On the morning of Aug 31st, 1985, I was 15 years old and that morning my older stepbrother, who was going to the concert with 3 friends, told me one of them backed out and asked if I wanted to buy his ticket. I was a *huge* Metallica fan but I knew I couldn't miss my mom's annual birthday brunch with the family, so I declined. My mother somehow found out, bought the ticket for me and told me to have a good time. Up until then I'd only seen Eddie Money and The Little River Band in concert, so this concert just blew my freaking mind. - Thanks mom!

7:29 ,him screaming that in his old voice will forever be amazing to me that few seconds tell you everything you need to know about Metallica while Cliff was alive!
I got to see them in April of ‘86 at The Spectrum in Philly. Went to see Oz, but left a dedicated Metallica fan for life. I remember when they came on and just took over. The velocity of their live performance was nothing I’ve ever seen before. I remember after they finished, I went to the merch stand and bought my first Metallica t-shirt. Don’t get me wrong, Oz was phenomenal, but Metallica absolutely stole the show. I remember that weekend I bought “Master of Puppets”, “Ride the Lightning”, “Kill ‘Em All” and if memory serves me correctly, the “Jump In the Fire” picture disc. A revelation for a young 12 year old.
I try to imagine telling a club owner in their early 1981 days, "Please play this song when we come out, The Ecstasy of Gold". The owner's like "There are four people here at Greasy Tony's Pizza Palace and two are bartenders."
I miss thrash Metallica so much, long hair, no fucks given....but we all grow up, even our hero's..sucks but I can say Im so happy there still playing and james kirk and lars are all alive and healthy, RIP Cliff!

I was at this Day on the Green. Victory, Yngwie Malsteen, Metallica, Y&T, Ratt and the Scorpions. We were there to see Metallica. After the show we drove down to Santa Cruz and partied on the beach. Crashed in the back of my buddy's truck only to be woken up by the park rangers telling us we couldn't camp there. Not sure where we slept, but the next day we ended up at a college frat BBQ on the beach. They were pretty cool considering we were all long hair metal heads.

Best all in one. Youth, energy, unique style, something new, and that young Hetfield's voice.
