It was nice of Metallica to join Cliff's concert
HAHA LOL yes i agree
Very kind of them
no its very nice of cliff to join metallica
Is what wooshable?
@@13_cmi I Think so lol
Cliff could fight off 1000 demons with that opening solo.
Holden Cross or summon them
@@zak_atak I like it your way..
@@zak_atak Your name is also Zak and you also like Metallica? Damn it's a small world.
*Can confirm was the 1,001 demon present the rest are dead*
Can confirm. Cliff's death was just his recruiting to become the new doomslayer.
Cliff Burton - For Whom The Bell Tolls ft. Metallica
Ha
Right*
😂
he was a one man show ha
Nope .
Whenever Cliff made improvisation as he liked, James just went along. That’s how much James respect him.
James (and, Lars) moved from SoCal to El Cerrito just so Cliff would join the band. THAT is how much Lars & James respected Cliff.
@@leifkemp And Dave.
Cliff was only on 3 albums, but left such a lasting impression not just on Metallica but on Metal in general.
It was also sad they took it out on Jason Newsted. No bass on And Justice For All.
Audio: Crappy
Me and everyone else: I don't care, Cliff is on the screen.
The crappy audio is what makes it so good.
Regardless of the audio issues, this is my favorite performance of For Whom The Bell Tolls. I've kept it on my watch later list for months, just so I can watch it over and over again.
Cliff Burton is on bass like Hendrix on Guitar, like Bruce lee in martial arts, Babe Ruth in Baseball ... a Genius!
I hear nothing but distortion
Page not Hendrix
@@ibelieveyourlies1984 except he couldn't write an original song for his life
Didnt he even play backwards like hendrix?
Amadeus2248 go check your ears bud
2:55 I see the smoke. It's just Cliff's fingers shred the G string
Frank Woods ha G string
D string also
watching cliff headbang is magical
Like a mystical jellyfish
At 3:07 James wonders if he remembered to lock his door
Nah he got a shock from Cliff
Lol
Hope that bass was 18 😮
LOL
He fingered the fuck out of it 🥵
Was 22
Caus Burton fucked it very well 🔥
Yeah,'Coz he Sho F%*ked it,didn't he?
No one has been able to surpass that bass solo .
R.I.P Cliff you were ahead of time.
Only Cliff himself can, on the video from his 2nd night whith MetallicA

I would seriously put Cliff up there with the likes of Geddy Lee and John Entwistle, Jack Bruce etc. He brought something that was unique and new and couldnt be duplicated. He plays that base like its a fucking guitar but he still lays down such good bottom end.
David *bass
Don't forget flea
But you're right
You know how good he would be today. With his tone and everything else perfected?
Defiinitely. He would have them beat to shit also if he didn't die.
kvd tube claypool is better than flea
3:00 Cliff made that bass scream for mercy!
The sounds of 30 years ago are better than today
ABSOMOTHERFUCKINGLOUTELY!!!!
Agreed
Giulio Saglibene nah
yes
Better than today.. look I’m 17 and I can tell you this is about 700 quadrillion times better than fucking today... for those born in a time where this was available live.. cherish it, believe me!
R.I.P. Cliff Burton
(1962-1986)
Cliff Burton = musical perfection!!!!
Take a drink every time someone flips their hair back
drew pearson cliffs flips his hair back 100 times every second :(
I would be dead within 30 seconds

Did that..... I'm wasted.....
I'm dead but I had fun doing it.
I'm deaf in my left ear and blind in my right eye because of this video. I think I have watched it over a thousand times.I just can;t pass it up...
He died at least 200 years too early.

I’m one of the few left who actually saw him live. Memphis, Tn., Mid South Coliseum, Master of Puppets Tour, opening up for Ozzy. He was just as special as you would expect…
3:08 James was like "Da faq cliff bro how do u do dat???"
tallica fan i never noticed that until now, but it's fucking hilarious.
LMFAO he looked at him like oh um........ I failed
Lmao
I think he's like: dude....Are You stealing my attention :/?

I was at this Concert .... Thank goodness I saw Cliff live .... even if it was very late on this hot day ..... After that Venom played .... R.I.P...Cliff am All
best show ever with cliff? i mean better than day on the green show?
This shits amazing...totally captures the feel of the vibe back then...
I remember
Imagine this: someone who went to this concert witnessed one the best bassists to ever walk the earth... magical
6:17 if you want to see Kirk’s junk.
If you did NOT want to see Kirk’s junk, then I formally apologize.
Thanks bud
Cliff's playing got him hard.
Yesn’t
Why did I click that
Billy Brown cause ur gay man
i have seen a lot of good bass players over the last 30 years but for me it is a fact that cliff burton was the only one who ever played real bass solos , others maybe are fast or have great techniques but nobody has that feeling he had
I still suggest looking up Billy Sheehan tho
Now serious question here. Can someone please explain how Cliff's fingers had lightning???
Teriz Shaw he’s a God more like
Kirks fingers also have lightning at 3:40
Static electricity I'd assume. Or something like that
He threw the lightning. It's up to all of us to ride it.
Because he was riding the lighting

I don’t know why, but watching this video made me very, very emotional. I’m only 15 so I was never alive when Cliff was but I miss him. I realize how skilled he was and how much passion he had for Metallica. I love rob and I love Jason but damn, Cliff I wish like hell I were still here!! It’s crazy to think how much better he could have became over the years. He is 100% one of the greats and his legacy will live on forever!!🤘
Cliff Burton was one of the best bassplayers on earth!! R.I.P. Cliff
history*
1:01 Cliff winds up for one of the most epic bends in music history
And that's why cliff Burton always ranks in the top 10 bassists of all time!!!!!! That solos insane, I've tried to copy it but it's fukin hard!!!!!!
2020..Metallica needs and misses you Cliff.
2.54. When you take your own rhythm to the next level. The best bassist ever.. The true soul of metallica.
i still find it hard to believe this is only a year before cliff died and that he never got to live through metallica’s peak so unfair
for me metallica metal songs peaked with master of puppet album realese with AJFA on a similar level, he lived and performed insane songs like battery, master of puppet and disposible hero, still sad
Math B i agree i don’t listen to anything post black album and i find some of the writing on the black album a bit lazy/repetitive everything before it i love though
Math B also when i say peak i mean their commercial popularity e.g he didn’t get to play moscow ‘91 or seattle ‘89
best bassist of the world
Look up claypool
Birk Ganze if cliff didn’t die.. I reckon he would be the best but god had other plans
@@braddecoster7988 cliff didn't die God wanted to learn bass
couldn't agree more
cliff makes bass playing look so fun i bought a bass couldnt make it fart rip bass man.
Cliff "Amazing Bass" Burton. What a tragic loss. Metallica never was the same. I can't see Metallica putting out some of the crap,,, yes I said crap they did if The Master Of The 4 String Mutha was still around. You are greatly missed my friend & may you Rock In Peace !!!! I just feel fortunate to have the privilege to see you perform live. What a show you put on brother,,,,, what a show !!!!
John Anderson well cliff liked classical and country so we really don't know
Never in my life have I seen a man play a bass guitar like that the man was a fucking genius and is sorely missed rest in peace Cliff 🤘
JIMI HENDRIX of the BASS GUITAR!!!
Thats no bass guitar its Bass
If I had a time machine...
Pit stop 89 Seattle
Hey guys don't go on that bus!
Cliff era real metallica thrash no cliff no thrash .
And justice for all was a thrash album.
Cliff would've easily become the most popular member of Metallica if he hadn't died. He easily would've eclipsed James. Heck, look how popular he is even now, 3 decades after his passing. Seriously, look at this man's aura and stage presence. Badass!
bass player cant play guitar
cliff: hold my beer
@@cleanwindow_7869 I believe that.
To go back in time to see Metallica in their prime would be awesome. Set the Flux Capacitor back to the 1980's.
What a crowd! They know the song! Given its early days
1:02 that bend right there that’s when the tears started fallin
*sniff* Beautiful.
His face the sound the bend the way his hair flipped around perfectly! Cliff was such a legend!
Cliff,Cliff,Cliff, Cliff...
How can a professional like this have left us so early !!!

@@michaelgarbush2784 Forgot about that Original Fact,I don't know about better, but
Agree with the reason why he
Left
And there's Lars. Rushing. Like always.
At least he’s not playing the strange fills every bar and a half like he does now
@@kiltymacbagpipe when I saw them last March, he just seemed to fill everything with snare pounding.
Lars would get stage fright while playing back then so he would play faster and the rest of the band would have to keep up with him
@@goldenwolf2462 That's been the fight for drummers since the dawn of time. Gotta overcome the rush.
Cliff is the only bass player that makes guitars look easy
Only time I saw Metallica was on their Master of Puppets tour...guess things were meant to be a certain way. One of the best shows I have seen, thanks for that Cliff!! Definitely lucky to have witnessed his work live. He was gone a few weeks later...Still SMDH...
The awesome thing with Cliff is that he came from a loving and support home with 2 married parents who put him into lessons, supported his dream for music and asked his parents to support him for a year during their first album and they DID. Just imagine all the other talented musical kids out there who dont have that support
I love how all you can hear is the drums
What a glorious time for rock-n-roll. For music, period!! So much fun, and very special. It felt like it was our music, and nobody else's, and we wouldn't have it any other way!
Sometimes i wish i was born in 1970. 🤘🏻
I always wish that.
8/7/70 Baby here 50 years young and still love it. Just wish I could remember most of those shows. Damn awesome teen years
We are so lucky to have this footage
Awesome. Cliff is majestic on that bass! Lars plays the song perfect... who else is binging on old Tallica vids!!!
Burton was OK playing the songs, nothing out of this world, but where he shined was in soloing and composing the songs. He was formally educated in music, he loved Bach, and was a pioneer in making the bass not just a supporting instrument but also deserving of the spotlight. He also had great stage presence. He was only 24 when he died and accomplished more than most people do in a lifetime.
Love it! The good old days :)
Every time I hear a bell ring I think of Cliff miss you buddy RIP. This is an Anthem for the world. Long live Metallica!!!!🤘👍👏🎸
Man to think people were jamming to this song almost 40 years ago. Here to this day, 35 years later, doing that air drum solo!
You know it’s gonna be good as soon as you see those white high tops take the stage. Nothing says thrash metal like white high tops and denim
Cliff WAS Metallica. After he died they were never the same.
I love Cliff but Metallicas best album doesnt even have a bass so your argument is invalid
@@FF-oo8nz It's not about the bass, it's about the creativity he brought to the band. Metallica lost their way after he died. All that 90s crap would've never happened if Cliff was alive.
@@jacklambert1521 i agree that 90s Metallica is poor but AJFA proves my point. Hetfield is undisputedly the driving creative force of Metallica and yes they got crap in the 90s but who says that with Cliff there that wouldnt happen? In the 90s thrash was dead and Metallica tried to adapt
Its a shame that METALLICA now is playing every night in small clubs and livin in dirty Vans since Cliff dies
Don’t understand people who say metallica sucked after cliff.
Load and Reload were good, or at least good for me. But yeah, they were never the same.
Wow. Didn't think this even existed . Know solo was cut but full song of Bells. That's gold
I love how Cliff used distortion on his bass.
Well it was a wah wah but yeah

Fun fact. Cliff actually played every Metallica solo ever.
Cliff is my idol... Best bassist ever...
Back when the bass was louder than the guitars. The good ol days.
*sad Jason Newsted noises*
Bass or Lead gitar.Amazing ,Natural talent
MrRobert950 Natural talent? Fuck off. He didn't "practice" that much just so people would call it natural talent. To me, natural talent are those Asian kids that grabbed a guitar and in like a year can play what the best of the best play. Xd don't take me too seriously.
@@cuickoo1085 And even farther . You know something special about Asian culture? It is that if they do smth they fucking master it to perfection . So if some kid starts to play guitar he always practice 24 /7 and if he fails he is a big disgrace and they beat em up with a fucking bamboo whiplash.
Nope, 6 hours of practise every day.
The Cliff Burton version of For Whom The Bell Tolls is the greatest Metallica song ever, but I am being biased because it is my favorite recorded Metallica song.
I like that you can see James run past Cliff in the background to play For Whom The Bell Tolls.
Cliff Burton - the Jimi Hendricks of bass guitars.
No. He is better.
did Kirk drop the pick at the end? best metallica bass song
Actually yes he did drop his pick lol
Check out the live versions of call of ktulu (particulary the 84 one)
Cliff, James, Dave. .. What a great time ! !!
There is no doubt in hell that no one else could figure out this song intro as Cliff did, he owns the fucking song!
In the beginning that shit sounded like thunder, thats badass
great master Burton!
All the best musicians seem to leave so soon. Kirk in a different video: it could have been me but it couldn’t have been me.
Bassgasm 🤘
1:50 Cliff destroyed an amp 😂
Seriously wtf was he playing there
Its the wah
@@jimmyneutron8682 of course it is but I mean you can’t even hear a note because of the feedback
blame the sound guys. they didn't reduce the distortion up front... cliff got feedback but not cause of what he was playing, he was playing some fast notes on the e string, which should not of caused him feedback .. the sound guys were not watching his distortion levels ... he's using distortion, wah, delay, and a Morley power wah boost... but the sound crew did there job a few seconds later and reduced the bass levels therefore the feedback went away....cliff couldn't even hear the feedback with such a loud sound and crowd and all that....every band now live always uses those famous ear plugs.....back then metallica didn't
@@ArronP At one point the audio went really for a bit so yeah, def the sound guys
I remember this guy... man he was electric ... his energy non like any other... then he was gone... Jason you were no Cliff... but you were a perfect fill in....
