- welcome to this week bookbinding vlog where for the first time i made a 400+ page dotted journal using a curved bookbinding needle. the process is quite meditative. i hope it brings you moment of calmness and/or focus you need.
there is a short section starting at 13:55 detailing my struggle using the curved needle for the first time. my take on curved needles is they are quite handy when it comes to weaving the thread between the signatures but the curvature nature of needle makes it hard for me to navigate through the binding holes.. i hope it will get better with time..
i would love to know your thoughts on bookbinding with curved needles vs. regular sewing needles.
i hope you enjoy this bookbinding vlog. thanks so much for spending the time.

This video may have been the inspiration for some, to make a life change and turn their hobby into a business. For me, it was the inspiration for sewing a button back on my coat sleeve.
I use a curved needle but I understand your struggle. I have always used a curved needle for bookbinding so I’ve gotten used to it. The difference is how you hold the needle when sewing. Hold the curved needle closer to the tip and it will be a little easier. Good luck!
oh, thank you very much for your tip!! i will try it next time
Super relaxing! Love these videos.
anne of green gables....i loved that book!
Once you've found the curved needle, you never go back! I've been using one since I started bookbinding a few years ago and found it so much easier for stitching. Careful not to pierce your finger accidentally when pulling it out of a signature though!
She's skilled
I Love his, nice work ! :)
❤
☺😚😍💋💋💋thank you
Oh my gosh where can I buy one of these?! As an avid bullet journaler I’ve often thought about what one of your custom notebooks would look like with dotted paper! 😍
hi there!! thank you so much!! this is a special notebook i made for my friend. i am out of the country at the moment and cannot fulfill custom orders or sketchbook/journal orders but i plan to re-start making them as soon as i go back.. :D
This was just beautiful. I've long wanted to try bookbinding but always find myself doing something else. Also, 36:04... the metal little bee or fly on your desk is adorable. I love your décor.
Thanks for your asmr vids that have helped me focusing on studying. I am easy to procasnicate. I wanna get through it. I want to study badly but I can not listen to the music/sounds while studying. On the way looking for what is the best for me, I found out your channel with asmr daily sounds then I know they are what I am looking for. You have 1 more subscriber. Keep doing your favorite work. Be well! 🥰
Loved the video and how it ended up looking! It really is calming to see and hear how you work, i just subscribed after watching this one 😊
If it’s not a bother, may i ask what kind of watch model is the one you wear?
thank you very much for your encouraging words. my watch is Casio A158W, you can certainly find it on Amazon or eBay by using that made and model. i hope that helps. :D
that was great. i use curved needle since i started to meddle with bookbinding. i have a question: how do you know how many signatures you need?
most of the time from my experience depending on the covers' thickness and the type of paper, but you can also try to fit the estimated signatures, usually less than the number you think you will need in the cover to see if there will be more needed. i hope that makes sense :D
J'adore tes vidéos, grâce à toi j'ai appris beaucoup sur la reliure 😍. Une question : quel papier utilises-tu pour ce bullet journal ? Et où le trouves-tu ? Des bises de France !
thank you so much for your kind words!! i printed this paper by myself using gridzzly.com with their dotted mode. you can adjust the shade of the dots as well as its spacing too. i hope that helps. :D
@@lescargot.papier merci beaucoup ❤️
What kind of paper are you using? Also, whete do you buy your Arches paper in bulk?
Enjoying your videos. ❤
hi Kay! i often get Strathmore for pencil drawing/writing and Fabriano or Arches for watercolor. i often get bulk paper at a discount from my local art store but you can also get them online at BLICK art materials (www.dickblick.com). i hope that helps. :D
i love your pencil case bag! may i ask if you made it or got it from anywhere?
hi there! i bought it from a local handmade store in Hanoi, Vietnam.
I love your videos!!!!!… where do you get the large package of dot grid ?
I had it printed on A4 paper at a local print shop 😄
Bonjour, vous mettez des paquets de combien de feuilles pour un livre ? Merci.
What is the clothe mesh material you glued to the binding?
it is bookbinding cloth by Lineco. i just updated it to my material list. you can find it at any art supply store or you can find it on amazon via this link: amzn.to/3gkyleA . i hope that helps. :D
Out of curiosity, where do you usually buy your paper? I am thinking of doing this DIY project for my vacation and can’t really find the right paper anywhere
hi there! i often buy paper from my local art stores but if there isn't one near you, you can certainly order online at BLICK art materials at www.dickblick.com. i hope that helps.
@@lescargot.papier Thanks so much for answering! There are some awesome stores here in my town so I'll probably look for it there! I am using your videos as tutorial! We will see how the expriment turns out hahaha Cheers!
what type of paper do you use and where do you get it from? i have been looking for ages and i haven't seemed to find the best choice
hi there! i often get Strathmore for pencil drawing/writing and Fabriano or Arches for watercolor. you can get these paper brands at any local art stores or you can order them online at BLICK art materials. i hope that helps.
@@lescargot.papier THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I'll be sure to check them out
What brand of paper do you use? I have to resort to buying online since our small town only has Walmart to buy paper at. Hopefully I can skip the multiple purchases of buying different brands and from different websites.
hi there. sorry i just saw this. for writing paper i use Strathmore Drawing paper and for watercolor paper I use Fabriano either 90lb or 140lb paper. i sometime use Arches 140lb for watercolor sketchbooks too. you can find all of these at a local art-store or you can order online at BLICK art materials (www.dickblick.com). i hope that helps. :D
Mind me asking where you get the book covers? Do you make them?
i did not make this book cover. it was sent to me by a friend to turn into a journal for her friend's daughter. but normally i pick up books on the sidewalks or from the discounted bins at local bookstores or goodwill. i hope that helps. ;)
I love your videos!! What kind of glue do you use? The link isn't working unfortunately :(
oh no.. i use Lineco neutral pH adhesive. you can find it at any local art store but it is usually cheaper on Blick website.
@@lescargot.papier Thank you so much!
Do you have any tutorials on how to make the book cover from scratch?
right now i don't have any video like that unfortunately.
Question: where did you get your dotted paper? Or did you print it yourself?
thank you. i printed the dotted paper by myself using gridzzly.com in the dotted mode. you can adjust the shade of the dots as well as their spacing too. i hope that helps. :D

I greatly dislike curve needles 🙂 I'll stick with straight needles.
i was on the fence for so long and i finally did it. but i must say, i might be with you on this front, the curved needles really make it hard for me to navigate the binding holes although the ease of weaving the thread between the signatures is undeniable so...
@@lescargot.papier A helpful tip is that as soon as you put the straight needle in, bring it back out where the curve needle would have come out. In and out, instead of putting the needle in, pulling the thread and then bringing the needle back out. Hope that makes sense.
@@marsbeads oh that's super helpful! i will have to try it next time. thank you!
