Barry Harris left this earth on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Rest in peace, and thanks for all the wonderful music. The jam session in Heaven will now swing a little harder.
Thanks so much for posting this as this is the first time I got to show my son a video of his grandfather Hal Dodson. Barry was the best mentor to my dad god bless him and Leroy was the nicest person on earth! Thanks for showing them at their PRIME
Barry was in top form playing Bud's "Oblivion" at a really brisk tempo. That's really great authentic bebop playing which only very few people have mastered. Hal Dodson was on bass and he's been with Barry for many years and of course Leroy always sounds great and he's been faithful to Barry for ages. Really wish to see more of this concert as Barry seems very inspired. Thanks a million!
Thanks to YOU! finally this wonderful trio is complete. I wasn't sure at all about the Bass player's name. Your Father is amazing and a great fount of inspiration. Keep in touch. Matt.
@@fryingwiththeantidote2486 I don't know about that quote or method from him.triplets and a couple of other rhythm packets make up the majority of be bop soloing by just about every player ever. And if it's "triplet feeling" that underlies a bluesy swing, and it does, then it makes sense to make some conscious decisions to play triplet patterns, or practice them anyway when you're working on tunes or playing over ii Vs or whatever.
Found'it. The only other song I got is the last one of that set (I believe) and it features Jimmy Slyde dancing on stage with the trio :) ...I'll post it soon.
thanks buddy, it was a very old tape, I will post more soon, but if I remember correctly I should have 1 or 2 songs more. I don't have the whole concert unfortunately. Barry Harris is GREAT.
Hi the Bassist is my dad - Harold Dodson
One of the great unsung heroes of jazz!
Great musician!!
We loved Hal. How are you?
Hi!!! Jill how are you, Leroy & Fam? How wonderful to hear from you! Hope you are well. L
Also saw him this year on Hulu’s Summer of Love playing with Hugh Masakela- great for his 3grandkids & family to see❣️

@chrisparks22
Thanks to you, I'm still looking for the other songs. I'll do my best. :)
@Vahayr Hal Datson is on bass.
I've just uploaded another song from that live at Umbria jazz. Hope you like it. Happy new year
Great post. I don't believe the bass player is Ron Carter. Besides the beard, it doesn't look like him to me...
@Vahayr
Hey buddy, the bass player should be Ron Carter, but I'm not 100% sure.
Thanks for watching.
Barry is the shit !!!!
He really is thinking about triplets, I can actually hear a difference between him and other musicians now
What do you mean thinking about triplets? Like that “think of 6 not 4 when soloing” thing he says often?
@@fryingwiththeantidote2486 watch his teaching videos... he mentions it here and there.
