    Recently I was exploring making a video on the 'minimum requirements' Apple Ecosystem. How usable are the cheapest/oldest Apple products still supported in their respective OS? Well, very quickly I found that those devices kinda suck. So I changed the premise (I'm allowed to do that). I submit to you that for $1300 you can build yourself an absolutely excellent Apple Ecosystem

      Luke is right, especially fanless MacBook Air M1 has incredibly great value. M1 is still 5 years ahead in terms of CPU architecture:
      M1 ...... 2333 pts GB6 ....... 3.2 GHz ...... 2333/3.2 = 729 pts/GHz
      Zen4 ... 1948 pts GB6 ....... 4.5 GHz ...... 1948/4.5 = 433 pts/GHz ..... 1.68x for M1
      M1 has still 68% higher IPC which is very impressive (equal to 5 to 7 years of advantage in CPU architecture development). Second hand M1 Air is my first Apple product and it's literally the best peace of HW I ever bought. I would recommend 16 GB RAM though.

      I agree with the part of connecting to more than two devices. As for the ecosystem part, it's understandable that it should be made up of only Apple products but my view is that the contributions that Airpods make to the overall system are so insignificant that they can be replaced by another.
      Replacing any of the other four with a product from another company would greatly affect the ecosystem.

    I've been waiting for another  ecosystem video!
    Luke, your apple ecosystem videos are the ones who hooked me into it from the first place, I remember how a few years ago after searching for some information about the ecosystem, I run into one of your videos and it convinced me to rethink about buying a new iPhone 12 Pro, instead I bought a used iPhone Xs, used  watch s4 44mm, and a pair of new AirPods Pro 1st gen.
    It even convinced me to sell my intel MacBook Pro 16" 2019 and use my 2012 Unibody 13" for one more year!
    My current  ecosystem:
    M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16" (2nd hand!)
    iPad Pro 2020 11" (2nd hand!)
     watch s4 44mm eSim (2nd hand!)
    iPhone 15 Pro (New)
    AirPods Pro 2 (New)

    I strongly agree with the ecosystem you have put out! In fact, until just recently, I had basically the same thing (minus the iPad). Currently, and this is my opinion, I have the ideal ecosystem which consists of the 15” MacBook Air (got for $899), iPhone 11 Pro Max (got for $350), the Apple Watch S6 (got for $150), and the AirPods Pro 2 (got for $90). Altogether that’s a price of about $1500 which is about as much as the new MacBook Pro 😎

    During Luke’s sponsor spot I paused the video and guessed what the products would be and I nailed them, I guessed M1 MBA, iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 12, 2018 iPad Pro and an Apple Watch 5. All are currently the best right now, especially the iPad and the MacBook. I’m currently writing this on my 2018 iPad Pro 11 that I’ve owned since 2020 and it’s still a great device I don’t see replacing anytime soon. I also own the Apple Watch Series 4, and considering a Series 5 or maybe even a Series 6 is not all that more expensive, I’d just buy one of those instead. I’ve had my Series 4 since 2018 which was a pre-order one that shipped in October 2018 and it’s still good, it does everything you’d want it to do, but battery life took a nosedive after watchOS 10 was installed, so if you own one like me it’s still fine to use but I wouldn’t go out buying one now.

    • @altosack
      @altosack 6 місяців тому +1

      I had a different experience with watchOS 10 on my Series 5. Initially, the battery life was terrible, but now (10.2) it’s back to normal. _However,_ swipes only register one out of four or five times instead of reliably every time like they used to.
      Since I _know_ Apple knows this, and it’s intentional to get us to upgrade, Apple is pretty close to losing me out of principle, even though their products are still the best, and I should stay with them for pragmatism.

    This is an excellent video, with an excellent selection of products! I definitely agree on everything. For me personally, I would tweak the ecosystem slightly by not having a computer, and bumping up the iPad, and adding headphones. I have both the M1 Air and an iPad Air 5, and I find myself using the iPad Air many, many more times than the computer. It’s just so easy to reach for! Recently got a iPad and have been using it in tandem with my MacBook and iPhone for the last few weeks. Too a flight and it came in clutch for downloading content for the flight. I’ve used it to FaceTime and browse and shop on a bigger screen in places my laptop wouldn’t fit. I think it’s the lowest of my apple items in importance but it’s been worth it for me so far.

    I agree except for iPhone and iPad: regular 13 is much more capable than 11 Pro, iPad 9 can be found for $240 for used model. For most people who don't even know what is 120Hz and barely ever use telephoto camera, they're better combo. 13 for the capability and latest features, 9 for cutting corners.

    I have an iMac 2015 4K, iPad 9 and iPhone 14 Pro Max as my ecosystem and it’s more than enough for me. I mean I didn’t pay for the iPhone (got it as a gift), paid only $80 for the 9th gen from trade-ins and the iMac I got a good deal for $307. Plus the iMac supports OpenCore Legacy Patcher which is great and my iPad 9 does the heavy lifting while my Mac is geared for projects and my iPhone is used for using as a phone. For me, it’s plenty.

    I currently use an iPhone SE 2020 as my main phone solely so that I have a mute switch. It is quite difficult to stop all notification noises from coming out of an Android phone and I had had complaints from a number of employers about beeps coming out of my phones. Now that I have an iPhone I make zero use of the Apple ecosystem. I have disabled the iCloud. I use Microsoft One Drive for cloud storage and use Amazon and Google for films and music. When I first set up my iPhone I installed the 75% of the apps from my Android phone that were available for the iPhone. I still have my rather more flexible Android phone for use in the evenings.

    Me building my Apple ecosystem in years. Started with an iphone and apple watch series 3, then 2021 12.9 iPad Pro saw how easy it was to access files via phone and iPad bought a used magic key board and loved it. Fast forward to a year I bit the bullet and bought a Macbook Pro 14 2021 at first didn't see why I needed it but slowly transitioned from my iPad to macbook. My recent purchase now is an apple watch ultra 2. And I'm loving my apple products, I'm planning to get the airpods max next. I'm not a crazy apple follower where I upgrade products yearly, I love the longevity of some of the products they have.

    Thanks Luke, I really like these videos you do. Only thing is personally, I prefer a refurb 2020 iPad Pro instead of 2018, they’re so similar that they’ve depreciated similarly, and I know support for the A12Z will be longer than the A12X so I’m more future proof.
    Just my personal opinion ofc, can’t go wrong with the 2018 either!

      @Epicgamer_Mac 6 місяців тому +1

      @@_Digitalguy Wow, I wouldn’t have expected that!
      Personally I have the 12.9” M2 iPad Pro 256 GB, which has 8 GB RAM, and I found it performs no worse in reloads than my father’s M1 1 TB version (16 GB RAM). Maybe iPadOS doesn’t support RAM usage higher than 8 GB??

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy 6 місяців тому +1

      @@Epicgamer_Mac I also have the M1 8GB and while it's better than 6GB we are at a point where you hardly see the difference. So if you have 4GB you'll definitely notice the reloads as they happen a lot, but on 8GB they are so rare that I don't see much point in the 16GB at least for now, maybe in 5 years it will be different... I am speaking of browsing, but if you use RAM hungry apps that's different. For instance advanced features in DaVinci resolves make the 4GB model crash, while the 6GB and 8GB work... but reload would increase for other things, but there are only very few apps that use a lot of RAM, most don't use much

    I have a slightly beefed up version of this eco system (pro instead of air, 12 pro instead of 11pro, series 6 instead of 5, and just recently upgraded from the 2018 11 pro to the m1 11 pro). My MacBook and IPad wont be replaced for a very very long time. In fact, the only reason why I even upgraded to the m1 iPad Air was because I got an insane deal annd ended up making a profit by buying my m1 and selling my 2018. My series 6 watch is incredible my only gripe is the slow charging which I can live with, only thing I’d consider replacing is my 12 pro only due to the battery life and sluggishness. Other than that, I dont see myself upgrading any other part of my ecosystem for the next 5 years. It’s crazy to think. That a few years ago upgrading every 3 years was almost a necessity due to the night and day difference.
