    I enjoy making hardbound watercolor sketchbooks with Arches or Fabriano Artistico paper also and use the same method. It is relaxing in some ways but they make great gifts too. I really love the handmade paper which I spray varnish outside to protect and cover with a clear adhesive paper so any water would not cause bleeding through. The mulberry paper and others are just gorgeous and inexpensive. I made an extra large one for myself 16 x 10 closed and hope to fill it for my family. You have great work ethic and your process is exactly the way it should be done. I hope that you get many orders as many others I have seen just are wonky looking. Hahnemule company finally came out with a professional hardbound watercolor journal that is much nicer than Etchr but it still doesn’t compare to the sweat and love that an artisan can do.

    Such wonderfully filmed efficiency; done with absolutely admirable grace and success.
    I absolutely love the "natural" background noises (whatever was there in the times that you edited into the video). My favorites are the parts with no music & real time. They give the illusion of being in a artisain/crafts person meetup, and I get so much of my own things done, being in the company of another "maker", who's also focused on making.

    I stumbled upon this video by chance after seeing it in my UA-cam suggestions and I wanted to say how much I enjoyed it. It was incredibly soothing and it's absolutely fascinating watching the process. I don't know how you made 72 sketchbooks in five days. One sketchbook in 3 months would be daunting enough for me. I'm definitely bookmarking your shop for when I can afford a special sketchbook. I hope you have a wonderful day!

    Hey there... I stumbled on your vid, I know all about this struggle myself lol. Iam a full time professional artist and Bookbinder, trying to split time between the 2. I started out using old book covers and mass making the same covers myself . When I built my new studio and Bindery, I was able to get all the upgrades that I wanted and the room to put it all. I make all my own hand marbled papers for the end pages, the marbling bath table i made is very large it self. I specifically use goatskin leather from Italy and France.. i do 24K gold gilding, i do blind stamping and under the cover imbossing. I bought an old vintage press and and added tons of table space around the studio and bindery. I buy all the 100% cotton papers and watercolor papers in industrial rolls ( when available) and have walls full of paper and leather lol. I make everything from scratch now and its all custom, but it is an even longer process, which slows me down drastically. I miss these days of get a huge quantity of books done, in a small space lol.. pretty impressive. I also restore very old and rare books as well, sometimes they are so rare and old, it makes me extremely nervous knowing If I mess up... there are NO spare books of its kind to take pieces and parts from, to keep it " in original state ". it can be calming, yet unnerving sometimes to do binding. I keep telling myself to start filming everything, but I also need to get artwork done for the gallery I have a contract with, ontop of teaching private art/binding lessons... iam spread to thin as it is. I actually working now in my studio and bindery late night ( as always) trying to catch up. I always have random art vids and bookbinding vids playing on my studio monitors while iam in here. So your vid caught my attention and I decided to procrastinate for a few minutes to say high and watch you kick some A** lol. Good stuff.

    If you made 72 sketchbooks in 5 days, and assuming you worked 10 hour days (of course taking regular breaks for meals, etc), that means almost 1.5 books every hour! Even not including making the cover from scratch, that's still a lot of sketchbooks! Now that's hustle! RESPECT!

    I see you're measuring each book before you punch holes, but it seems you use the same widths for the stitches (I could be wrong though). Wouldn't it be much handier to make a punching mold (with a punching cradle) so you don't need to remeasure everything all the time? It's the first thing we learned in class an it's a real timesaver

    • @lescargot.papier
      @lescargot.papier  2 роки тому +1

      thanks so much for sharing your tips!! i’ve thought about making a punching mold but (it might not be obvious in the video) a lot of the time i make sketchbooks from damaged book covers which are different in sizes that lead to the measurements become slightly different every time and because of that it’s not ideal to use a standard measurement for them all. perhaps it would be useful for the ones with the same size like the leopard moth sketchbooks but then again, because i make them to often i know exactly where each mark go when i place the signatures on the cutting mat which makes me lazy to try out the punching mold i guess 😅😅

      @@lescargot.papier thank you so much. Do you send overseas? I’m from Australia and i think your journals are great but postage may be more expensive than it’s worth,no offence intended. I would be after a writing journal book approx 7x5 inch depending on postage expenses please?

    I'm disappointed that there are parts with music and frenzic speed up. I tried to skip but it wasn't relaxing. Only parts of this video are made to be ASMR and those parts are great.

    Wow, a business where 80% of all goods are sold out. Not such a good thing. If I can't get what I want when I want why not give my business to companies that can provide for my needs. If love to support small business, but you people must do better. When one works for themselves they must be better.

      @@manisinterlude it must certainly is not. It's what people whom want to be self sufficient and self employed in a highly competitive world where mommy and daddy don't hold your hand needs to hear. If you don't like it, maybe don't go so far or of your way to read it and offend yourself AND take the time to comment. Lol something maybe you needed to hear as well. Also, not for nothing the planet wouldn't turn without a negative charge. It's literally what makes life in this planet possible numb nut. Grow up.
