Jonathon, I'm really liking the consumer/user focused direction on this channel. Many Apple channels seem to chase the hot button talking points with new devices (no shade to them, that's important too!), but I really like how your videos feel somewhat niche while also posing interesting questions that feel more applicable and grounded to the average tech user. Props to you and all involved!
@@johansugarev As a PC Gamer x86 is still completely relivent for me personally and I am liking the content that LTT is putting out on the Steam Deck and just Linux in general (month long linux challenege anyone?) So I am the complete oppisite of what you are interested in.
@@Montisaquadeis That's good. I personally don't get why the steam deck exists, but then again I don't leave the house often. My PS4 plays games just fine.
The base model MacBook Air is probably the best thing Apple has made in a while. I use it for school everyday and it runs all of my editing software perfectly.
Oh yeah i got one for about 850€ a few months back. I use it for work and for entertainment and it is so great. Mz first mac experience and i really love it
@@boshbogle yeah, or hell even just more usb c ports on the OTHER side. that would be better than nothing, also support for more than one external display
@@22Tech I also love my MBA but that is one thing I would change. It would be nice to be able to charge it or plug stuff in on the other side. If they were going to stick with 2 TB ports, I wish they had gone 1 port on each side.
During the holidays, Base model iPad's can drop down to $250. For the price, They are unbeatable. Even bought my parents their own as well. They really are great for everyone that just needs a tablet for general use.
@@eric000 A couple years ago I got all mine from Best Buy, during Black Friday sales. I noticed Target also had them that year. With the chip shortage, and price increases now days they may not drop that low again. But I’m sure you could find a deal that’s not to far off.
Yep. Also WiFi only iPads are just usually better deals than the cellular models if you don't need cellular. Even in my country where Apple products are usually more expensive than the US & UK you can still get very cheap and discounted based model wifi only iPads.
I got a base model M1 MacBook air for school and development. And this thing is seriously amazing. Its far better than my other laptop that costs twice as much. And I can get away with not carrying a charger with me when I go out for school and work.
@@Tonyisgaming it’s actually kind of hard to believe. It’s closer in performance to my custom desktop than my old laptops. And I have to keep reminding myself it has no fan and is a base model computer. The battery as well. I love not carrying a charger. I just have to leave home with my laptop and not worry that it’ll die in the middle of the day.
@Greg I don’t think they’re going back to intel any time soon. Macs went from in my eyes over priced and lower performance than completion machines to absolutely worth the price. I doubt I’ll want to get another like of laptop after this to be honest.
Honestly the M1 transition has truly made Apple an actual reasonable competitor on the laptop space. Just today managed to snag a base line Macbook Air close to damn brand new for less than 800 Euros and wow, I am impressed.
This is one of the best Apple-centric channel on UA-cam. Doesn't try to make controversial claims that will stir up backlash. Doesn't try to paint other companies as bad and inferior to Apple. Speaks honest stuff that isn't filled with fanboy justifications. And most importantly puts out consumer/user focused videos that are actually helpful if you want or use Apple products. Hats off to Jonathan and the team. Simply the best out there.
The base iPad 2018 was my gateway into the Apple the ecosystem, I bought it when the iPhone 11 was the newest one and for half the price you were getting a higher resolution screen and more functionality.
I agree *somewhat*. What I can tell y'all: Dont cheap out on the mac storage and ram. you cant upgrade it after it and *trust me*, you do not wanna be stuck with 256gb storage and 8gb ram 5 years down the line.
Yah that's true, with RAM especially. Though, I think if you have a Mac Mini, getting an external hard drive for file storage would be better value since the computer's just going to be sitting there anyway.
3 роки тому+3
Nah. Just backup stuff more often. Not a big deal.
@@macaddress Yes, that is true with the mac mini. I really like the older mac minis tho because you could upgrade ram. Would be so cool if apple brought back ram and storage upgrades, but apple is gonna be apple and not do that. Can always dream about it when I close my eyes tho xD
Funny thing is that the 8 GB of RAM on the MacBook aren't that big of a deal. Can't remember if it was Austin or another channel that went into that. I have it in base stuff. External SSD for my large stuff. 1TB Samsung SSD. Upgrading to that internally... And the 8gb of RAM is good enough for everything for me and seems to cope way better than 8gb of RAM on a Windows device would. Where 16gb gives me the same experience day to day.
don't forget that most people buy the base model with what all they have. if it's enough in 5 year you can always sell it. so I wouldn't moan about it.
They actually fixed the "reset to update" requirement for the series 3 with watchOS 8. I still use mine every day from when I bought it in 2016, but it's just not a great experience anymore.
@@battman505 I think it's 80 bucks but still I agree. I am convinced that Apple sometimes keeps the base model products around to convince users to buy a higher end one. Like you look at the Series 3 on the product page and automatically want to get the SE or the 7.
I always get my phones on contract and for a few phones there I would get the lowest storage option… and ALWAYS regret it. Like I’m pretty sure my first 3 iPhones were 4, 8 and 16gb in order and it was absolutely not enough. Things take up more space now, yeah, but I love that the base storage for their devices now is enough that the average casual user won’t really have to worry about it.
iPhone SE is a really good phone with a great processor, for a very accessible price. For most people, and certainly for me, the only real downside is the small battery. Choosing this over the premium phone leaves you (a lot of) money to spend on e.g. a better laptop or desktop, where that money can really get you a lot of extra performance.
@@eddiem2343 Problem is, to my knowledge it has the same battery (size) as the iPhone 8 but uses a newer and therefore much more powerconsuming processor.
@@2plus2thats4 keep in mind that the newer processor is also a lot more efficient. In my testing the SE well outlasted the 8 (both at 100% battery health)
Im an android user for life, a week ago I purchased the base variant of the cheapest iPad 9, i paid $390 that’s around ₹29500 with the student discount for the 64 go variant because you pay more than a quarter of its price for government tax in India & its a fact that India is a poor country most people don’t have the purchasing power to buy apple devices. Even if you have the money you should be ready to pay the extra tax. But even though I paid more than I should for a basic tablet I think its worth it because it performs much better than any android tablet in this price range, its performance can be compared to flagship devices from other brands, the only 2 things I’m missing is a USB C connector and the limitations of iPad OS Software Either way I’m happy with my iPad 9
The Mac Mini M1 may be one of the best Price/Performance devices ever. It's a great device. It's shockingly fast compared to other devices in the same class/price.
Love the video Jonathan. I loved my iPhone SE that I used a s a secondary/work line. Perfect for the pocket. When my 11 Pro finally kicks I’m going to get an SE. I’m also a fan of buying older Apple tech as cheaply as possible and keeping it for a year or two. Just bought a 2015 27” iMac for less than $150 US. It’s still good hardware for the next couple of years…
Been running the se for almost 2 years now it was a replacement for my old 6s+ the size difference was the only thing that was a issue to me and took some getting used to and for Black Friday this year I picked up a base model MacBook Air for $860 usd which to me slays most PCs and even at home I don’t use my ryzen desktop near as much as when I was daily driving my hp ultrabook now it’s just for large projects and storage.
Yeah I went from a 6s+ to the 2020 SE. t The screen shrinkage is real. Because of that, one issue I’ve found is mistyping more often on the SE due to a smaller keyboard than I’m used to.
i am the same way about the MacBook air and my custom ryzen desktop. Also I went from the gen 1 SE to the 2020 version as soon as it came out so I was relieved to have a phone that didn't have like a 4 inch screen. i honestly hope the new SE will have edge to edge display but with touchID similar to the newer iPad air and mini
@@beefmaster7 I have had the same issue and would like to see a se+ with touch kinda like the old 6-8 iPhones had the plus size I loved my old 6s+ as a daily driver phone it was a tablet replacement for me
I bought the 2020 iPhone SE the day it was released due to the deal at Walmart for 200 bucks off. However, the surprising part was that somehow Walmart lost my purchase plan that was supposed to be setup with Verizon. So when I went to pay off the phone Verizon said it had already been fully paid for. So basically I got the phone for 40 bucks out of pocket. Not sure how it happened but it will probably go down in my history as the best value proposition I have ever gotten. lol
I own the iPhone SE 2 and the base model iPad. The iPad has been amazing and so has been the SE. The single complaint I keep having with the iPhone all the time is its low battery capacity.
SE2 owner here. My previous device was an Android with a 4,100mAh battery (SE has 1,821 mAh in comparison). So, I deleted the UA-cam app and now my screen time averages 1~2 hours per week lol So my point is... Thanks, Apple for...fixing my addiction...? Who am I kidding. Just buy a power bank. Me, probably never. Too cheap I mean goddam why would you think I bought the SE from the first place?
@@daleth50 I also imagine this is sort of the lifestyle of EV users. Planning their trip ahead and charge their cars accordingly. For example whenever I leave town I make sure to fully charge my SE instead of keeping the healthy 80-50% rule.
I bought the base iPad a few months ago to kinda test how I'd like the Apple ecosystem, coming from Android (also my first time buying a tablet) and I absolutely love it. It does basically everything I want it to at a reasonable price. If you're willing to put another ~$130 into it, the Logitech Combo Touch case is a good addition. The keyboard is better than Apple's Smart Keyboard imo and the trackpad is a nice bonus. I don't think the iPad screen's air gap is really noticeable, but I can see how it might be an issue if you plan on drawing with an apple pencil or something. I think my only complaint would be the bottom-firing speakers, but after getting the airpod pros on sale it's really not an issue if I'm just watching youtube by myself, and connecting to a bluetooth speaker to get better sound if I have other people watching with me isn't a big deal either. I would highly recommend saving A bit of money and just getting the base iPad unless you REALLY need some of the features of the higher end models. It really is a good product for $330.
LMG should have a dedicated Android channel. As a consumer I am constantly asking the same questions on both platforms. Ecosystem, when to buy, what to buy, which can do better at what for whom?
As someone who has been dealing with an se for over a year now, I've really made it feel like home, sure the screen is a little small and the battery kinda sucks, but for what it is it feels amazing to use.
I bought an 8th gen 32gb iPad for college 2 years ago and I think it has been the best investment of my school life. The storage doesn’t really bother me because we used Google Drive for everything and student accounts had unlimited space, barely needed to download anything ever. I bought a Bluetooth keyboard for the device a couple of weeks ago and I think I will get at least two or even three more years of use out of it now using it for taking notes and writing.
I like to keep my phones for a long time, so upgrading the storage has been key, after almost 4 years I’m still super happy with my XR, and because I upped the storage I haven’t reached the point where my apps are taking up all the space and I have to juggle them like I have had to do in the past with past phones, and although the xr wasn’t the absolute bottom of the lineup (I think), it certainly was closer to that
I really like your channel…. Your approach on what videos to make is fantastic. You are critically asking the question that the consumer is really asking… not just straight comparison videos but deeper questions that we discover after a few weeks/ months of using our products. I am subscribing right now!
Managed to get a good deal on an 8gen iPad because it was close to announcement time & the store wanted to retire its current stock. It’s a huge jump from a second generation iPad mini.
Was starting to wonder when we'd get another video from you Jonathan. Glad you're back, great video. Do you guys have plans to do your own in-depth review of the M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBook Pros? Not that I didn't enjoy LTT's review of it but I'd love to get your take on it from a less "can it run games as well as a PC" point of view, maybe see what it can do as the daily driver for a content creator with a heavy video and photo editing workflow, or maybe even from a software developer standpoint.
I have the iPad 9th gen with 64gb of storage, and it is AMAZING i love it! I would recommend it for students or to everyone that needs a cheap Tablet with great power and a decent amount of storage
There are some things I'm willing to cheap out on. The iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods are the ones I'm willing to not get the flagship models. However, the Mac and the iPhone are the ones where I wouldn't cheap out on because those are the two most important parts of the puzzle.
For me I personally would cheap out on everything except for AirPods. Here’s would i would do- iPhone 11 M1 MacBook Air iPad 9th gen Apple Watch SE AirPods pro 2 (assuming it has better battery life than AirPods pro 1 and AirPods 3 but if not then I’ll choose AirPods 3)
@@robertt9342 I didn’t say it’s not any good, I said it is not enough. The battery life is abysmal, the camera is not good enough (no night mode), small screen with big bezels. On the plus side, it is compact and has Touch ID. I got the iPhone 12 mini which fixes every problem I had with the se, but I do miss Touch ID.
Do you think you'll feature more legacy Apple products and last generation Apple products? I think it would be interesting to see how useful and capable they are now and how supported by Apple they are.
You say that the lightning port is the biggest drawback to the cheapest iPad, BUT that actually means your phone and tablet can share the same charger!
My first mac was the base model mid-2009 white MacBook, which I bought the DAY before the late-2009 unibody version was announced. Worked like a charm for over half a decade, and I can still use it for some light tasks almost thirteen years later.
Personally, I did this but with some slight adjustments. Instead of getting the iPad, I got AirPods Pro. Frankly, as someone who doesn't need a laptop, having a Mac mini at home and my iPhone when I'm out works great. The money I could've spent on the iPad I spent on the AirPods Pro and I think I derive more value from these with their noise cancellation than I would get from an iPad. It just seems more useful to me. Great video though, I love the analysis!
The TLDR version: I am now buying smaller hard drive capacity for my i devices and use my 2 TB iCloud for sync. The long version: Granted, on the cheapest MacBook Air, I got 500gb but I use external USB for FCPX editing. my newly ordered iPhone 13 will only be 256GB, compared to the 512GB iPhone 11, I don't feel the extra space has great resale value. Just before 2019, I was in ICU for 1 week and a half, and I gave a friend my CC and asked them to buy me the cheapest iPad so I was entertained while tied up to tubes and probed everywhere. The 32GB is a bit of a problem today and OS updates sometimes fail. I had to disable the feature to uninstall not often used apps because it seems to favor things in my fotos lib. so apps I use once pr month, where always uninstalled. But since I needed a 2TB iCloud account anyway, the strategy of choosing smaller capacity devices works well for me.
I bought a base iPad back in 2017. Still works great! May upgrade when the next round of iPad updates come around as it’s a bit slower these days. Especially when compared to my 13 mini
Got a 2013 MacBook Air with a 128 gb ssd a few weeks before I entered college. I wnet through a lot of Photoshop, Illustrator, Maya, 3DsMax and a crap ton of digital illustration. It still works quite fine. The battery life is not as good anymore, but everything else works perfectly. So, my point is, just take care of your devices and they'll end up being worth of your investment
I agree about iPad - currently a basic one is literally the best value you can get from any tablet on the market, but I wouldn't really recommend anyone to buy iPhone SE - its battery is just terrible, don't expect it to survive a full day even with quite moderate usage.
The M1 Mac Mini is absolutely incredible. I've been using it for eight months now and it is just fantastic. I can edit 4k videos or just surf the net seamlessly. Stream music, work, have 10 tabs opened, and everything just works perfect. This is something I'm already taking for granted and I never had it before on Windows. Not even in brand new machines, I believe.
I've only ever been burned buying their first generation of something. The revision always seems to be much better, after that they are smaller changes.
@@macaddress I don’t think so, which is weird considering that everyone in my family has an Apple Watch of some kind. Mom & Dad have a Series 4, my older sister has a Series 6 (after our dog chewed up her Series 4), and obviously my little bro & I have the SE.
One thing you didn’t mentioned and was one tipping point to the iPad Air (besides storage that used to be way to to slow with 32gb) was the support for the Apple pencil 2. It is noticeable better and i would get mad with charging the first generation. but if you need a tablet, not a semi-full PC replacement, the iPad is just for you.
I would love a series where you buy the cheapest kit for a 5 year life cycle for example and we can periodically check in how it's holding up. For example, as per this video, if we buy the cheapest gear apple sold today, total cost and value and projected longevity (8GB RAM not enough 3/4 years later on base Mini and Air, 64 Storage running out on SE And iPad) VS A likely future proof build, 16GB RAM on the Air/Mini, 128GB storage on iPad/Iphone SE, total cost and projected longevity. That would be an interesting video to watch
I got my mom an iPhone SE to replace her tired old iPhone 6. She loves it. She doesn’t need all the latest features. She just wants to call text and take decent pictures, and she doesn’t want to give up the home button.
My Mom also missed the home button when I gave her an iPhone 12, but after learning the gestures and the benefits of Face ID she loves it and says she can't imagine going back to a home button
@@HenrikoMagnifico I let her use my iPhone Xs after I upgraded to see how she liked it before I bought her the SE, because if she liked it I was just gonna let her keep it since it was still in good shape. She didn’t like it. The FaceID she didn’t mind but she hated the gestures.
I managed to get a brand NEW macbook air M2 for 1.049€ (on apple store it sells for 1.300€) and im LOVING it, very good for my university and also for coding
I bought ipad mini 5 (256gb wifi only) right before the new ipad mini came out. still not as much regret after that 6th generation thing came out. my ipad mini custom made with a particular engraving had decided to quit working on me on the very last month of its warranty so i brought it to the apple care center and they got me a new ipad mini in just 4 days yeah, the mac mini is a fair choice.
I semi-agree, apart from the SE and the watch. The iPhone SE i tried only lasted until lunchtime. Not only that, but it was also slowing down a lot. It also has a single camera for those who want a triple camera. (Had iPhone SE 2020 for 1.5 years and hated it all along) As for the apple watch series 3, you’re missing so much that for a couple of bucks more you can just buy the SE and the dofference is a world apart.
Rocking Macbook Pro Mid 2012 Non Retina. More Than Enough for Web Development and Android App Dev with an SSD & 4GB Ram. Only Replaced Broken Keyboard for $25 bought second hand for about $300 in 2019.
I bought a refurbished Mac Mini M1 for less than $600 and it's the most powerful computer I've ever owned. It's my only Apple device (besides a Magic Trackpad, highly recommend) and I'm falling in love with macOS. Logic Pro runs like a dream, while my 2015 Dell XPS has so much trouble with Reaper. There are a number of things that frustrate me since I'm used to Windows. Snapping windows to the sides seems like it should be simple. Window management in general is pretty different. The way Finder seems to obfuscate the file directory (especially at first, coming from Windows Explorer). But pretty much everything I want to do has a reasonable way to get done in macOS. I like the idea of having to learn new things and change up my workflow. And it's just a joy to use in so many ways compared to Windows. Sure, I have to learn a different style of window management, but it's not bad just because it's different.
for me, the ipad 9 and the iphone xr are the best options and the ones I have. no regrets on these purchases. also, I live in a dangerous area if I get robbed it won’t hurt my pocket as much as having an iphone 13 lost
The only time i can think of people getting burned by the base model apple products were back when the iPhone 5C released. I knew 4 people who had them in the apple bumper cases that dropped them and had the screen spider web crack. I had a college friend who still had one in 2016 until the phone decided to vibrate for no reason then the phone wouldn’t read a SIM card. Not too long after the phone died altogether.
i bought the new base model iPad student discounter at $300, best deal in tech ever imo. This thing is a computer. iPadOS is getting better ever year and although it’s not perfect, I’ve switched from using windows laptops to just having this pretty much. Works swimmingly with my iPhone, it has a lot of accessories, and I LOVE the Apple Pencil. The laminated display is there, but as some random human, I really don’t care because it still feels good and responsive. they nailed it imo
I think the M1 Air is a better buy for most than the M1 Mini given it is portable, and you don't have to buy keyboard/mouse/monitor/desk/chair for it. If you are low on space or room you can use it at the kitchen table. Plus just being portable adds a lot of value, for almost no performance loss. I tend to favor the XR over the SE2020 for similar price. It has a bigger screen, better battery, faceID. Performance is close enough that you will only notice in benchmarks (A12 vs 13). It just feels and looks more like a modern iPhone, where the SE feels like an upgraded iPhone 6.
I bought a series 3 Apple Watch in 2020 I didn’t feel burned at all. The resale value never dropped so when I upgraded to series 5 I got most of my money back selling it on OfferUp. I upgrade to the newest budget iPad every year by trading in last year’s model (went from 7-8-9th gen). Same deal iPads trade in value always stay high so I upgrade for $100 every year.
I got the Base Model Ipad 9th Gen and it's the best value product I've bought. It's fast and the OS is Smooth and Fluid, definitely enough to get me through taking notes and doing writing assignments in College
I bought the Mac Mini M1 being kinda scared it would be a waste of money. I was very wrong it really rocks

I have the iPad 8 that is almost identical to iPad 9, and I bought it on purpose. It does everything I need (mostly painting & drawing), it's cheap, and *it has 3.5mm jack* . Same for the iPhone. The major concern of SE for me is screen size (which some might like) and battery life.

2:07 I had to deal with apple devices with only 8 and 16 GB, in Fact I think I had an 8GB iphone 3G, a 16GB, or maybe 32GB ipod Touch 4th Gen, an iPhone 5G with 32GB, a iPhone SE (1st Gen) with 64GB and now without having had a 126GB device I jumped to 256GB with the iphone 7 Plus and the 2020 iPad Pro 11", and I do happen to carry both at all times so I have an accumulated 512GB, that is if I'm not carrying my 4TB external HDD, which I can actually connect to the iPad!!. (thanks to the USB-C port, kinda was the main reason I went with the Pro.
I'm currently using the base M1 Mac Mini. This little thing has been fantastic for me. I did get burned once nearly 10 (good god...) years ago. I bought a second hand 15" MacBook Pro 2013. This is the first year that the base 15" models didn't have dedicated graphics, so I was stuck with Iris Pro. It is also the year before the entry RAM amount got bumped to 16GB. Doing video projects in college while maxing out my 8GB of RAM was an exercise in suffering
I was burned by buying an iPod touch 4th gen. Since I was in 4th or 5th grade or so, it took a lot of saving up to buy it. Lo and behold, the new iPod touch comes out, and pretty soon mine is a slow mess and apps stop supporting it. Great looking hardware, but man did it become obnoxious to use. I then switched to Windows phone and found the experience much nicer :) However nowadays I'm using a Nokia 6.1 Android, and I'll probably upgrade to a Google Pixel (or Fairphone 4 if it gets a US release) sometime in the next year.

Going second hand, a locked red iPhone SE 2 is less than $200. The base iPad is too expensive second hand but you can look for the Air 3 or Pro for a similar price
Just want to point out that you can get iMac from 2014 with a 5k display for like $400, and if you don’t mind a moderate amount of “hacking”, you can run the newest Mac OS with zero compromises. If you want a “like new” device, probably closer to $700, but if you go super cheap you can wait for good deals on parts. Should be a perfectly functional setup until the OS after 14. (Assuming the timing works out. I’m running Ventura,. Assuming Intel support for 2020 Macs until 2025, that should give me until Mac OS 15 to upgrade., and even then, my computer isn’t found to explode. My apps I have installed will still work and I should be able to update those until they stop shipping Intel packages entirely, which will depend on user base) And even after all that, there are boards you can splice in that let’s you use the thing as a display. So that gives you an upgrade path once M1 macs get more affordable.
I just got an M1 Mac mini, I had been using a late 2013 27" iMac ever since I got it brand new in 2014, that computer lasted me many did not give much trouble but it started to show it's age lately, it's still a great machine for casual users but for my work I needed na upgrade. The M1 Mini feels amazing and I got an LG 4k screen to go with it, the difference is incredible.
The M1 Mac Mini is seriously underrated. That thing introduced me to Mac for the first time after years of hating Macs, and I fell in love. I have a 14 inch Macbook Pro now, but when it comes to introducing people to macOS, the Mac Mini is always my goto, and they're shocked at how cheap and powerful it is.
I so agree. You don't always need the most expensive device. My Mac mini M1 is great for teleworking and the previous generation iPad mini is ideal for reading.
Please do a episode about resale of Apple products, I know this would be difficult given the different areas of the world people are in don’t watch the videos. But I think it would be interesting to see some research as to how to resell your products best in your market. For example iPhone selling to secondhand shops are better than taking the trade-in with Apple.
I scored my Series 3 Apple Watch 38mm at Walmart for a steel of a deal at $124.00 USD. Always check with major retailers as they do clearance out old stock in anticipation for new models.
Nice video! I'm liking the consumer-oriented vibe of this channel. I don't get your point at 5:56 though. Isn't that what happened with both iPhone SEs? Upgraded internals with the old body?
Still rocking the 6th gen ipad 128 gb. I just love the finger print sensor and I can consume most media on the device with great resolution. I would say Cheap ipad is the best ipad, but only if it is not your everything device.
Small but perhaps significant pet peeve-value isn’t the issue, price sensitivity is. You can argue the value of almost any price sector by considering relative utility to individual user, so value is not so absolute as “cheap” and “expensive.” While the point of the video still stands-some guidance for those more price-sensitive-precision in language is important in matters like this as it better guides our understanding and consideration. That’s not a defense of Apple products, but rather a reminder about having the right discussion. Thank you for your work!
My dad got the SE 2020 last year after upgrading from the 5s he's had since around 2018. He's really not the type who can judge things as well other than the fact that he uses it daily but other than the battery it is a pretty good deal if you have to be in the ecosystem. I, on the other hand, am rocking a 2015 MacBook Pro and, besides the 2.7GHz i5 and the 8 gigs of ram that I still find decent for a 7 year old machine, the 128 gigs of storage ran out almost immediately, especially since I wanted to have Windows and Arch (btw) installs on it. I shelled out another 300 bucks for a 480 gig drive, 280 of which is dedicated to my main macOS installation that I use for day-to-day tasks and I find it more than enough. So I'd say whatever you do, especially now with non-upgradeable storage, do not get anything below 256, preferably 512GB. On the other hand, since external storage is getting smaller and faster, and especially much cheaper than what Apple charges you for their built-in, it seems to me that 256GB might be the sweet spot for pretty much any user I can think of, since media, backups or code can easily be stored externally.
still using a late 2012 MacMini that i upgraded myself over time. Also still using an early 2015 MacBook Air for traveling and everyday stuff. These products are still really good. Just got an iPad Pro recently and the only reason for not going with a cheaper option was the Apple Pencil 2 support (base iPad can only handle Apple Pencil 1) - The only info missing here. :)
I already have a Macbook Pro 2020 Intel, and I read cases all the time on it so I wanted something portable that I can hold nearer to my eyes without a keyboard. I was planning to buy an iPad Air 4th Gen, with the Apple Pencil 2nd gen, but I just thought of buying the iPad 9th gen, with the 1st gen Apple Pencil since the storage is a GREAT upgrade, and it's just what I actually need. It just depends I think with what you're planning to do with your apple devices. I have my iPhone where I can take pictures with. The cheapest doesn't mean the worst, it's just more affordable. I mostly invest in bigger storage, and I plan to make most of the investment I have with it for a very long time. My first iPad was the mini in its first generation, and I swear it lasted so long with 16gb of storage. This new purchase was a win for me.
I would argue the base MacBook Air is a better option than the Mac Mini. For $200 more, you get the same specs in a laptop form factor with a good screen, keyboard, trackpad, and mobility. If you already have a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, then the Mini is a good option. Otherwise, go with the Air. I’d also opt for the iPhone 11 over the SE. performance difference is minimal, but you get a better display and significantly better battery life with the 11 for $100-200 more (less if you can find the 11 on clearance or refurbed).
I got a base model M1 MacBook air for school and development. And this thing is seriously amazing. Its far better than my other laptop that costs twice as much. And I can get away with not carrying a charger with me when I go out for school and work.

@Greg I don’t think they’re going back to intel any time soon.

Better just to add 50 dollars and go for the se
@@battman505 I think it's 80 bucks but still I agree. I am convinced that Apple sometimes keeps the base model products around to convince users to buy a higher end one. Like you look at the Series 3 on the product page and automatically want to get the SE or the 7.
Series 3is fine, just not as nice as the newer models. I daily drive a 3.
The Series 3 came out in 2017, so I find it somewhat hard to believe that you purchased said watch in 2016.

I own both an iPhone SE and an iPad 9th gen, and feel I got a tremendous value without losing anything important
do u still own both?
How is the battery on it?

Im an android user for life, a week ago I purchased the base variant of the cheapest iPad 9, i paid $390 that’s around ₹29500 with the student discount for the 64 go variant because you pay more than a quarter of its price for government tax in India & its a fact that India is a poor country most people don’t have the purchasing power to buy apple devices. Even if you have the money you should be ready to pay the extra tax. But even though I paid more than I should for a basic tablet I think its worth it because it performs much better than any android tablet in this price range, its performance can be compared to flagship devices from other brands, the only 2 things I’m missing is a USB C connector and the limitations of iPad OS Software
Either way I’m happy with my iPad 9
The Mac Mini M1 may be one of the best Price/Performance devices ever. It's a great device. It's shockingly fast compared to other devices in the same class/price.
Love the video Jonathan. I loved my iPhone SE that I used a s a secondary/work line. Perfect for the pocket. When my 11 Pro finally kicks I’m going to get an SE. I’m also a fan of buying older Apple tech as cheaply as possible and keeping it for a year or two. Just bought a 2015 27” iMac for less than $150 US. It’s still good hardware for the next couple of years…
Apple products' longevity is just insane. I bought my iphone 7 when it first launched (maybe 2016?) and it still works really great!

The screen shrinkage is real.

I just bought the ipad 9th gen and I'm loving it... Thanks for the validation of my purchase ❤️
Too cheap
I mean goddam why would you think I bought the SE from the first place?
@@jockeyjeon9532 actually I bought an SE to reduce my screen time and it worked, the small battery forces me to not use the phone

I appreciate these types of videos! With the average consumer in mind
2:13 I freaked out thinking my AirPods stopped working, lol
There are some things I'm willing to cheap out on. The iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods are the ones I'm willing to not get the flagship models. However, the Mac and the iPhone are the ones where I wouldn't cheap out on because those are the two most important parts of the puzzle.

Dude, I've been indecisive about the Ipad 9 vs. Ipad Mini 6 and this video helped me to decide which I will like best. Thank you
I agree about iPad - currently a basic one is literally the best value you can get from any tablet on the market, but I wouldn't really recommend anyone to buy iPhone SE - its battery is just terrible, don't expect it to survive a full day even with quite moderate usage.

Funny enough, my parents actually got my little brother & I the Apple Watch SE for Christmas last year. Coming off the Series 0, it’s a huge upgrade.

The iPhone SE i tried only lasted until lunchtime. Not only that, but it was also slowing down a lot. It also has a single camera for those who want a triple camera. (Had iPhone SE 2020 for 1.5 years and hated it all along)

The only time i can think of people getting burned by the base model apple products were back when the iPhone 5C released.
The XR is old. Get a used 11 Pro.
I plan to buy a SE when my current iPhone dies. I can't understand what is all that "outdated look" about...
The major concern of SE for me is screen size (which some might like) and battery life.
@@Summer-xu8qu Oh, I _love_ small screens, so that's a perk for me. I don't know what to say about battery life, I never had a problem with Apple. For reference, I used SE, 5s and 8 plus.
The new IPad you mentioned is SO good. I got it a month ago and let me tell you 🥺 it’s so much nicer than iPad Air and unless you’re a pro, you really don’t need the pro one!
I’ve been doing art, video calls, watching, so many applications 😭 it’s a genuine joy to use!!! And SO MUCH CHEAPER
i feel like the best thing to do is buy the mid range options on sale. the m1 macbook air is on sale for $800 rn. what a deal!
I recently bought a iPhone SE (2020) refurbished, it remplaces my worn-out iPhone 8 and I get to still use my old case. I also have a Apple Watch SE :)
Im with my iPhone se 2020 for 3 years now , 3 more left .

For me rn, my apple ecosystem is in order and use cases:
iPhone 11:Current Daily Driver
Apple Watch SE:Replace my Series 3 which in my opinon which was stupid when I bought it.
AirPods Pros:Great Headphones, waiting for AirPods with more battery life and usb-c before new AirPods
iPad Pro 2017 10.5 inch:Really want to upgrade,mainly for newer chip, center stage,usb-c,thin bessels.apple pencil 2
MacBook Air M1:Great laptop, just want better specs and want a desktop to have as daily Mac at home with better ram+storage
Going second hand, a locked red iPhone SE 2 is less than $200.
The base iPad is too expensive second hand but you can look for the Air 3 or Pro for a similar price
I bought a 2005 Macbook for $25 and it still works. if you want cheap, go to your nearest yard or garage sale.
My apps I have installed will still work and I should be able to update those until they stop shipping Intel packages entirely, which will depend on user base)
And even after all that, there are boards you can splice in that let’s you use the thing as a display.
I’ve got exactly the same combo! ❤️
It means it has a fast processor but an old look

Still rocking the 6th gen ipad 128 gb. I just love the finger print sensor and I can consume most media on the device with great resolution. I would say Cheap ipad is the best ipad, but only if it is not your everything device.

that's some sweet stock music. I could listen to those fm bells for days.
Another great vid! Great way to illustrate the value in these entry-level products!
still using a late 2012 MacMini that i upgraded myself over time. :)
im not an Apple user [but i have 2 iPods tho], i dont own an iPhone, iPad, nor a Mac, but i still love watching the vids of this channel
