    I have a lot of watches, including a few really nice looking dress watches, but this is the watch I wear to work every day. I drive a delivery truck and handle a lot of heavy parcels. I kinda beat this watch up a lot but it’s still in great shape. And every day I enjoy seeing how exactly in synch it is with the atomic wall clock at work. I use this to set the time on all my other watches. I love it.

    I have the older non-U model with the blue EL backlight. I've been using it daily for hard, dirty manual labor work for about two years and it still works perfectly. It has some scuffs and scratches but that's all. It has never even dipped below High on the charge indicator. Years of super accurate time and date in all conditions day and night with no maintenace.

    Great no BS review. These upgraded G-shock "U" modules are outstanding. The auto light and sharper, higher contrast LCD display (with thicker text) make it viewable from any angle or light conditions (in stark contrast to the 🌽negative displays). I have a GW5000U-1JF and it is a perfect, non-mechanical watch. Speaking for myself, that GW5000 and a Sinn 104 I St Sa would be a perfect two-watch collection. Two outstanding tool watches: one solar atomic Digi and one well-engineered automatic mechanical.

      @@Realidealgear lol, I was gonna end my comment by saying "thanks for taking the time" but opted for "posting" instead bc I thought it was too unintentionally punny! Thanks for replying. Man, I have no irons in the fire, but srsly: get a GW5000U. Yes, it cost 2x as much as the 5600u, everything is just more premium; the band is softer & more supple, I really like the polished SS laser etched caseback and steel core - makes it feel like a proper watch with a bit of heft. But, sort of a double edged blade: I still rock the OG 5600E when I'm going do be out in "it" bc I wanna keep the GW5000 'nice'-ish for daily wear. 🤷🏼
      🤔 Sorta defeats the purpose. The 5610U is a happy medium I suppose. That and I really like the vintage red line encircling the face. Matter of fact, I'm navigating over to amzn to look for a deal I think. Man can't have too many G-shock squares. If that's wrong, I don't wanna be right.

    Another great review, Tim, that puts the watches through their paces. Certainly for folk outside the US, this U model had a helpful addition, in that the date format can be swapped, so that Christmas, for instance, can be shown as 25.12 in the upper right display. In addition to this, if the watch is being used for different functions, for example the stopwatch or countdown timer, then the current time will always be in that top right window. The version before the U one did not have this feature. The LED light replaced the Electro Luminescence (EL) which disappointed some people, but apparently, the LED will last longer and put less of a drain on the battery, according to Casio. I am definitely getting one of these. In the past, I have put the wrong date on a paperwork and that is annoying, haha.

    • @Realidealgear
      @Realidealgear  4 місяці тому

      This version of the square seems to be as bullet proof as you can get and the updates are excellent. I prefer this light to the EL on the earlier model. The light to some, might appear to be an EL...excellent LED coverage. Have a great Easter weekend.

    One month ago when I was gonna buy a G-Shock tough solar watch, the G-Shock salesperson recommended me a cuter, more legible screen of a new Protrek after seeing my squinting my eyes on the smaller G-Shock digits and knowing I wanted the triple sensors. I bought the G-Shock GW-9400 Rangeman because of the better buttons. My old Protrek plastic/resin button kinda get stiffer over time especially the light button (maybe dirt inside). Plus, the G-Shock is built tough.

    • @Realidealgear

      There's no denying the G-shock toughness. I don't think the other models from which the G-shocks are derived are significantly vulnerable to what most people would consider rough use. I like the Rangeman model a lot. I have too many Casios! Time to start giving them away.

If you're looking for a more work oriented watch and the digital display is more important, Square (I'd also recommend the tough solar and atomic time keeping...low maintenance and high accuracy). I've pasted my review on the CasiOak discussing the different take this watch has on G-Shock style watches.
      I'd go square if you don't already have one. CasiOak a close second because it's a little more focused on aesthetics than on function.

    I took a very small, mini flat head screw driver and heated it up to melt a hole in the strap so that mine could fit me appropriately. I had that same issue. It feels great now.

      Excellent idea! All my Casio's have the same interval between holes...I might make one of the holes that fits snug, a little bigger and see if that creates a sweet spot for adjustments. Thank you for watching! (it's still funny to to say that!)

    I have the negative Display Bluetooth version which is full of features but it doesn’t get much wrist time because of desplaiy

      I've always been hesitant of negative displays because the contrast doesn't seem high enough for my tired eyes. It's great to have backups!

      Yes. The negative displayodels look cool to observers, but they simply are not readable when outside in the sun. Hence, you have a neat, quirky plastic bracelet. My GW5000U-1JF with the upgraded positive LCD is simply outstanding and easy to view from any angle, any light (or dark) conditions.

    Is there a Difference between the GW-M5610U-1ER and GW-M5610U-1J?? I heard the Japan version is smaller? Is this true?

    • @Realidealgear
      @Realidealgear  Рік тому +1

      My understanding is that there's no difference in size but that the suffixes denote the market to which a watch is shipped. (ER = Europe; J= Japan)...and that can affect warranty depending on the owner's location ("J" model not purchased in Japan).

      Best G-Shock for the money, because it includes solar charging and MB6. Casio has all sorts of watches with these features, look for Waveceptor, Edifice, Lineage and Oceanus lines. I bet you can safely split wood with those on too.
