I always felt this was the “misuse of religion, by politicians” condemnation
That’s really what I get from this too.
It is that and a bit of the Catholic selling indulgences and pastors making a profit off of selling religion.
@@blodhthringa I’m right there with ya on your analysis. However, I also add the televangelists with this as well. Those who are literally trying to sell Christ.
@@blodhthringa pastor should be paid for their work just like everyone else. However the majority of pastors are poor
@@keith8913 oh for sure! They definitely should. Maybe I should saying getting rich off of religion.
Saw these guys open for Chevelle, crazy good live.
Always felt that this wasn’t a stab at Jesus, but at people who misuse his name for power or worldly gain.
I saw them with chevelle and disturbed!
This exactly. In that same album, they discuss how religion has affected family, but also how important it can be for finding purpose and value in life. The songs Jenny and God Went North are particularly noteworthy and are two of my favorite songs ever. They aren’t Christians, but I think they do respect authentic Christians, and are just frustrated with the politicization and over-monetization of all religion and the use of religion as an excuse to abuse and manipulate others.
To think you know who goes to heaven
Is just one big misconception
Like god hates fags and communism
Create fear to feed the system... feed the system
This is the problem. They only know the Jesus that CNN tells them. They put the most wretched vile examples of Christians on TV for unbelievers to hate.
Lose our hearts and breed division
Oh my god why can't we wake up... wake up
34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person's enemies will be those of his own household.
Real Christians have to sit back and watch while people drag our names through the mud.
Nothing more fade in fade out is my personal favorite and I think the 2 of you would enjoy it
I have always interpreted this song as the leaders of the world/powers that be, are always keen on using religion(Christianity) as a means to force or manipulate the people into giving them their life. I have never thought this song was a negative towards religion as there is a point where he said "And it's not alright" as far as "Selling Heaven".
I absolutely love Nothing More, they are one of my favorite bands.
You need to check out God Went North
I agree, definitely check out God Went North
I think their song God Went North would make a great reaction for you guys. I'd love to see your breakdown and response to it
I definitely 2nd that!
Likewise
Such a good song, but man is it hard for me to listen to.
For sure!
I agree I would love to see him react to this
The Song "Jenny" By Nothingmore is a far better Introduction to the band and the song has a powerful personal meaning behind it. You two would definitely like it.
Yes this. Also I'd love them to do God Went North
Jenny was the first NM song I heard from them. They play a lot of their stuff on Octane so I’m very familiar with them.
@@ShepardKammander God went north hits hard at the end
Yep
Also Fade In/Fade Out
That song is incredible.
I’ve seen them twice in concert. They put on one of the best shows I’ve ever seen! They are incredible.
Just saw them open for In This Moment and you are so right!!
@@danflak2370 I’ve seen in this moment about 4 or 5 times and they put on a great show too!!
This is one of my FAVORITE bands, and I'm so glad to see y'all react to it! I truly love y'all's content and I've been hoping to see y'all react to a Nothing More song for a while. I am a young Christ follower who is about to start highschool, and y'all's content encourages me to not be ashamed of my God!
Also this song isn’t a attack on religion by anything like that, similar to the MIW song from last week, lyrically the song is a message of how religion can be weaponized by the wrong hands. If that makes sense.
The singer's explanation says otherwise.
@@timdarnell7819 source?
@@UHAMUSIC the singer lol
@@timdarnell7819 fell it still goes both ways but I lean on the fact you got alot of false teachers out there
I agree with you Pringles…the singer (Johnny Hawkins) is a Christian who sees the world as it’s becoming…a dark and twisted place where God is being used in so many sac religious ways that this song is a warning to wake up and not listen to the political and bad religious leaders…and think more for ourselves on who we’re going to listen to instead of being machines…I heard Johnny talk about this song live at a festival last weekend and he said “this song is a warning. that we need to find the light in ourselves and be careful who we listen to so we don’t become machines.”
I would really like to hear your reaction on "Hey John, What's Your Name Again?" by The Devil Wears Prada. They were one of the first bands that got me into the Christian metalcore scene
Up
Love yall, love the videos! Glad to see you all back and extremely happy to things are getting better for your family! God bless you and your family!
Pastor Rob, I would really appreciate clarification. I have always been confused about the finding the truth within argument. I think everyone interprets the bible from their own way and I think that is why there are many variations of religion. On a societal scale I think that our interpretation of politics and ethics aligns our personal views of the world. No 2 Christians think exactly alike because God crested them in his separate image. Their interpretation must be found within themselves using the senses that God has provided them with rather than living life a certain way because they are told to do so based on another person's perspective/interpretation. I really respect your perspective and I enjoy hearing your talking points. You have opened my mind to a lot of things on this channel and I really appreciate that.
On an unrelated note Dayseeker - Hollow Shell is a very pro Christian song that I think you will love.
More Nothing More reactions would be fantastic! I'd recommend Jenny (incredibly raw and emotional), God Went North (interesting religious discussions to be had), or Fade In/Fade Out (a song about father/son relationship).
I think your first interpretation is right. The whole "They've got your Christ on copyright," would indicate an idea that "our Christ (interpretation) is the only correct one, we have the copyright."
Then think of all the Olsteens of the world and you get to where they seem to be coming from. "They're selling Heaven tonight," seems to back up that angle, imo.
Listening to you read Jonny’s quote and hearing you say “he’s against people claiming they have the truth, while claiming he has the truth”. While this a totally understandable interpretation, and I genuinely see where you’re coming from… he never once claims he has the truth. This is usually where the disconnect lies between Christians and non-Christians! It’s mind-boggling to me when I hear friends or family say that I pretend I know the truth (my beliefs are nearly the same as his), while speaking against theirs. The thing is…I’m not. Its just that I’m secure in my not knowing. A lot of us non-Christians (not all, of course) never pretend we have a single clue what the answers are. We simply know right from wrong.
In my experience, many Christians (not all) get upset and defensive when you state your beliefs- and it’s not because we’re questioning theirs we’re just speaking confidently about our own- because it makes them think about things that contradict their religion and, if truly considered in the absence of defensiveness and ego, would flip their world on its axis.
Now on a more personal note, most of my experiences with Christians (having grown up as one in a Baptist church) have been made up of nothing but double standards, judgment, and people looking outwards rather than within. Of course, not all Christians!
Plz, keep doin what you're doing, guys!! Great Work.
❤🙏🎶
This band has a very powerful song called fade in/fade out. It very well could put a tear in your eye.
I believe what Hawkins is referring to in the quote about the truth is within us all isn’t about them having the truth and to listen to them, it may be that you can find your own truth without influence of others because you were given that ability
Pastor Rob may you react you Bad omens: Mercy? It’s another song with lyrics tied to questions about religion and I’d absolutely love to hear your thoughts on it. Here’s a segment from the song, in the second verse:
“To a rat in a maze, the end is where the start begins
But if we made it out, I know that we would do it all again
We live and die in vain like treasure on a sinking ship
All in the name of a God, we'd just abandon and forget”

I love Nothing More! They’re one of my favourites and I’d love to see a reaction of their songs God Went North and Spirits…I think you guys would really enjoy them!
Great reaction as usual! I love the point you made about the contradiction he made in the quote, I've never thought about it that way whenever people say that. It actually made me think.
Thank you guys for reacting to this song. I love Nothing More for a few years now and I really wanted this breakdown of this song. Wish you guys would play some more from them. “God went north” is a good one!
I think they’d love to react to God Went North or Spirits
I for one love what you guys do. I am a metal head t and it has been frowned uponr most of my life. Growing
Up my parents hated it. They didn't understand the feelings I was having and that this music helped me cope with that. Keep up the good work boys.
By far my favorite band. Would love to see more reactions of them from you guys! 🙏
Hey pastor Rob I absolutely love your content I'm not a Christian myself but I really enjoy seeing your views on the songs and topics! I would really enjoy to see a reaction to the song ...and justice for all or Dyer's eve!
You gotta check out some more of phinehas. I am the lion, fleshkiller, and eternally apart are all amazing songs by them
Like others suggested if you dive down the nothing more hole “Jenny” “fade in fade out” and “god went north”
11:50 - Right on! It is a standard, it is not totally defined, there is so much unknown, and so many stories left out of the bible. With all that, Jesus is still the best moral compass to follow.
LOVE nothing more and this song. Excited to hear your thoughts
Wow, you reacted to the song I wanted you to react to even though I didn't suggest it 😂. So glad you guys are back! Also I would love to see a reaction to Gemini Syndrome Basement if you guys ever get the time.
Up
Love nothing more! I also agree with your breakdown of the one of the songs I haven't included in my playlist for the reasons you stated. There's also far more music from them that you guys would appreciate. God Went North, Jenny, Who We Are, ect. Definitely one of my favorite vocalist sounds in the hard rock industry
Really nice reaction! I really enjoy hearing your interpretations of the songs and their meaning a lot!
I think you two should check out both Thrown Into The Fire and The Revanchist by Trivium at some point. Both songs are really good, and I would love to see what you make of them!
Keep up with the great reactions, love watching them!
Great vid as usual! You all should react to Not I by Demon Hunter! If you don't want to react to that song, any older Demon Hunter.
Yes! Check their new stuff guys!
Yes, God Went North. Do it!
That high register's are amazing! But well said Ptr.
Given Up by Linkin Park- I recently tried to kill myself and I am currently getting help but I found it hard to explain what I was feeling and I think this song does a good job of explaining it
Just to lead off, I'm not a shill for the band. I appreciate how you guys vibe with the creative aspects of the music... these guys obviously come from a certain walk of life... there's no way you can identify with what the singer is saying, hell I barely can! While I do believe in God and the afterlife, make no mistake none of us have any idea what comes after this life, regardless of the faith you have. I just wish people would stop judging each other by the way they live and the way they think they look to other people.
there is very truth in religon when it comes to these outdated rules.
You guys gotta do Fade In/Fade out , Mr MTV , Jenny and Go To War by Them.
Still requesting Eulogy by TOOL for years,,, also I was wondering if you have any of your sermons streaming on another platform or channel??
House of Sand- Nothing More
I got you guys.
Trust Me!!!
Great reaction guys, I would love to see you guys break down Jenny by Nothing More, it is a totally different type of song
Guys it would be awesome if you two would react to Joy Division! The lyrics are amazing, quite deep themes, profound lyrics.
Love u bros!!!!
They are NOT attacking Christianity. The band is Christian and are saying that the government has manipulated it out of what it should be. This is a message to listeners that the government or people in power don’t always have it right when it come to religion.
Weird talking about 2014 like its ancient history, always appreciate your openness and discussion!
I think Popular Monster by Falling in Reverse would be good for you to react to. It deals with PTSD and depression and the loneliness. I do think giving a biblical perspective to the songs lyrics might be a good help.
This is definitely where my age is showing, 70s, 80s, and even 90s rock will never be matched!👨🏻🦳🤘🏼
we should hold religon accountable. and religon is a tool for love. not money for follow like sheep .
Vocals kind of reminded me of Coheed and Cambria.
The lead singer Jonny Hawkins grew up in a fundamentalist Christian household and left the faith. But he also seems to be anti-leftist which is not a combo you see too often. He is one of the few modern rockstars who is openly anti our current government. Anyway, that’s just some background.
DEFINITELY you should check out “God Went North.” It’s about him being bedside at his dying mother’s deathbed, and watching her transition into the afterlife, and holding onto her faith as she does it, even though he doesn’t believe anymore. It’s a heart-breaking song, but amazing.
Yeah, back when I knew him, he was still a Christian. Their much older songs have a different tone to the lyrics.
God Went North is a beautiful song and a tearjerker for me.
i love this song!
"It's absolutely true that there's no absolute truth".🤣
*Shadows Fall:* The Power Of I and I.
Please do their songs "Jenny" and "This is the Time."
I think you guys should listen to God Went North. I would love to hear your thoughts.
It’s about politicians using religion to force their agenda. Also the line “sign the bottom line” is a phrase synonymous with joining the military. Religious political people force over the top patriotism on their followers and serving your country is less of a choice and more of an obligation because of the societal norms in their community.
Nothing more - god went north is another good song to look check out.
Once you know the back story of why that song was written, it makes so much more sense. Revivals headlined by popular evangelicals selling healing ultimately. The back story to this song is very important.
You're new to NOTHING MORE
Let Me guide YOU
MAGNIFICENT!
they aren't saying they are the ones with the truth. they are telling people to look for the truth themselves instead of having someone else give you their own version of the truth. (at least that's what i understand).
God Went North and Jenny are two songs of them that I’d love to see you react to.
I just came across Nothing More recently with their new release "Spirits". It is a pretty catchy tune so I looked into the band. Their website has a personality test based on the combination of the zodiac and current science research. Trippy...
Never heard of this group before, not really my style but I enjoyed your breakdown of the lyrics as always. And as always I have to request you two check out Bloody Angel by Avatar. Wish you both the best.
Dude heck yes they need to do avatar
I’m a Christian, but this is one of my favorite bands. Jonny has a major problem with government(government overreach) and religion. His mom was a devout Christian and he feels like God abandoned her to suffer and die with cancer(see their song“God went North”) Jonny also went to healing revivals with her and he got a bad taste in his mouth from whoever the evangelist was. Plus, his mom gave a money to this evangelist. He believed it was all a big scam.
Thats how he sounds in person. The exact same.
The quote by the band about the song was not hypocritical as you may think. They never intended it to be taken as "we are right you are wrong" they simply wanted to encourage people to think freely and decide for themselves how to live. Not to let leaders, be they religious or political, decide who you are and what you will become. The quote is showing that only you yourself know your truth, not others and they should not decide for you. It's a statement on the philosophy of Individualism. The song itself is more about people abusing religion for their own personal gain, Johnny, the lead singer and writer of the songs, grew up in a strict religious household and his mother died when he was still young and was very religious. They made a song thats for more supportive called God Went North, it is about how his mother who died of cancer and him comforting her and praying for God to end her suffering, thats right he prays. He's not a firm believer but even he prayed in that moment.
"Behold the Crown" or "Lost in the Static" by After the Burial (either will blow Pastor Rob’s mind) and "Deceiver" or "Out if Control" by The Ghost Inside
Diamonds to dust... plight of the wicked
God Went North is a song that better gives a perspective into why exactly he feels the way he does about God. Highly recommend checking that one out
Fun song. Obviously it starts sarcastically, but it keeps up with these commands like "create fear to feed the system", which it doesn't really make obviously clear, so I can't tell whose voice they're actually in. Is it intentionally confusing? To answer the main question, this kind of thing is why we can't wake up. Because this song is exactly like its bridge says: tuned into two stations simultaneously, trying to frantically convince itself it's not radio controlled. Though in my experience, this sort of interference usually means they must be going somewhere far away. Which station got louder with these guys, I wonder? Also, would they be okay not getting paid for their song, if they are so against copyright?
Nothing Mores new stuff, Spirits album needs to be visited. Would love to see what you guys think. I think Nothing More spiritual core has developed greatly since 14'
Guy I really really hope you guys could look up nothing mores fade in/fade out.. I guarantee it would bring tears to your eyes
Got some song suggestions for you guys!!
Phinehas - Eternally Apart
War of Ages - Final Act
Killswitch Engage - Reject Yourself
React to Kiss the Go Goat by Ghost Or Leave it all Behind by Sleeping with Sirens!!!
I don't know if they're religious, but they also have songs called God Went North and The Matthew Effect.
Amen, Jesus is THE Way, THE Truth and THE Life!
The absolute craziest thing! So as I was commenting on your guys review of Moitionless in White when you released it. I said, hmm... As much as I loved metal and such I winder how come they don't cover some other rock with indictitive type titles despite lyrics being fairly clear?
Just then One of my other favorites, Nothing More came on and it was Christ Copyright. I was like, yea, like THIS! Said I was going to suggest it but then assumed nah, they won't even see the comment so it'd be pointless.
Fast forward a week or so and BOOM you're covering it. Crazy
I really like the fact that you pointed out that they are saying a similar version of the same thing that they are against. I love Nothing More, I will say it’s funny that they also claim to have the “truth.” But, in defense of the band and their statement, the idea of “truth” coming from within could also be a defense FOR everyday Christians (or whatever people believe), like us. It’s almost supportive-ish in a way. I don’t know. Anywho! Great video as always!
Love Nothing More! Music and vocals are always on point! And their message is always well thought out. I like that they don't feel that they need to push a lot of vulgarity to get their thoughts across!
Nothing More is such a great band! Their lyrics can be pretty new-agey and stupid at times, but they are seriously awesome musicians. Can't wait for their upcoming album in October!
Definitely react to god went north by nothing more. Would love your take on it
Hey just a heads up, he references god on a good bit of tracks on this album. Would be great if you guys jumped bk into this band and reacted with breakdowns of what you think he's talking about. Kinda curious myself even though I've listened to the album over and over again. Obviously fan of the band. Honestly appreciate the breakdowns that you guys do!
It's about monetizing, commercializing, and politicizing Christ and taking the spirituality out, making Him a commodity for people to profit from.
I love how they're kind of taking the piss out of themselves with a thumbnail it's great
Lol. Our thumbnails are always actual screen shots from the video rather than posing for the camera as some do. Makes it more authentic I think.
God went North by this band would be amazing for your all to react to
Please react to "son of the morning" followed by "the finisher" from the band Oh Sleeper.
Architects - gone with the wind. Written by their guitarist that died of cancer. Or their song... Nihilist
I've always read it as the first, more kind interpretation of it. I think some of their newest tracks put it more into context
God Went North and Fade in Fade Out are also both very deep and heavy songs
these social norms are outdated to be born again or follow blindly .its about following their own and to empower people to not be limited to a book that is like greek religon at this point.
Can you listen to demolisher by slaughter to prevail. It's one of my favorites.
@Robert houghton you should listen to nothing more’s song God went North it is a heart felt song
Can yall do Nirvana- jesus don't want me for a sunbeam. Please
Haven't heard these guys before but this is pretty sweet
I know most of the time you do videos of Metal songs that usually go against the faith but I would like to see more Christian Metal reviews. Can you please do a reaction of Haste the Day's song American Love?
Where can I get that Jesus Wept tshirt at?
Love the channel guys, if you get a chance check out the band Pain. I think you would Enjoy them, especially the song called on and on. Keep the great videos coming!
