Disney wants us to symphatize with Wanda for losing her imaginary kids even after enslaving an entire town, Thor lost his actual family, and home world. He's the most tragic hero in the Avengers and they want us to laugh at him.
The best version of Thor was Infinity War, he was serious, focused and had a goal of avenging others and taking down a serious threat in Thanos! Now .... Well hes been reduced to laughing stock!
And the joke mate? He actually told jokes still. Still he had humour. But it was deadpan, it was sarcastic, it was contextually appropriate. 'I bid you farewell and good luck morons' 'Notice you copied my beard?' And yet he was badass, he was a soldier of fortune, he was on a mission of revenge. Yet here he's a dopey, bumbling, stuttering, 30 IQ moron, who exhausts everyone around him (the Guardians multiple times share a look of exasperation at him, like when he goes on a tangent then smashes the temple they were supposed to protect or when he gets told off by the kids for being completely aloof and not helping, or when he falls into the New Asgard pillar and everyone looks at him in dismay). Christ this movie was an abomination.
@@Fuchsfeuer This is what I always say. IW was THE PEAK of the MCU. It'll NEVER be better. Ever. Endgame was not BAD. But the fat Thor thing was lame.... they could've made him still broken and drinking his problems away and not made him a fat bumbling idiot and his character would've been better but nope, "fat big lebowski thor funny funny!", then the all girl Avenger scene, plus introducing Time Travel in to a story which TT as a plot device will 99% of the time fuck up a story.
That's kind of been the MCU Tony Stark effect, sadly. Characters that didn't use to be excessive quipsters (Thor, Hulk, etc.) are turned into stand-up comedians, while the characters that actually *should* be doing the quipping like Hawkeye (who is boring as hell in the MCU) or Spider-Man lose one of the things that makes them unique as characters.
Deadpool himself should pop up in a future -Disney- MCU Marvel movie and just talk shit about the plot, the writing and some actors, and Disney itself, and then disappear. that would be surprising.
they don't want strong and powerful woman, because that imply she is a woman, they want a strong and powerful man, that has vagina and the pronoun of she, but not a woman.
This. When he received the message from Sif I thought maybe finally we get to have some real screen time for her, when before she only had like 2 lines in each movie.. but then they dropped her in a hospital and ignored her for the rest of the movie....
The whole ‘women can’t be vulnerable or weak or villains or struggle and men have to be torn down’ is beyond old already. How more people don’t see this and deem it unacceptable is beyond me. This isn’t some complicated story structure methodology we’re talking about here, it’s surface level basics.
Marvel has a terrible habit of taking good characters and turning them into cheap joke factories over time. Thor and Hulk seem to have gotten it the worst.
i thought the movie was hilarious. It was a comedy making fun of all thor’s and mcu movies, in my opinion. There were some boring parts too but for most part it kept me laughing at it
Lady Sif was Thor’s last Asgardian friend and one of his longest friends as they grew up together. Despite this, the writers decided to play her death off as a joke. A joke that mind you, might and I repeat *might* ,have worked if it were just some random warrior and not her. I mean it’s almost like the writers just completely forgot what she meant to Thor.
She doesn't die in the film, but I agree that her injury was treated like an SNL sketch. It seems like Taika is fixated on the idea that there can be no sense of loss, urgency or real stakes since it's a "comic book story" and thus inherently colorful and silly. The few serious moments in the movie were almost immediately undercut with jokes.
I'm glad you called out the scene where Thor gets his clothes blown off while the ladies eat grapes in the background. It was all over the trailers, and every time I saw it, I could only think about the gale-5 shitstorm of outrage it would be if the genders of the characters involved were reversed.

The tone of the comic book asked for a movie Disney/Marvel cannot allow themselves to do anymore. If they tried it is pure greed, nobody will be happy, nor the few comic book readers of the story, nor the MCU moviegoers that love light comedies.
I don't know that much about modern Marvel comics, I prefer the classics (I stopped reading after AvX). What was Gorr like in the comics and what did the movie change?
Gor the God Butcher story line was supposed to be like a mystery horror story, Thor was supposed to be somewhat like a detective unraveling events from horrific crime scenes. Gor was supposed to be a villain that we could sympathize with, to an extent, because at the same time he is a ruthless cold blooded killer but he has valid reasons for going after the gods. They could have made this film for 1/100th of the budget and it would have been a million times better.
Let's also not forget Korg apparently has two dads despite previously establishing in Ragnarok that he has a mom (who has a boyfriend (that Korg hates)). Either the writers forgot continuity or Korg has a very complex family life.
So it was a tri-marriage. Two husbands, one wife. Of course, sexually it makes way more sense the otherway. One man can impregnate two women, but two men...?
I'm ok with some jokes in a Thor movie. I'm not ok with Thor BEING the joke of the movie. The last few appearances of Thor have made him a sad, bumbling, fat, loser, who the audience is meant to laugh at. I think movie Thor peaked in Infinity War, downhill from there.
His grief was never taken seriously, unlike Wanda, whose Disney tried so hard (and succeeded) in making audience root for her enslaving people and mass murdering heroes.
Definitely agree. I even thought Ragnarok was a good movie and yeah, Thor was awesome in Infinity War. But then, Endgame happened and it all went downhill. Tho tbf, the same thing can be said about the MCU as a whole (with the exception of NWH)
I think Ragnarok had a good balance of serious and goofy Thor, in this he’s just an incompetent bumbling idiot who gets outsmarted and out-skilled by a woman who’s only just been deemed as worthy because… reasons

The thing about Ragnarok was, the movie had actual competent writers with Taika's humor being a good support. The humor was well appreciated as it came off the heels of a depressing Thor movie. Furthermore, the humor made sense in most cases for example, the cutting off of Surtur's initial speech at the start of the movie made sense as the ropes binding thor turning made sense. It was within the realm of sense of what could happen. That was also followed by another joke of the executioner's ladies being scared off by, lava dog goo. It set up his character well as an egotistical person who was more occupied with impressing them any chance, which in result made him turning away from Hela at the end of the movie a small, satisfying character arc. The main thing however, is how the script gives the emotional and serious moments a chance to flourish and develop instead of fucking them over with stupid jokes (*cough* Shrek 3 *cough*). Even as a dumb 14 year old, this movie felt, off. It felt like a cheap and boring movie that exploited incredible amounts of work with character building, emotional moments from better, older films rather than a fun, goofy but amazing story.
Ragnarok was pretty garbage in of itself, it was just a movie that threw in as many cheap jokes as it could with no real gravity or sense of danger or adventure. What few scenes tried to be serious were awkward and rushed.
@@archibaldc.1833 Absolutely agree with this, i thought it was the turning point in the Marvel series. I can't take a movie seriously that doesn't take it self seriously. I liked the first Thor movie then decline was a steep downward curve
I remember as a kid coming across this book called Bored of the Rings. Basically it was a parody of Lord of the Rings, tearing down all these beloved characters and making fun of all the serious things Tolkien put into his work. I remember being really bothered by this because it just seemed so insulting to something that so many millions of people loved. Now nearly every single movie and TV show is like Bored of the Rings.
There are Parodies made out of love for the series (Think Space Balls or Austin Powers) Parodies made with little care and because it’s popular (Think of the Movie Genre Parodies in the 2000s and 2010s like the Epic Movie) And Parodies made out of spite like what you described. It could also be the fact that 2000s as I remember was made in the year where there were no “Gen Z” Humor to really mock them so edgy content ran rampant.

Gorr in the comics was no joke. He massacred countless pantheons with ease, tortured a god of torture till he broke, managed to enslave countless gods to make a bomb that would ripple throughout time and space to kill every God ever, held his own against Thor multiple times even when there were three of him and in the end Thor couldn’t beat him. It was only once he realised that he himself had become a god did his ‘child’, which he created out of grief and power, kill him, essentially committing suicide. His origin is also way better. He and his people were in a barren wasteland of a planet and had to trek through it. Over time members of his tribe would die of dehydration and starvation, all the while the priest would say it is the will of the gods and they shall be rewarded. Eventually Gorrs wife and unborn baby are killed, leaving him to raise their child. Eventually they died as well and when the rest of the tribe told him that it was the Gods plan, did he flip out. He denounced the Gods, called everyone fools and was exiled from his people, left to die. Near death, Gorr would encounter two wounded gods, one in gold and the other in darkness. The golden one asked for Gorrs help and Gorr went berserk, taking the dark Gods weapon and slaying the Golden God. Believing all gods were selfish, uncaring and cruel beings, unworthy to live let alone be worshipped. From that point on he made his vow, “All Gods Must die.”
It's like Dolly Parton... "honey, it takes a lotta money to look this cheap!" ...the major difference is that Dolly has class and charisma, Hollywood... de nada.
The overuse of jokes was such a problem. Thor and co. never seem terribly concerned about the fate of the kidnapped children, because they're still just cracking jokes non stop. And if the characters don't take the plot or the stakes seriously, why should we?
Same man. Natalie portperson calls that a mission even and all of them continue to talk about their love life. There was no intensity throughout. Also, Thor made the kids immortal by the end. The amount of jokes that didn't land was too much for me.
Too many jokes, too many classic song bits being thrown in to every scene, not enough seriousness, most awful dialogue. Wish the actors had the balls to just quit after seeing the script.
Thor leaving with the Guardians in Endgame made us so excited for future movies and the future of the MCU as a whole… Him abandoning the Guardians within the first few minutes of the movie just shows that, like Star Wars, Disney Marvel has no idea where they’re going with Phase 4… I don’t even know what they’re building up to…
@@bromododragon2252 Oh it will be retarded if that is the case. CoD Zombies went that route and was absolutelty confusing and goofy. What started as a simple Nazi experiment gone wrong to a multi-dimesional war of space aliens and Gods, it was clear the story jumped the shark.
I miss the old Thor (including IW). I really don’t mind when people say he’s boring in the first movie. People have their own taste of Thor’s character. The movie knows when to get serious and comedic like Odin banishing arrogant Thor, etc. It feels weird when they retconned warriors 3 as a bunch of fodders in Ragnarok. I would’ve told 14 yo me in the past that I shouldn’t care about them
I really don’t understand all the hate Thor TDW gets. When it came out I wasn’t crazy about but I rewatched it years later with my dad and we both really liked it. Thor was badass, the villain Malekith was dark and menacing and not cracking jokes every two minutes. I liked when Thor was taken more seriously and not treated as an incompetent buffoon like he is now.
Gorr was the only standout for me as something of value here (beyond Jane’s ticking clock). He was compelling, threatening, and terrifying (he actually made a kid cry in my theatre), but the problem is that he’s in a different movie from everyone else. In a serious film, he would’ve been an iconic antagonist but now he will likely be forgotten. A pity this is the route they took.
I watched a video that went over the God-Butcher story arc, and given what the Drinker explained of this movie...ya, Gorr was WASTED here. In the comics, he's not just crying over a dead child. He watched his people squander themselves in devotion to gods who never answered their prayers. He watched his son and wife die, all the while being told "just pray harder." He was thrown out of his own tribe for daring to question his people's unwavering faith as they starved. And then, when he actually got to MEET one of his people's gods, all he saw was a pathetic, mewling creature begging for help (the god had been grievously wounded in a fight with another deity.) Gorr doesn't simply kill gods. He LOATHES them, with a hatred so fervent it'd make the most hardcore religious zealot jealous. And when Thor gets on Gorr's trail and goes to find other gods, all he discovers is butchered corpses. Not killed; BUTCHERED. Nailed to trees, eviscerated, torn apart...Gorr exacted an undying vengeance against the very concept of divinity, and you could FEEL his wrath in every scene depicting his handiwork. Giving Taika Wahtiti a villain of that caliber was a mistake. Actually, giving him another Thor movie appears to have been kind of a mistake.
@@GAHAHAHH I mean "Bullying" is one context, and not the applicable one in this scenario. That naked Thor scene is such a blatant double standard that I wouldn’t watch the movie for that reason only. The level of hypocrisy there is just sickening.
Reminds me of that underwear scene in star trek into the darkness the writer actually had to apologise for.. Either these kinds of scenes are ok, or they are not. No dobble standard allowed.
I not long posted agreeing to a similar post. There is no place for nudity and objectification regardless of the gender in any Marvel movie where parents take their kids to see it. As soon as I saw this scene in the trailer and all the hypocritical women would be shouting "sexist" and "misogynistic" had it been a naked Natalie Portman tied up, simping over Hemsworth like he is a piece of meat in the comments, I cancelled my Disney+ subscription explained why. I told them that this isn't equality or feminism (not the proper one that actually wants equality) but just misandry. I then told them where they can go with their blatant double standards and they won't get another penny out of me for as long as I live.
The nudity is just unnecessary as is the movie itself. They like to humiliate and sexualize Hemsworth whenever they can. But women can’t be seen as feminine or sexy anymore. Although I’d rather not see Tessa or Natalie completely naked either.
Gotta feel for Chris hemsworth, he really loves the character and doubt anyone could play him better but he still gets shafted like this time and time again playing this character.
Pretty sure he enjoys playing jokey thor though I'm sure he was getting bored of the character after the 2nd thor film, so I wouldn't feel sorry at all. But I do prefer the less goofy thor personally.
Disney doesn’t want actual strong male leads in their films. If you’re not a feminized/humiliated male, a woman, black, gay or trans, they could not care less about you
I genuinely believe that the reason Gor had no funny lines and was a real threat is because Christian Bale refused to let Tika Wititi have his way with the character. He’s a serious actor who takes his craft very seriously.
@@jiminlong7096 that’s because this movie sucked. If it had picked a more serious tone Bale would have had something better to work with. @@jiminlong7096 True. While a lot of people found her stale and uninspired in this movie I was actually surprised with how well she did. Those moments where you are reminded she has cancer really hit hard, and portman played it well. I just wish they would have shown more of her struggling with the fact that she’s dying and not try to make her a goofy, awkward, character that tries to hard. They really missed a lot of opportunities in this movie, if i’m being honest. Like: They could have shown more of how even after hundreds, or thousands, of years, valkyrie is still torn up about how her sisters were massacred and odin did nothing about it. And there’s this side of her that harbors a lot of anger and pain. It would have been such a cool twist if gor actually convinced her to join him.
Mjolnir has a magical UI/AI of sorts, although it's never really explained in detail. Basically, the hammer enables the worthy to use the power they're given immediately, since it's often a "moment of need" kind of thing. Cap clearly benefits from it as well, in Endgame.

Thanks so much for pointing out the hypocrisy of making sexually objectifying a man being okay while a great crime when done to a woman. It's actually the centerpiece of their advertising campaign. I'd like to propose the Critical Drinker Axiom of Entertainment: If a woman can do anything a man can do then anything you can do to a man can be done to a woman.
I am in complete agreement on this. This one scene alone, and its blatant hypocrisy angered me so much that I wouldn't watch this crap if Elon Musk handed me a blank cheque to fill out. The fact that they have turned Thor into some himbo piece of meat joke is disrespectful to the character and they wouldn't dare treat their female superheroes in such a way. I had to explain to my kids why I was cancelling Disney+ and why I am now done with all Disney content. They will never see another penny of my hard earned as long as I live now. I also notice how all modern media is now also preaching body positivity and to not be "fat phobic" but that only seems to apply to women too. What men are being told by this scene is that they need to spend hours in the gym every day to get a ripped physique, and be one of the 5% very well endowed, something men have no control over, like their height. Essentially the same lie told by the adult industry which is shown to have a damaging effect on young men as well as women. Given the suicide rate is much higher among men, I find this rather irresponsible. I miss the old days when feminism meant wanting equal rights for women. I was on board with that. When Playgirl came out, feminists were saying "if men can objectify and look at naked women, then we should be able to objectify and look at naked men". That is completely fair and what I regard as equality. This, whatever this crap is, it is not equality, it is double standards plain and simple. The feminists these days are saying "it is sexist and misogynistic to objectify women, but it is okay for us to objectify men". They simply want to replace misogyny with misandry. Neither of which are good things to have in society. On top of all that, this scene and where they are going on about orgies, is absolutely not appropriate for kids. If my kids were 8 years old I wouldn't take them to see this any more than I would have, had that had been Natalie Portman or Tess Thompson tied butt naked and objectified in such a way. They shouldn't be objectifying anyone in these movies, regardless of their gender.
And what do you even lose by extending the same protections to men that you insist that women need? Why is it so wrong for YOU to be forced into the bland world where you aren't allowed to objectify people that YOU are forcing others into?
@@disgruntledparent Indeed, it's the same as modern tactics to supposedly combat racism. Instead of creating equality, they create inequality in the opposite direction and they claim that it's fair. Certainly one wouldn't tell their children that if one child hits them to hit them back to even things out, but in this case, it's their grandchildren or even great grandchildren hitting each other for what was done many years ago.
If they truly wanted a funny Thor film, they should have based it on Thor's adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy instead of abandoning them in the first 15 minutes. I might be a bit biased because I absolutely adore the Guardians, but I really feel like this movie should have been about Thor and the Guardians, and Gorr's fantastic arc should have been saved for another serious Thor movie (ideally not directed by Taika Waititi). Such wasted potential, in more ways than one.
Well, there were ppl complaining that Thor: Ragnarok was Hulk 2. So they cut out the Guardians early on so that the Thor movie can actually be a Thor movie. Whether it worked is another question...
The insinuation that women need to grow would throw out the "you are perfect as you are" masturbatory mantra the media asks modern women to get completely drunk on.
Logically, Thor should be the most tragic hero in the MCU considering all the suffering he's been through. Yet they treat it as the funniest/lighthearted thing in the MCU. While we have Wanda in the other corner, being evil for the most illogical reasons, but they treat it as if it should make us sympathise for her. Why? Disney.
Notice as well how people have been ABSOLUTELY brainwashed to think Wanda is 'the most sympathetic character who lost the most' in a Universe where 1) Nebula: was stolen as a child, forced to fight her 'sister' in combat training, systematically physically and mentally tortured and broken down over years and years to be an evil killer (having her eye ripped out, things like that) and cyborg, the living embodiment of Thanos' monstrous machinations against her will until finally she embraces them as the only life she can live, as well as: 2) Bucky, a man almost killed in action in a World War, essentially giving his life to serve his country, instead he loses an arm, spends near 70 years in the capture of his enemies, is continually put in the brain blender so that his mind, try as it might, is melted down and rebuilt into a Nazi super soldier machine who was the silent killer for their atrocities over the years, can experience and remember every one of these horrific experiences he's been made a flesh suit to enact, loses his entire family and every one he knew and loved, loses his entire life from 70 years before and, like Steve, is forced to acclimatise to the 21st century thanks to finally being broken out of mental captivity by Hydra, but is framed by Zemo and, on the basis of 1 grainy CCTV picture, marked for death (to be shot on sight) by the thankless governments of the world despite his previous service as a war hero, despite not being confirmed guilty of his supposed crimes, and is then hunted and attempted to be assassinated by T'Challa (who abuses his royal power to imprison Bucky as an intended War Criminal with no evidence), is then brainwashed by Zemo into killing more innocents against his will, and then finally is almost killed by Tony thanks to Hydra having used him to kill the former's parents, people he knew. Bucky finally escapes and is given the tiniest reprieve in Wakanda before now having to fight in a Universal war, which sees him finally killed in action all these years after World War 2. He's revived and what does he do with all this trauma, all this horror, all the endless nightmares and guilt and persecution and manipulation? He goes to therapy and first avenges his time as the Winter Soldier before then amending it by going to the people who Hydra used him to wrong during his time as a super soldier cyborg assassin for the death cult he once fought against. And these pricks try to force the opinion that Wanda suffered the same and more, as Bucky, Nebula and Thor? Absurdity.

Disney has locked themselves into having to produce so much Marvel content. They just put out more episodes of content rather than films. These episodes are more like a theme park ride than a movie experience. Martin Scorsese was right after all.
Yeah, quality dipped significantly after the infinity saga. Even no way home had a LOT of rewrites said by tom holland i think, vfx artists are significantly stressed out by the output and consequent workload asked of them by disney. They need to really streamline their content(content shouldnt be longer than they need to be), all the disney plus shows have been chore to watch through, very emotionally taxing, it needs a big revamp, they need more competent writing or if they have competent writers, give them more time, plan waaay ahead, 6 years ahead. They only had one solid and good film past then, the rest have been messes with contrived plots, lazy writing and just mainly used for political gain than actually telling a good story, and the ones that aren't that struggle with a bad story, plot holes and just plain horrible writing and decisions. Like I'm glad it continued because we got the new Spiderman film which was a rare film these days, a movie made to entertain people with no politics or woke bs, and made for fans and not critics or twitter. It was a good movie basically. Now try and say the same for the other media they have made past endgame

To prepare for his role as Gorr, Christian Bale actually travelled to different realms and killed several gods. His commitment to the role is second to none.
Very true… Many actors have said that it’s irresponsible to go as method as Bale does because of the great risk of death you can receive from intergalactic space deities.
The fact that they cut the scene that bale did the "come to daddy" scream that bale said was the only reason why he did the film, is really damn criminal
The worst tragedy of Marvel movies is that they have an excellent Thor in Chris Hemsworth and they keep mucking it up. Hell, at this point he should be playing the Dragonborn in a [well written] Skyrim movie/series. But noooo, we have to waste decent acting talent on stupid, stupid writers.
The worst part is how fantastic he can be (Infinity War, even in this movie he has the odd moment 'Let go of my things' *as he lifts Gorr with one arm and throws him) but he himself chooses to side with Taika and 'keep reinventing the character' 'we wanted to do something different every time' 'Taika's like a big kid' etc. He's as much to blame for Thor now being a retard and it's such a shame because he is phenomenal when he's actually dialed in but he wants to do what Taika 'I'll ruin your mythos in a minute baby' Waititi wants to do 'with the imagination of a 7 year old' over something that suits and benefits the character.
Wow....that's the best point I've heard about the Thor movies - Chris Hemsworth IS an amazing Thor - and they ARE mucking it up over and over. He's like a freakin' work of art. They could actually use him just to get women (and probably gay guys) into these movies instead of loading them up with baloney like Natalie Portperson & "King" Valkeryie. Hemsworth deserves BETTER. He's probably the only male actor I can even name off the top of my head these days & certainly one of the few really attractive ones.
Poor Chris Hemsworth he is definitely trying his best and giving it his all and gives a excellent performance as usual he does the best with this mediocre script.
What are you talking about? Marvel gave him the freedom to take Thor anywhere and he CHOSE this version of Thor. He thought this was a good idea because everyone kept telling him he's a comic genius when in fact he's merely good with comedic timing. He's as much to blame as Take2 Twatiti. And yes, this is Feige's fault too. We can't credit Feige for the good stuff and just pretend he didn't produce the bad stuff.

@MB Lady Thor was a Marvel decision. Not his. Not to excuse him but blame should fall where it deserves to be heaped on. Seems the issue with this film is they had success in Ragnarok and decided to take what made it decent and crank it up to 100.
how did it give Jane powers? it's already established in the last movie that it only focused Thors innate powers. but hey, strong powerful woman!!! ffs

There's a continuity error with Korg in this movie. In Thor Ragnorak, Korg says the only people to show up to his rebellion were his mother and her boyfriend, but in Love and Thunder he says he has 2 dads. Almost as if they're going for that "agenda"

Bale's performance was excellent. Anytime he was on screen I thought, "Why isn't he in more of this film?" Even the writing for his character was the best in the movie.
I agree - totally loved how Bale performed and was featured. My only grievance was not showing me murder more gods. All we saw were a few shots of the aftermath. I would've loved to see Gorr slay Falligar the Behemoth.

Christian Bale was fantastic as Gorr. Honestly, the highlight of the movie. As for Natalie Portman, I think it was more a Taika Waititi problem. She has moments where she kills it - like the washbasin scene, or the one in the hospital before Thor leaves to go to fight Gorr. Of course, Taika has to undercut every serious scene with a joke.
I caught so much shit for not being a fan of Ragnorok, like yeah comedic relief every now and then is fine to prevent a movie from being completely grim, but you need to let serious scenes breath for God's sake. Lord of the Rings is a perfect example, it has moments of levity and some comedic relief from the likes of Pippin and Gimli, but it let's the epic moments play out. Imagine if when Elrond gives Anduril to Aragorn he takes the sword and then drops it and goes "uuuuuj sorry hehe" that's Return of the King by Waititi.

Btw. the hospital scene where Natalie Portman has a moment with Thor, the joke which was said there was "break a leg" and Thor goes something like "oh I am gonna break more than a leg" or something like that. To which I kinda gave it a pass because that might be something actual humans might say to lighten the mood a bit after a heavy conversation like that. But the rest was just .... I agree with one of the comments. Thor is the most tragic hero of them all given what he has lost, and they want us to laugh at him.
honestly what you said about the child's point of view is such a good point. Someone pointed out that the silly stuff in ragnarok could be forgiven if it was thought of as Thor retelling the story for children. Love and Thunder felt like a big family romp, but with more sex and violence. If they had dressed it down to be a kids movie it might've been stronger. Like, the part where the kids get stolen, there's a good bit where Thor calms them down and assures them he's going to save them, but then there's never any real fear that a marvel movie is going to harm children. People would still complain, but at least it might be a more cohesive movie.
Fun fact:The reason why Gorr's All-Black Necrosword looks so underwhelming in this film is because one of the All-Black necrosword's powers is too manifest any weapons the user want but they gave this power to Hela because they said that Hela didn't have any power that were exciting or cool to look at. The reason why the All-black Necrosword has this ability because it's the first and strongest symbiote made by Knull the creator of the symbiotes. That's why in the comics when Gorr gets the necroswor it becomes his new clothes and he doesn't hold the sword it just manifest around his hand. Sony owns the rights to Venom, Carnage, and Knull also all Marvel symbiotes which is why the movie doesn't explain or hint where the necrosword comes from. I wrote this comment for all the people who were wondering where the sword came from and they will never explain the necrosword because it gets destroyed at the end of the movie.
Which begs the question why they didn't just use Gorr instead of Hela as the villain since she's never a bad guy in the comics and more a neutral party.
I kind of liked the simplistic design of the Necrosword in this movie. Maybe it's just my preference towards "historically accurate" swords or something, but the sleek longsword-like design is so nice to look at. Then again, I wish he had the ability to transform it into different weapons.
Also All Black is the first symbiote, and well Sony doesn’t need to be that generous. It exposes laziness in the MCU, they could’ve connected it to some form of shunned Lovecraft Cthulhu creature; hence tentacles. But that requires talent and thought
I'm trying to work out Wtf the necrosword is meant it do in the movie. The gods are established as just being advanced and super powered aliens. We've seen them literally get killed the same as anything else so what's the point of a God slaying sword?
I give the movie a 7/10. It could’ve been more serious and wayyyyyy better with it’s build up. But in my opinion his character wasn’t tarnished at all. I never really felt the sense the comedy ruined his character as a whole, but ruined moments that should’ve been serious. Overall the film feels like a Phase 1 Marvel film, and is a back to basic superhero film. Not a bad film, but no the MCU’s highlight either
I could only get 1/3 of the way through this movie before I turned it off. Your review not only saved me from having to go back and endure the rest to get the full story, it was also ten times more entertaining. Thank you. :-)
My biggest dislike in the movie was when Jane gave Thor a Dear John letter, as he was off saving the world or universe or whatever, which he always returned to her after. Then she had the audacity to say he left her, just because she left before he returned.
I had an okay time with the movie when viewing it as a Thor parody. It doesn't work as a serious canon Marvel movie with all of its plot holes. The most difficult thing to forgive for me at least was the absolute bipolar nature of the movie jumping from cancer and death of a child to slapstick, male nudity and yelling space goats.
"Serious cannon marvel film." Okay, re-read that....... Now come back with a real reply. Other than that, I can understand why people didn't like the almost ADHD cuts. It was made for a certain brand of people, and will probably go down as a cult hit more than anything

My biggest gripe is how Ragnarok established that Thor doesn't need his hammer to use his lightning and then Love and Thunder just throws that out the window. When they got captured in the shadow realm he shouldn't have had any trouble escaping but noooo he needs the axe before he can use his lightning. Also he confirmed he was still worthy so when he went to fight Gorr alone why didn't he take Zues's lightning bolt AND Mjonir?
The one scene that really got me was when the whole town is arguing and Valk is managing not at all to maintain order and Thor just says "Asgaurdians!" and everyone stops and looks at him. It's almost as if the movie KNOWS he's the king, that he should never have giving leadership to an unproven alcoholic foot solider of a dead order.
And Waititi managed to turn that into a joke also because actually having a male character get one over on a female character on who's the better leader (even though its Thor and we already know he's a proven leader) would've damaged "THE MESSAGE".
To be fair, when a 6'5" guy with a deep voice gets loud, people tend to stop what they're doing & pay attention. Try as we might to cover it up, the human pecking order is very simplistic and bestial.

Remember, this “king” sold countless slaves to their deaths to get drinking money for millennia because she couldn’t handle a humiliation of losing against Hela. And yet she’s more worthy of the throne than Thor, whose biggest sin was just getting fat.
She's king enough to buy herself some lesbian formalwear and pose in meetings like she's in a fashion shoot or a perfume advert. She's just not king enough to stick around and shoulder her responsibilities should they ever turn out to be dull or difficult. Truly, the gracious and wise leader Asgard deserves. @@lucyhardman2267 I really miss Jane Foster the EMT. Making her a scientist was a mistake, because it takes a core part of what made the character work and give the relationship with Thor weight.
The concept of Lady Thor has always baffled me. Thor is not a secret identity, like Spider-Man or Superman. It's the name of one specific guy. A guy from an actual, real-world mythology. If Thor had a name like Thunderman for example, someone else could take his place. But you can't just take his actual name, and say you're him now. In the same way, Thor can't just become Jane Foster. He can become a doctor like her, but he can't actually take her name and identity.

The darkhold is a evil thing with its own will that tricks people into some evil shit by offering vaguely what they want. In basically every depiction of the book in any medium. Its not *trying* to help Wanda. I started rooting for Gorr when he had his scene with the asgardian kids. Really appreciate the attempt at adapting Gorr's personality and Christian Bale truly does shine despite the lazily put together look of Gorr the God Butcher.
There’s no debate that he is an actor that seems to always (at least almost always) really care about his craft and it shows. Definitely agree that as far as looks… that isn’t Gorr. However, like some other people have said, it’s possible the way contracts are and stuff there might be a certain amount of actual face time written in or something. Hard to really know. Still a shame that the look is off.
It was no surprise the Juice* at Disney made Gorr "White". I think I got bored in the early 2000s when the Juice* and Come-you-mists screamed that it was "racist" to depict the Orcs in Lord of the Rings: Fellowship as "Block*" and "Sallow-Skinned" (even though that's the way Tolkien wrote it because he had eyes and knew about "Block Culture" and "Block* Speech"). Which is why they changed Orcs in the "Two Towers" from "Black" to "White" using CGI. I remember thinking "This looks a bit motley". A few years later, I realized "Oh, THAT'S why they did this!". Same reason why they made the "Dark Elves" look "White" in Thor: Dark World, all the way back to why they tried to pretend most of the crimes in America being made by "Whites" in the TV series COPS as the years went on (The majority of crimes, especially violent crimes like murder, rape, assault, etc, are committed by "Blocks*, and the VAST majority of such crimes are committed by "Not-Whites*").
Can someone explain to me aside from the color pattern of the character Gorr in the comics why did they have Christian Bale slim down? I don’t understand that design choice why not have him be muscular like he was in Batman?

Why does Disney/Marvel feel like there's no consequence for doing what they've done with Thor? They humiliate him whenever possible, they constantly reset his character growth and motivation to his most immature and incompetent. Thor is literally one of the most powerful, most experienced, and genuinely likeable heroes in all of Marvel; and he gets utterly shafted in almost every movie he has a role in after Dark World! Infinity War Thor was the first time I really felt like people saw Thor as a true God, not some alien being, not a boring character, but an out and out Godly presence in the MCU. And then they butchered him in Endgame, which (in my opinion) even more than Ragnarok, continued to open the door to dreck like this movie.

And then, when he actually got to MEET one of his people's gods, all he saw was a pathetic, mewling creature begging for help (the god had been grievously wounded in a fight with another deity.)
Gorr doesn't simply kill gods.

Oof! Well said buddy!
Why?
Disney.
Notice as well how people have been ABSOLUTELY brainwashed to think Wanda is 'the most sympathetic character who lost the most' in a Universe where
1) Nebula: was stolen as a child, forced to fight her 'sister' in combat training, systematically physically and mentally tortured and broken down over years and years to be an evil killer (having her eye ripped out, things like that) and cyborg, the living embodiment of Thanos' monstrous machinations against her will until finally she embraces them as the only life she can live, as well as:
2) Bucky, a man almost killed in action in a World War, essentially giving his life to serve his country, instead he loses an arm, spends near 70 years in the capture of his enemies, is continually put in the brain blender so that his mind, try as it might, is melted down and rebuilt into a Nazi super soldier machine who was the silent killer for their atrocities over the years, can experience and remember every one of these horrific experiences he's been made a flesh suit to enact, loses his entire family and every one he knew and loved, loses his entire life from 70 years before and, like Steve, is forced to acclimatise to the 21st century thanks to finally being broken out of mental captivity by Hydra, but is framed by Zemo and, on the basis of 1 grainy CCTV picture, marked for death (to be shot on sight) by the thankless governments of the world despite his previous service as a war hero, despite not being confirmed guilty of his supposed crimes, and is then hunted and attempted to be assassinated by T'Challa (who abuses his royal power to imprison Bucky as an intended War Criminal with no evidence), is then brainwashed by Zemo into killing more innocents against his will, and then finally is almost killed by Tony thanks to Hydra having used him to kill the former's parents, people he knew.
Absurdity.
Because of THE NARRATIVE.

honestly what you said about the child's point of view is such a good point.
Dude, Ragnarok was an actually good movie. Don't compare it to this obvious cash grab. There's far too many things wrong with this movie.
@@thefanwithoutaface8105 Because they wanted a female villain, I guess?
I kind of liked the simplistic design of the Necrosword in this movie. Maybe it's just my preference towards "historically accurate" swords or something, but the sleek longsword-like design is so nice to look at. Then again, I wish he had the ability to transform it into different weapons.
Also All Black is the first symbiote, and well Sony doesn’t need to be that generous. It exposes laziness in the MCU, they could’ve connected it to some form of shunned Lovecraft Cthulhu creature; hence tentacles. But that requires talent and thought

I love how the concept of 'worth' gets bandied around by proud, egocentric characters who haven't earned a thing. I love how a 'king' doesn't have a shred of responsibility but still think she deserved it. I love how a stage 4 cancer patient doesn't suffer any of the symptoms of her treatment. I love how nothing is taken seriously in this film. So much to love.
And, I love the dripping sarcasm of this comment.
"I'm only worthy of the hammer because you taught me to save people, Jane." That was rich when both Thors watched all the children of Asgard get captured and decided they'd rather stand about making small talk than actually rescue them.

@@lucyhardman2267 I really miss Jane Foster the EMT. Making her a scientist was a mistake, because it takes a core part of what made the character work and give the relationship with Thor weight.
I love how I can smell the coming downfall of that hateful director Tiko whatever, he's going down for this.
The real Thor, not this Disney clown, is a regular dude from earth who finds Mjolnir and is granted the powers of Thor and is his alter ego.
Its been done for years in the comics

4:25 Why couldn't Wanda just go to Eternity to revive Billy and Tommy? Are you trying to tell me that the Darkhold didn't even mention that in passing?
The darkhold is a evil thing with its own will that tricks people into some evil shit by offering vaguely what they want. In basically every depiction of the book in any medium. Its not *trying* to help Wanda.
But broadly speaking, this is a common problem for all long running series/movies, where the need to up the stakes and introduce new problems and solutions, make previous look dumb and inconstant.
Wouldn't Thanos have done the same?
@@attackerangel2951 Odds are, he might not have known. He was focused on the Infinity Stones; there's no evidence that he possessed any knowledge of Eternity.
What? Gorr literally looks creepy as crap, his look gets the job done, whats so "lazy" about it? I may have didnt read his comics but his look is anything but lazy, dont start whining about some stupid color

In Infinity War, he was badass, he was a soldier of fortune, he was on a mission of revenge.
