No matter how old a human gets, the brain will never forget music. The memories it holds, the dances we’ve learnt, and the instruments we play them on.
You’re so right about that! I’m reminded of a video I saw of old people in nursing homes with very advanced Alzheimer’s. They looked so alone and miserable, but when the staff and family members put earphones on them, and began playing their favorite music from decades past, they came alive! Swaying with the music, and mouthing the words, even. You could see the joy in their eyes. Powerful stuff! 🥲
@@Pondimus_Maximus Did this in person and can confirm. Gramps went from completely incoherent to recounting fond memories after listening to the Eagles, it's incredible to see.

Keep on drumming and strumming and hooting and tooting. Dad passed away two days ago. He was 93. He’d have loved this. Wish I found this a week ago so that I could have played it to him. He had dementia, we lost him in stages, but the main part of his personality persisted throughout. I admired him so much for making so much of what he had. I just know he’d have loved this. Not because they were old like he was but because these guys put down a solid beat.
So sorry❤️ Play it for him anyway even if you don’t think he can hear it. I believe that only our bodies die. I still talk to my dead husband, mother and father❤️❤️❤️They leave me signs.
Never is too late to learn something new or to go after dreams, and a simple chance is all it needs to make it happen, which is what your friend need at this moment, an encouragement to give itself a chance to become its best version, to be happy.
Never too late! I’m in my 40s and learned how to play the piano during the pandemic. I love it and am finally seeing the results from approx 15-30 mins of daily practice. Also started to learn a new language. These hobbies and interests keep the mind active and makes life more fun.
Music is really good for old people's brains. There's a video here on UA-cam of a >100 year old man who was basically completely unresponsive and quiet, but after putting on headphones and listening to music for a few minutes he was suddenly wide awake and lucid and able to have full-on conversations. The power of music is remarkable
If you go from the beginning to the end of the video, the tempo’s slowed quite a bit by the end, but that could be intentional. It’s a great video, and I’m happy for this family :]

Bass player here, also 66. Been wondering the same thing. A lot of musicians I've known for a long time are sitting down on their gigs now. I won't do it. Not yet!
This truly gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. For him to be that age and still in his element, doing what he loves. These are the absolute perfection of great memories that no one involved would ever forget.
You can see by the expression on his face that he still feels the drive and passion he had decades ago, though his joints and limbs have created a barrier to full expression, he still has the feeling. Super cool.
With my 42 I'm a late child. So when in 2020 my uncle passed away at the age of almost 95 it was up to me to empty his house. While I was doing that I enjoyed listening to all his old records of Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington and others. During this time I learnt to love that old jazz music even more than I did before. It was a pleasure for me to listen to you three having so much fun playing that beautiful old music together! Kind regards from Germany!❤
@@LizzyGiggles You know what's really funny? It was only yesterday evening before going to sleep that I thought: for the first time since I'm on UA-cam I'd really like to have a glass ball. I'd so much like to know what kind of people have left a like under my comment and why? Are most of them elderly people, do they have a connection to Germany? Or is there maybe anything else in what I've written that has touched some very personal spot in their hearts and brought back memories? For me the time in my uncle's house was particularly intense. Once I had closed the front door behind me and turned on the music it was like travelling back in time. Time is something funny. When you're dancing around in that beautiful old living room in the style of the 50s surrounded by all those old books, listening to Glenn Miller and looking at old black and white photographs the past really comes back to life again and feels more real than everything outside. Luckily I was not under pressure to sell that house and there was corona, so I really could take my time. So during that time, while everyone had to stay home and did not know what to do, I always knew exactly where to go...

I swear that the soul of a musician never dies. Even if people get old, they never lose that talent. I even saw an old lady on YT with alhziemiers who remembered how to play piano and played it flawlessly.
Amazing! This is somebody who was around when the drumset was first being invented, a drummer from the very first generation of drummers as we know them.... These videos are incredibly important to the craft, thank you!
True. His skills may have faded somewhat but the general understanding about the drum as a set of instruments and the way it was played back then is still visible.
These were the days Bill Ludwig created his foldable to stick in your pocket (while riding the street car) foot pedal and the “ low-boy” grew taller and became the indispensable “Hi-Hat” per Baby Dodds request.
You have got some REAL MUSICIANS here folks. The drummer keeping good time. I have 33 years to catch up with him. He keeps better time than I do. Great job fellas.

I like this! It is so true in most cases. I've been lifting weights since I was 19 and I'm 48 now and stronger now than I ever was. But I don't dare stop because I've seen that it's hard to get back on the horse once you're off. This inspires me to keep going at my hobbies and skills and also to start developing new ones to take into old age, God willing.
spot on - my mom asked me -when I was 13- if I would play the piano if she bought one and I said why not - and she said "you'll thank me later" and it is 60 years later !
Old people are great. They are like hidden jewels. If you ever get a chance to talk to one who is cognizant then you should ask them about the price of their first house and the earliest price of gas they remember and things like that. It's very interesting and rewarding. Even if they look different than they did forty years ago they are still people and enjoy a good chitchat.

Will do, David. Your family rocks, especially your Dad.

You know what's really funny?
