by apathy, and I think that's beautiful.
the same george lucas said even before steven spielberg, and that they quote the other is really funny because they are best friends since when they where young.
And many of us tried warning Disney of all their problems but instead of listening to their fans they decided to label all of us, "racists", "sexists" & "bigots" and went full steam ahead with their BS that ended up costing them most of their fans and we AREN'T coming back.
I just saw the movie and I laughed a few times. Not because it was intentional by it... It's almost as if you asked a 6 year old little girl in the 90s what she wanted to see in a movie. and..."Princess or Cindarella, singing, sometiing like freaky friday, oh and cats, I love Cats aaaand jump rope!" was the answer and the author was like : "don't say anymore, I got you!" The whole thing was then just garnished with a little toxic femininity and every male role was given more cluelessness than the main actors(who gives a shit about their backgrounds, it is about empoerment of the gilrls, right?) , as always. aaaand the movie was finished. Why did it take so long for this?
Captain Marvel isn't even among the top 10 most popular females in Marvel, that could be an excuse years ago since the most popular ones are from the X-Men (Rogue, Storm, Phoenix), were all with Fox, but not now there's no excuse, even the decision to turn Captain Marvel into a female version of Superman was dumbe since you can literally do the same thing with Rogue or Jean Grey.
Exactly it’s actually pathetic but that’s because they aren’t looking at comics for a bit of inspiration and ideas like they use to they are thinking about diversity political stuff and finding random directors who know nothing about marvel but as long as they have diversity ideas they don’t care it’s good enough
@@evangingerson1271 exactly. It’s so annoying it really is. They’re trying to reach a base that does not even care rather than just sticking with their massive fan base they have always had. Rather than pushing us away.
I was forced to watch this last night. Two points 1. I don't think I'm the target audience for marvel anymore. 2. The combined emotional intelligence of the characters would add up to a 6 year old.
and even 6 years old can be 5D chess champions sometime from our perspective giiven how manipulative they can be when they want something, not really the case hree
The lack of emotional maturity began with social media. Everyone behaves like childish brats now. I would even say that it even devolved the maturity of the millenials and gen x and boomers.

It goes to show how shit her character was written in the first movie, Brie Larson may not be the most likeable, but she can act in the right circumstances.
Let's face it, after her work in Captain Marvel, the bar was set pretty low. So not that surprising that she managed to get over it rather then squeeze under!

You know I actually feel bad for Iman Vellani. I met her at the Miss Marvel premiere and it was clear how excited she was about the MCU and how much of a fan she is. She's also a very sweet person whose enthusiasm for the franchise was infectious. It just sucks that someone that excited about Marvel entered the franchise when it's sinking as badly as it is now.
Monica Rambeau's origin in the comics was weirdly dignified. She was an FBI agent from a strong two-parent black family who was inspired by her firefighter dad to go into public service. She got her superpowers while investigating criminal smuggling that happened to dovetail with an investigation Spider-Man was conducting (while he also lusted after her). But now she's a torture-apologist from a single-mother household who got her powers accidentally while fighting to save a torturer...
It's all by design to remove any references to the concept of a nuclear family. To say that isn't a ideological or political agenda would be an understatement.
The only problem is, is that the original captain marvel film should have flopped as hard as this film did. The only reason it didn’t, is because they just had to release it between two of the biggest films of all time, giving the false impression that you had to watch that to understand Endgame, which was completely false.
I really wish that instead of Captain Marvel, they'd done a Black Widow movie instead. Save captain Marvel for phase 4 and let the fans have a movie about a character we all love and wanted to see more of.
I've been saying this for years & it's clearly true from how the MCU treated Captain marvel/Brie Larson after the first film made 1billion. They knew it was circumstantial & had no choice.
@@guilhermehank4938the way they treated scarlett johansson was really fucking bad :/ they REALLY should have given a movie in phase 4 that in cinemas. Preferably instead of captain plank.
They completely scammed people into seeing it by painting the narrative that it was essential viewing to understand Endgame. Otherwise, we would have seen the true box office numbers

If this were a D&D campaign, it would have fizzled out by session 2. The session where half the people don't show up, the food is mediocre at best, nobody brought chip dip, and the only drinks left are diet water and non-alcoholic beer. The Dungeon Master has given up trying to come up with plot points and game hooks because he can't even successfully railroad them into the main campaign, and at least 2 of the players don't want to follow the story anyways, preferring instead to attempt to seduce every creature after their successful failure with the buxom barmaid. In truth, it shouldn't have even gone on for as long as it did. It should have been a one shot and then nobody ever speaks of it again.

I live in Hungary. Even when a Marvel movie was bad in the past, on premier day the theater was full, and you could hardly get a ticket for the first two weeks of screenings. This time the theater where the Marvels was opening was almost empty. There were about 10 people, including me and my friend. And those 10 people were not satisfied by the end…
I was living Budapest for 15 years and remember the crowded cinemas whenever there was a premiere. Even Waterworld in 1995 with Kevin Costner at the Flórián tér cinema was packed out. Shocking to hear that only 10 people wanted to see The Marvels. Disney is done.
The wonderful thing about current writers is that they all eventually stop being current. That is why Kevin Feige today wants to hire better, less hopeless writers to restart Daredevil: Born Again and Blade who have a respectful vision for the characters. That is not really what I expect him to do, but I also can not imagine any better reason to start over when he knew we would hate the version of those scripts that were already written. There is no use in making the same mistake twice by hiring more untalented, virtue-signaling writers for the second drafts of Daredevil and Blade! November 11, 2023, 7:11am
I stumbled across you a few months ago. I can't invest in the long discussions (I am not complaining; your guests are excellent), but your five-ten minute reviews are goddamned hilarious and spot-on. You clearly know about writing, directing, acting, cinematography, and you know what's going on behind the scenes. Please keep up the good work.
People aren’t tired of superheroes. They’re just tired of Disney’s terrible decision making. (Edit: I guess I should specify what I meant in my original comment. Imo I don’t believe people (at least not entirely) are tired of the premise of superheroes in the sense of being true to their character or their beliefs. I believe people are tired of corporations like Disney weaponizing and retconning the essence of who and what the characters are for things like company politics or current year ideologies. I’m not a fan of what’s being done to characters I grew up with and shows I used to enjoy being used as tools for things I don’t agree with by places like Disney for profit. I’m sure many can relate but if taking a break from the superhero genre or just being done with it all in general is what you’ve decided to do then I respect that. I do have hope for indie creations since I’ve seen a few and were delighted at what’s been made so far.)
The massive social engineering project that Marvel has undertaken... and the subsequent gaslighting that occurs every time they are called out for it... has absolutely warranted all of the disdain, general trash talking, and relentless slander from the fanbase. That said... I still appreciate you pointing out the positives that you found along the way... like the little girl genuinely enjoying her shot at being in a superhero movie. It's important not to become the thing that we despise ;-)
Couldn’t agree more. Not that I’ll ever see this movie or anything Disney for quite awhile. I respect a review that doesn’t just bash to bash and does try to give props where props are due. I find Larson insufferable but it’s nice hear she actually tried to be a human being for once and not an arrogant California socialite
Wait, are you suggesting that people might not appreciate it when something they like is replaced with a cheap knock-off and they're told that not liking the knock-off makes them a bigot?
@@DVX_BELLORVM even original characters are pushed to be "the next x" I remember how they insisted Kamala Khan would be the next Spider-Man. Pathetic.
The answer is blindingly simple. All the MCU has to do is find some of the best old stories in the comics and try their hardest to do a *faithful* adaptation, only changing things to help the page be realised on the screen. You need directors and actors who love the stories and want to do them justice. It's all that is needed. However, it seems that Disney's meeting rooms are so full of activists that faithfully adapting older material has become impossible. They should sell the MCU to someone who wants to honour the original material.
It's the same thing with Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise. As long as the fans were angry there was hope that it could be revived and turned into something great once again. But because the producers responded to the fans' anger with more of the same animosity, the fans just gave up on carng altogether. As long as there is some emotion it means someone cares, but when emotion is replaced with indifference, then all hope is lost.
I think the apathy from the audience is the best thing that could happen to both franchises. Once they become losers in terms of both money and attention the studio will put them in the vault for a few years, which will create an opportunity for a real fan in the future to revive them without all the baggage from today's political fights.
I'm also sure that artists will never understand the nervousness of the money counters and why they get nervous about a $200+m investment risk on an untried concept by what appears to be, very green artists.
@sigmacademy I’m an artist, I’m also not an idiot… we are all forced to interact with money, like it or not. I’ve still payed taxes, owned businesses, taken out loans, made investments I’d hoped will pay off, owned houses, etc etc etc. You can’t avoid money. People who ONLY care about money, will never understand art. Their brain isn’t built that way, and art isn’t something people are forced to engage with to survive. This is why these people call it “product”, they have no concept of or respect for art. It’s a means to money, or it’s a waste of time.
One thing I love about individual reviewers on UA-cam is they don’t say “this is what fans didn’t like about the movie”, they say “here is what is wrong about the movie”. They don’t walk on eggshells to avoid pissing off companies like so many news and reviewing brands
Movie wasn’t bad at all. The hate is unwarranted and uncalled for for. My kids Loved It , my wife loved it , and I liked it , that’s all that matters to me Haters gonna hate.
@Anoneemus_Noenayme it's not always about knowing how good movie should be in order to enjoy one. yall are just wanna be movie experts for the sake of hating. just because people enjoy movies doesn't mean they Don't know nothing about how a good movie should be.
Sad thing about this movie is that there are good things in there. Kamala is fun and likeable and she could as well be the main protagonist. Brie is actually kind of okay here - things would've been very different if she acted like this in the original Captain Marvel movie. The whole plot with Carol's "revenge" causing civil war and the consequences of it is pretty good and potent material for exploring how she's viewed and what her relationships are. But unfortunately all of that is wasted.
I dunno, the Cree were depicted as unapologetic and evil imperialists in the first film, straight-up attempting genocide, so I don't think causing them a civil war that effectively punishes them for their behavior and puts a stop to their march of destruction is really fertile ground for any sort of growth or moral dilemma. I mean, if Adolf had been taken out and Germany descended into internal chaos, would the assassin feel bad about it?
You said it perfectly when you said that people are no longer angry, they just don't care. That's because the opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. And that's how all of us fans are now. We've just become indifferent. So long MCU. Ive always got phases 1 and 2 to rewatch whenever i want
I agree with your point. But I’ve always hated that saying that the opposite of love is indifference. It’s just not true. If love is a net positive then hate is a net negative and indifference is neutral or zero. Hate IS the opposite of love.
@@facelessandnameless In the movie business though, hate produces attention which produces fan wars which produces more interest in people on the sidelines to pay to see what the fuss is about. Apathy produces no attention, no coverage, no conversation, no audience, no money.
That’s the very worst thing you can do to an entertainment company like Disney. They can spin anger all day long, but the one thing they will never be able to spin is apathy.
That's where the tactic of deliberately pissing off fans to get free media coverage and the occasional hate watch always gets you. In 2008 we had Iron Man. A well known but not exactly top tier hero of what was definitely the lesser in quality of the two leading comic book brands. Played by a controversy covered Robert Downey Junior, this movie probably wasn’t going to do the much for comic book adaptations. Look across the road and you have Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, one of the most masterful adaptations from page to screen of any fictional character, rivaling the intent and respect of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy. And then the movie came out. Revolutionary CGI, a fantastic plot, down to earth characters and set pieces, and one of the best mixes of love-ability, comedy, and flaws in a lead character cinema had seen to date, perfectly portrayed by Downey Junior. It was a success, showing that even goofier characters than Batman could have a solid on screen portrayal. Fifteen years later, the same universe containing the original Iron Man has churned out nearly (or maybe even more, I lost count) thirty movies and half a dozen eight episode shows, with timelines, characters, plot threads, and stories that are incredibly messy and ultimately end up no where, while some how the visuals have gotten worse, the messages have been bought and paid for by modern virtue signaling, and the performances are truly deplorable. Hollywood has died, and there is no better picture of it than the said, decrepit state of the MCU, once just one amazing movie, now a painting where the Artist applied one stroke too many, and decided that he should keep going anyways
Well, I will let this be a lesson to me: Never let modern virtue signalers pay for your films in the short run, when there are not enough of them to make your movies financially successful in the long run. The only saving graces that Marvel has in 2023 are Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 and Season 2 of Loki. I do not think they will "save" Marvel by any means, but for now they can keep fan interest in the present and the future of the Marvel Universe on life support while Kevin Feige looks for better writers to hire for Daredevil and Blade who will be faithful to the source material, and to the earlier series and movie they already made, and while we wait for the 2023 actors strike to end so production on Deadpool 3 can resume at last. Dark Knight was overrated as hell. Wake the hell up. That movie trilogy is mass delusion all thanks to Heath’s surprising death combined with his surprising strong performance which stole the show being the only redeeming quality in the movie. Never underestimate how these things delude people into giving things far more credit than they deserve. Batman Begins was good but the rest were MEH.
Hot damn guys I was making a point about the original Iron Man, the reference to the dark knight was just showing how the first iron man had a lot of competition to beat. And guess what? I liked the Dark Knight. And I’m not alone in that. so please don’t call me delusional for sharing an opinion that millions agree with. Is the opinion true because I hold it? Of course not! But don’t attack me because I liked what I think to be a really good movie (with flaws, don’t get me wrong, but amazing nonetheless). Gosh this is why I don’t comment any more PS : rivals LOTR was a point about the skill of the adaptation- as in how respectfully it was taken from the page to the screen. I would wager that the dark knight and the LOTR trilogy are the best fictional adaptations ever, (if you disagree don’t call me a psychopath or some shit), not the actual quality of the films themselves. Dark Knight is good but definitely not as good as LOTR in an overall standpoint

This honestly saddens me. I remember me and pops being so happy and stoked watching iron man in 2008. His childhood dreams were pretty much a reality he saw a believable iron man and got to share it wit me at 16 years old. I loved this franchise honestly. Haven't cared for years now.
I am 60 something and Iron Man was always one of my favorite comic heroes. No supernatural powers, no radiation, no alien rings (or other alien items), no gods (or demi-gods), and no spider bites....just a normal man (with personal problems) that used intelligence to become a hero. When I heard there was going to be an Iron Man movie, I wanted to jump for joy...then I started thinking about Shaq and the Steel movie and panicked. Was overjoyed after seeing the movie.
Same! It was Thor Ragnorok for me, the way he spun his hammer against Surtur. Was waiting years for that. Too bad they never did the real Wolverine, except partially in Logan.
The Drinkers final comments remind me of a saying my dad used to tell me. "The opposite of love is not hate. Hatred implies that you still care on some level. The opposite of love is indifference."
What I find funny is that the villain pretty much got away with everything. They didn't give the air that they stole back, or the water, and Captain Marvel reignited their sun. The Kree got to keep everything they took, which makes the movie feel really pointless and Captain Marvel look worse. I mean, it certainly made the scene on the water planet pointless because they just got to keep the water in the end, and apparently it wasn't that big a deal in the first place. Plus, the Skrulls on their home planet were apparently nice and willing to take in new Skrulls the whole time, so Secret Invasion is pretty pointless, that's without even getting to Valkyrie taking the Skrulls away to another place and it suddenly not mattering that the Kree stole their oxygen. Also, why is Kamala Khan moving in with Captain Marvel in the end? That just seems dumb since the house was damaged but not destroyed. It's also pretty dumb how the nameless NPCs were told to get off the ship as quickly as possible by being eaten by the cats, but Kamala's family and Nick Fury don't need to and don't seem in a rush to leave (plus, they didn't even need to leave in the first place). I think that this is easily the worst MCU movie and possibly the worst superhero movie of all time because it just doesn't make sense. I'd go as far as to say that Spider-Man: Lotus is better written than this movie.
That's not true. They closed all the portals she broke open. You clearly didn't pay attention at all. You just want to hate for the sake of hate and its honestly pathetic and disgusting.
I dunno, there’s a lot of contenders for most nonsensical. Multiverse of Madness was absolute, total and complete nonsense start to finish, Quantumania was chronically confused and devoid of any consistent internal logic or continuity; even Infinity War had its share of bad logic, nonexistent logic, and character butchering.
The weird part is that, I kind of didn’t care that she won since I didn’t feel any intensity that was happening throughout the movie. Unlike other comic book movies, like The Dark Knight or Infinity War, were you felt the tension and fear if the villains got what they wanted.
The only thing you missed what just how screwed up CM power level is. She literally flew into a sun to reignite it. Someone that powerful should be able to take down generic evil space lady without any issues.
Thor and Hulk despite being powerful were not able to take down the Chitauri Army in Avengers 1. But that movie was so enjoyable that we ignored such questions.
The MCU comedy ' is even paired as a five year old cartoon . And i still can't believe people was finding Iron Man ' funny ' ; he was so damn cringe ☠️

"How does a civil war on the Kree homeworld damage the sun?" Simple. The original script probably had Carol's direct actions fighting the Supreme Intelligence ending up fucking up the entire planet and its sun, but that made her look too much like the genocidal, bloodthristy wrathful demoness that she actually is. So changes were made to the script that instead made her simply an amoral sociopath who inadvertently caused a civil war so the Kree would be partly responsible for fucking up the homeworld instead of a direct result of Carol's actions. It appears that there are limits to the amorality of writers at Marvel studios, or at least they didn't want their star heroine to come up looking worse than Thanos.
Or they wanted the hardline, zealot Kree heretics to take an all or nothing approach. To destroy the world intentionally rather than let the opposition live happily. Sounds like the Kree to me.

Remember when people watched videos of crowd reactions to that scene? And the feeling of happiness, satisfaction, and excitement over Endgame even months after seeing it? Well now the MCU is just a vehicle to shart out progressive propaganda and endless content to generate monthly streaming revenue.
The audiences knew far before the first trailer that this movie was going to fail and what the excuses were going to be and who was going to get the blame. Those three factors alone will kill any anticipation for a movie and what's even more sad is that those behind Marvel know this without any shadow of a doubt. Marvel and Disney actually cultivated the apathy they are currently experiencing
Paramount/Nickelodeon experienced this thing of causing audience apathy on themselves even worse with a smaller brand that failed to take off from the start: Wonder Park - metaphorically and literally a directionless franchise. The director was fired for sexual harassment, and the movie was too late in production to hire another director, which is why the end credits have no director in them. The story is an underdeveloped mess, from the characters to the pacing, the tone is way too inconsistent when the serious story and the message about June's grief over possibly losing her mom does not go far enough or take itself seriously enough, and the poor execution of the film killed almost any interest there originally was in its follow-up series, Adventures in Wonder Park. It has produced a full season, but has not yet aired for the public to watch. November 10, 2023, 11:32pm
The movie might do a tiny bit better than you'd expect only because people are a bit starved for movies due to the strike ending not long ago. My wife, for example, loves going to the cinema every couple months. So she doesn't care if it'll be bad because even if it is then she can at least talk with her friends about how bad it was. And as for me, I only really let myself eat junk food on very particular occasions, the cinema is one of them. So I might not enjoy the movie, but nachos, fries, corn dogs...I won't really care what's on the screen. So yeah, I'll go with her.
@AlbatrossRevenue that reply was pointless. What you said goes by the premise that no one has been going to the theaters for months now. SAW X came out recently and people went to the theaters to watch that even knowing it was a prequel/sequel type of movie. Key difference between SAW X and THE MARVELS: the audience knew without question SAW X wasn't going to have WOKE crap being shoved down their throat
I get the impression that Monica Rambeau was a leftover from a movie that was never made. They set her up in Wandavision as a possible Captain Marvel replacement but seemed to have changed their minds. So now they have to use her with two other characters that just couldn't hold a movie on their own.
When I first heard the premise for this movie was that they swap when they use their powers, I was hoping they would swap BODIES. That would have actually been interesting and given the actresses a chance to show range by having to play all three characters
Also, them wearing each other's clothes would have been fun to watch (and given Marvel MULTIPLE merch opportunities), but then one would have to explain how the clothes swapping would work, EXACTLY.
As a former comic book reader I just have to get this off my chest: The trio disney gave us: Cap. Marvel, Monica, Ms. Marvel The trio real Marvel fans want: Ghost Rider, Punisher, Wolverine. Fellow comic book readers will get this.
Well, considering the trajectory of the MCU, anyone can reasonably predict that Wolverine will NOT be in the MCU, at least not this Phase. X-23 would probably be in it, and the entire X-men team will possibly be gender-swapped all the way (just out of pure spite). The one thing that any sane person have learned by now, is that whatever you want to see... you will NOT get ANY of it. :/

what marvel did really well in the early phases was they had a different feel for each movie. iron man had a much different feel than captain america movies. besides the first avenger, wich was very much a ww2 movie, the other captain america movies were essentially spy thriller movies. iron man felt like a sleek and futuristic action movie. they all had their own feel and uniqueness that paid off when it all came together in avengers. they have lost that magic
I would also like to add that in that time, Marvel took their time. They wrote scripts that made sense and really got you invested in the character because you spent time with them. Now it's mostly just rushed stuff, scattered across a myriad of movies and series, coming out at an insane pace and you really should see all of it to actually make some semblance of sense. That just doesn't work.
Funnily enough, most all praise has been directed at Khamala Kahn and the actress who plays her. For all the shade being tossed out, it genuinely seems like she's a huge fan of Marvel and the characters, and is just awestruck at getting a chance to playing the role. So yeah, if there's a win, it's maybe that Marvel will take a note from this movie, make Ms. Marvel a fun, personable character people can actually get behind, and maybe finally launch a successful series for her. Probably won't happen, but who knows.
I loved that the Marvels made a flashback to Thanos in the trailer. I know these events are influential in MCU but COME ON, Endgame ended almost 5 years ago now. Marvel seriously can't put their hopes on that phase anymore.
The only bit of excitement was not having any idea what the marvels was to see Thanos and the original crew only to wonder wtf happened to likable characters followed by disappointment to realize the movie looks like shit and there are no significant male characters besides the marvels
The problem with these movies is that theyre purely flavour with absolutely no substance. Like, what actually is Captain Marvel? What is her powers? The earlier MCU heroes were all fairly simple concepts - a man who turns into a green monster when angry, a rich person with a metal suit, a guy with a lightning hammer etc etc. Is there anything consistent at all about CM's powers and, crucially, limitations? For Iron Man his limitation is that if his suit malfunctions or is unavailable he is just an ordinary person. For hulk its that he can turn back human at any moment. For Thor its that without his hammer he has limited abilities etc. To be honest, I think this is a problem that starts before Captain Marvel. As much as I love Doctor Strange its fair to say his character and powers is a bit more abstract, in his movies its not a problem because they do a decent job of exploring this and the doctor turned Buddhist Monk is a cool change. But they forgot how to add that depth and complexity.
I can’t believe Endgame was four years, and I can’t believe just how bad things got in the MCU in a short time. It’s a shame because I wanted to like phase four and phase five but I only liked no way home and gotg3, I didn’t find anything else particularly good.
Six years ago, every time a trailer for a new Marvel film was released I thought, "Oh man. That looks awesome. I can't wait to see that!" Now, every time a trailer for a new Marvel film is released, I think, "Good God almighty. Make it STOP!"
That's the way I feel about Star Wars. I was a huge fan back in the day. I had the Special Editions on VHS, this is when CGI was first becoming popular, George Lucas redid the original series with Special Effects. Then, Episode I came out, and it was so boring. Episode II, okay... but still kinda boring. Episode III was about the only proper Star Wars movie. It was the acting. But, then Disney releases a new one every year, for going on 10 years... that's just insanity. And then the iconoclasm with Indiana Jones Franchises and other big Hollywood Blockbusters--- I say we're at that part of child's play where everyone gets bored of it, and every game you ever made starts to get mashed all together. I wouldn't be surprised if Chewbacca and Iron Man have a movie together at some point. And Kung Fu in Star Wars is abysmal. It doesn't look right. We need new franchises. It can be done.
Only thing I care about is the Daredevil retune having the writers from the Netflix show apart from that all the other shows and movies for the next 4 years are complete dog
The MCU was once the golden standard for entertainment. Sure not every movie was a home run, but there were more hits than misses; and even the misses were connected in the overall narrative. Now the current state of the MCU is wandering with no direction, a joke without a punchline. Great video drinker. 🎉
Golden standard in terms of success maybe, but never the golden standard in terms of quality. Their best movie to this date imho is still the original Iron Man.
I'm not so sure. Calling the MCU the gold standard of entertainment is a bit like calling Burger King the gold standard of cuisine. Sure, they are people pleasers, and everybody wants a bite every once in a while, but if you keep consuming it, eventually you'll get sick and tired of having the same old thing every day.
Part of the problem with super hero movies is they seem to have forgotten what it's all about. Super heros are not cool because of over the top fight scenes but rather the internal struggles. That should always be the first highlight in a super hero movie and if something is on the cutting room floor the scenes around character growth are being cut you're doing something wrong. Secondary characters should be and stay secondary and sub plots or combat stuff should be the first things to disappear. Just about all the spider man films out there do a great job on focusing on the character and his internal struggles. Most of it applies personally to his life and how he has to do the right thing even if it's hard and there are consequences and burdens placed solely on him because no one else can bear them. Those are great movies regardless of CGI or anything else.
The sad thing is I think with Xmen coming in Captain Marvel would be a great character to have. If they did her storyline with Rogue stealing her powers and effectively trapping her consciousness inside her own just to eventually manage to free her but now damaged by the experience it could make for a really great arc. Saldy I don't think we are likely to ever get a conclusion to Rogue stealing her powers it seems.
They could absolutely still do that to extricate Captn Marvel out of the MCU but instead of it being a tragic part of Rogue's story the audience will be like "FUCK YEAH, SHES THE ONE WHO DISABLED THAT BISH!!" Rogue is the hero we need right now.
oh man.. 'a rogues tale'.... i remember watching xmen as a kid... probably 10 years old or so..... its awesome mutants with special powers fighting and blasting each other.. good stuff..... then 'a rogues tale' came on and scared the bejesus outta me.... everytime the hallucination kicks in.... i go cold and scoot away from the tv hahahahah
I strongly suspect that hour they cut from the film was all of that MESSAGE/AGENDA that is suspiciously absent. Disney/Marvel has been in full panic mode, and this reeks of damage control.
Little too late to course correct. People have been burned by Disney/Marvel WAY TOO MANY TIMES; first by increasing prices of its fledgling subscription service that wasn't anything special to begin with, second, by firing Gina Carano for completely UNJUSTIFIABLE reasons, and finally, of course, making woke, agenda-driven, identity politics-infested superhero movies when their past superhero movies did JUST FINE without that garbage being inserted into them EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Fuck 'em. They're getting EXACTLY what the fuck they DESERVE!!
I love the idea of having the Camilla Khan developing a complex in relation to her hero worship of Captain Marvel and how that would teach her to not blindly look up to others but instead trust herself. Trust Critical Drinker to suggest a plot point that would've significantly improve the film and a plot that would actually facilitate some nuance and depth. It's honestly laughable how inept everyone who was involved in the writing of the film truly are.

I mean, literally everyone knew it was gonna be bad from its conception. Everyone thought it looked bad, the trailers were bad, the BTS news was bad, and yet it still managed to defy expectations in how awful it really is. Incredible
This is why it’s getting bad reviews, people go into the movie expecting it to be bad, so they assume it’s bad instead of having an open mind. This is the truth, don’t try to argue
@@deadpooldan9862 Its getting bad reviews because its awful. # dumpy women with cgi powers fighting another girl yawn. The whole girls are the same as men is absurd

This was the first MCU movie that my friends and I didn't even think about going to. We used to get big groups together to watch every new MCU movie. Then after the Eternals we basically would discuss it but maybe see it or maybe not. This was the first one though where there wasn't even a question. I think the MCU has officially petered out.
Yeah, you're not getting 'well written villains' from a series that spent the entirety of its first phase showing how much of an evil bastard Thanos was and then decided to spend the entirety of Infinity Bore trying to make the viewer side with the guy whose idea of 'bringing balance' amounted to little more than slaughtering people
Yeah Gor the God Butcher was such a good villain in the comics.... I am still hurt but the let down we saw.... The MCU even had Christian Bale and put out the worst garbage imaginable.... Like they were actively trying to make him a crappy villain.
Personally I felt like I could see the exact points they were going to have a "The Message" moment, but they edited it out lol. It speaks that upper leadership really has given the cease and desist with virtue signaling in the movies, but they didn't START with that goal in mind so instead we have a hollow movie that is clearly incomplete. So we're basically waiting 1 more year before we actually see a movie coming out that wasn't designed around the virtue signaling, but I don't think it matters tbh. Most outlets and important people in Hollywood are basically just calling the box office failures "Superhero fatigue", conveniently ignoring that it's applying to almost every Disney product with few exceptions. So the reality is that Disney is just gonna shelve Marvel, having learned no lessons other than "people don't like superhero movies anymore".
Publicly, perhaps, but as you stated, they do seem to see the writing on the wall in private. Now it's going to be a fight between all the woke slacktivists they've hired over the years, and the money-men tired of seeing red.
It would immediately improve the film if the unstable magical portal created by the villain were only threatening the Kree world, not the multiverse, but the heroes still decide to help, because 'that's what heroes do.'
This is an underrated take. It would have been so much more compelling of the subtle and nuanced baddie was trying to kill Capt. Marvel because she caused the rift but they finally realize they can only fix it by working together - eventually the formerly evil lady who would have killed innocents to have a crack at Capt Marvel sacrifices herself to close the rift.
Personally I think that when every Marvel movie has “it’s the end of all known realities” as it’s threat, to bring it down to something as personal as threatening a single planet would still have its haters going either “Captain Marvel is so omgsupapowered she should have fixed that without blinking, they don’t like her and it goes with what I’ve said single CM” and others who go “why should we care when the stakes are so low? One planet?” Either way, the movie’s fucked
It's funny how dozens and dozens of rave reviews by audiences were posted in such a short time on Rotten Tomatoes . There's nothing suspicious there is there
Damn. Well fuckin' written. That really makes me feel sadness for Marvel Studios. Alongside the current troubles with Majors, it is hard for me to see how the franchise is going to survive.
The worst part is a movie focused just on Captain Marvel dealing with a Kree civil war could’ve been good. If you have an overpowered character one way to create tension is give them a situation that punching won’t solve. If both sides of the civil war were sympathetic or at least relatable then it would’ve led to tough choices with actual consequences. A story like that could’ve been interesting. Could’ve even worked in Gladiator (typically the strongest Kree warrior from the comics). But the problem with Marvel is they tend to steer away from any lasting consequences. Even End Game (as great as it was) reset a few too many things from Infinity War (such as Gamorra). If things just get reset or ignored it leads to the audience caring less and less about what happens.
Exactly. The films seemingly don't even have any real high stakes to keep the audience engaged. Many films have done that successfully in the past and they weren't even superhero movies to begin with. Just a good story with well-written dialog and interesting characters.
Endgame was awful, and the entire MCU has been in decline since 2015. The Marvels is just the latest example of absolute trash that comes out of this company. They should’ve ended it years ago.
@@MultipleMike-tl2tyEndgame was serviceable as a finale. It definitely doesn't stand on it's own merits and has numerous flaws, but it functions as a great stopping point for the MCU. With Guardians 3, Spiderman Far from Home and No way Home being the epilogue. Phase 4 made the mistake of trying to continue after that ending. Resulting in the continuity and writing errors of Endgame to be more pronounced as future stories have to wiggle around them. I personally have not watched any MCU film or show past Endgame besides the three I mentioned prior. As such, I can still enjoy Endgame for what it should have been. The End.
Ignorant nitpickery: I thought Gladiator was a member of the Shi'ar Royal Guard, for those times the X-Men writers felt the need to beat up expies of the Justice League (as the name suggests, he's their Superman.) Which, admittedly, doesn't mean he isn't a Kree serving the Shi'ar royal house. As I said, I'm pretty ignorant of the extra-terrestrial bits of Marvel.
One of Marvel's biggest mistakes was jumping right into the prep for the next crossover. Comics have been guilty of this as well. Note how the first set of movies were standalones with only hints of the bigger universe out there. The MacGuffins like the tesseract weren't specifically Infinity Stones, so the stories were standalone. Hell, the three Captain America movies were three different genres: a war movie, a James Bond style spy thriller, and Avengers 2.5. There was an attempt to have different tones.
Winter Soldier is a damn masterclass in grounded action and dialog, full of endlessly rewatchable scenes and a punchy pace. Probably my favourite before everything became so vast in scale.
The comics actually did have a small arc where Kamala lost faith in Carol, fun fact. It was back in Civil War 2, when Carol was arresting people because she had a psychic tell her who will commit crimes. Kamala gave it a chance because she looked up to Carol, but quickly saw how arresting people for thought crimes was messed up and Carol's side had a lot of other sketchy aspects to it. Kamala stood up to her and argued against Carol's ideas, but Carol stood her ground and Kamala ended up walking away. It ultimately ended their relationship for a good while.
Wow, why the fuck wasn't Carol in Civil War? She could've been relevant and way more valuable to help the Avengers before Thanos was an issue. Likewise, Kamala could have been introduced A LOT sooner. As usual the Black woman got shafted into a stereotype like only "an assistant", never good enough to be a lead or even co-lead, though Parris is billed as much - from what I heard, they made her insignificant until the very last post-credit scene. Marvel wanted them to fail, Jesus. Still can't do women characters right and wasting the actresses time.
@@shanonsnyder9450 Arresting ppl for thought crimes is hitting to close to home. Hollywood certainly does not want to shine a light on why that is bad when the real governments control and block opionions on the internet
I’m actually kind of sad for Iman Vellani. I never watched Ms. Marvel but everyone on both sides of the isle seem to agree she does the best with what she is given and seems to genuinely enjoy being apart of the MCU. It’s unfortunate she joined at the beginning of the decline with the creative team just being downright awful
I really like her she brings that Tom Holland type energy, she’s seems like a really good actress and brings a lot of personality but it’s just a shame they give her shit to work with. The writing for her tv show was garbage and the writing for this movie was also garbage. She was the only good thing about this trash movie.
I watched Ms. Marvel this year, and I thought it was an excellent start for Iman Vellani's acting career where she plays a cute and compelling and smart heroine. I also liked watching Matthew Lintz play Bruno Carrelli, and both are main characters I would like to see again in further MCU projects, if it gets any better after The Marvels. If we do not see Kamala or Bruno again after Ms. Marvel, then I still want to see what new acting credits Iman and Matthew can have outside of Marvel Studios. November 10, 2023, 5:18pm
The problem is the budget. If you need to make a billion, it's going be difficult to do so with a superhero movie pitched at 13 year old girls. A movie can be fine but it has to have an audience. So I blame whoever saddled this with avengers level expectations and budget. A fun superhero film for teens sounds fine. And that's where Ms marvel is pitched.
The whole scene where Monika wakes up in a different universe isn't just laughable but makes me feel bad for everyone involved. Both actresses look the same age, it's just too funny to hear her cry to her mom about being so sorry or missing her or whatever. It was so poorly acted and just awkward. Then Kelsey Grammers, Beast pops up as a wink to this maybe being the Xmen Universe? Whatever the case, t was pretty clear that Beast was the cheapest old Xmen character they could get on board for this garbage, because even his CGI looks terrible, it's insulting. Somehow, the older version was better.
In the comics, X-Men were involved in EndGame with Thanos, as well as the Fantastic Four, etc. It's just studios refusing to work together in movies. There's no "separate universe".
Sad what they've done to this franchise. All they had to do was continue to translate the great stories to film, like they did in the beginning. There was still so much money to be made, but they got arrogant and tried to insert their agenda. Fools
The thing is the film hasn't failed so far it is the top grossing film over the weekend when all the projections were that it would totally bomb. Which saddens me that people will go see anything without thinking is this film even worth your time. The Drinker gave it an honest review and god bless him watching it so I don't have to. It's because the state of the movie, and the MCU itself, is pitiful as it is. The part where it backtracked from the giga woke and tried to actually become a normal-ish MCU movie as a last desperate attempt makes it not fun to trash it, unlike the trash that is cpt marvel 1, star wars right now or the ghostbusters 2016 who deserve to get shit on. DS3-wise it's like the Old demon king harmlessly flailing after depleting it's hp. It's just sad, because if they didn't go for woke bullshit and had cpt marvel 1 as like this, it would've just been either Thor 2 or hell Age of Ultron. Not the best, mediocre sure, but significantly tolerable and not franchise killing. Critical Drinker said it best, where you just feel sorry for it more.
The legacy of Captain Marvel will always be a case study of how not to write a female lead. She and Rey both have this dubious honor, and it shall stick with them forever. This is if she is even remembered at all.
Awesome video. I’m so glad and so sad I only found your channel recently (because of the Godzilla Minus One review). There’re a lot of catch up I need to do now.
Superman never needed to get in a punching fight with criminals, he was way too strong. He could throw them into the sun without much effort. Seeing the “fighting scenes” in Marvel movies knowing how strong she is makes them even more ridiculous. I mean, she can just fly through a space ship like it’s butter.
As of 8:14 pm, PST, the day of release, this video has 752,103 views. I imagine that handily surpasses the number of people who saw the movie in the theaters. And if it doesn't surpass THAT number, it DEFINITELY surpasses the number of people who watched it and enjoyed it.
That interview of Brie larson looking prickly and bitter on the red-carpet shrugging sarcastically saying "I dunno. Does anyone want me to come back?" is so telling of her personal character. Another way to handle it would be to nod, smile and say something like "Yeah, look, I won't lie, we've had a rough time entering the MCU fanbase. It's hard being the new girl on the block. But MCU fans are passionate and dedicated, and I just ask for a chance to earn their trust." throw in some self-depreciating humor and humility for a couple of years and Brie could've totally been a fan favourite by now. But no, she wasn't accepted right away, she was prickly and bitter about it and this is where we are. Look upon her as an example of how not to be the newbie at an established work place.
To be fair, the "I dunno. Does anyone want me to come back?" could have been an attempted joke. It is the same kind of thing one could picture Ricky Jervis saying, self-belittling humour and humility. I'm not on team Brie or team anti-Brie, (I've avoided all superhero film since the poorly written Thor (1) movie, although I saw Joker.)
As expected, every article about this movie has been saying the same thing. "It’s obvious that audiences have superhero fatigue". Quite hilarious. No, we've just lost interest since they went woke. It has everything to do with the horrendous "storytelling" of these abominations. And the collapse is glorious.
Well, not just woke; also incompetence. I know they are tightly linked, but this wasn't woke--just bad. The thing Disney has to realize is that if you take away the crying about race and gender and sexuality from these writers, they have literally nothing else to write about besides "space wizard goes zap." Every so often, the woke crowd actually does make something good, like Baldur's Gate 3, but they usually can't get over their hang-ups enough to do that (or lack the talent to EVER do it).

The drinker explaining the utterly convoluted plot is gold… and exposes just how utterly hopeless these current writers are
The wonderful thing about current writers is that they all eventually stop being current.

As long as there is some emotion it means someone cares, but when emotion is replaced with indifference, then all hope is lost.
i liked and replied because i agree with you he should do a video on this even tho he already has made videos on star wars series
Disney is buying up everything and then ruining everything. It's wonderful, they are truly magical.
I think the apathy from the audience is the best thing that could happen to both franchises. Once they become losers in terms of both money and attention the studio will put them in the vault for a few years, which will create an opportunity for a real fan in the future to revive them without all the baggage from today's political fights.
Oh please the so called star wars fans will suckle anything star wars related the franchise will be fine.
Drinker could rip the film more, but even he is indifferent to it. He didn't bring up the Valkyrie cameo.
Corporates will never understand why humans love real art made by real artists.
They just won't ever get it.

@sigmacademy
I’m an artist, I’m also not an idiot… we are all forced to interact with money, like it or not.

November 11, 2023, 7:16am
Rivaling LOTR? Are you high?
Hot damn guys I was making a point about the original Iron Man, the reference to the dark knight was just showing how the first iron man had a lot of competition to beat. And guess what? I liked the Dark Knight. And I’m not alone in that. so please don’t call me delusional for sharing an opinion that millions agree with. Is the opinion true because I hold it? Of course not! But don’t attack me because I liked what I think to be a really good movie (with flaws, don’t get me wrong, but amazing nonetheless). Gosh this is why I don’t comment any more
PS : rivals LOTR was a point about the skill of the adaptation- as in how respectfully it was taken from the page to the screen. I would wager that the dark knight and the LOTR trilogy are the best fictional adaptations ever, (if you disagree don’t call me a psychopath or some shit), not the actual quality of the films themselves. Dark Knight is good but definitely not as good as LOTR in an overall standpoint

Apocalypse Now.
That's for sure. But we can always look at Endgame as the true end of the MCU.

Name 1 good thing that came out of those things people lost their minds over...
Maybe consider that it was always trite.

So now they have to use her with two other characters that just couldn't hold a movie on their own.
This is what happens when confused freaks think way too much, they can't stick to their ground for long.
The biggest shock for me was that the Drinker actually had a few compliments for the movie.
When I first heard the premise for this movie was that they swap when they use their powers, I was hoping they would swap BODIES. That would have actually been interesting and given the actresses a chance to show range by having to play all three characters
Unfortunately that would require effort from the writters, the director and the actresses
Also, them wearing each other's clothes would have been fun to watch (and given Marvel MULTIPLE merch opportunities), but then one would have to explain how the clothes swapping would work, EXACTLY.
Can't have a white actress pretend to be black
The 3 of them didn’t manage to produce 1 decent character between them, I can’t see any of them being able to act 3 different roles.
that idea's even worse than the movie. It would have been way too confusing to tell who's who.

The trio disney gave us:

Well, considering the trajectory of the MCU, anyone can reasonably predict that Wolverine will NOT be in the MCU, at least not this Phase. X-23 would probably be in it, and the entire X-men team will possibly be gender-swapped all the way (just out of pure spite). The one thing that any sane person have learned by now, is that whatever you want to see... you will NOT get ANY of it. :/

I didnt even find gotg 3 good. Way too long a boring. In fact none of the 4 people i know who watched it liked it either
That was the only good couple that they could make
No Way Home is shit too. Far From Home is a lot better
I always thought the MCU movies were overrated. Always a disappointment when compared to The Watchmen or Sin City.
It's almost as if that if one "goes woke" then invariably, one "goes broke".
And then the iconoclasm with Indiana Jones Franchises and other big Hollywood Blockbusters---
I say we're at that part of child's play where everyone gets bored of it, and every game you ever made starts to get mashed all together.
If the MCU ever became as good and successful as it was pre 2019, it would be the most amazing comeback since Apple Company.
@@kaasmeester5903 That is also my go to reference when talking about MCU movies.
MCU was juvenile trash from the beginning.
lol no it wasn't. Money, yes, but definitely not for creativity, writing, plot, character development and set pieces.
This movie is like:" I'm not angry anymore, just disappointed". Like the drinker says, we just don't care anymore
This video had 9.7K likes when I started watching. It had 11K by the time the video finished. I’ve been watching critical drinker since 2017 and I love seeing this channel grow. Keep up the great content and writing, Drinker.

@@XiaoyuuuYT Of course that's what I meant. Now out there and watch the movie five times.
For real.
You can only go to the well so many times before it dries up.
Sometimes a villain can define a hero. A good well written villain that is.
Yeah, you're not getting 'well written villains' from a series that spent the entirety of its first phase showing how much of an evil bastard Thanos was and then decided to spend the entirety of Infinity Bore trying to make the viewer side with the guy whose idea of 'bringing balance' amounted to little more than slaughtering people
@@jeremyallen5974wtf are you on about why are you even here everyone loves Thanos and infinity war no one asked
Yeah Gor the God Butcher was such a good villain in the comics.... I am still hurt but the let down we saw.... The MCU even had Christian Bale and put out the worst garbage imaginable.... Like they were actively trying to make him a crappy villain.
A good villain makes the story, if the villain is easy to defeat, the story is garbage
Even a bad written villain can define a hero.
One planet?”
Either way, the movie’s fucked
@@unijames517I mean, I loved the 3rd guardians movie, and it had far lower stakes than the other two, presentation matters

There was an attempt to have different tones.
coz they had better writers and directors, period and it lead to something, endgame
Winter Soldier is a damn masterclass in grounded action and dialog, full of endlessly rewatchable scenes and a punchy pace. Probably my favourite before everything became so vast in scale.
Not one thing that Marvel has put out comes within a mile of Superman 1978.
That is way more interesting and provoking than what we’re getting in the MCU
Personality i will write a story were young avengers vs captain marvel
Wow, why the fuck wasn't Carol in Civil War? She could've been relevant and way more valuable to help the Avengers before Thanos was an issue. Likewise, Kamala could have been introduced A LOT sooner. As usual the Black woman got shafted into a stereotype like only "an assistant", never good enough to be a lead or even co-lead, though Parris is billed as much - from what I heard, they made her insignificant until the very last post-credit scene.
Marvel wanted them to fail, Jesus. Still can't do women characters right and wasting the actresses time.
Yeah, but there is a reason people stopped buying comics. Because no one really wants a soap opera and 100% female diverse team.

I haven't watched the show, nor this movie but she positively stands out. Even from the trailers. I hope she ends up like Adam Driver.
Kelsey grammer cheap? He cashed big time that day…
In the comics, X-Men were involved in EndGame with Thanos, as well as the Fantastic Four, etc. It's just studios refusing to work together in movies. There's no "separate universe".
True
Monika goes Bobby Ewing…

Sad what they've done to this franchise. All they had to do was continue to translate the great stories to film, like they did in the beginning. There was still so much money to be made, but they got arrogant and tried to insert their agenda. Fools

Idk man, it sounds pretty hard to fly THROUGH solid butter by any means, as a normal human. Maybe it would be like flying through cotton candy

It has everything to do with the horrendous "storytelling" of these abominations. And the collapse is glorious.
Well, not just woke; also incompetence. I know they are tightly linked, but this wasn't woke--just bad. The thing Disney has to realize is that if you take away the crying about race and gender and sexuality from these writers, they have literally nothing else to write about besides "space wizard goes zap." Every so often, the woke crowd actually does make something good, like Baldur's Gate 3, but they usually can't get over their hang-ups enough to do that (or lack the talent to EVER do it).
its not that it “went woke” (even tho theyve BEEN woke for years now) it’s just that every movie and show now is soooo bad.
