1:58 So, 1,460mAh = 1.46 Ah (just divide by 1,000). It's also rated at 7.62v and 11.13Wh. Notice that 11.13/7.62=1.46. That's all there is to it. This works because Wh (watt hours) = Ah (amp hours) * v (volts)
The screw mount might work best in industrial settings where the user could snap it to a wall near where they work. You don't have it to fish it out of a pocket, it's already high up enough for Face ID to work fine. You can use it mostly hands free, and all the swipes to navigate are immediately accessible. I guess that could work anywhere anyone needs quick and easy access to their phone in a vertical orientation. I'd be interested to hear how people do use them.

I love using MagSafe but I really hate the name. MagSafe on the MBP was awesome. If you caught yourself on that cable the cable would just pop off. The laptop wouldn’t go flying. The socket wouldn’t be damaged. MagSafe with the iPhone 12 is really cool. It feels like the future more so than previous wireless charging (because of magnets). But it really should have just been called AirPower.
Yeah, there's no "safe" element to it like with the MPB. I think the point was to take advantage of the old MagSafe's to create hype at launch. If that was the case, it definitely worked.
You could drill the magnet into the wall in the kitchen so that you can see your recipes or watch recipe tutorial videos while you do what you need to do to follow along.
Here is a simple explanation for the battery rating - Power = voltage × current. So let's divide the power 11.13W by the 7.62V, we get 1.460A (1460 milli ampere). The hour is added to the units to indicate capacity, by that I mean, if the battery delivers a constant 1460mA then it would last one hour, hence the 1460mAh rating. Same thing applies to the power rating as well.
The MagSafe battery pack is sounding more and more like a great buy for me. I really really like the fact that it stops at 90% and can also recharge by plugging my phone in.
Picked up (before the controversy) an Anker Magsafe puck with a USB-C connector on the end for my iPhone 12 and it's so awesome to be able to charge my phone without having the cable stuck in the bottom. Now the cable can stick out to the side in between my fingers!
Gotta say, Jonathan is all the good bits of Apple fanboy, but seemingly without the bad bits. I wasn't sure I'd like this channel, but as a potential future user of Apple at work it's growing on me.
The magnetic wall mount would be pretty good for your kitchen if you're cooking something.I never want my phone touching the messy table when im cooking not to mention finding a place where it can stand up(ipad gang with case augh)
Regarding the battery capacity, it makes sense: 11.13Wh divided by 7.6V results in 1.46Ah...at 7.6V! This is because it evidently uses two Li-Ion cells in series, while phones almost always have half that nominal voltage since they use a single cell, at circa 3.8V. This means that the battery pack's battery holds twice as much energy as a phone (or in general single-cell) with the same "Ah" capacity. The capacity in Wh are more comparable since they do not suppose a standard cell voltage.
The new battery pack is exactly the way Moto Mods worked, without the data transfer. It's just a bit better though, since there's no pogo pins to align. I'm interested to see where MagSafe (or MagSafe Attach or whatever) goes. Will it come to the iPad? I've heard rumor that MagSafe could come back to the Mac in some way. I don't know, but I do know that magnets are fun and I like them.
I still can't wrap my head around when Apple is so obsessed with their chip efficiency, but not on their chargers (no GaN) and charging method (wireless).
Considering how unrepairable apple batteries are even compared to the relatively annoying to repair smartphone market, they probably don't want the battery to wear out faster than the expected lifetime as it will with often fast charging. Other companies have countered this with more split cell designs that allow higher amperage charging with less wear, but that is more recent development.
I have the official MagSafe charger, the ESR car charger you showed, and the Anker PowerCore Magnetic 5K, and I no longer use my lightning plug on my iPhone 12 Pro Max! I even bought a plug to block dust from getting in. I think MagSafe is the future of the iPhone.
This channel is getting better and better. Fantastic host. I’m so glad LTT started making Mac specific content not just for the deep dives, but so the news comes without all the Apple hate eye rolling all the other hosts can’t help but express.
Imma say something cursed but I love magsafe on my z fold 4, took me months but I found a mag safe sticker that's low profile clean can stick to silicone and matte plastics plus has super strong magnets so it holds freakishly well. It's so strong that I accidentally bought a non mag safe generic magnetic charger but just using about 30% of the ring works and holds it.
I got a blue Mini. Love it. Hate the fact that everybody slams on the battery. If you just use it like a tool and not a food source, it actually last a long time on a charge. I generally get nearly two days and charge it around 35% remaining. I'm looking forward to even more efficiency when iOS 15 rolls.
1:58 1.46Ah × 7.62V = 11.1252VAh ≈ 11.13Wh Makes perfect sense, what's the problem?? Amp-hours are only comparable when the voltage is the same (which they usually are; Li-Ion 2S is typically around 7.4V), the value you should look at is watt-hours which is a unit of energy. (1W × 1s = 1J) The Anker one is only 1S (3.7V), so it doesn't have 3.4x (5A/1.46A) the storage but actually just 1.6x (18.5Wh/11.13Wh).
Yeah I was wondering too... I'm not expecting everybody to have some basic knowledge of high school-level electronics but I feel like tech reviewers should know the definition of DC electrical power
Wall mount for iPhone for house setup to control things like nest, sonos, etc. Mounted inside door. And as a backup phone for emergencies. Just winging that! My first thought was Toliet as well!
That last mount, place it in the kitchen for recipes, videos, podcasts, remote, etc. Keeps it out of harms way while being able to use it during cooking. (Just make sure you either disinfect the phone or wash your hands after using it)
I got a magnet replacement kit for iPhone and put the magnets on the inside of the pixel 4 case. Works like a charm. I don't use the official apple MagSafe charge just 3rd party ones. I cant get 12W charging all the time. I just need to find a good car mount. If you want a pic hit me up.
I love that this has great production quality that is totally its own thing from LTT. Jonathan does a great job. I seriously look forward to releases from this channel. Also music at the beginning is fire
At this point, MagSafe is the main way I charge my phone. I keep a traditional anker fast charger around just in case, but my daily is a MagSafe on my bedside. I plug in maybe two or three times a month, otherwise. Absolutely love it!
I love this battery. Use it most everyday when i get home just to keep the phone topped up. I haven't plugged the charging cord into my phone for almost a month now. The only reason to plug the cord in is to do a software update, transferring files not handled from the cloud and local storage/backup. So I guess charging is mainly through my MagSafe tree and battery pack.
MagSafe is amazing, especially through third party accessories. I have a $15 Fully MagSafe Compatible car mount and its feels more scure then any other car mount I've used before and it's integeated right into iPhone and its cases.
Oh the magnetic car mount is the first good use case I’ve seen for this. I used to have one for my iPhone 6 but traded it out for a wireless charging cradle for my XS, which I have to put on the passenger side vent so It doesn’t stick out and hit the wheel. Getting it back closer to me so I can glance quicker would be great
I have a magsafe anker battery pack for my iphone 12 pro max and it works really well. It has a built-in stand too. Since it was half the cost of the $99 dollar apple magsafe battery pack I can deal with the slower charging
I’ve try the MagSafe on my pitaka MagEZ case and it works. So android phone in theory don’t even need the special magnets, just correctly placed metal strips.
6 months later, I’m now able to find ‘MagSafe attach’ cases for my new S22, so I can continue to use my MagSafe charger and car mount. Things is getting better~
I use an android phone and I have never used an electric induction type of charging. Cost-wise their always more expensive and in some cases slower than wall chargers. But if there was a huge ecosystem for all the phones that would make any kind of phone usable with any MagSafe or other chargers I might want to enter this ecosustem.
Yes !! The last bit I mounted a “mag attach” with vhb tape onto my bathroom mirror. It’s great when I’m brushing my teeth, blow drying, flossing. Thinking about one for opposite the wc(toilet) now….!
I own a Essential phone PH-1 and when i used that thing, i don't anymore as it's broken, still turns on though, u get the point, well i had this magnetic charger with pins that were 3D printed, since the essential phone had this magentic accsesory thing with wireless usb 3 for the 360 camera, i used that connector also for charging, which was ofc magnetic, and I'd say, i loved it
I wish they used different names like 'MagGrip' for the whole lot, 'MagAttach' for just grips, 'MagCharge' for 5w and 'MagBoost' or 'MagBoostCharge' for fast charge. Hell even 'MagCharge5' and 'MagCharge15'
Fantastic video. As someone who lives in a household with an iPhone 11 Pro and an iPhone 12 mini, I’ve been curious about the MagSafe Ecosystem. Especially the smart battery vs the Anker, MagSafe compatibility for cars, and retrofitting my 11 pro to be compatible in the car.

Gotta say, Jonathan is all the good bits of Apple fanboy, but seemingly without the bad bits.
I wasn't sure I'd like this channel, but as a potential future user of Apple at work it's growing on me.
Man, do I love the polishedness of the videos on this channel. Keep it up!
How are you so calm, quirky, funny and cool at the same time??
I really don’t want a portless future.. how are we going to put it into DFU mode?
There has been talk about having hidden pins inside the SIM card slot
They will probably change how DFU mode is performed.
@LengkapGan that would suck considering not everyone lives near an apple store.
@LengkapGan Also, that’s what they do at the apple store, put your phone into DFU mode :/
i think what Apple really want is to you buy a new iPhone
Not an apple user, nor will be in near future because hard to move ecosystem. But these videos so pleasing to watch.
Jonathan, you make fantastic videos with the lmg team. I always look forward to these.
Add Smart Connector functionality to Magsafe. Would open up even more possible accessories.
These videos and their style are an absolute premium. Never change. Keep skipping in the office too, that was fun.
What great timing for this video I was actually looking around at I can actually buy to finally use the feature
The last sticky would be an amazing hack for watching video on the plane or for kids in the car
Mounting that wall mount to something to make a primitive rolling cam setup for B-roll.
Love the style of Mac Address videos
I still can't wrap my head around when Apple is so obsessed with their chip efficiency, but not on their chargers (no GaN) and charging method (wireless).
Considering how unrepairable apple batteries are even compared to the relatively annoying to repair smartphone market, they probably don't want the battery to wear out faster than the expected lifetime as it will with often fast charging. Other companies have countered this with more split cell designs that allow higher amperage charging with less wear, but that is more recent development.
Also, the chip efficiency affects battery life, which end users are more likely to notice than power wasteage from wireless charging
I love the style of these videos and how different they are from all other LTT content. Jon and the team really make it their own and it shows!
Link please
I got a blue Mini. Love it. Hate the fact that everybody slams on the battery. If you just use it like a tool and not a food source, it actually last a long time on a charge. I generally get nearly two days and charge it around 35% remaining. I'm looking forward to even more efficiency when iOS 15 rolls.
1:58 1.46Ah × 7.62V = 11.1252VAh ≈ 11.13Wh
Makes perfect sense, what's the problem??
Amp-hours are only comparable when the voltage is the same (which they usually are; Li-Ion 2S is typically around 7.4V), the value you should look at is watt-hours which is a unit of energy.
(1W × 1s = 1J)
The Anker one is only 1S (3.7V), so it doesn't have 3.4x (5A/1.46A) the storage but actually just 1.6x (18.5Wh/11.13Wh).
Yeah I was wondering too... I'm not expecting everybody to have some basic knowledge of high school-level electronics but I feel like tech reviewers should know the definition of DC electrical power
Probably will be the future for charging just like wireless headphones instead of mini jack cable
Wall mount for iPhone for house setup to control things like nest, sonos, etc. Mounted inside door. And as a backup phone for emergencies. Just winging that! My first thought was Toliet as well!
I bought the magsafe battery pack and have been using it for 1 month not. Totally love it.
Not a user of any apple products, but damn, this channel is a joy to watch.
These videos are so good. Please keep it up. You will reach 1M subs in no time. Beautiful work!
I'm not a apple guy but these videos are top quality. I love watching them.
2:49 WAIT WHAT! So you're telling me now that the iPhone supports reverse wireless charging???
MagSafe is amazing, especially through third party accessories. I have a $15 Fully MagSafe Compatible car mount and its feels more scure then any other car mount I've used before and it's integeated right into iPhone and its cases.
I have nothing apple, but Iove these videos. I love your style Jonathan!
This dude deadass convinced Linus to make an Apple Orientation channel just to beef up his apple accessories.
Oh the magnetic car mount is the first good use case I’ve seen for this. I used to have one for my iPhone 6 but traded it out for a wireless charging cradle for my XS, which I have to put on the passenger side vent so It doesn’t stick out and hit the wheel. Getting it back closer to me so I can glance quicker would be great
I bought two of the Anker Powerwaves and absolutely love them!
This channel is so great and I never ever used an Apple device beside an iPod Touch 2nd gen.
Yes !! The last bit
I mounted a “mag attach” with vhb tape onto my bathroom mirror.
Even MagCharge 1.0 for 5w and increasing it up one for every 5w. ie 15W MagCharge 3.0 or 1.3
I'd put the wall mount into my nightstand or desk instead for a nice custom/seamless charging furniture solution.
I think magsafe is the best new feature of the iphone in awhile, it makes everything charging or mounting related infinitely more convenient
👆👆Wow Congratulations🎊🎊
You have been selected among my New Year ongoing giveaway 🎁 winners INBOX ME ……
A use for that wall mount is perhaps to display recipes on in the kitchen or something along those lines?
Fantastic video. As someone who lives in a household with an iPhone 11 Pro and an iPhone 12 mini, I’ve been curious about the MagSafe Ecosystem. Especially the smart battery vs the Anker, MagSafe compatibility for cars, and retrofitting my 11 pro to be compatible in the car.
Finally! An unbiased apple channel
Other than the music, these videos really give me Vsauce vibes but the tech version. Jonathan definitely helps drive that home.
I didn’t even realise this was an LMG channel until I saw the other crew members halfway through the video lmao
The identity on this channel is so well done
I wish the reverse charging on the iPhone could function as a Qi wireless charger.
That would be cool, but idk if Samsung patented it.
Cute idea. Only that I have already been using magsafe+ iphone 11 on a magsafe case for almost a year now. I had that setup even before the iphone 12’s shipped
