Mr. Robertson is so darn interesting to listen to his stories and knowledge. Love learning both of your feelings on so many different rifles and cartridges.
I've dreamed of hunting buffalo all my life. Im 44 now and have only hunted whitetails in my home state of Ohio. Im having a hard time saving enough to get out west and hunt elk and mule deer. So the odds are I'll never get to hunt Africa but at least I can live vicariously through stories like this one . This was a great episode, thanks buddy 👍
I’m in the same boat as you…. I’m a bit younger tho….. I finally have gotten my two rifle battery ( have no idea why it’s called that?) together and have taken a part time job to help add to the savings to hopefully get there!!
I am old now 68 years old, I taken a number of financial hits in my working life. I hunted quite a bit, Alaska Monatan Wyoming, Texas up in Canada and one Safari early in my life. I was offered a choice a British Sports car for a graduation gift or African Safari, I took the hunting trip. I been chopping on the bit ever since to go back. Just was not in the cards. I love hunting white tails, and since I got a bit of land here in CT I got a very long season with archery starting in Sept, then Rifle season( landowner) November and Decenber, then another month in January archery should I choose to. I take great joy in the meals I cook. I am looking to buy a new Ruger Made Marlin 336 in 30-30, Ohio is a great place to hunt white tail deer, you are very lucky its your home state. You become an accomplished deer hunter. That is a good goal for you.
I have hunted Cape Buffalo in South Africa, in the area north of Kimberely, Northern Cape. I have used .375 H&H using 300gr Swift A-Frame bullets and also .458 Win Mag using a 500 gr Bonded DGX.
i've researched hunting in africa a lot lately. i will probably do the plains hunt first because it is cheaper. buffalo hunts are around $15k. that would be a one time thing for me.
I have read severas books of Doctari and I understand his opinión about Sci measure sistem but on the other hand I think that being buff hunt so expensive is only natural that a client that probably only hunt hunts a buff in his life would like to get a trophy that has both width and nice curving horns not just an old Bull with worn out horns if you have that King of Police is better to have a sistem like they have in ZA you pay according to trophy size.
Yeah, he doesn't really discuss this aspect of things in this video, but he specifically says in a different interview that he thinks there should be a pricing structure for buffalo that goes along with his recommended scoring system where the old worn down/broken bulls are significantly less expensive than those that score really high.

Sounds like some good set-ups! I assume they worked well?
Thank you for bringing Doc R to us!
My pleasure! It's always fun talking to him.
Interesting conversation about herd management and needing to leave some older buffalo for breeding.
