- An Ultimate Cab Ride and an inside view of the senior diesel locomotive 3100HP Alco WDM3A loco cab ride in LHF [Long Hood Front] mood crushing at full throttle hitting the maximum permissible speed with awesome chugging and honking sounds. Also captured the full control view the Loco, Loco pilot start from 0 KMPH and pull all the 8 nothes to 115 KMPH skipping small unscheduled stations and passing throgh like king as other trains gave croosing to this loco engaged with Express service and also use the dynamic braking to slow down at the caution.

About WDM3A Locomotive:-

The class WDM-3A is Indian Railways' workhorse diesel-electric locomotive. Since 1993, it has been manufactured in India by the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi. The model name stands for broad gauge (W), diesel (D), mixed traffic (M) engine. The WDM-3A is the most common diesel locomotive of Indian Railways. The WDM-3A is a later classification of earlier WDM-2C. These units have been retro-fitted with dual brakes, in addition to the air and vacuum brakes. The WDM-3A locos have a maximum speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). The gear ratio is 65:18.

It's too difficult to sit on one chair continue and drive the train without wash room in loco piolets cabin real salute to these people
I agree that not providing toilets is a very poor design. But seats zyada comfortable de diye to so jaane ka bhi darr hai.

@@Zunn313 The electric drive motors in the bogies switch roles and act as generators creating a breaking force. The generated electrical power is dissipated by a resistor bank, usually located on the roof. The immense heat generated in the resistors is blown off by fans which you can her clearly.
The advantage is the energy is wasted by electrical heating. No mechanical friction occurs, and no wear on break pads and wheels

As far as I've seen most of the Indian locomotives have main driving panel on the left side but here, it's on the other side. Can someone tell me about this convention in IR ?
Hi Saad - there is another control stand on the other side. If you can understand the lingo, this is the control stand for long hood leading. The other stand is for short hood leading.
Actually the original seating position was RIGHT side of the cab when in the SHF mode.
There is another control panel on the other side of the cab facing the opposite direction for driving in LHF mode. This right side was standard till the ALCOS were upgraded. Due to visibility issues the driver's seat was shifted to the LEFT side...this has now become standard practice.
But originally in the WDM2 , WDM4 and this class of loco shown in this video all have driving seat on the right in both directions of travel.
The original Alcos were designed for American railroads where they ride by default on the right tracks. Therefore the traffic signs there are also on the right thus the pilot‘s seat on the right.

Why drivers cabin are made backside of locomotive? It greatly reduce visibility. On turning 5:43 tracks are not visible.

At 3:12 the engine just cuts off and then speed up again. Why does it happen and what it is? It happens mostly in alco WDM3 series only.
The train feels a sudden forward push when this cut off type things happens.

Good catch. But I am unable to fully appreciate the constant braking and then accelerating. Waste of fuel in my humble opinion.
So the pilot should ignore speed limits or road signs slowing the train down due to slower traffic ahead? Or drive at pedestrian speed throughout and bust the time table?

The loco drivers need commendatio..unmindful of the need for ateending to nature calls and other family calls they are really dutybound. I wd even suggest that suitable periodical rewards also are necessary. God bless them if He doesnt passengers cant have safe travel.
