I love this excerpt, so cool, a great example of musicianship and groove. Actually I have been listening to it more than once every day for a week or more. So deceptively simple and obvious, I have been trying to do the same (improvise this relaxed way on the Parkerian blues changes) for a long time now and it is not easy at all !!
That's fantastic ! King Lion telling his story Life and transmitting the genuine be-bop flame. One of the most emotionnal moment in my jazz life. Thank you so so so much for sharing Tomasz.
This is just too hot! Got that hard bebop laced with a slow blues… sweet! And who is that in the background breaking in at 9:09 singing, “In the mood for love,” Billie? Knocks me out!
Por favor!!! Es un maestro, cada frase que hace, las vueltas para atrás que tiene, como insiste. Sin duda un lenguaje único de la época, vigente hasta hoy.
@@JackNokeJazzCo The song is actually called passport blues. You can find it on spotify by barry harris or charlie parker. Else there is a video on youtube called passport by barry harris videos where he teaches the tune. Good luck!
Ah thanks man! Luckily I know the tune but it’s when he takes off afterwards and they’re still humming along. Obviously a solo. It’s mentioned at the top of here that it’s from his horn classes but I can’t find it sadly!
Barry Harris is the best living representative of that jazz language if i were interested in jazz i would listen to him and Bird Daily But though not quite as great a bebop pianist. Mike Longo has a superior method to anyone. throw away the metronome and check out Mike Longo 4 DVD or online series - on rhythmic nature of jazz there is no one since , that embodied the Bebop spirit of Diz and Bird Mike was a disciple of Diz and his method reflects his deep absorption of this language

So much to learn in just this one clip...sigh
school! one of the sickest, most generous moments in jazz education history on a C blues. thank you Barry!!!! thank you Thomasz!

This is his solo from horn classes.
Tomasz Białowolski thanks so much dude!
Have you got a link to a video of the horn master class or a Transcription/audio?

What's the substitution happening at the end of the phrase 5:40 - tritone sub 2-5?
C Eb7 Ab Db7
Jack Noke It's the turnaround back to the tonic of which is C7. The progression is mentioned above by OP.
Tomasz Białowolski Ah yes ok, a tritone 2-5 sub then because it's a blues in standard form isn't it?
Jack Noke you're right, it's the 1-6-2-5-1 turnaround all tritone subs, 1-b3-b6-b2-1. The b6 sounds major here, could also be a 7.
Notice something similar in 11:41 to 11:46, subtle but sweet.
wish that one guy would hush
10:43
I mean. Come on.
Does anyone have the link of the original song ?

What backing tracks are being used here ?
no backing tape. there is a rhythm section in the background
Backing tracks?? Man oh man, I was born in the wrong century.
they used to have real people way back then, imagine that
Hello sir, welcome to jazz, you are hearing fingers
